Edna Gondron Hague

Edna Gondron Hague left this world to return home to be with her Savior, the Lord, Jesus Christ on Friday, October 19, 2007.
Mrs. Hague was born September 23, 1911, in Loreauville, LA. She was a resident of Baton Rouge, but she also lived for many years in Maurepas. She was a devout Christian, who taught Sunday School, led bible study groups, and sang in the Choir at First Christian Church, as long as she was able to do those things. She was a church camp counselor for young people, an accomplished seamstress, and a professional cosmetologist with a diploma from Marinella Beauty School in Port Arthur, Texas. She was a wonderful and creative cook, who loved cooking for her family, singing and being with her loved ones. She was affectionately called "Mimi", and was very much loved by her family and extended family.
Visitation will be at Rabenhorst East (on Florida Blvd.), Monday, October 22, from 4:00 to 7:00p.m. Visitation at First Christian Church on Tuesday from 1:00p.m. until religious services at 2:00p.m., with Rev. Michael Karunas officiating. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Also participating in her services will be Hospice Chaplain, Dale DeLaune.
Survivors include her children: Brenda Hague Haydel, Maurepas, Gladys Hague Runnels and her husband, Dr. Kelly Runnels, Baton Rouge, and foster daughter Anna Mae Rey and her husband George Rey; 11 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hague was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Jack Sanders Hague; her parents, Willis Gondron and Lutecia Broussard Gondron Judice; two brothers, Willis Gondron and George Gondron; two sisters, Marie Resweber and Eunice Rogers; and her son-in-law, Thomas Eugene Haydel.
"Mimi" leaves us with many memories to cherish, and with the lessons by her example, of how to live an unselfish Christian life. We are so blessed to have had her in our lives.

Billy "Skillet" Robinson

Groves - Billy "Skillet" Robinson, 82, of Groves, Texas died Monday, October 22, 2007.
Billy was born September 15, 1925 in Litchfield, Illinois to Hubert L. Robinson and Lillie Pearl Hecke Robinson, He was an area resident for 52 years. He retired first from the United States Marines as a 1st Sergeant and then from Gulf Oil as a mechanic. He was also a member of Port Arthur VFW Post #797 and the Marines Gulf Coast Leathernecks. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2007 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas with Dr. Rick Erwin officiating. Military graveside services will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Robinson of Groves; daughters, Nancy Fee of Dickinson, Therese Richardson and husband, Jerry of Port Arthur, Kristy Duhon and husband, Keith of Baytown; sons, Martin Robinson of Port Arthur, Dirk Robinson and wife, Kelli of Fannett; sister, Francis Stark and husband, Rex of Nederland; grandchildren, Tracy Fee, Billy Richardson, Nicole Wilkinson, Kim and Kayla Duhon, Alissa, Brett, Tarynn, and Dustin Robinson; great-grandchildren, Megan Wilkinson, Hannah Richardson, Caitlin Fee and Sierra Fee.
Pallbearers will be Mark Wilkinson, Billy Richardson, Tracy Fee, Brett Robinson and Keith Duhon. Honorary Pallbearer will be Joyce Venable.

Jewel O'Quain

Nederland - Jewel O'Quain, 97, of Nederland, Texas died Monday, October 22, 2007 at Cypress Glen East in Port Arthur.
Jewel was born October 1, 1910 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Leo Eugene Causey and Nila Etta George Causey. She was a resident of the Port Arthur/Nederland area for 73 years and a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Port Arthur. She had also worked as a telephone operator for Lufkin Telephone Company. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m.; Thursday, October 25, 2007 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas with Pastors Devin Mulder and Aimee Mulder officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Andrew Taylor and Allen O'Quain. Survived by five children John R. Taylor, Nila Sue Anstack, Joyce Simon, Kenneth Taylor and Thomas Mann; nineteen grandchildren, fifty-four great-grandchildren and twenty-eight great-great-grandchildren.

Robert Bryant Haynes

Funeral services for Robert Bryant Haynes, 63, of Fannett will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with interment following in Franks Branch Cemetery in Fred. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Haynes died October 20, 2007 at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. Robert was a native of Silsbee and a longtime resident of the area. He was the owner of H&H; Heating and Air Conditioning for 35 years. Survivors include his wife, Dellphine Haynes of Fannett; sons, Barry Baynes of Port Arthur and Larry Haynes and wife, Aliceson of Orange; daughters, Sheila Miller of Grand Junction, Colorado and Kristie Carroll of Hackberry, Louisiana; sisters, Lucille Taylor of Tyler and Hazel Jo Chance of Glidden, Texas; brother, Horace Haynes, Jr. of Fannett and eight grandchildren.

Doral "Dee" Young

PORT ARTHUR - A memorial service will be held for Ms. Doral "Dee" Young, 69, of Port Arthur at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 25, 2007 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 501 W. Thomas Blvd., Port Arthur, TX with interment following at Johnson Cemetery.
Ms. Young passed away Friday, October 19, 2007. She was a native of New Orleans, La. and had been a resident of Port Arthur since 1991.
Survivors include a nephew she raised, Teron Carter, brothers James Acker, Robert Carter, Bobby Carter, Darrow Carter; sisters; Theresa Leonard, Rene' Barney and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.Services Entrusted to:Gabriel Funeral Home Port Arthur, Texas

Carl Armstrong

Carl Armstrong, a resident of Vinton, was reunited in heaven with his mother, father, brothers and sister on October 21, 2007. He passed away at the age of 87 after a long illness. He left behind his loving wife Berta (Benoit), to whom he was marriage for 54 years; his daughter and son-in-law Annette and Alex Berksan of Austin, Texas; his granddaughter Lauren and her husband Mike; and numerous nieces and nephews in Georgia.
Carl was born on June 17, 1920, in Cartersville, Georgia, to Lula (Hulsey) and Matthew Floyd Armstrong, Sr. His four siblings preceded him in death: John Armstrong, Alvin Armstrong, Ruby Armstrong Richards and Matthew Floyd Armstrong, Jr.
In high school, Carl excelled in football, basketball and baseball. After graduating from high school, he traveled around the country playing baseball for teams in Arkansas, Georgia, and Florida. He joined the Chicago Cubs in 1941, where he played in the outfield because of his strength as a batter. He was known for yelling, "Yetta boy, kid, " from the opening pitch until the last man was out.
Carl enlisted in the Army Air Corps the day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He served as a Sergeant in the 3704th Army Air Force Base Unit, stationed in San Marcos, Texas, and was honorably discharged at Maxwell Field, Alabama, on December 10, 1945. After the war, Carl returned to the field, playing baseball in Alabama, Louisiana, Cuba and Florida.
Carl and Berta were marriage in 1953 and settled down in Port Arthur, Texas. Carl received a degree in Physical Education from Lamar University in Beaumont. He retired from Texaco in 1981, after 30 years of loyal service. In retirement, his hobbies were playing golf and pulling weeds in his yard.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Vinton, Louisiana . Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Vinton. Chaplain Robert Tatum will officiate the services. Assisting will be Rev. Tim Linscomb of Calvary's Purchase in Orange, Texas. A graveside service with full military honors will follow at Big Woods Cemetery.
Carl will be honored by Joe Ingalls, Nathan Ingalls, Jamie East and Tim Linscomb, Jr., who will serve as pallbearers.

Mable T. Wilson

PORT ARTHUR - Mable T. Wilson, 90 of Port Arthur, departed this life on Oct. 20, 2007. She was a native of New Iberia, Louisiana, born to the union of William Thomas and Francis Lee. She was a faithful member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church until her health failed. Mable was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, two brothers; two daughters, Irma Lee Earl-Small, and Diana Earl; and one grandson, Adrian Young.
She leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters, Hortense Young (Lloyd), Freddie Earl and Joelene Lewis Earl; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; two special nieces, Catherine Lewis and Berlene Conway; also one special nephew, Lawrence Elmore. Visitation will be on Friday, October 26, 2007 from 12:00 to 2:00pm with funeral services to begin at 2:00pm at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church (Pastor Randy G. Vaughn). Services are under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
