Richard Wayne Sikes, Sr., 60, of Paris died Monday August 3, 2009 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 5, 2009 at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Little Vine cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday 7-8 p.m.
He was born May 10, 1949 in Ft. Worth, Texas a son of Prentiss Benson and Bernice Grimes Sikes. He was a brick layer by trade and was of the Baptist faith. His best times were spent hunting and fishing.
Survivors include children, Richard Sikes, Jr. and wife Donna, Katy McClanahan and husband Shawn, Gladys Wilkie and husband Wade; grandchildren, Amber and Brittany McClanahan, and Clark Sikes; Great Grandchild Chasen Andrew Sikes; the mother of his children Rose Kernell; brothers and sisters, Nellie Wells, Aline Lambright, Lottie Millsap, Bernice Robinson, Alice Bryant, Barbara Benoit, Eddie Sikes, Charles Sikes, Billy Sikes along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers Henry Sikes, Benson Sikes and sisters Elizabeth Robinson, Betty Jo Green, Mary Ann Tatum and a grandson Andrew Sikes.
Pallbearers will be Howard Sikes, Jr., Clay Sikes, Clint Sikes, Craig Durham, Eddie Sikes, and Brandon Steed.
James Weldon Slaton

James Weldon Slaton, 47, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at his home, Double J Randch of heart failure.
A memorial service is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, at the Double J Ranch.
A graduate of The University of North Texas and Paris High School, he quickly began his company within the health insurance industry, Slaton Financial Group. A true entrepreneur, he later created and owned mail order prescription drug companies RX Direct and PetScript. Following his long passion for music, he most recently established Big Karma Records, a record label company, which caters to established as well as undiscovered musicians and bands. His highly successful method of bringing various talent together under one roof, quickly made he and Big Karma Records a well known name in the music industry; “Slaton’s contracts were one page, the exact words of our conversation from the previous day.” “His honesty was real and inside of him, nothing fake.” “Exactly what the music business needs today.”
If there were any one person who could and knew how to enjoy life, it was Jim. He was deeply instructed and followed such high purpose.
Throughout his life, his wife, children, family and friends were the most important to him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jolie; daughter, Caroline, 11; son, Pierce, 8; mother and father, Terri and Weldon Slaton; sister, Cindy and husband, Tyler Eddleman; niece, Emily Eddleman; and mother-in-law, Irene Savas.

JUANITA H. HILLHOUSE 82, a longtime resident of Paris, passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at her son’s home in Tampa, Florida. A memorial service is set for 11:00 AM, Monday, August 10, 2009 at Faith Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Kelley and Rev. Brad Aldridge officiating. A private family interment will be held prior to the service on Monday at Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:00 PM on Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
She was born Juanita Hart on October 17, 1926 in the Noble community in Southwest Lamar County and attended schools in Noble and Roxton. She graduated from Roxton High School and 1943 and went to work in support of the war effort at Camp Maxey as an administrative secretary. After World War II she graduated from the business course at Paris Commercial College and worked for Speas Vinegar company and later House Hardware and Furniture Company. Later she worked in sales and bookkeeping for the Collegiate Shoppe.
In May of 1950, she married
US Air Force Lieutenant Tommy F. Blackstone of Altus, Oklahoma. Following his untimely death while on active duty in 1954, she married
Paris physician Dr. Joe Hillhouse on September 14, 1956. He died July 22, 1991.
Known for her devotion to family, service to others, love of life, love of people and love of gardening, at various times she was a member of many civic and service organizations including the Paris Garden Club, the medical auxiliaries at St. Joseph’s Hospital and the Lamar Medical Center as well as the Paris Golf and Country Club, the Elks Club and the Gordon Country Club. She was a faithful member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church and later, Faith Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gacia Hart of Petty and her two husbands. She is survived by one son, Thomas F. Blackstone and wife, Stacy and three granddaughters, Jessica Grace Blackstone, Sarah Elisabeth Blackstone and Abigail Catherine Blackstone, all of Tampa, Florida. She is also survived by one brother, John W. Norton of Paris, a niece, Dr. Lorrie N. Rhodes of Paris and several cousins. She will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial gifts be made to Faith Presbyterian Church in Paris or to LifePath Hospice in Tampa, Florida.
Asked to serve as pallbearers are Murray Riddles, Joel Guest, Bill Mercy, Bart Hadley, Mike Kennedy, and John Bassano. Honorary pallbearers will be Mackey Charles, Don Rhodes, Dr. Jim Miles, Hack Blankinship, Bob Haggard, and Charlie Parkman.

Surrounded by his family, Roy Neil Gunter, 82, went into the presence of his Lord on Monday, September 14, 2009 at Legends Healthcare. He was a resident of Paris.
Roy Neil Gunter was born on December 31, 1926 in the West Post Oak Community in Lamar County the son of Roy J. and Vesta Smith Gunter. He married
Betty Edington on April 14, 1947 at the Methodist Church in Greenville, Texas making 62 years of memories.
Neil in his earlier years worked for Ideal Bread and Lamar Creamery, operated a Texaco and Conoco Gas Stations, and was in the trucking business. He was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, a member of the Paris Masonic Lodge (32nd degree Mason), past member of the Paris Rodeo and Horse Club, and the Lamar County Sheriff’s Posse. He proudly served in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II. Neil raised and trained Quarter Horses and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He loved animals especially his dog and enjoyed listening to blue grass music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister June Gunter Nabors, and a son Ken Gunter.
Surviving are his spouse Betty Gunter of Paris; children Sharon and Danny Martin of Paris, Kay and Tommy Nichols of Mt. Pleasant, Dennis and Ann Thomas Gunter of Paris and Rita and Timothy Norris of Paris. The joy of his life were his grandchildren and great- grandchildren Jeffrey Martin and wife Brittany of Paris, Shelly Martin Pack and husband Bill of San Antonio, Traci Gunter Davis and husband Paul of Grand Prairie, Melissa Gunter Gibson and husband Brandon of Paris, Cassie Nichols of Brooklyn, NY, Jana Gunter Allen and husband Zachary of Deport, David and Angie Thomas of Georgia Community, Elizabeth and Troy Albert of Paris, Emily Gunter of Paris, Jamie Kay Norris Eady of Canton, and Kevin and Janna Norris of Tigertown and great grandchildren Molly and McKenzie Martin, Jordan and Emma Davis, Meredith and Marlee Pack, Kellan and Piper Gibson, Kaylee and Carson Thomas, Devin Faber, and Taylor and Payton Norris. He is also survived by a niece Becky Nabors Schaefer; nephews Dickie Nabors and Ronnie Nabors; an aunt Alla Mae Smith; and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadowbrook Gardens with Jeff Martin, Bill Pack, Paul Davis, Brandon Gibson, David Thomas, Zach Allen, and Troy Albert serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be J.T. Stephens, Dr. Wally Kraft, and Larry Buster. Family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Tuesday evening at the Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.

JENNIFER RENEE RITCHEY WESTMORELAND 35, of Paris, died at 1:22 PM, Saturday, September 12, 2009 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 17, 2009 in Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Dickey officiating. Interment will follow in Detroit cemetery in Detroit. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home. The family will also be at the home of Jack and Sharon Ritchey, 1288 FR 2648 in Powderly. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Westmoreland was born January 18, 1974 in Longview, Texas to Jock and Mattie Brannon Ritchey. She worked many jobs, but her love and talent was floral design. Mrs. Westmoreland graduated from Chisum High School and was a member of the Glory Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mattie Ritchey. Survivors include her husband, Chad Westmoreland of Paris; two daughters, Cortnie and Taylor Westmoreland of the home; her father, Jock Ritchey of Detroit; two brothers, Jerry Ritchey and wife, Marcy and Terry Ritchey and wife, Debbie, all of Paris; a sister, Judy Crouch of Quinlan, Texas; and a very special uncle, Jack Ritchey of Paris.
Pallbearers will be Keith Perry, Chase Crouch, Billy White, Jeff Ingram, Zach Ingram, and Scott Bedell. Honorary pallbearers are Martha Thurman, Becky Allen, and Carole Woodard.
Neil Edward Anderson

Neil Edward Anderson age 61 of Clardy, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, September 11, 2009 after a brief illness. He said numerous times, “If I die it is because of Rhonda’s cooking at the Sunriser”.
Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of cremation arrangements. A private gathering of remembrance and scattering of the ashes will be held at a later date.
Neil was born on October 29, 1947 in Paris, Texas to Durwood E. and Edith Lucille Taylor Anderson. He married
Jacque Sue McCarrell on December 31, 1965 in Lamar County.
Neil had a humorous but serious personality. He was very loving and kind hearted. He attended Paris High School and was a member of East Paris Baptist Church in his youth. He was retired from the trucking industry and bought and sold many loads of choice Alfalfa hay in the surrounding states. He was known as “Easy Money” to his fellow trucking compares. He has a passion for collecting old coins, gold and jewelry.
His favorite pastime was spending time with his beloved wife, Jacque Sue and his faithful and wild little dog, Cricket. He looked forward to going to the Sunrise, “The Greasy Spoon” Café and visiting his many friends there. He especially got a kick out of scaring them with his ferocious dog! He knew a lot about everything. If you didn’t believe him all you had to do was ask him.
He will most be remembered by his “John Wayne” attitude and his “Teddy Bear” heart and his uncanny was of telling it like it is.
Left to cherish his memories is his loving wife, Jacque Sue Carrel Anderson; daughter, Kim Anderson of Blossom; grandson, Cody McNealy, whom was the light of his life. He was so proud of Cody, so Cody let your light shine on. He is also survived by a son, John Edward Anderson and wife Sherry of Paris; grandchildren, Coby and Chase Sikes of Paris; sister, Patsy Delores and husband Donnie Lee Collard of Paris; special niece, Lisa Day Pynes of Pattonville; sister-in-law, Debbie McCarrell Stringfellow and husband William “Bill” of Bogata; brothers, Randy McCarrell and wife Edna, Roddy McCarrell and wife Linda, Bobby McCarrell and wife Billie, Eddie McCarrell and wife Carolyn all of Paris; brother-in-law, Calvin Day of Pattonville; nieces, Debra Kay Collar, Becky Weemes, Kathy Burton of Lamar County along with numerous other friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Durwood E. and Edith Lucille Taylor Anderson; sister, Judith Anderson Day; nephew, Kevin Lee Day whom he greatly missed and is now reunited with.

Eugene J. Henry, 83, of Sulphur Springs, went to be with his heavenly father Monday, September 7, 2009 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home will conduct graveside services at 2:00 p.m. Friday Sept. 11, 2009 at Meadowbrook Gardens cemetery in Paris with Pastor Kenneth G. Rhoades officiating. The family will receive friends at Central Baptist Church, 840 Connally St. in Sulphur Springs Thursday from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Friends may also sign the register at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home at other times.
He was born August 11, 1926 in the Slate Shoals community the son of Allie Francis and Mollie Mae Davis Henry. He attended schools at Slate Shoals, Powderly High School and Paris Junior College. He married
Thelma Frances Still on Oct. 9, 1947. She died Oct. 27, 2005. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II which included a tour of duty overseas in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a 50 year Mason in the lodge #27 in Paris. He was employed by the Lone Star Gas Company for 40 years. He held various positions in the East Texas area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Frances Henry, a brother Hal H. Henry and sister-in-law, Jessie Henry.
Survivors include a son, Larry Henry and wife Ann of Tyler; grandchildren, Curtis Woodall of Fort Worth, Teresa Bauer of Louisville, KY; Gena Lynch and husband, Patrick of Plano, Shelley Henry of Dallas; great-grandsons Daniel Walters of Carrollton, KY, Cameron Patrick Henry Lynch of Plano; a niece, Janie Duke of Paris; great niece, Judy Dye of Covington, WA; sister-in-law, Geneva Henry of Paris and many wonderful friends and neighbors.
