Taylor William Ladd
BOGATA — Taylor William Ladd, 93, of Cunningham, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2004,
Services have been scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 22 at the chapel of Wood Funeral Homes with the Rev. Jerry Smith and Bro. Richard Tatum officiating. Burial will be in Restland cemetery of Cunningham under the direction of Wood Funeral Homes.
The family will receive friends at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
He was born Aug. 12, 1910, in Enloe, the son of John Will and Molly Rees Ladd. He married
Opal Effie Lou Jean on Nov. 17, 1934. He was a well-known horse trader throughout Lamar and Red River counties and the surrounding area and also cut and sold bois d’arc posts for fencing.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one infant daughter, Syble June Ladd; a brother, Joe B. Ladd and three sisters, Pauline O’Neal, Edna Jackson and Boma Ladd.
Survivors include his five children, Melba Baker of Cunningham, Shelby Kennedy and husband, Bobby, of Cunningham, Shirley Ladd of Powderly, T.L. Ladd and wife, Carol, of Clardy and Steve Ladd and wife, Carolyn, of Pattonville; his 14 grandchildren, Anthony and John Syrus, Quentin and Jason Baker, Jeff and Heath Kennedy, Brad Gentry, Tuttle Whitley, Darrin Ladd, Brittney Ladd, Swede Ladd, Briggette Ladd, Craig Ladd and Shelley Landers; 17 great-grandchildren; one niece, Faye Randall and husband, Bobby, of Colleyville; and one nephew, John Harlen Ladd and wife, Jean, also of Colleyville.
Serving as pallbearers will be James Norwood, Bill Page, Charlie Baker, Thomas “Catfish” King, R.L. “Hoopie” Randolph and Larry Smith.
Honorary pallbearers are Charlie Lewis, Fern Rees, Rab Skidmore, Donnie Bazhaw, Jerrod Bankhead, Marion Mitchell and Frankie Norwood.
John Ardinger “Jock” Scarborough III
DALLAS — John Ardinger “Jock” Scarborough III, 57, of Dallas, formerly of Paris, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Irving.
Memorial services were held Saturday, June 19, at Restland Wildwood Chapel in Dallas.
Private interment services will be held at Holy Cross Episcopal Church Columbarium, under the direction of Gene Roden’s Sons Funeral Home.
He was born Nov. 2, 1948, in Paris. He graduated from the University of Texas and served with the Texas National Guard. Prior to retirement, he owned and operated a restaurant in Dallas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and June Scarborough.
He is survived by his sister, Dorcas Brownfield and husband, Jack; his brother, Clayton Scarborough and wife, Bonnie; and nephews, John Clayton Scarborough and Matthew Clayton Buchanan.

Irene Daubs Slaton
Irene Daubs Slaton, 87, widow of the Rev. O.U. Slaton, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Titus County Regional Medical Center in Mount Pleasant at which time Bright-Holland Funeral Home received her into their care.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, June 21, at East Paris Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Fortenberry and the Rev. Steve Packer officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery.
She was born July 16, 1916, in Mount Erie, Ill., the daughter of John and Phoebe Totten Daubs. She married
the Rev. O.U. Slaton on May 7, 1942, in Missouri. He preceded her in death on Jan 14, 2002. She and her husband served the Lord faithfully at several churches in Lamar County.
She was preceded in death by a sister, LaVerne VanMatre; and two brothers, Frank and Leslie Daubs.
Survivors include three brothers, John Daubs of Carmi, Ill., Neal Daubs of Florida and Dayle Daubs of Mount Erie; along with several nieces and nephews.
Casket bearers will be Jerry Thrasher, Ronnie Thrasher, Henry Tapley, Pete Sisson, David Hoover and Charles Nichols.
Judy Chessher Graves
DALLAS — Judy Chessher Graves, 74, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Dallas.
A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, in Seegers Chapel, First United Methodist Church of Richardson. A service celebrating her life will follow at 11 a.m.
She was born July 17, 1929, in Cooper, the only child of Redmond and Mayo Chessher. She was a 1946 graduate of Cooper High School. She married
Paul McCoy Graves on June 11, 1960.
She worked as a secretary for 30 years, 20 with Sun Oil/Oryx Energy. She and her husband raised their family in Richardson and Plano, later retiring to Paris. Health issues resulted in a return to Dallas. She was active in many professional, social and civic groups.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Greg and Tina Graves and Scott and Nahoko Graves.

Carl Edward Bean
CLARKSVILLE — Carl Edward Bean, 89, of Clarksville died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Paris Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 18, at First Baptist Church in Clarksville with the Rev. Mark Gossett officiating. Interment followed in Aikin Grove cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home.
He was born in the Batesville community of Red River County on March 12, 1915, to O.O. and Daisy Smith Bean. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was the owner of Carl Bean Motors in Clarksville from 1954 to 2002. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel DeLoyce Bean; and sisters, Ruth Humphrey and Virginia Bolton.
He is survived by sons, David Bean and Alan Bean of Clarksville and Gary Bean of Albuquerque, N.M.; one daughter, Marinell Smith of Dripping Springs; one sister, Verna Huneke of Lubbock; one brother, James Howard Bean of Lewisville; and four grandchildren.
Robert Earl Moree
Robert Earl Moree, 64, of Paris died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Dubuis Hospital at which time Bright-Holland received him into their care.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, June 21, at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville with the Rev. Cody Moree officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He was born May 30, 1940, the son of James Morgan and Bertha Mae Trim Moree, in Lamar County. He served in the U.S. Army, retired from Safeway after working 22 years and then worked 10 years in maintenance for Paris Nursing Home.
He was preceded in death by his father; two children, James Earl Moree and Lisa Gay Moree; and a brother, Donald Moree.
Survivors include his mother, Bertha Mae Moree of Paris; three children, Kevin Moree of Winnsboro, Kisha Smith and husband, Keith, of Winnsboro and Kara Walters and husband, Brandon, of Llano; six grandchildren, Nicholas Smith, Lance Smith, Zachary Moree, Zoie Moree, Blake Walters and Joshua Walters; two brothers, Larry Moree and wife, Wanda, of Powderly and Bobby Moree of Paris; and one sister, Barbara Kenney of Paris.
Casket bearers are Nicholas Smith, Lance Smith, Blake Walters, Tim Moree, Scott Moree and Don Moree.

Clyde E. Bankhead
Clyde E. Bankhead, 61, of Cunningham passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2004, at Parkland Hospital in Dallas.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at Abundant Life Church in Minter with the Rev. Tony Corso officiating. Burial will follow in Restland cemetery in Cunningham. Bright-Holland Funeral home has charge of the arrangements.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
He was born Oct. 29, 1942, in Cunningham, to Clyde and Thelma Watson Bankhead. He graduated from Cunningham High School and served four years with the U.S. National Guard. He retired from Babcock & Wilcox after 30 years with the company and was a cattle rancher. He was a member of Abundant Life Church where he had been a board member. He served a number of years on the school board of the Prairiland Consolidated Independent School District.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Lloyd Marshall, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Gerrie, whom he married
on Sept. 3, 1965; two sons, Jerrod Bankhead and wife, Susan, of Cunningham and Chance Bankhead of the home; one daughter, Kristi Callihan and husband, Bryan, of Reno; three grandchildren, Kaden and Ashlyn Callihan of Reno and Gage Bankhead of Cunningham; two sisters, Melba Holbert and husband, Buddy, of Lubbock and Elaine Wheeler and husband, Roy, of California; a sister-in-law, Irma Marshall of Fort Worth; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Maureen Richardson of Paris, a brother-in-law, Ron Richardson and wife, Linda, of Mesquite; along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Casket bearers will be Gene Cavender, Billy Ray Oats, Burl Dean Watson, Harold Dean Watson, James Norwood, Pete McKnight, Frankie Norwood and Johnie Musgrove.
