DOROTHY JO DAVIS 81, of Paris, died at 9:40 AM, Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Legend Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. A funeral service is set for 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 22, 2010 in the chapel of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home with Patrick Cannon officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet cemetery in Hugo, Oklahoma. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 PM, Friday evening at the funeral home. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy was born August 17, 1928 in Hugo to John W. and Emma Combs Bell. She graduated from Hugo High School and married Delbert Horace Davis on June 7, 1946 in Ashdown, Arkansas. She was a homemaker and member of the Lamar Avenue Church of Christ.

Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband, Delbert Davis of Paris; two sons, Garry Davis and wife, Karla of Paris and Brent Davis and wife, Shannon of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Chance Davis of Austin, Brionne Davis of New York City, New York, Kerri Davis of Parker, Colorado, Mark Davis of Dallas, Jill Davis of New Braunfels, Texas, Erin Davis, Emma Davis and Eliza Davis, all of Oklahoma City, a daughter-in-law, Celia Davis of Round Rock, Texas; three brothers, Cecil Bell and wife, Mary of Hugo, Walter Bell and wife, Glenda of Altus, Oklahoma, and Bobby Bell and wife, Delia of Hugo; one sister, Bessie Pruitt of Little Rock, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dwight Davis; and one daughter, Debra Davis.

Merwin Moss Sr.

Merwin Latham Moss Sr., 69 of Powderly, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010 at his home.

Funeral services have been set for Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Sanders officiating. Interment will follow at Ben Franklin cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.

He was born February 7, 1941 in Ben Franklin, Texas to John F. and Bernice Pauline Latham Moss. He married Wanda Cole on June 9, 1962. He attended the Powderly Church of God.

He is survived by his his wife, Wanda Jean Moss; five children, Merwin Latham Moss, Jr. and wife Nikki of Chicota, Kim Moss and Burnie Vanderburg of Novice, Melissa Moss and fiancé Jason Dickson of Powderly, Terry Campbell of Minnesota, Sherry Campbell of Powderly; sixteen grandchildren, Heather Hoffman-Moss, Britney Moss, Carley Moss, Lindsay Moss, Natalie Moree, Ashlie Miller, Mandy Hughes, Aaron Basinger, Eric Basinger. Chuck Lowry Jr., Jessica Borton, Tony Wayne, Valerie Ashley, Kenneth Sims Jr., Ken Sims, Kristina Campbell, twenty six great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha Schifleet and husband Sammy of San Antonio, Faye Ellison and husband Don of Waxahachie; brother, John F. Moss Jr. and wife Peggy of Pecan Gap and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cyndi Lowry; parents, John and Bernice Moss; brother, Dan Moss.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Burnie Vanderburg, Robby Matlock, Curtis Brown, Steve Jackson, Larry Jackson, Jason Dickson. Honorary Pallbearer will be Ray Poole.

Charlie Hulsey

CHARLIE HULSEY 69, of Paris, died at 1:15 PM, Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Paris Regional Medical Center-North. Funeral services are set for 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 4010 Old Bonham Road with Bro. Irby Self officiating. The body will lie at the funeral home from Tuesday morning until 12:00 noon on Wednesday prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mount Tabor cemetery. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Charlie was born June 17, 1940 in Mount Ida, Arkansas to Oscar Franklin and Katie Cornelius Stevenson Hulsey. He graduated from Hugo High School and attended Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon and received his machinist training at Paris Junior College. He was a machinist for Babcock & Wilcox Corporation for 30 years prior to his retirement. He was currently employed at the Shoppers Edge as circulation manager.

Mr. Hulsey married Dorothy Harvey on May 25, 1963 in Hugo, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

“Papa” is survived by his wife, Dorothy Harvey Hulsey of Paris; three children, Chris Hulsey and wife, Kristi of Pearland, Texas, Cheryl Metts and husband, Barron of Paris, and Kimberly Hulsey of Santa Monica, California; five grandchildren, Conrad Hulsey, Augusta Hulsey, Heather Hulsey, McKayla Metts, and Ian Hulsey; and one brother, Leon Hulsey of Kilgore. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Glen, Benny, and Willis Hulsey; two sisters, Mary Thompson and Delphia Murphy; and two infant granddaughters, Virgila Dae and Sheles Adell Hulsey.

Pallbearers will be Chris Hulsey, Barron Metts, Glenn Harvey, Vernest Harvey, Larry Hulsey, Benny Hulsey, Scott Goodman, Levi Matthews, Dexter Jackson, and Defon Mergel .

Edythe McIntosh

EDYTHE McINTOSH 94, of Paris, died at 11:30 PM, Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the Christian Care Center in Mesquite, Texas. A graveside service is set for 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 16, 2010 at Meadowbrook Gardens cemetery with Patrick Cannon officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Miss McIntosh was born January 12, 1916 to Bentley and Bobbie Mae Pettit McIntosh in Pattonville. She graduated from Pattonville Schools and received her degree from East Texas State University. She was the coordinator of curriculum for the county schools for many years. Miss McIntosh was a longtime and faithful member of the Lamar Avenue Church of Christ.

Known by her nieces and nephews as “Aunt Edie”, she loved and cared for them as if they were her own children and she will be greatly missed.

Miss McIntosh is survived by two nieces, Paulette Householder of Garland and Kay Scott and husband, Robert of Round Rock; one nephew, John McIntosh and wife, Beverly of Coppell; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Aloise McIntosh, Eloise McDowra, and Ethel Rheudasil; one brother, L.J. McIntosh; and a nephew, Mike Rheudasil.

Mary Ruth Fuqua

Mary Ruth Fuqua, 92, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Colonial Lodge Retirement Center.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 2:30 P.M. at Roxton First Baptist Church with James Jackson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Restland Cemtery in Roxton.

She was the youngest daughter of W.A. and Stella Burge, born in Hugo, Oklahoma in 1917. She grew up in Paris and attended Paris schools and Paris Business College.

She married Arthur Fuqua of Roxton in 1940 in Hugo and they made their home in Roxton. Arthur preceded her in death in 1995. She attended First Baptist Church in Roxton where she taught both adult and children’s Sunday school classes for many years. Mary Ruth retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

She never had any children of her own but doted on her ten nieces and nephews and their children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Fuqua; parents, W.A. and Stella Burge; brothers, Alfonzo, Paul and her sister, Catherine.

Pauline Avery

Pauline Avery, 88, formerly of Honey Grove passed away Tuesday May 11, 2010 at Legend Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday May 13, at Main Street Presbyterian Church in Honey Grove with Rev. Ken Sheppard-Mahaffey officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home 7 – 8 pm and one hour prior to service time at the church Thursday from 10 until 11 am.

She was born August 1, 1921 in Bagby, Texas a daughter of Frank and Carra Shelton Wishard. She married Johnny Avery May 11, 1947 in Honey Grove. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting and cooking, where many people enjoyed receiving one of her angel food cakes. She belonged to the Bertha Voyer Memorial Library and was a member of Main Street Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny, her parents Frank and Carra Wishard; an infant brother John Larry Wishard and a grandson-in-law Justin Morrison.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Glover and husband Steve; grandchildren Allison Morrison, Amanda Justice and husband Gary; great grandchildren Tyler Morrison, Kelsey Morrison, Megan Morrison; a brother Gerald Wishard and wife Peggy of Honey Grove; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be James Wishard, Kenneth Wishard, Ricky Snell, Roger Joyce, Bob Milford, Bob Upchurch. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Yarbrough and Bill Thurman.

If desired memorials may be made to Main Street Presbyterian Church of Honey Grove, Dial Baptist Church, Honey Grove Cowboy Church or Premier Hospice.

David Loper

DAVID LOPER
David Loper, 48, of Plano passed away Tuesday May 11, 2010 at his home. Funeral services will be held at Hunters Glen Baptist Church, 4001 Custer Rd., Plano, TX at 11:00 am Saturday May 15 with Rev. Ken Cannon officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery in Paris at 4:00 pm Saturday. The family will receive friends at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home in Paris Friday from 6 until 7 pm and one hour prior to service Saturday at the Hunters Glen Baptist Church 10-11 am.

David was born May 4, 1962 in Waco a son of Robert Edward and Mary Ann White Loper. He married Michele Shifo in Jamaica on July 5, 1997. He worked for ATMOS Energy as a contract administrator and was a member of Park Heights Baptist Church in San Angelo.

David was beloved as a husband, a son, a friend. He was valued as a co-worker. He was regarded for his courage and stamina. He was known for his quick wit and dry humor. Those who knew him best will remember his soft heart and gentleness.

The last nine years of David's life were a demonstration of strength and determination in his courageous battle with cancer. Surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy finally took their toll on David's body. Tumors continued to develop, but David's fighting spirit and will to live never ceased.

To quote one of David's clients, "You have been a light in our lives since day one, and we love you dearly."

Survivors include his wife Michele Loper; mother Mary Ann Hooten and husband Danny; father Robert Loper of West Palm Beach and a brother Bobby Loper of Orlando; his favorite cat, Tommy and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Norris "Stretch" Rideaux, Jimmy Crutcher, Russ Brown, Dave Flowers, Brian Woods and Charles Woods.

J T Bryan

JT Bryan, 83, of Paris died Sunday May 9, 2010 at 10:30 am at Paris Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday May 12, 2010 with Marvin Weir officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday 6-7 pm.

He was born January 7, 1927 in Childress, TX a son of Roy and Lydia Ballard Bryan. He married Cathryn Bowman on July 26, 1947 in Paris. He served his country proudly in the United States Army where he was stationed in Greenland. He worked for American National Insurance Co. until his retirement in 1989. He then owned and operated the Paris Violin Shop where his passion was keeping old time bluegrass, country and gospel music alive through his teaching and playing guitar and fiddle with many friends of all ages. JT was a deacon at Bonham St. Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ruth Usry.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Cathryn Bryan; five children Kay Thurmon, Jan Boyd and husband Craig, Pam Goodwin, Joe Bryan and Jim Bryan; grandchildren Kristi Thurmon, Bryan Thurmon, Secily Satcher, Katie Warner, Ty Jordan, Jake Satcher, Ragin Bryan, Erin Moore, Jayce Cothren, Jami Birdsong, Trey Bryan and Tyler Bryan; great grandchildren, Si and Jade Pearson, Gracie, Grant, and Hagen Jordan, Drew Thurmon, Evey Birdsong, and Cade Cothren; brother, Sebourn Bryan along with many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bryan Thurmon, Ty Jordan, Jake Satcher, Trey Bryan, Rod Ashmore, and Jodi Birdsong.

If desired, memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation or the Bonham Street Church of Christ.
