Mrs. John Henry “Joan” Sanders, 97, of Paris died Tuesday, December 30 2008. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home will conduct graveside services 10:00 a.m. Friday January 2, 2009 at Knights of Honor cemetery with Patrick Cannon officiating. There will be no formal visitation but friends may come by the funeral home to sign the register.
She was born March 21, 1911 in Austin, Texas a daughter of John Henry and Maggie King Edwards. She married
James Murray Sanders on October 20, 1933 in Blossom. She and her husband owned and operated the cotton gin in Blossom until moving to Tel, Texas where they operated the gin there until 1973. They retired after 30 years of operating cotton gins and moved back to Paris. She was an avid bridge player and fisherman, and after retiring they loved to travel making trips to Yellowstone National Park and down to the Valley. She was a member of the Lamar Avenue Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Murray Sanders and a son Craig Edwards Sanders.
Survivors include a Granddaughter, Denette Walker and husband Paul of Sylvan; three Great-Grandsons, Seth Walker and wife Mallory, Jordon Walker and Bryce Walker and a nephew David Merritt and wife Gayle of Blossom.
Evelyn Marie Fusilier

Evelyn Marie Fusilier, 88, of the Georgia Community passed away December 29, 2008 at her residence. She was born on January 20, 1920 in Maryville, LA. a daughter of Samual Adam and Minnie Ola Helms Folsom. She was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God. She was preceded in death by her spouse Gordon Fusilier whom she married
in Port Arthur, a brother Clevland Folsom, and sisters Vera Goats and Era Cummings.
Survivors include her daughter Earline Frazar and husband Robert H.; grandchildren Mark Frazar and Laura Hyman; great grandchildren Cody Lee Ray, Calib Lane Rains and Harvey Shelton Hyman.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday January 1, 2009 in the Georgia cemetery with Rev. J.M. Beshirs officiating. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the cemetery.
Stephen C. Salter

Stephen “Steve” Salter, 60, passed away at his Paris residence on 29 December 2008. Janet, his sister, remained by his side until demise. Steve was the beloved son of Cleo and Jo Nell (Short) Salter. He was the second oldest of four children. Steve was the brother of Larry and is survived by his brother Gaylon and sister Janet (Salter) Brown and husband Britt. Also surviving are a nephew Colbi Brown and nieces Alexis Griffin and Lori Luza.
Steve was born and raised in Pattonville, TX. He was educated at East Lamar and graduated in 1966. In 1967, Steve was called to duty and served in the Army as an artilleryman for two years. Sergeant “Steve” Salter faithfully met roll call, proudly served our country and honored us with his superb service during the most tumultuous year of the Viet Nam War (1968). Afterwards, Steve left the Army and returned to Paris. He never complained of his sacrifice, not once. Steve primarily spent the rest of his working years among friends in construction.
Above all, Steve treasured family and friends…he is a loss to us all and will be painfully missed.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday January 2, 2009 in the Meadowbrook Gardens with Lynn Hood officiating. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army Funeral Detail. Family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Thursday.

Shirley Flippen, 70 of Paris, passed away Monday, December 29, 2008 at Paris Regional Medical Center.
Graveside Rites have been set for Friday, January 2, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Mt. Tabor cemetery. No visitation has been scheduled. Her body will lie in state at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. before the service.
She is survived by her sons; David Flippen and Elizabeth Capobianco, Charlie Flippen and wife Shelly, grandchildren; David Michael Flippen and Tyler Wade Flippen, step-grandchildren; Jamie Miller, Michelle Miller, Laura Miller, siblings; Barbara Patterson, Linda Lay, Dwane Baxter, half-brother; Kenneth Baxter, aunt; Irene Norrell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Charlie Turner Baxter and Tiny Ruth Norrell Baxter.
J. B. Lowry

J. B. Lowry, 81, of Paris died December 26, 2008 in his home surrounded by his family. The son of Clovis Lowry and Inis Campbell Lowry, J. B. was born in Mt. Vernon, Texas on October 15, 1927. After growing up in Mt. Vernon, he joined the U. S. Navy. While stationed in California, he met and married
Cletta Bates on November 1, 1947. They were married
for 61 years and raised four children. J. B. moved to Paris in 1970 where he owned and operated Lowry Chevrolet for 38 years.
J. B. was an active member in the community during his life, serving in the Paris Noon Lions Club, earning an award as Lion of the Year 2006-2007 and also recipient of the Paul Harris Award, an involved participant in Lamar County Crime Stoppers, receiving a Lifetime Membership award in 2002, as well as being the past Master of Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge #691 and the current Worthy Patron of Paris Chapter 5 Order of the Easter Star. He was also named 1995 Citizen of the Year by the Paris Police Department and selected for the Boys and Girls Club of Red River Valley Wall of Honor in 2005. J. B. also enjoyed his membership at Central Presbyterian Church.
J. B. was very proud of his large family and always joked that he could win an election if all of his kids were old enough to vote. preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his wife, Cletta; four children, Tina Anderson and husband Mike, Tim Lowry and wife De, Mark Lowry, and Gina Lowry and husband Chris Morphis, all of Paris, eight grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Grandchildren include Christi George and husband Aaron of Missouri City, Texas, Jason Burress of McKinney, Elizabeth Carter and husband Jay of Tyler, Amanda Wilhite of Huntsville, Stephanie Kirk and husband Kendal, Catherine Peralta and husband Jose, John Lowry and wife Adrianne, and Letta Hines, all of Paris. Great grandchildren are Henry and Tina Catherine George, Korbin and Tisa Peralta, Andy and Jack Kirk, Grant, Grace, and Garrett Lowry, and Kate and Klaire Hines.
Pallbearers are Aaron George, Jason Burress, Kendall Kirk, Jose Peralta, John Lowry, and Jay Carter. Honorary pallbearers include Mike Jordan, Dale Jordan, Carolyn Teague, Marilyn Joyce, and members of the Paris Noon Lions Club. If desired, memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Red River Valley or the American Cancer Society.
Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home will conduct funeral services 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2008 at Central Presbyterian Church with Rev. Marcia Miscall officiating and burial will follow at Mt. Vernon City cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Texas with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon 6 until 7 p.m.

DELBERT RAY PENNINGTON 61, of Roxton, died at 8:30 PM, Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Paris Regional Medical Center. A graveside service with military rites will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Restland cemetery in Roxton with Bro. Russell Mills officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Pennington was born May 22, 1947 in Spiro, Oklahoma to Robert and Anna Mae Young Pennington. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Delbert married
Janice Marie Dillard on January 28, 1966 in Hugo, Oklahoma. He was a truck driver and member of Calvary Baptist Church in Cooper.
Mr. Pennington is survived by his wife, Jan Pennington of Roxton; 4 children, Angie Lollar and husband, Mark of Roxton, Pam Nichols and husband, Robert of Blossom, Timmy Pennington of Paris, and Kimberly Moore and fiancé, Freddie Corley of Melissa, Texas; 6 grandchildren, Andrew Lollar and wife, Brittany of Paris, Jennifer Lollar and fiancé, John Davis of Paris, Reagan and Logan Moore of Melissa, Annalise Pennington and Jacob Sisson, both of Blossom; 3 brothers, Bobby Pennington of Arkansas and Levi Pennington and Buddy Willhite, both of Oklahoma; and 3 sisters, Judy Attiway and Sharon Pennington, both of Oklahoma, and Lois Moody of Powderly. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Kevin Cole Amos, 9 days old, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2009 at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.
He was born on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at Parkland Hospital to Clifford Amos and Kimberly Mounce.
Graveside services have been set for Friday, February 27, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Tuggle Springs cemetery. The family will receive friends at Fry-Gibbs Funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-7 P.M.
He is survived by his parents, brother; David and numerous other family members.
Billy Joe Patterson

Billy Joe Patterson, 76, of Brookston passed away at his home Wednesday February 18, 2009. Funeral services are set for 10:30 AM Friday Feb. 20, 2009 at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Edgar Clements and Rev. Ted White officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6:30 until 8:00 PM.
He was born July 23, 1932 in the Hinkley community in Lamar County to Sherman Alva “Pat” and Opal Oakleaf Patterson. He was a graduate of West Lamar High School and served aboard the carrier USS Sipan during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox in 1988 after 33 years and then was employed by Tractor Supply and Whitaker Pawn. He was an ordained Baptist minister and pastored churches in Fannin and Delta Counties. He was a member of Brookston Baptist Church.
He married
Barbara Carpenter on November 24, 1955 in Paris.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wilbert Lee Patterson.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara and two sons, Edwin Joe Patterson of Brookston and James Bartley Patterson and wife Susan of Sulphur Springs; grandsons Shelton and Joseph Patterson of Brookston; granddaughters Lesli Donaldson and Drew Patterson of Dallas, Kaitlyn Patterson of Bonham, Jacy Patterson of Caviness and a great grandson, Tony Donaldson; brothers L.P. “Pete” Patterson and wife Doris of Brookston, Weldon Patterson and wife Ellen of Temple, Ted White and wife, Carol of Longview; sisters Faye Harris and husband Glen of Gruver, Ann Brockway and husband James of Paris and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Roslyn Davis Sample

Roslyn Davis Sample, 81, passed away February 18, 2009 in Dallas. She was surrounded by her family as God welcomed her to Heaven. Funeral services will be conducted by Mark Hutchison, Bill Dickey and Billie Viehe at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Powderly United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Long cemetery under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.
She was born Nov. 11, 1927 to Lloyd and Evelyn Coursey Davis and married
Tom Sample on March 9, 1945. They shared almost sixty-four years together.
Roslyn retired from the Paris Public Library after 11 years of employment.
Roslyn was very active in many civic organizations including the American Red Cross, the Girl Scouts, the Maxey House, Family Haven, Children’s Trust Fund of Texas, C’est La Vie, RSVP, Moving Up Club, and the Community Health Council for Christus-St. Joseph Hospital. She served on numerous boards including RSVP, North East Texas Council for Alcohol and Drug Abuse, and Paris Junior College Alumni Board.
She has been a tireless worker and supporter of Paris Junior College for many years. She first began her association with Paris Junior College while working as an Adult Education Outreach Counselor from 1980-1982. She began her work as a volunteer with the PJC Alumni and Friends Association in 1993, working on many committees and projects. She has chaired the luncheon series to raise scholarship endowments for the college. Roslyn was elected to the board of directors and served as president of the board for three terms from 1996-1999. She spent two years as an ex-officio member of the board. Roslyn was named as a Distinguished Friend of Paris Junior College in 2002 and continued her service to PJC throughout the remainder of her life.
Roslyn was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Davis, her mother and stepfather, Evelyn and Bob Robertson, a half sister, Janette Robertson and two half brothers, Bruce Robertson and Gordon Prichard.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Sample; one daughter, Linda Sample Bratcher and son-in-law, Richard; one grandchild, Sarah Upchurch; three great grandchildren, Sara Beth Upchurch, Cody Upchurch and wife Mallory, and Charli Gabeline and husband, Chad. She is also survived by two great-great grandchildren, Gavin Upchurch and Kylar Gabeline. She will be missed by her sister, Billie Viehe and husband, Mike, as well as her nephew, Mike Viehe, Jr. and wife Brigitte, and their two daughters, Brittany and Blair. She will also be greatly missed by her special friend, Annie.
Pallbearers will be Mike Viehe, Sr., Mike Viehe, Jr., Larry Bratcher, John Bratcher, Matt Bratcher, and Cody Upchurch.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Paris Junior College Scholarship Endowment or the Lamar County Humane Society.
