Garnell 'Pat' Apperson
AUSTIN - Services for Garnell "Pat" Apperson, 87, of Austin will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home in Austin with Pastor Barry Chinn officiating. Services will also be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Clayton-Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Visitation will start at noon at the funeral home.
She died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in Austin.
Fannye F. Beaty
ORANGE - Fannye F. Beaty, 83, of Orange died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001 at Hermann Baptist Rehabilitation Center in Beaumont.
A native and lifelong resident of Orange, she was a graduate of Mary Hardin Baylor College for Women. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Orange. She worked with the American Red Cross Clubmobile unit attached to the United States Army's 88th Division in North Africa and Italy. She received the Medal of Freedom Award and for the last 40 years did extensive work with the Disaster Relief Fund of the American Red Cross. She taught school for several years and worked for the city of Orange Recreation Department. She was the director of the local U.S.O. and the former owner of Beaty Insurance in Orange.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery in Orange with the Rev. W. W. Smith officiating and under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home.
Survivors include two sisters, Joyce Rowe of Victoria and Eleanor Kershner of Round Rock.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Disaster Relief Fund of the American Red Cross, 908 Pine Ave., Orange, Texas 77630.
Placide Bourque
GROVES - Placide Bourque, 93, of Groves, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001 at Christus St. Mary Hospital.
A native of Leroy, La., he was an area resident since 1941. Bourque was an electrician with Gulf Oil Corp. with 18 years of service. He retired from the Port Arthur News with 11 years of service. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Rev. Kenneth Greig officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Euna Bourque; a son, Bernie J. Bourque of Port Arthur; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Emile 'White' Cahanin
FANNETT - Services for Emile "White" Cahanin, 84, of Fannett will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Assumption Catholic Church in Mire, La. Burial will follow at the Assumption Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Pat A. Riley Funeral Home in Nederland with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 4 p.m. to10 p.m. Friday at Gossen Funeral Home in Rayne, La., with a rosary recited at 6 p.m.
He died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.
Lillian Domingue
Services for Lillian Domingue, 89, of Port Arthur will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Grammier Oberle Funeral Home with the Revs. James Vanderholt and Kevin Badeaux officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
She died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Golden Triangle Nursing Home.
George Whitley 'Sonny Man' Davis Jr.
George Whitley "Sonny Man" Davis Jr., 80, of Port Arthur died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001 at Diagnostic Hospital in Houston, Texas.
A native and lifelong resident of Port Arthur, he was a member of the deacon board for 40 years and deacon emeritus for two years at Rock Island Baptist Church. He also served as Sunday School teacher for the young adults, teacher for Buchannah Circle, former director for BTU, physical plant coordinator, member and teacher of Men's Laymen, devotional leader of weekly prayer meetings, and a dedicated visitor of the sick and shut-in members.
Davis was a 1940 graduate of Lincoln High School, a retired barber and owner of Ritz Barber Shop and Davis Pest Control. He was an original member of the Port Arthur National Reunion Association.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Rock Island Baptist Church with Dr. Carl Armstead officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Lovenia Wykoff Davis; three daughters, Sandra McDaniel, Madelyn Hunt and Vivian Ballou all of Port Arthur; two sons, George Davis III of Port Arthur and Harold Lloyd Davis of Seattle; two stepsons, Clarence Wykoff and Lenward Wykoff, both of Port Arthur; five sisters, Bobbie Mitchell of Port Arthur, Rosa Patterson, Nettie Brown, Dorothy Whitley and Naomi Whitley, all of Houston; five brothers, Jimmy Whitley, Larry Whitley, Rickey Whitley, Cary Howard and Ray Whitley all of Houston; 10 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Alveria Fontenot
Alveria Fontenot, 82, of Port Arthur died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000 at Christus St. Mary Hospital.
A native of Kilgore, she lived in Port Arthur for 53 years and was a member of East Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with Rev. Arthur Trainer officiating. Burial will be at noon Sunday in Kilgore under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Survivors include her husband, Earnest Fontenot of Port Arthur; a brother, L.K. Gipson of Terrell; a best friend, Mary Boudoin of Port Arthur; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Roy Foreman
Services for Roy Foreman, 74, of Port Arthur will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Christ Temple New Life Ministries Church with the Rev. Ronald Washington officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson Memorial Park under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. at the church.
He died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at his home.
Cecil Harris
BEAUMONT - Services for Cecil Harris, 65, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Sixth Street Baptist Church with Rev. Ransom Howard officiating. Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum at Greenlawn Cemetery, under the direction of Hannah Funeral Home, East. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.
He died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Jane P. Haskell
Jane P. Haskell, 90, of Port Arthur, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001.
A native of Seattle, she was a registered nurse. She was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church, Chapter A P.E.O sorority and the Port Arthur Garden Club.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the church with burial following at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne Haskell Honeycutt of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a grandson, Grant Honeycutt of Myrtle Beach; and two granddaughters, Kellie Honeycutt of Myrtle Beach and Stacie Honeycutt of Japan.
Mab Lynn Hill
RANGER - Mab Lynn Hill, 97, formerly of Abilene, died Tuesday, Jan. 2 2001, at a nursing home in ranger.
A native of Lawn, she graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1923. She lived in Abilene. She lived in Port Arthur from 1925 to 1965 where she was a math teacher at Thomas Jefferson High School for 36 years. She lived in Dallas from 1972 to 1986 where she was honored for over 1, 000 hours of volunteer service as a docent at Old City Park. She returned to Abilene in 1986, but had lived in Ranger since 1993. She was a member of Lightbearers Sunday school class at First Baptist Church in Abilene and the Retired Teachers Associations.
Survivors include two sisters, Geraldine Hill of Ranger and Mildred Hill of Lake Leon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
