Roosevelt Joseph Simon
On Tuesday morning, January 29, 2008, our be loved father, Roosevelt Joseph Simon, departed this life at his home in Port Arthur, Texas. Roosevelt was born in Mamou, LA and a resident of Port Arthur, Texas for 68 years. He was born to the late Napoleon Simon and Edmonia Harris. He was the 3rd of eight children. He was a faithful member of Rock Island Baptist Church and one of the original members of the male chorus for several years. He loved singing for the Lord.
He was a former dedicated employee of Gulf Refinery for 39 years and retired in 1986.
Before his debilitating illness, he enjoyed hobbies that included auto mechanics, lawn and gardening, singing gospel songs acapella, watching western classics and reading the Bible.
Roosevelt's wife of 28 years, Exie Simon, preceded him in death in 1994. Other family members who preceded him in death were 4 brothers, Cliff Simon, Hart Simon, Rhinest Simon and Ernest Simon; 3 sisters, Octavia Simon, Rose Mary Richard, and Olivia William; 2 sons, Robert Lee Simon and Roosevelt Simon Jr.; 2 grandchildren, Cornell Bush, Jr., Reginald Simon, Sr. and 1 great-grandchild, Tamia Thomas.
Roosevelt leaves a host of family members to celebrate his homegoing to the Lord: 2 sons, Sylvester Simon (Debrah), Michael Simon (Vickie); 4 daughters, Maxine Simon, Dorcas Hayward (Joel), Pastor Earthell Paul-Branch, and Pastor Rhonda Dixon (Pastor Gary); 3 step-sons, Harold Dotson (Rose), Earl Conley (Marie), and Graylin Briscoe; 7 step-daughters, Wealthy DeJohn, Pastor Andrea Jackson (Pastor Roland), Pastor Pearlanna Carron (Simon), Vanessa Imani Paul (Alex), Minister Ericka Broussard (Danny), Vivian Ballou (Jesse); 36 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchildren, and godchild, Vergie Gillis.
A visitation is scheduled from 9 AM until 11 AM this Saturday at Rock Island Baptist Church. Funeral service is scheduled for 11 AM Saturday at Rock Island Baptist Church with Rev. Ranson Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
Jean M. Lanclos
GROVES - Jean M. Lanclos, 85, of Groves passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2008, at his residence in Groves.
Jean was born on February 21, 1922, in Opelousas, Louisiana to Celina Robin Lanclos and Jean B. Lanclos. He had moved to Port Arthur in 1942 and shortly afterward enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. After serving his country Jean got a job at the Texaco Oil Refinery working as a supervisor in the lithograph department. In 1946 Jean marriage Rena Stroder and had been happily marriage to her for sixty-one years and together they had eight children. Jean retired from Texaco in 1979. He was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port Arthur and was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Groves; he was also a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. Jean loved gardening, fishing, cooking and most of all being with his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Groves with Msgr. Kenneth Greig as the Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 4:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. Friday at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2008 at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Rena Stroder Lanclos of Groves; sons, Bill Lanclos and wife Becky of Clear Lake, Texas, Ricky Lanclos of Nederland and Greg Lanclos and wife Elly of Port Arthur; daughters, Pat Harlow and husband Kayo of Port Neches, Nita Lynd of Austin, Melanie McGee and husband Craig of Nederland and Kim Fowler and husband Dwayne of the Woodlands; brothers, Daniel Lanclos and Anthony Lanclos; thirteen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Jean was preceded in death by his son Dennis Lanclos who passed away in 1999; brothers, Louis Lanclos, Simon Lanclos, Joseph Lanclos; sisters, Flo Peck, Armance Vellion and Ludie Lalonde.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Kayo Harlow, Craig McGee, Dwayne Fowler, Michael Lanclos, Chris Jensen and Matt McGee.

Harold D. Belton
FANNETT - Harold D. Belton, 55, of Fannett passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Broussard's in Nederland at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 2, 2008. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves. A gathering of the family and friends will be from 8:00am until service time on Saturday at the mortuary.
Harold was a native of San Augustine, Texas and lived most of his life in Beaumont. He loved all sports. Harold was employed with Motiva for over 36 years. Harold was a member of Westgate Church of Christ in Beaumont.
Harold is survived by his wife, Brenda Belton of Fannett; his parents, L.J. and Delores Belton of Port Arthur; daughters, Amanda Belton of Waco; Amber Belton of Houston; sisters, Cynthia Richard and husband Larry of Fannett, and Tiffany Keys and husband, Anheuser of Atlanta, Georgia.; brother, Clifford Belton of Bremerton, Washington; Aunt, Annie Abram "Auntie Granny" and a host of other relatives and friends.
Bennie Nola Hilgemeier
PORT NECHES - Bennie Nola Hilgemeier, 95 of Port Neches, Texas passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at Cypress Glen East in Port Arthur. Mrs. Hilgemeier was born July 25, 1912 to Clarence and Rosa Barrow in Anahuac, Texas. She has lived in Port Neches since 1999 and was a former resident of Beaumont for 57 years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Beaumont.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry K. Hilgemeier, son, Henry C. Hilgemeier; six sisters and four brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Rosie Einkauf and husband Kenneth of Port Neches, brother, G.G. "Duck" Hilgemeier and wife Scarlet of Fannett; daughter-in-law, Jane Hilgemeier of Beaumont; niece, Hannelore Wieting-Zymolka of Ganderkessee, Germany; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of other numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, February 1, 2008 from 4 p.m., until 8 p.m., at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 10 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church located at 2955 S. Major Dr., Beaumont, TX 77707.

Cleo Brooks
Cleo Brooks, age 95, died at Cypress Glen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, January 29, 2008.
She was born April 20, 1912 in Opelousas, Louisiana to the late Edmond Jourbet and Selina Laviolette. Cleo Brooks was a member of St. John Baptist Church. She is survived by a sister, Marie Viltz; a special niece, Doris Arceneaux; two sisters-in-law, Thomasene Tho mas and Dorothy Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Brooks; three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services for Cleo Brooks will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 2, 2008 with visitation from 9:00-11:00 AM at St. John Baptist Church, 801 Grannis Avenue. Rev. Elijah James, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Cypress Glen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Odyssey Hospice for their help and support.
Hilda Smith Stelly
Hilda Smith Stelly, 80 of Port Arthur, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Christus St. Mary.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. service time, Saturday, February 2, 2008 at First Sixth Street Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Live Oak Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
Survivors include: son, Robert Smith (Karen) of Anchorage, Alaska; daughters, Cora Walker (Raymond) of Port Arthur, TX, and Marjorie Brown (Henry) of Kennewick, WA; and brother, Bernice Kemp (Rita) of Port Arthur, TX.
In Remembrance of James (Tiny) Paul
James (Tiny) Paul was born on February 19, 1939 in Church Point, LA, to Joseph Paul and Leola Judge. Tiny passed away January 16, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital.
He is survived by his niece, Ethel Landry (Jimmy); his nephew, Peter Paul; a special cousin, Mary Dyer (Griffin); and his provider, Brenda Broxton; and other relatives and friends.
Services were held on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008 at Johnson Cemetery at 9:00 a.m.
Brandi Jo Thibodeaux
PORT ACRES - Brandi Jo Thibodeaux, 23, of Port Acres, Texas died Friday, January 25, 2008.
Brandi was born February l0, 1984 in Port Arthur, Texas to Shelly Rene Paul and Ronnie James Thibodeaux. She was raised by her grandparents, Billy and Nancy Paul and was a lifelong area resident.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February l, 2008 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas with Pastor David Brett officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 5:00p.m. - 8:00p.m. at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Nancy Paul and grandfather, Joe Thibodeaux. Survivors include her mother, Shelly Paul; father, Ronnie James Thibodeaux; sisters, Danielle Gabbard and Candice Paul of Port Neches; brother, Sammy Paul of Nederland; grandfather, Billy Paul of Nederland; grandmother, Dioris Thibodeaux of Port Acres; and many friends and relatives.
