Beatrice McPherson

CLARKSVILLE — Beatrice McPherson, 89, of Clarksville died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004.

Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Hope Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. James Johnson officiating. Interment follows in English cemetery under the direction of Brownrigg Funeral Home.

The family receives friends Friday, at the funeral home.

Wynona Harper Harrison

Wynona Harper Harrison, longtime member of the Paris community and beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at Paris Regional Medical Center.

A service in celebration of her life is set for 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home with the Rev. James Price officiating.

Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas on Friday, Dec. 10.

She was born in Wills Point on Aug. 28, 1917, into a family of carpenters and builders. She dreamed big dreams. She graduated with honors from Wills Point High School in 1934 and went on to business college in Dallas. She trained as a cosmetologist and, at age 18, built a successful beauty shop called Wynona’s in Wills Point. She left to become part of the Neiman Marcus family in 1939. She married Woody Harper on Feb. 13, 1944, and together they built Harper Aircraft Supply and Texas Aviation Materials at Love Field in Dallas. The family was active at Park Cities Baptist Church. She was a member of the Willowcrest Garden Club, the Reviewers’ Book Club, the Dinner Dance Club, and the Brookhaven Country Club. After Mr. Harper’s death, she launched First Lady Service and planned events for Dallas corporations. She married J. W. Harrison on her birthday in 1966 and moved to Paris where they created a Christian home for themselves and five teenagers. She actively supported Harrison, Walker & Harper and its 117 year heritage. She also purchased and operated Pine Mill Nursery. Her community interests in Paris included Paris Golf and Country Club, King’s Daughters, Fun and Flowers Garden Club, and Newcomers Club. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Paris where she and her husband started the bus ministry.

She celebrated her 80th birthday at her beloved Neiman Marcus. Stanley Marcus sent her his book, “Minding the Store, ” inscribed “To Wynona, from one associate to another. Happy Birthday, Stanley.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Inez Boston McKnight and Benjamin Riley McKnight; the fathers of her children, Woodrow Wilson Harper and John Winn Harrison II; and by her son, Ben McKnight Harper.

She is survived by her loving family, Chip and Suzy Harper of Paris and their children, Holland and Kelly Harper and Preston, Jordan and Lindsey Harper and Ella Ryan, Anne and Will Biard of Paris, and Alix Harper of Dallas; Sally and Mac McCoy and Sari Susan McCoy of Dallas; Barbara and Don Wilson and their children, Greg and Jenny Wilson and Shelby, Garrett, and Christian of Paris, and Grant and Laura Wilson and Julia of McKinney; David and Kathy Harrison and Chase of Baltimore, Md; and John Winn Harrison III of Dayton, Ohio.

Pallbearers are Holland Harper, Jordan Harper, Will Biard, Greg Wilson and Grant Wilson.

She had a special love for children, and if desired, the family requests that all memorials be made in her name to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Paris, 711 Pine Bluff St. Paris, Texas 75460.

Margaret Maxine Couts

Margaret Maxine Couts, 72, of Paris died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, in Paris Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, at Saint Paul Baptist Church with the Rev. Connice Mayes officiating. Interment follows in Rockyford cemetery under the direction of Maxey Funeral Home.

Etta Louise Dozier

BOGATA — Etta Louise Dozier, 85, of Bogata died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, in East Texas Medical Center in Clarksville.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, in Bogata Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Daniels officiating. Burial follows in Bogata cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.

She was born Nov. 15, 1919, in Cuthand, the daughter of Troy and Lela Mankins Eudy. She married Russell Eugene Dozier on Nov. 27, 1945. He preceded her in death Sept. 30, 2001. She was a retired department manager of Hamilton Avanet Company of Dallas.

She is survived by three children, Mary Lou Howsley of Bogata, Garry Dozier and wife, Nell, of Arlington and Douglas Hubbard and wife, Jackie, of Van Alstyne; six grandchildren, David Dozier and wife, Leann, and Michelle Dozier, all of Arlington, Jennifer Huber and husband, Matt, of Anna, Cathy Williams and husband, Chris, of Pittsburgh, and Daryl Howsley, Beth Gardner and husband, Brian, all of Houston; six great-grandchildren, Nikki, Troy, Ashley, Mikel, Morgan and Mia and one great-great-granddaughter, Abagail McGee and two sisters, Irene Lawson of Bogata and Lillian “Ted” White of Paris.

Willis “Chili” Morris

Willis “Chili” Morris, 88, of Paris passed away Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at Paris Health Center.

Services are set for 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Hospitality Church of God in Christ with the Rev. Ronnie Williams officiating. He will be laid to rest at Fairland cemetery under the direction of Peaceful Rest Funeral Home of Dallas.

He was born Feb. 9, 1915, in Lamar County to the late Rev. Jack Morris and Rena Morris of Paris. He was a lifetime resident of Lamar County. He attended rural schools in Lamar County and was a local mechanic for more than 30 years in the Paris area.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Edmond Morris of Paris, and one sister, Mary Alexander of Paris.

He is survived by a daughter, Ida Mae Jackson of Wichita Falls; a son, Jimmy Morris of Paris, and several grand children, great-grand children and other relatives and friends.

Judge James R. Hubbard

TEXARKANA — Judge James R. Hubbard, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at his residence.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Bowie County Courthouse at New Boston with family friend and Appeals Court Justice Jack Carter officiating. Joy Spencer Smith of Fort Worth us to deliver the eulogy. Interment follows in the Hubbard section of Read Hill cemetery under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home.

He was born at Texarkana into a pioneer mercantile and banking family and attended Texarkana schools. He was a graduate of Texas Senior High School and Texarkana Community College. He was honored in 1997 as the Texarkana Community College Distinguished Alumnus and endowed a decorative landscape fountain to the campus in honor of students who participated in World War II, both survivors as well as those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Upon graduation from Texas Senior High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was deployed to the Pacific Ocean theater of operations where he served aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Richmond as radioman third class from 1942 until the cessation of hostilities in 1945.

Following discharge from the armed forces, he resumed his education at Texarkana Community College and in Waco, graduating with a doctorate of jurisprudence degree from Baylor University School of Law in the top two percent of his class of 1950. He was recognized as a noted trial and railroad attorney, practicing in both state and federal courts for over 40 years. He was elected as a fellow to the highly selective International Academy of Trial Lawyers and International Society of Barristers. He was also a life fellow in the Texas Bar Foundation and member of the Federation of Insurance Councils, American Legion Post, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was appointed to the district judicial bench by Gov. Allan Shivers as 102nd Judicial Judge, thus becoming the youngest judge in the state of Texas to that date. He fulfilled his civic duty in the 1950s by serving as an active Texarkana City Councilman. Further, in the 1960s he served as Chairman of the Bowie County Democratic Party.

He chose to quit the judiciary and make a return to private practice. This decision led to the creation of a multi-partner endeavor that ultimately became the greatly respected law firm of Hubbard, Patton, Peek, Haltom and Roberts which remained active after his retirement in 1993.

He was a cradle Presbyterian who served as a deacon in the Pine Street Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Texarkana and Northridge Country Clubs.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Mr. and Mrs. Augustus Griffin Hubbard of Texarkana and New Boston; his sister, Helen Hubbard Herron of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Texarkana.

He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. William W. Miller of Tyler; his son, James Griffin Hubbard of Longview and New Boston; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Paul Lawrence Gray

Paul Lawrence Gray, 72, of Paris died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at Dubuis Hospital.

Funeral services are set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Maxey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Savage officiating. Interment follows in Heritage Crematory under the direction of Maxey Funeral Home.

The family receives friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Roy Dean Graves

Roy Dean Graves, 59, of Paris died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at Paris Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. Burial is set for a later date in the Cole cemetery in Waldo, Kansas.

He was born Aug. 1, 1945, in Hutchison, Kan. to Orie L. and Lois M. Eller Graves. He graduated from Great Bend, Kan., schools and East Central State University in Ada, Okla. and worked as a rehabilitation counselor. He married Linda K. Bear on June 5, 1966, in Waldo. He was a Cub Scout leader and a member of the NETCADA board.

He is survived by his wife, Linda of Paris; three children, Terry Graves of Wynnewood, Okla., Janette Cornett of Paris and Shawna Graves of Ada, Okla.; six grandchildren, Sara, Kyle, Kristen and Justice Graves of Wanette, Okla. and Derek and Devan Cornett of Paris; a brother, Bill Graves of Ellsworth, Kan.; and two sisters, Linda Graves of San Antonio and Mary Jackson of Great Bend.

If desired, memorials may be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.

Nola Jean Littles

BOGATA — Nola Jean Littles, 73, of Tyler and formerly of Bogata died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in Windsor Briarcliff Health Center in Tyler.

Following cremation a private interment will be held at Bogata cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.

She was born Feb. 11, 1931, in Ada Okla., the daughter of George W. and Claudia Head Robbins. She worked as a nurse for many years at Titus Regional Medical Center in Mount Pleasant, until health problems caused her to retire. She married Roy Littles Oct. 9, 1955, in Bogata. He preceded her in death March 19, 1990.

She is survived by one daughter, Debbie Getro and husband, Ed; a granddaughter, Haley Jordan Getro, all of Tyler; one brother, J.M. Robbins of Oakridge, Tenn. and five nieces and nephews.
