THALIA SKEEN McCARTER 84, of Paris, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Tremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dallas, Texas. Funeral services are set for 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 27, 2010 in the chapel of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Dickey officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Carl McCarter; her parents Roy and Jewel Skeen; her sisters Patsy Edmonds and Margaret Harcrow. She is survived by her son William “Skip” McCarter of Dallas, Texas; her twin sister Thelia Jones, formerly of Paris; and a sister, Betty Thompson of Cooper, Texas.

Thalia was born March 4, 1925 in the Mount Joy Community of Delta County, Texas. She graduated from Enloe High School and was a registered nurse having obtained her nurses training at The Sanitarium in Paris, Wilson Jones in Sherman and Parkland Hospital in Dallas. She was a registered nurse at L.P. McCuistion and St. Joseph’s Hospitals in Paris for many years, then afterwards, was Company Nurse at Campbell Soup Company in Paris. After retiring from nursing, she was a greeter at Walmart in Paris, which gave her the opportunity to see all of her friends. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Paris and attended Graham Street Baptist Church in years past influencing the spiritual life of many people. She was a kindhearted woman who loved gardening, cooking and fellowshipping with friends and family.

Skip would like to give special thanks to the loving and caring staff of nurses at Tremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center as well as Medical City in Dallas, Hospice Plus in Dallas, and to Risa Goldstein and Myrtie Rice who helped care for his Mother.

Lynette Faye Lowrie Kenemore
January 24, 2010
Lynette Faye Lowrie Kenemore, 54, of Detroit passed away Sunday January 24, 2010 at Dubuis Hospital. A memorial service will be Saturday January 30, 2010 at the First Christian Church in Detroit at 11:00 a.m.

She was born in Kansas July 9, 1955 a daughter of Dennis and Lillie May Scott Lowrie. Lynette was a homemaker and loving Mother and a good Christian lady.

Survivors include Tommy Knenmore and son Chris Kenemore of Detroit; a brother Dana Lowrie of Albuquerque New Mexico.

If desired, donations may be made to the missions program at First Christian Church, 665 S. Main, Detroit, Texas 75436.

Elva Lavonia Hunter
January 23, 2010
Elva Lavonia Waterman Hunter, 86, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Paris Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 27, 2010, in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. John Brown and Rev. Don Morton officiating. Burial will follow in the Pyles cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. till 9:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.

She was the daughter of Charley and Mary Ellender Beck Waterman, born March 11, 1923, in Paris. She married Arvel Wayne Hunter July 30, 1946, in Paris. Mrs. Hunter was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and five brothers, Herman, Clyde, Emmett, Eldon and Melvin Waterman.

Survivors include her sister, Vivian Wheeler of Reno; brother, Gene Waterman of Mineola; two children, A.W. Hunter, Jr. of Norman, OK; Rita Burden and husband Kevin of Lancaster, KY; four grandchildren, Jennifer Tully and husband Patrick of Van Nuys, CA; Tyson Hunter and wife Chiara of DuPont, WA; Angela Burden of Nashville, TN, Anthony Burden of Lancaster, KY; two great grandchildren, River Hunter and Ivy Tully; numerous nieces and nephews; her many friends at the Blossom Ladies’ Bible Study and Ramseur Baptist Church of which she was a member.

Mary Majors

Mrs. Mary Majors died in Bossier City, LA March 24, 2010. Services will be held, at Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Paris, Texas, Saturday March 27, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in the Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. Majors was born in Ben Franklin, TX and was a resident of Bossier City, LA for 48 yrs. She was a homemaker that overcame the challenges of her disabilities, having been stricken with polio at the age of 16; she was also a 10 yr. survivor of breast cancer. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren, with whom she had a large influence in their lives. She was admired and loved by all that knew her and will be greatly missed

Mrs. Majors was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Oats; husband, Jesse Majors; sister and brother-in-law, Ima and Jimmy Catrina, and great grandson Jesse J. Majors.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Miller and husband Ed Miller; son Dwayne Majors, and daughter-in-law Louise Majors; daughter Debbie Smith, and son-in-law Michael Smith; 3 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren; step great grandchildren; nieces and nephews

Nancy Ruth Jackson Butler

Nancy Ruth Jackson Butler, 66, originally from Clarksville passed away, Tuesday March 23, 2010, at her daughter’s home in Red Oak, Texas.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 26, 2010 in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Cindy Baker Burnett officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen cemetery with Paul Weaver, Marc Jackson, Perry Kolb, Dale Henson, David Dunmon, David House, and Taylor Gilreath seving as pallbearers. Family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. till 7:00 P.M. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Butler was born July 4, 1943 in Paris, Texas. She was a dedicated teacher retiring after 42 years. She taught at Emory, New Boston, and Clarksville and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paris.

She was preceded in death by a son, John David Butler, her parents Carl & Daisy Ivey Jackson, and a brother-in-law Gene Weaver.

Nancy is survived by a daughter, Wendy Faulkner and husband Travis of Red Oak; grandchildren, Brady Faulkner and Brooke Faulkner; sisters, Mary Jackson of Paris and Betty Jackson Weaver of Avery; brother, Richard Jackson and wife Peggy of Dallas; numerous nieces and nephews; a special friend, Gail Clarke of Paris.

Michael Dean Vandever

Michael Dean Vandever, 50, of Mesquite, went home to be with the Lord March 22, 2010. Funeral services will be March 27, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home in Paris, Texas with the Rev. Dr. Marsha Middleton officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen cemetery in Paris.

The family will receive friends and family March 26, from 7-8 p.m. at Fry-Gibbs.

A devoted husband to Noël Wilson Vandever, whom he married January 13, 2001, Michael was proud father to Shaun Michael Sartin and Preston Michael Vandever. The loving son of Betty Preston Vandever and the late Mearl Vandever, Michael was born August 4, 1959 in Panama City, Florida. He was raised in many places both here and abroad returning to Paris with his family in the tenth grade. He graduated from Paris Junior College with an associate’s degree. He served proudly in the U.S. Air Force where he was honored to be a member of the U.S. Air Force band. He was employed by L-3 Communications for 21 years and volunteered many hours with the Boy Scouts of America.

Anyone who knew Michael was touched by his kind spirit and gentle nature. His compassion and understanding earned the love and respect from all the loved ones he reached out to with a listening ear, a supportive hand, a friendly embrace, or a hearty laugh. His love for his family was evident to anyone who ever witnessed his loving interactions with his son and stepson, his wife, his sisters and nieces. Michael was a rock for his family, and while he will be sorely missed, he has transitioned from an angel on earth to an angel above.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mearl Dean Vandever; a brother, Stephen Thomas Vandever; a grandfather and grandmother, Samuel and Evelyn Anderson Preston; a grandfather and grandmother, Tom and Audie Robbins Vandever; an aunt and uncle, Ovie Jewel and Monroe Duff, an aunt and uncle Robbie Faye and William “Buddy” Mullins, an uncle and aunt Henry and Mary Lou Vandever, and an aunt Clara Nell Allen; and uncles Frank Meyer, Louie Joe Preston, Kenneth Ray Preston, Jack Underwood, Jerry Donald Preston, Hershel McDaniel; a step father, Ray Bangs; and a mother-in-law, Kathryn LaRue Crawley Wilson.

Michael is survived by his wife and sons; his mother; a sister and her husband, Evelyn and David Knettel, of Florida, and their children and spouses, Elizabeth Knettel, of Dallas, Stephen Knettel, Todd and Janine Knettel, and Christopher and Melissa Knettel, of Minnesota; a sister and her husband, Joanne and Howard Harris and their daughters, Aisleen and Stephanie, of Arlington; a sister-in-law and her husband, Karen and Bary Graves and their sons Joshua and Jeremy, of Arlington; a sister-in-law and her husband, Lynn and Glen Campbell and their children, Samantha, Melissa, and Evan, of North Carolina; a sister-in-law and her husband, Robin and Jonathan Proctor, of Nebraska; a father-in-law, Raymond J. Wilson, of Mansfield; a aunt, Annabelle Meyer, of Paris; a aunt and uncle, Wanda and Tommy Jones of Paris; a aunt, Helen Underwood, of Waco; a aunt and uncle, Joyce and Tommy Wheeler, of Hawkins; a aunt, Leoma McDaniel, of Holliday; a uncle and aunt, Howard and Sharon Vandever, of Springfield, Missouri; a uncle, Felix Vandever, of Balch Springs; a step brother and his wife, Brett and Annette Bangs, of Paris; a step sister, Suzanne Kula, of Paris; a step sister and her husband, Monja and Ronnie Smith, of Paris; Aunts Mary Ruth Preston, Mary Vincil, Carolyn Williamson; numerous cousins; and many other loved ones and friends.

Minnie Elizabeth Sherwood

MINNIE ELIZABETH SHERWOOD 89, of Paris, died at 10:55 PM, Friday, March 19, 2010 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. Funeral services are set for 1:00 PM, Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in the chapel of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Herbert Sherwood officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Sherwood was born September 24, 1920 in Telephone, Texas to Robert Wesley and Jewel Riley Chambers. She graduated from high school and married Miles Lowry Sherwood on November 6, 1937. He died May 28, 1988. Mrs. Sherwood received her LVN license on March 25, 1960 and worked as a scrub nurse for Dr. Donald R. Lewis for several years prior to her retirement. She was a long-time member of the Southside Baptist Church.

Mrs. Sherwood is survived by two children, Miles Alvin Sherwood and his wife, Jean of Duncanville and Geraldine Gentry and her husband, Carl of DeSoto; three grandchildren, Michelle Latini of Phoenix, Arizona, Kristi Morales of Duncanville, and Miles Alvin Sherwood, Jr. and wife, Viviana of San Diego, California; five great-grandchildren, Jordan Stewart of London, England, Joshua Stewart of Phoenix, Daniel and Gabriela Morales of Duncanville, and Miles Enrique Sherwood of San Diego; two sisters, Laura Blassingame of Paris and Georgie Juanita Rickner and husband, Bill of Drumright, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Bob, Richard, Billy, and J.E. Chambers; and one sister, Nora Hinton.

Kiryn Quay'Shon Moore

Kiryn Quay’Shon Moore, infant son of Marketa Desha Walker and William Eugene Moore, Jr. was born and died at 4:11 PM, Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at Paris Regional Medical Center North. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 20, 2010 in the chapel of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Calvin Hickerson officiating with cremation to follow. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Kiryn is survived by his mother and father; two sisters, Darria Smith and Amiyah Wallace Moore; one brother, Donavon Moore; grandparents, Delishea Walker, Dennis Young, and Gayla and William Moore; great-grandparents, Debra and Howard Robinson, Helen Clement, Sharlyn and Jimmy Mims, Willie and William Moore, Esley Bailey III, and Shepbert Sanders; and a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a great-grandmother, Mildred Sanders; and three great-great-grandmothers, Nellie McKnight, Clemmie Phillips, and Odessa Bailey.

Doris Marie McDougal, 56, of Paris, passed away Tuesday March 16, 2010 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday March 18, at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Long cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday 5-6 p.m.

She was born March 11, 1954 in Paris a daughter of Eugene and Louise Douglas Day. She married Robert “Rusty” McDougal April 17, 2001. She worked in food service at Campbell Soup Co. and Kimberly Clark and was a member of the Family Worship Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, “Rusty”; children Shawn McDougal, Michael Paul McDougal, Billy Miller; grandson Colby Miller; brothers Michael Day, Mickey Day; sisters Brenda Vaughan and husband Bobby, Cheryl McKnight and husband Randy; nephews and nieces including Cindy Vaughan and Shelly Chennault.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Exum, Bill Brumley, Ron Caraway, Chad Coursey, John Blalock and Don Denison.
