James A. Scott
James A. Scott, was also known as "Jimbo", 60 of Pleasure Island, TX died Saturday, November 3, 2007.
A native of Groves and resident of Pleasure Island since 1996. Jim was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served our country in the United States Navy. Jim was the owner of Superior Energies, Inc., Superior Abatement Inc. and GFI Inc. for the last thirty years in Groves.
A gathering of family and friends will be 2 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Memorial service will be at 6 P.M. Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Clayton Thompson.
Jim is survived by his wife; Betty M. Scott of Pleasure Island; sons, Sean Scott and wife Kimmy of Groves; Chad Scott of Nederland; daughter, Stacy Davis and husband Bryan of Groves; grandchildren Ali Scott, Bradley Choate, Blake-Leigh Dockens, Brea Scott, Peyton Davis and Brynna Scott all of Groves.
Dad, you were a father and grandfather to many and will truly be missed by all. Your light will continue to burn in all of us. Thank you for your wisdom, laughter and unconditional love. I love you and look forward to our last trip on the water together, with all my love, Miss Betty.
Earl William Sr.
Sabine Pass - Earl William Sr., 64, passed away on November 14, 2007. Earl was a lifelong resident of Sabine Pass but had been living in Florida for the past two years.
There will be a gathering of friends and family Monday November 19, 2007 from 5 - 8 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10AM Tuesday November 20, 2007 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents Edward "Tataw" and Roberta "Nanaw" Williams, and his sister Carolyn Seymore. He is survived by his loving wife Beverly Williams, brothers Edward Roy Williams and wife Kay of Port Arthur, Bill Williams and wife Brenda of Sabine Pass. Sisters Margie McCray and husband Billy of Sabine Pass, Bertha Seymore and husband Henry also of Sabine Pass. Earl is also survived by his sons Earl William Jr. and wife Vickie of Port Acres, James Williams and wife Aaron of Port Acres, and daughter Debra Flores and husband Robert of Pensacola, Florida.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Mandy Richards and husband Jared, Candice Nini and husband Josh all of Nederland, Kristin Williams, Kacy Williams, Stacie Williams all of Port Acres, great-grandchildren Makayla Nini, Layton Richards, Madison Nini, and another grandson on the way. Earl also has many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Roland Thomas Jr.
Port Arthur - Mr. Roland Thomas Jr. was born March 19, 1925 to the late Roland and Mary Lockwood Thomas in Marksville, Louisiana.
Mr. Thomas was a member and a deacon of Greater Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend G. Holmes for numerous years. He was a resident of Port Arthur for 72 years and retired from Gulf Refinery with 38 and a half years of service.
A visitation is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. and the funeral will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. on Monday November 19, 2007 at New Landmark Ministries with Pastor Tyrone Hanks rendering the services located at 6245 Gulfway Dr. The burial will follow the services at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Houston, TX under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
Roland leaves to celebrate his memory, his wife Jo Ann Thomas of Port Arthur, TX, one son Laurence Thomas of College Station, TX., two sisters Mrs. Bell Walters of Port Arthur, TX., and Mrs. Hilda Dean of Denver, CO., one brother Mr. Landry Thomas of Port Arthur, TX., and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Michael William King, M.D.
Michael William King, M.D., 54, of Port Neches, Texas passed away November 15, 2007. He was born January 23, 1953 in South Charleston, West Virginia to the late William H. and Sybil E. Martin King. He was a member of St. Marks Episcopal Church, Texas Medical Association, Jefferson County Medical Society, and Sigma Chi Fraternity. He graduated from North Olmsted High School Cleveland, Ohio in 1970; from Lamar University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology; and from UTMB Galveston in 1978 with a degree as a Medical Doctor. After graduation, he worked in 1979 as an intern in family medicine in Galveston UTMB; from 1979 – 1980 in emergency rooms through out Texas; from 1980 to 1983 he worked as the plant physician for Gulf Oil in Port Arthur; from 1983 to present in private practice in Mid-County.
He is survived by his wife, Lyndia Walker King of Port Neches; son, Michael W. King, II of Port Neches; 3 daughters, Brittany King of Port Arthur, Ashley King of Vidor, Lindsay King of Port Neches; and 1 grandchild, Luca Ray Stites of Vidor.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, November 18th at Heritage Funeral Home in Nederland.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 19th at 2:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, Rev. Father Calcote. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
Donations can be made to the Autism Society of Southeast Texas.
Catherine May Haynes Stephenson "Cat-Cato"
Catherine Stephenson, 72, was called home Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at her home. Catherine was born in Franklin, LA, and moved to Port Arthur, TX at an early age where she resided for over 50 years.
She was employed at St. Mary's Hospital where she was a dedicated worker for 38 years before retiring.
Catherine leaves behind two children; Cathy Freeman (Ewell Freeman Jr.), Billie W. Stephenson Jr.; one brother David Haynes (Gloria Haynes) and one sister Margarite Haynes; eight grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and many close friends.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Billie Stephenson Sr.; mother, Josephine Thomas and father David Haynes, Sr.; brother, Donaldson Thomas; sister Annie Mae Wilson.
Her funeral service will be at Hannah Funeral Home East, Wednesday, December 5, 2007. The viewing will be from 9:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. with the services to follow with burial at Live Oak Cemetery.
Wilton J. Bourque
PORT ARTHUR - Wilton J. Bourque of Port Arthur passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont at the age of 68. He was born in Port Arthur, Texas on October 18, 1939 to Elmire Borne Bourque and Andre Bourque. He was a lifelong resident of Port Arthur. Wilton retired from Ameripol Synpol as a supervisor in the Production Department after 40 years of service. He was a member of St. Catherines Catholic Church in Port Arthur.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. with a rosary to be recited at 5 P.M. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 2 P.M. Wednesday, December 5, 2007 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Greig Bourque, Robert Bravo, Kevin Legendre, David Taylor, Allen Trim and Reed Nilles.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha Bourque of Port Arthur, his son, Greig Bourque of Port Arthur, his daughters, Jacquelyn Bravo and her husband, Robert of Ventura, California, Laurie Taylor and her husband, David of Vidor, Texas, Stacy Legendre and her husband, Kevin of Lumberton, Texas.
He is also survived by his granddaughter, Jennifer Lyons and two grandsons, Robert Bravo, Jr. and Jacob Bravo along with two sisters, Lenora Robinson of Port Arthur and Ruth Burns of Fannett as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Andre and Elmire Bourque, his granddaughter, Meagan Legendre and his brother, Malcolme Bourque.
Marvin C. Jones
Marvin C. Jones was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at his residence with his loving wife, Sammie and his loving daughters, Joyce, Tammy and Rita at his side. Marvin loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing his testimony with everyone.
Marvin graduated from Port Neches-Groves High Scool in 1956. He was the owner of Prioux T. V. Service in Groves. Marvin retired from Ausimont in Orange, Texas in 1999. He enjoyed crappie fishing and having a good time with his family at his camp on Lake Sam Rayburn.
During his early years, Marvin played bass guitar for the Dialtones. He also played bass guitar and sang bass with his brothers and sisters, "The Jones Family Quartet".
Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at 10 A.M. in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson. Burial will follow in Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brent Williford, Ronnie Golmon, Marlin Golmon, Todd Canton, Wade Washburn and Darren Washburn.
Marvin was preceded in death by his father, Clyde R. Jones, his mother, Audry Jones and his grandson, Jeffrey Lee Naggs, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Sammie Y. Jones of Groves, three daughters, Joyce Jackson and her husband, Clarence (Jack) of Groves, Tammy Canton and her husband, Todd of Labelle, Rita Dianne Mazzola of Groves. He also leaves behind two sisters, Charlotte Ann Golmon and her husband, Wilton of Canyon Lake, Patsy Lynn Washburn and her husband, Eugene of Nederland and two brothers, George W. Jones and his wife, Beth of Toledo Bend, Bill W. Jones and his wife, Dana of Dickerson. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Brent Wayne Williford of Lumberton, Lacey June Naggs of Labelle, Kara Danielle Mazzola of Groves, Anthony Canton of Tennessee, Asalei Dene Mazzola of Groves along with great-grandchildren, Kane Clyde Richard and Jaleigh Michelle Richard of Labelle.
