Lura Bell Wilson

PORT NECHES - Lura Bell Wilson, 83, of Port Neches passed away January 12, 2008. Lura was born on December 31, 1924 in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi to the late John Thomas and Modenna Rollins Johnston.
She was a member of Central Baptist Church of Port Neches and a Homemaker. She is survived by her daughter, Madonna Cupit of Port Neches; sister, Johnnie Brown of Hemphill, TX; 3 Grandchildren; and 6 Great- Grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James O. Wilson; 2 sons, James C. Wilson and John T. Wilson; and 2 grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, January 14th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. Services will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, Rev. David Birdsong officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
Memorials can be given to Community Care Prayer Outreach, Nederland, TX.

Viola Day Marshall

PORT ARTHUR - Viola Day Marshall, 58, of Port Arthur, TX passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at her residence. A native of New Iberia, LA, she was a resident of Port Arthur for 37 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard Day, Sr. and Louise Day; and daughter, Latricey Marshall.
She is survived by her husband, Victor Marshall of Long Beach, CA; a daughter, Drunell Marshall of Jacksonville, FL; a son, Denard Marshall of Port Arthur, TX; sisters, Linda Jones (Mason), Doris Rue (Nathan, Sr.), Dianna Day, Gayla Day, Denise James, all of Port Arthur, TX; one brother, Howard (Erica) Day, Jr. of Tulsa, OK; 7 grandchildren, Nikeeda, Regina, Jazzmyne, Madison, Mykel, Javell, Derick, and Little; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held Monday, 11 a.m. at Gabriel Funeral Home in Port Arthur, TX.

Jack Betencourt, Sr.

Jack Betencourt, Sr., 88, of Call, Texas died Friday, March 28, 2008 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 31, at Adams EE Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at trout Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
A native of Florida, he had lived in Kirbyville 19 years and was a retired Merchant Marine and a retired Machinist for Marine Industrial. He was a U.S. Merchant Marine Veteran of World War II (1941-1945) where he earned miscellaneous metals including Honorable service, Victory Metal WWII, Pacific War Zone, Mariner’s Metal, Middle-East War Zone, Combat Bar and Atlantic War Zone Metal.
Our dad never met a stranger and always had a great story to tell. His family meant the world to him and he truly loved his Lord and Savior. He is survived by his wife, Louise Betencourt of Call; five daughters, Patricia Capps of Lometa, TX, Pam Tillman and husband, James of Nederland, Cynthia Ward of Pt. Arthur, Deborah Bellanger and husband, Michael of Bridge City, and Ruby Betencourt Morgan and husband, Roger of Call; 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Many thanks to Statcare for taking care of Dad for the last five years, also to Dr. Zaphar and staff and the Jasper Kidney Center Staff for their care of our dad.

Arthur Watson "Shorty" Sept. 3, 1926 - Sept. 13, 2006

PORT ARTHUR - Arthur Watson, 80, of Cheneyville, LA and a lifelong resident of Port Arthur, TX, passed away at his home Wednesday, September 13, 2006. He was employed and retired from American Petro Fina Refinery (Laboratory).
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 23, 2006. Visitation is scheduled from 9 am - 11 am at Saint Marks Missionary Baptist Church, 6200 Roosevelt Ave., Rev. Robert L. Perry, Rev. Charlie Watson and Rev. Herman Perry will be officiating.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Annie Jackson; one son, Patrick Watson; one sister, Lottie Perry and three brothers, Benjamin, Charlie Sr., and Ruffus Watson.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife Olivia (Roy) Watson of Port Arthur; twelve children, Margarette Jefferson (Robert), Deborah Mayfield, Jacqueline Shelton (Dan), Elane Greene (Patrick) all of Port Arthur, Barbara Linderman (Jeff) of Anchorage, Alaska, Wanda Coleman (Terry) of Vancouver, WA, Clara Brown of Houston, Arthur Watson Jr. (Juanitta) and Donald Watson (Latraia) of Beaumont, Shepherd Watson of Port Arthur; brother, Henry Watson of Baldwin, LA and one sister-in-law; thirty-seven grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Kim King Salter

NEDERLAND - Kim King Salter, 47, died at her home in Nederland on Sunday, September 17, 2006. She was born in Port Arthur, Texas on June 2, 1959 to Anna Belle and Fred King. She was a longtime resident of the area. Kim graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1977 and Lamar University with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing and an Associate Degree in Accounting. She was a member of First Southern Methodist Church in Port Arthur.
A Memorial Service will be held at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Rick Erwin and Rev. Phil Croft, officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be from 10:00 A.M. Saturday until service time.
Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of Clayton Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Anna Belle King. She is survived by her daughter, Kelsey Miller of Nederland, Texas; Sister, Karen Croft and her husband, Phil of Nederland, Texas; Niece, Amy Croft and nephews, Jason Oliver and Justin Croft along with Kelsey’s step-father, Clay Salter of Nederland, Texas and her aunts and uncles.

Dennis James Finney

GROVES - Dennis James Finney, 61, of Groves, Texas died Monday, September 18, 2006.
Dennis was born on May 30, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois to Donald Finney and Lucille Dawson Finney. He was a resident of Groves and Vidor area for 15 years and was employed by Marine Fueling as a dispatcher for 24 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in Vietnam.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 23, 2006 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas with Chaplain Mike Eaves officiating.
Survivors include his daughters, Megan Lampman of Orange, TX, Angela Alcorn of Georgia, Kristen LaRue of Tennessee, and Shannon Chadwick of Beaumont, TX; sons, David Finney of Round Lake, IL, and Jason Finney of Beloit, WI; brothers, Gene Finney and Don Finney of Round Lake, IL; and twenty grandchildren.

Printess Micaela Martin

A Memorial Service for Printess Micaela Martin will be held at Eastern Star Baptist Church on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at 9 a.m.

Jerry Broussard

PORT ARTHUR - Jerry Broussard, 79, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at Promise Specialty Hospital in Nederland. He was born in Kaplan, Louisiana on July 28, 1927 to Ella and Olear Broussard. He moved to Port Arthur in 1952 and has been a resident for over 54 years. Jerry worked at Gulfport Shipyard, Levingston Shipbuilding, GeoSource (Houston) and Superior Energies, Inc. in Groves, where he retired after 25 years as a consultant.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port Arthur.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 23, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. D. Stephen McCrate serving as Celebrant. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves. A gathering of friends and family will be on Friday evening from 4 P.M. to 9 P.M. with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Shawn Chappel, Ryan Broussard, John Chatelain, Alex Hautzenroeder, Bobby DeDear and Michael Stanley. Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Hautzenroeder, Adam Broussard and Lane Cappel. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Treva Broussard. He is survived by his daughter, Jerresa Broussard of Groves, Texas; his sons, Craig Broussard of Houston, Texas, Stephen Broussard of Oveeda, Florida, and Dane Broussard of Dallas, Texas and his brother, Curtis Broussard of Lydia, Louisiana. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Misty Cappel, Ryan Broussard, John Chatelain, Brenna Stanley, Alex Hautzenroeder, Cynthia DeDear, Joseph Hautzenroeder, and Adam Broussard, great-grandchildren, Lane Cappel, Mackenzie Cappel and Hallie Cappel.
