She was born Jan. 10, 1924, in Cross Plains, to Jame Quincy Helms and Cora Ettabaum. At six months old, her mother passed away, leaving her in the loving care of her father and brother and sister-in-law, Louis R. and Theresa Helms. She grew up in Cross Plains and graduated from Cross Plains High School. She married
Odis Dale Newsom on Nov. 8, 1942, in Brownwood. She and Odis served their country in the Armed Services during World War II. She enlisted in the Women's Army Air Corp. while Odis was already serving overseas with the U.S. Army. After the war, they lived in Cross Plains, later settling in Odessa. Almost 23 years later, they moved to Dallas.
In 1982, they retired and moved to Paris. She treasured life and lived it to its fullest as she served her Lord, husband, family, friends and community. She was a devoted wife and mother. She loved being at home cooking, decorating, working in the yard and garden or building children's furniture with Odis, solving crossword puzzles, playing games and reading novels.
"Neenie" adored her grandchildren as they did her, and she always had time for them. They loved Christmas as "Neenie's" the tradition being a talent show on Christmas Eve night, all in costume, singing, dancing, acting silly, just enjoying life with "Neenie".
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Q. and Cora Helms; brother, Louis R. Helms; sister-in-law, Theresa Helms.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Odis Dale Newsom, who so faithfully and lovingly stood by her side during a long and heartbreaking illness; daughters, Linda Rodenberg and husband, Jim, of San Angelo, Debbie Ziegler and husband, Sidney, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; grandchildren, Michael Rodenberg and wife, Gloria, of Quincy Ill., Melissa McKinsey and husband, Daryl, of Goodyear, Ariz., Chris Ziegler of Murfeesboro, Tenn., Chad Ziegler of Tulsa, Okla., Emily Rodenberg of Fort Worth, Amanda Phillips and husband, Jason, of Elmirage, Ariz.; two nieces, Marjorie Grace of McAlester, Okla. and Sue Sewell of Austin; and many other nieces and nephews.

Our gratitude extends to her friends and neighbors, church family and to all we may not know who were so kind the her. We also thank Vistacare Hospice.
After a courageous battle with Alzehimer's disease, a battle she fought with strength and dignity, She leaves us with, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally there is laid for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
If desired, memorials may be made to Vistacare Hospice or the charity of choice.
