Mrs. Mary McGee, 93 died Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Christus St. Mary Hospital. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at St. Paul UMC, 821 Texas Avenue with the Rev. Patricia Wells officiating. Viewing will be held at 9:30 A.M.

Elizabeth Scott (Francois)
PORT ARTHUR - Mrs. Elizabeth Scott (Francois) of Port Arthur died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007. She was born in St. Martinville, Louisiana and was a resident of Port Arthur, TX for 43 years. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in 1961. She spent her life taking care of the elderly as a Home Health Provider. Her remaining life was devoted to Jesus Christ, constantly testifying to others of the wonderful things GOD does and to turn their life over to Christ.
She leaves to cherish: her four daughters, Jedda (Anthony) Brantley of Georgia, Camalita (Dwight) Snowden of Port Arthur, TX, Kitina Meeks and Anasthia Johnson, both of Sherwood, Arkansas; two sons, Willie Gray III of Houston, TX and Alex Gray of Port Arthur, TX; six sisters; four brothers; close friends, Hattie Morgan and Jacqueline Ford of Port Arthur, TX; sixteen grandchildren and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation in scheduled from 6pm-9pm on Friday Nov. 9th at Gabriel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11am, Saturday Nov. 10th at Barnes Memorial Methodist Church, 749 West 17th St. in Port Arthur, TX. with early viewing before the services.
Betty Gage Herford
Betty Gage Herford was born in London England on February 29, 1916 and passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at Senior Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Port Arthur, Texas. Preceding her in death were her parents, David M. and Grace Gage and husband, George W. Herford. Surviving are a brother, Jack Gage and wife, Doris of Orange, Texas; a daughter, Gayle Evans and her husband, John of Cedar Creek Lake, Texas, and a son, Jack Byron Herford and wife, Beverly of Port Neches, Texas. Also two grandsons, David A. Evans of Sudbury, MA and Jeffery B. Herford of Katy, Texas; granddaughters, Margo Conder of Plano, Texas; Jacqueline Shadron of Converse, Texas; Jayme Musgrove of Port Neches, Texas; Kim Christian of Bridge City, Texas; and Kelley Dowden of Port Arthur, Texas; and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 9, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. Cliff Rucker officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches.

Clarence James Traube
Clarence James Traube was born on October 29, 1915 in New York City to Clarence Harold and Elizabeth Josephine Cahill Traube. He graduated from Manhattan College with a bachelor of science degree in Civil Engineering. He was hired by the Texas Company in New York and transferred to the Port Arthur plant in 1944 and retired from Texaco in 1980.
He met Winona Miller Dyson while both were employed at the Texas Company. They marriage on October 19, 1945 at St. James Church in Port Arthur. He served as president and member of the Board of Directors of the Texaco P. A. W. Employee Credit Union; he was a student advisor for the Lamar Student Chapter of American Society of Civil Engineers; served as a member of Port Arthur Housing Finance Committee; and was an active member of St. James Catholic Church. He received the Service to Mankind award from the Evening Sertoma Club in 1993, was honored with a proclamation by the Mayor of Port Arthur declaring Tuesday, March 30, 1993 as Clarence J. Traube Day, and by the Senate of the State of Texas, 73rd Legislature. He coached little league baseball for over 30 years and a plaque was placed at Grado Field in his honor. He was affectionately known by his teams as ‘Coach Paw Paw".
He is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Winona "Nonie" Traube, daughter, Joan Ann and husband, Albert J. Gray of Orange, Texas and son, Michael J. Traube and wife, Linda S. of Kingsville, Texas. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Nancy Ashworth and her husband, Chris, Kathy Jones and her husband, Perry, Sandra Lane, grandsons, David Gray and his wife, Alicia, James Traube and great-grandchildren, Brittney Ashworth, Hunter Ashworth, Madelyn Jones, Barron Gray, Darien Mulligan and Michael R. Traube. Also surviving is his sister, Elizabeth M. Traube of Tinley Park, IL. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 8, 2007 from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. with a Rosary to be recited at 7 P.M. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 9, 2007 at St. James Catholic Church in Port Arthur. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Serving as Pallbearers will be David Gray, Chris Ashworth, Perry Jones, Jimmy Miller, Wayne Quinn, Jay Braxton. Thomas Dunlop will be Honorary Pallbearer. A special thanks to Sincere Gardens Assisted Living for the care and love given to our father by Sophie and her dedicated staff.

Homer William Askew
Homer William Askew, 95 of Port Arthur passed away, Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at Christus Hospital in Port Arthur.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Broussard's in Nederland. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. A gathering of family and friends will be 5:00 – 8:00 PM, Friday at the mortuary.
Mr. Askew was a native of Shelby County and has lived in Port Arthur since 1937. He retired as an Operator from Texaco with many years of service and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Mr. Askew was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie Askew; son William Elbert Fortune; daughter, Imogene Askew; and granddaughters, Alice and Crystal. He is survived by his son, Larrie Don Askew and his wife Frances of Starks, Louisiana; stepson, Don Wheelington and his wife Cathy of Houston; stepdaughter, Lillie May Eyler of Austin; daughter- in-law, Lois Fortune; three grandchildren, Lisa Briggs and her husband Larry, Donnal Askew and his wife Martha, Chris Askew and his wife Sonya; twenty great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mary F. Atkins Stelly
Groves - Mary F. Atkins Stelly, 76, of Groves, Texas died Monday, November 5, 2007 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas.
Mary was born on March 23, 1931 in Port Neches, Texas to Franklin Alexander Atkins, Sr. and Mary Carol Barker Atkins. She was a lifelong area resident and member of First United Methodist Church of Groves.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas with Reverend Alan Van Hooser officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffery B. Stelly; and grandsons, Jeffery Stelly, Jr. and Scott Stelly; brother, Franklin A. Atkins, Jr. Survivors include her husband, Jesse Stelly of Groves, Texas; daughter, Lisa Carol Wahlin and husband, Brian of Chandler, Arizona; brother, Tom A. Atkins of Picayune, Mississippi; sister- in-law, Eleanor Atkins of Lindale, Texas; grandson, Jason Stelly; and two great- grandchildren.
Shirley Ann Manuel Acker, RN, BSN, MHED
Shirley Ann Manuel Acker, 57, of Beaumont, died Thursday, November 1, 2007 at St. Davis South Austin Hospital in Austin, Texas. She was a nursing instructor at Lamar State College-Orange. She was a native of Louisiana resided in Port Arthur, Humble and currently was a resident of Beaumont, Texas for the past 4 years. She was a graduate of Lamar University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She received a Master of Science degree with a concentration in Health Education at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas.
Viewing will be Friday, November 9, 2007 starting at 9:00a.m. with services immediately following at 11:00a.m. at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, 3390 Sarah Street, Beaumont, Texas. Interment following at Greenlawn Cemetery. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, James L. Acker of Beaumont; two daughters, Kerry Anissia (Dantrel) Acker-Boone and Shebia Marie (Phillip) Dunn both of Katy, Texas; Rodney (Carlia) Ervin of Humble, Texas; three grandchildren Lauren Dunn, Brent Logan Rayford, also of Katy, Texas and Asia Ervin of Houston, Texas; five sisters, Gloria (L.T.) Ford, Carolyn (Danger) Kindrick, Connie (Herman) Gradney, Brenda (Larry) Tatum, and Sherian (Adam) Nero; three brothers Peter (Rita) Manuel, Harold (Irma) Manuel and John (Shelia) Manuel; three brothers-in-law; Robert (Tina) Carter, and Bobby (Gwen) Carter of Picayune, MS, Darrow Carter of Baytown, Texas; two sisters-in-laws; Theresa (Michael) Leonard of Port Arthur, Texas and Renee Barney of New Orleans, La. and a host of nieces and nephew and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Peter TL Manuel; mother, Mary Mildred Manuel Allen; two brothers, Willie Manuel and Joseph A.
