Albert Ross Brooks, Jr., 73, of Paris passed away Thursday May 22, 2008 at his home. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Sunday May 25th at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with Patrick Cannon officiating.
He was born August 30, 1934 in Lamar County a son of Albert R. and Bertha Brooks. He married
Shirley Ann Fuqua Hargis in Paris January 27, 1982. He served his country in the Army. He enjoyed watching the TV evangelists, reading anything that was biblical, always listened to the Cowboy Church services on the Radio on Sunday mornings, Politics, and collecting ink pens from anyone who would give him one. He was employed at Campbell Soup Co. and he attended the Westwood Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Shirley Ann Brooks; a son, David R. Brooks; brother, Hollis Brooks and wife, Janice of Texarkana; three step-children, David Hargis and wife Julia, Denishia Gentry and husband Steve both of Paris and Debra Hudgins and husband Steve of Broken Bow. He was preceded in death by his Parents and a Sister.
Ellis (Tom) Ray Nichols

ELLIS RAY “Tom” NICHOLS 72, of Paris, died at 12:16 PM, Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Paris Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are set for 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 24, 2008 in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Smith and Rev. Royce Dickey officiating. Burial will follow in Rockford cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Nichols was born February 24, 1936 in Lamar County to Emmett Franklin and Ava Beatrice Jetton Nichols. He graduated from Powderly schools and served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. Mr. Nichols married
Deloyce “Lois” Laverne McDowell June 11, 1966 in Hugo. She died October 8, 2004. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Mr. Nichols is survived by six children, Tommy Ray Nichols and wife, Regina, Sherry Powell and husband, Freddie, Jerry Nichols and girlfriend, Melissa Massey, Jeffery Nichols, Linda Applegate and husband, Johnny, and Shirley Beason and husband, David; daughters-in-law, Gerry Nichols, Dorinda Anderson, and Janice Denham; 24 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Scotty Nichols and wife, Mary; and two sisters, Doris Anderson and husband, Gene and Lawanda Marshall. He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter; and two brothers, Jack and Jerry Nichols.
Pallbearers will be Houston Powell, Shane McCann, Jermey Rosson, Jimmy Smith, Jesse Applegate, and Jason Marshall. An honorary pallbearer will be Roger Hines.
Bobby Wayne Allen
Bobby Wayne Allen, 62, of Blossom passed away Sunday, June 1, 2003, in Christus St. Joseph's Hospital South.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, in Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with John Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow in the Knights of Honor cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at the funeral home.
He was born June 22, 1940, in Paris, a son of Morris and Martha Lane Calton Allen. He was a tree trimmer for Whitmire Tree Service in Pilot Point and served in the National Guard. He married
Claudine Roland on Nov. 18, 1960, in Blossom. They were married
for 42 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Morris Allen and a brother, Ronnie Allen.
Survivors include his wife, Claudine Allen; children, Mark Wayne Allen, Autumn Holly Rushing and Roland Duane Allen; grandchildren, Danny Shane Chennault, Joshua Wayne Newkirk, Ashley Ranea Chennault and Brandon Gage Allen; brothers, Roger Allen, Raymond Robertson, Earnie Robertson, Stevie Robertson, Chuck Allen and Rickey Allen; sisters, Janice Sutton and Sharon Watkins; and his mother, Martha Lane Allen Hardin.
Edward Lynn Sulsar
BOGATA — Edward Lynn Sulsar, 43, of Paris died Monday, June 2, 2003, after going into a diabetic coma from a long battle with diabetes.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, in Bogata United Methodist Church with Dr. Steve Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Bogata cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Homes of Bogata.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at the funeral home.
He was born June 3, 1959, in Alvin, the son of Howard Edward and Sue Arnold Sulsar.
Survivors include his parents, Howard and Sue Sulsar of Paris; one son, Jerred Sulsar of Dallas; one daughter, Jessica Sulsar of Paris; two brothers, Andy Sulsar of Denver, Colo., and Tony Sulsar of Sherman; two sisters, Sandy Tyler and Tammy Evans of Paris; grandmother, Pauline Sulsar of Paris; and a number of nieces and nephews.
His cousins will be his pallbearers.
Shirley Ruth Ewing Pratt
Shirley Ruth Ewing Pratt, 66, of Paris died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Miller, the Rev. Ray Starnes and the Rev. Pam Cline officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at the funeral home.
She was born March 12, 1937, in Guthrie, Okla., a daughter of Sidney Earl and Irene Rose Shelton Ewing. She graduated from Guthrie High School in 1955. She attended Oklahoma State University, graduating in 1959, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She married
Bobby Pratt on Aug. 23, 1959, in Paris. She retired from First Federal Community Bank as comptroller in 1999 after completing 40 years of service. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was involved with C’est La Vie and the FUMC Little Ark Board.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby; a daughter, Sabra Lynn Pratt Vaughan and husband, Donald Joe; grandchildren, Steele Braydon “Steeleman” Vaughan and Easton Quinn “Easy” Vaughan, the lights of her life; two sisters, Joann Kent and husband, Kenneth, of Albany, Mo. and Linda Cameron and husband, Randy, of Guthrie, Okla.; and many, many extended family members and friends.
Pallbearers will include Richard Amis, Pat Bassano, Jeff Wright, Joe Farmer, Chris Mallory and James Vaughan.
If desired, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Little Ark/Children's Ministry.
Billy Edward Rateliff
BOGATA — Billy Edward Rateliff, 71, of Ashdown, Ark., formerly of Red River County, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, in Wadley Hospital in Texarkana.
Graveside services are set for 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at Bogata cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
He was born Oct. 14, 1931, in the Mauldin community of Red River County, a son of Charles Edgar and Flora Lee Mayes Rateliff.
Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly Renea Bryant of Port St. Luci, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Mary Margaret Fansa of Florida; a stepson, Benjamin Owens of Reno, Nev.; four sisters, Melba Varner of Fontana, Calif., Marie Crawford of Hooks, LaVerne Ringold of Nash and Ruby Nell Lennaway of Leary; one brother, Albert Ray Rateliff of San Bernardino, Calif.
Ada Cordelia Bates
Ada Cordelia Bates, 75, of Powderly died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at Pushmataha County Hospital in Antlers, Okla.
Memorial services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at Powderly Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
She was born Feb. 16, 1928, in Seminole, Okla., to George and Helen Standridge Arnold. She married
J.C. Sinclair Bates on Dec. 15, 1948, in Lordsburg, N.M. She was a homemaker and member of Powderly Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband on April 18, 2002; by her parents; and a brother, Leo Arnold.
Survivors include three children, Eugene Bailey and wife, Judy, of Fontana, Calif., Judy Halterman of Antlers and Clifton Bates and wife, Arlene, of Ponder; seven grandchildren, Scott Halterman of Fort Worth, Daniel Halterman of Antlers, Patricia Quinn and Michael Bates, both of Ponder, Shelia Bailey of McKenzie, Tenn., and Sharon Bailey and Sharlotte Bailey, both of Fontana; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bobby Arnold of Utah; and a brother-in-law, Hershel Bates of Antlers.
Silas Joe Birdsong
Silas Joe Birdsong, 76, of Sumner died Monday, July 28, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cary Robinson and the Rev. Othoe Stegall officiating. Burial will follow in Pyles cemetery with Masonic Rites.

He was born April 19, 1927, in Iron Stob, Okla., a son of John Wesley and Mary Jane Garrett Birdsong. He married
Geraldine Winton June 23, 1952, in Paris. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox Co. after working for 19 years. He was a Mason and a member of Lakeway Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Brazier.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Geraldine; four children, Ginger Rose of Mount Vernon, Dickie Birdsong of Paris, David Birdsong of Gordon, Ala., and James Birdsong of Paris; grandchildren, Monti Austin, Jodi Birdsong, Geri Birdsong, Heather Birdsong, Dustin, Megan and Chelsea Birdsong and Jessica Sulsar; great-grandchildren, Josh and Sarah Austin; brothers, Doc Birdsong of Oklahoma City, Okla., Troy Birdsong of Plainview and Luther Birdsong of Amarillo; and sisters, Clara Kirby of Artesia, N.M. and Dessie McNeely of Pittsburg.
Pallbearers will be Duke Spencer, George Spencer, Tommy Frazier, Joe Pridemore, Ray Freeman, Marshall Sugg and Jodi Birdsong.
Ruby Frances Huggins
Ruby Frances Huggins, 80, of Paris died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at her home at which time Bright-Holland Funeral Home received her into their care.
Graveside services will be scheduled later this week in Bucoda, Mo.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, at the funeral home.
The daughter of Louis and Bertha Davidson, she was born April 15, 1923, in West Plains, Mo. She married
Jake Huggins on April 29, 1941, in Cardwell, Mo. He preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1993.
She was a member of Paris Church of God.
Survivors include a son, Larry Huggins and wife, Nora, of Paris; one daughter, Carolyn Herron and husband, Grady, of Longview; four brothers, Fred Davidson, Glenn Ray Davidson, Cecil Davidson and Bob Davidson; three sisters, Joyce Malone, Ella Mae Pritchard and Maxine Sanders; five grandchildren, Tania Reily and husband, Kyle, Kevin Huggins, Victoria Huggins, Jason Herron and Gina Herron; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Huggins, Brittany Huggins, Zach Herron and Keri Herron.
