Jack L. Lynch
Jack L. Lynch, 89, of Paris died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at Paris Regional Medical Center at which time Bright-Holland Funeral Home received him into their care.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, at the funeral home chapel with Dr. Justin Tull officiating. Graveside services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at Ketchum cemetery in Ketchum, Okla.
The family receives friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
He was born Nov. 3, 1914, in Ketchum. He was one-fourth Delaware (Lenni-Lenape) Indian and proud of it. He was a graduate of Oklahoma A&M College (OSU) in 1939, with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, majoring in animal husbandry. After graduation from college, he went to work for the Five Civilized Tribes, Muskogee, Okla., as assistant farm agent in extension-credit.
He married
Mary Axtell Patrick Ward on Jan. 13, 1940. Her first husband, Barley Ward, was killed in an oil field accident in West Texas before the youngest of their daughters, Carol, was born. He and his wife had three children of their own including Jack Michael, deceased, David Harrison, deceased, and Peggy Sue, an RN living in Richardson. He considered the two step-daughters as his own. They include Dana Cleo Raines and husband, Mel, of Fort Benton, Mont., and Carol Faith Moore and husband, Don, of Arlington.
He retired from the federal government in 1971, after 31 years of service in various departments including Bureau of Indian Affairs, Soil Conservation Service, Farmers Home Administration, and Tulsa District Army Corps of Engineers. He spent 14 years with the Corps of Engineers as a staff appraiser and before retiring in 1972, appraised various types of property including a special assignment for six weeks in Puerto Rico in 1967, and two weeks in 1969. During 61 years of marriage, the family lived in at least 20 towns and in seven states including two Indian Reservations, the Standing Rock Sioux in Fort Yates M.D., and Winnebago Reservation, Winnebago Neb., before his wife’s death in 2001. Since 1972 and until 1996, he worked as an independent appraiser out of his home in Paris. He worked on contract for National Park Service from 1972 to 1980, on Buffalo National River in northwest Arkansas. Appraisals were made for several government agencies and individuals including General Service Administration, and the Choctaw Nation, and he did appraisals for the Veterans Administration in Southeast Oklahoma and Northeast Texas. He completed about 24 years for the Veteran’s Administration, Waco Office.
Survivors include his wife, Anna, whom he married
in 2002; daughters, Peggy Sue Tucker, Dana Cleo Raines, and Carol Faith Moore; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Delbert J. Johnson
COOPER — Delbert J. Johnson, 82, of Cooper passed away Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at Paris Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at Delta Funeral Home with Johnny Witherspoon officiating. Interment follows in Oaklawn cemetery.
The family receives friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was born Nov. 25, 1921, in Delta County. He was the son of John H. Johnson and Nancy Wheatley Johnson. He was a retired truck driver for Automatic Gas and Dutch’s Gas Service, veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, a member of First Baptist Church in Cooper since 1951 and for 35 years a volunteer fireman with the Cooper Volunteer Fire Department. He married
Dora Hocutt on Dec. 18, 1952.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Sam and Ira Johnson; and three sisters, Edna, Virgie and Elsie Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Dora Johnson of Cooper; a son, David Robert Johnson of Cooper; and two grandchildren, Raydean Johnson and Amber Sheyenne Johnson.
Jack Barnett
Jack Barnett, 94, of Paris died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at his home.
Memorial services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall Scott officiating.
The family receives friends following the service in the church foyer. Arrangements are under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.
He was born Nov. 30. 1909, at Walnut Ridge in Lamar County to N.V. and Cassandra Blaylock Barnett. He married
Inez Gibson on Aug. 10, 1932, in Grant, Okla. They were married
for 72 years. He was a faithful, long-time member and deacon-emeritus of Immanuel Baptist Church. He taught intermediate boy’s Sunday school for many years and was a positive role model and influence on numerous young men. He gladly served in other capacities wherever he was needed. His family will remember him for his wry sense of humor, his steadfast love for each of them, and his wonderful Christian example for them and all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by four brothers; three sisters; and a son-in-law, William St. John.
He is survived by his wife, Inez; four daughters, Melba Claymon and husband, John, of Austin, Sue Anderson and husband, Bill, of Deport, Ellen Whitaker and husband, Mel, of Paris and Joan St. John of Maxey; grandchildren, Lynn and Jamey Benningfield and their daughter, Sarah, of Plano, Jeff St. John of The Colony, Lance and Diane Bailey and their daughter, Miranda of Lamar Point, Janeese and Keith Bene and their children, Alex and Luke, of Allen, Holly Anderson and daughter, Abigail, of McKinney, Jennifer Claymon of Austin, and Lauren and David Burden of San Antonio; a brother, L.V. Barnett and wife, Jean, of Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters, Selma Shipp and Helen Madguno of California; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Marise Guillory Fontenot
LAKE CHARLES, La. — Marise Guillory Fontenot, 89, of Paris, formerly of Lake Charles, La., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at Paris Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Hixson Funeral Home, Lake Charles.
She was born May 3, 1915, in Eunice, La., the daughter of Emilie Dalecourt and Mary Elizabeth Guillory. She married
Hamilton Fontenot in 1934 and was married
to him until his demise in 1985.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers; and three sisters.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Fontenot Young and Roxan Fontenot DeRosier; two grandchildren, Darren McLaren and Melicia McLaren Merritt; and a great-grandson, Jake Merritt, all of Paris; a brother, Eugene Guillory, of Vinton, La.; a sister, Ezola Garrett, of Lake Charles; along with several nieces and nephews.

Lola Lee Gillean
COOPER — Lola Lee Gillean, 83, of Paris passed from this earth to her heavenly home on Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Parkview Convalescent Care Center.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Delta Funeral Home Chapel with Gary Regan officiating. Burial follows in Campshed cemetery at Mount Joy.

She was born July 3, 1921, in Van Zandt County to Novie Celine “Herron” and Albert Hobbs. She was married
on Oct. 23, 1937, to Joseph Carl “Jinks” Gillean. There were four children born to this marriage. She spent her life serving her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a very kind and loving mother, grannie and auntie and will be greatly missed by all her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on Nov. 16, 1989; a daughter, Patsy Loretta Douglas, on Aug. 9, 1989; a son died in infancy; a step-father, Ambers Sikes; brothers, Ernie and Alton Hobbs, and Raydell Sikes; and sisters, Lois Hobbs Gillean and Joyce Sikes Scott.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Clarence Dean and Deloris Gillean of Enloe and Joseph Albert and Patsy Gillean of Mount Joy; grandchildren, Jim Gillean of Mesquite, Carla Manners of Frisco, Beverly and Kyle Bousquet of Greenville, and Jodie and Jason Robinson of Bonham; great-grandchildren, Jarod and Joseph Manners, Michael and Jessica Bousquet, and Austin and Ty Robinson; a brother-in-law, Marley Gillean of Plano; and sisters-in-law, Estine Gillean of Paris, Jean Hobbs of Hutto, and Fannie Sikes of Kingston, Okla.; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Billie Dean Fleming
BOGATA — Billie Dean Fleming, 74, formerly of Red River County died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, in Pinecrest Nursing Home in Tyler.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in Bogata Church of Christ with Benny Cogburn officiating. Burial follows in Bogata cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
The family receives friends one hour prior to services at the church.
She was born Aug. 24, 1930, in Red River County near Johntown, the daughter of Alton and Deecee Henton Scarborough. She married
Ted Fleming on Nov. 19, 1949, in Odessa. She was a retired accountant with Miether Berring Co. of Odessa.
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 18, 2004.
She is survived by two sons, Steve Fleming and wife, Donna, of Tyler and Larry Fleming and wife, Vickie, of Kyle; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Bessie M. Strickland
CLARKSVILLE — Bessie M. Strickland, 90, of Clarksville died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at Regency Nursing Center.
Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, in Madras cemetery with the Rev. Ed Dodson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.

She was born Oct. 28, 1913, in Red River County, the daughter of Raymond and Emmie Allen Whiteman. She was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at East Texas Medical Center, and a former reporter for The Paris News and Texarkana Gazette. She was past president and treasurer of Madras cemetery Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband James A. Strickland Sr.; and her son, James A. Strickland Jr.
She is survived by her son, Wayne Dickson Strickland and wife, Marianne, of Houston; a daughter, Frances A. Axline and husband, Pete, of Vancover Wash.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Vera Jo Reece
HONEY GROVE — Vera Jo Reece, 76, of Honey Grove died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004.
Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Bobby Holt officiating, assisted by the Rev. Glynn Tyson. Interment follows in McCraws Chapel cemetery under the direction of Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home.

She was born Sept. 29, 1928, the daughter of Guy Chaney and Vera Edwards Chaney. She married
Sam Hinton Reece on June 27, 1959. She was a teacher and a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Honey Grove and she also taught Sunday school there for many years.
She is survived by her husband of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Shelia Reece of Honey Grove; two granddaughters, Samantha and Macey Reece, also of Honey Grove; one sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Milton Conine of Glen Rose; and several nephews.
Pallbearers are Jeff Clark, Bryan Clark, Teddy Ellis, Kyle Milford, Marshall Joyce, Mike Bowen and Lock Seal.
Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Joyce, Bill Thurman, Bob Milford and Kenneth Billings.
