BOGATA — James Diggs, 77, of Talco died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005, at Paris Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, in Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hagansport with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Hagansport cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
The family receives friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
He was born Nov. 15, 1927, in Oklahoma, the son of Alonzo Floyd and Minnie Lee Sharp Diggs. He married
the former Susie Prater on Jan. 15, 1948. She died Dec. 23, 2004. He was a former lumber company supervisor and truck driver.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Lincoln Vale Diggs; and a granddaughter, Christie Morse.
He is survived by four daughters, Linda Cameron of Gilmer, Wanda Bowen and husband, Bob, of Cumby, Nancy Diggs of Mount Vernon and Teresa Tier and husband, Mark, of Titusville, Fla.; one son, Michale Diggs and wife, Bonnie, of Tuscon, Ariz.; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Connie 'Jelly' Choate
COOPER — Connie “Jelly” Choate, 87, of Cooper passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, in Bonham.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, in Delta Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Regan and the Rev. Debbie Riggsby officiating. Burial follows in Oaklawn cemetery. Military honors will be presented by Hopkins County Military Coalition.
The family receives friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
He was born June 21, 1918, in Delta County, the son of Julius Garfield Choate and Vera Mae Nivens Choate. On Nov. 4, 1946, he married
Billie Jo Sansing. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II and was a member of VFW Paris Post 3990. He was a lifelong resident of Delta County and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cooper. He was retired as parts manager for International Tractor of Cooper.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Caldwell Choate, Joe Choate, and Clyde Choate; and two sisters, Anna Lou Mosley and Daphne Russell.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Choate of Cooper; and a sister, June Stonaker of Sulphur Springs.

Esther Pauline Oakes
Esther Pauline Oakes, 91, of Paris passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005, at Heritage Care Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Randell Scott officiating. Burial follows in Evergreen cemetery under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.
The family receives friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 17, 1914, in Lake Creek, a daughter of Volivar Rush and Ellie L. Jones Young. She was a seamstress and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She married
Chester Oakes on March 11, 1930. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1998.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Micky Harold Oakes; 10 brothers and a sister.
Survivors include her children, Winfred “Sonny” Oakes and wife, Martha, of Joshua, Boyce “Bob” Oakes and wife, Millie, of Austin, Larry Oakes and wife, Patti, of San Antonio, Karon Floyd and husband, Gary, of Paris and Donna Sampler and husband, Larry, of Carrollton; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nelle Poteet of Biardstown.
Roscoe ‘R.C.’ Smallwood
Roscoe “R.C.” Smallwood, 88, formerly of Lamar County died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, in Riverbank, Calif.
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in Modesto, Calif., at McHenry Chapel - Franklin & Downs Funeral Home. Graveside services are set for 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Tabor cemetery under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.
He was a truck driver for 45 years and a retired member of the Teamster's Union.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Smallwood, of Riverbank; five children, Leon Smallwood of Empire, Calif., Allen Smallwood of Modesto, Vickie Winchester of Modesto and Chris Moss of Richmond, Va.; stepchildren, Arvin and Earl Fore of Riverbank, Lavada Harrell of Ceres, Calif., Helen Farley of Kansas and Ricky Fore of Ceres; 14 grandchildren; 18 stepgrandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 32 stepgreat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and eight stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Gladys Marie Shelby Crouch
Gladys Marie Shelby Crouch, 88, of Wills Point died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, in Fairfield.
Graveside services are scheduled at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 in Ladonia cemetery with Rev. Sam Bush officiating. Burial follows under the direction of Delta Funeral Home.
She was born Sept. 29, 1919, in Ladonia, the daughter of Hatley and Myrtle Call Shelby. She married
James Albert Crouch in 1946 and he preceded her in death Feb. 16, 1979. She was a retired nurse.
Survivors include two sons, Albert Crouch of Commerce and Sonny Crouch of Wills Point; a daughter, Gail Thornton of Streetman; five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A.W. ‘Hoot’ Winningham
HONEY GROVE — A. W. "Hoot" Winningham, 92, of Honey Grove died Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, in Northeast Medical Center of Bonham.
Graveside services are set for 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at Oakwood cemetery with the Rev. Carey Gable and Mark Newhouse officiating.
The family receives visitors from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Honey Grove.
He was born May 15, 1913, in the Selfs community, the son of Edgar Dee Winningham and Eval Leona Gilchrist Winningham. He was an oilfield production superintendent. He worked for WPA at Lake Crockett, and was also a farmer, rancher and truck driver. He retired from the West Texas oil fields in 1960 and returned to the homeplace in Selfs, where he worked on the Selfs Water System and served on its board of directors. He was a member of Houston Street Church of Christ in Vernon. He was chaplain of the Odd Fellows in Vernon, served on the board of directors of the Honey Grove Rodeo Club, and was a member of the Fannin County Sheriff's posse. The Winningham home was a stopping point for many members of the community who wanted to catch up on the local news and swap hunting and fishing stories with him and his wife. He married
Boonie Lee Gibson on Jan. 31, 1935, in the Selfs community, and she preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one infant son; five sisters; and four brothers.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Edgar Dan Winningham and wife, Sandra, of Bonham and A.W., Winningham Jr. and wife, Anna Belle, of the Selfs community; one sister, Olga Rollans of Mesquite; five grandchildren, Kenneth Winningham, Keith Winningham, Michael Winningham, Angela Flemming and Crystal Maxey; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
G.C. Elmore
G.C. Elmore, 58, of Alexandria, La., formerly of Paris, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, in Rapides General Hospital in Alexandria.
Funeral services are set for 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, in Gene Roden’s Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Sanders and the Rev. Tom Calk officiating. Burial follows in Meadowbrook Gardens under the direction of Gene Roden’s Sons Funeral Home. Josh Maxwell will provide music and song, and the deceased’s grand-daughter, Tiffany Semashko-Taylor, will assist with the funeral service.
He was born Nov. 28, 1946, in Greenville, the son of Sherfy A. Elmore and Gladys V. McBroom Elmore. He married
Janice Fussell on Jan. 26, 1980, in Arlington. He served his country in the National Guard for many years. He was a sales representative for food service companies, most recently he was a district sales manager for Merchants Food Service. He and his wife had moved to Alexandria just more than a year ago. He loved his work, sometimes being accused of being a workaholic. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He had a heart of gold and will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; grandson, Casey Blake Fendley-Taylor; and his mother-in-law, Juanita Fussell.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Elmore of Alexandria; two daughters, Deanna Nicholson of Paris and Jennifer Taylor and husband, James, of Heber Springs, Ark.; granddaughters, Jessica Nicholson of Paris and Tiffany Semashko-Taylor of Heber Springs; sister, Rebecca Elmore Brown of Denton; brother, Joe Elmore and wife, Yulonda, of Cash; father-in-law, Jesse Fussell of Paris; nephew, Greg Elmore and wife, Deanie; and a two grandnephews, Rance Elmore and Reed Elmore.
Pallbearers are Jim Taylor, Lance Nicholson, Greg Elmore, Clifton Cates, Richard Barron, George McVay, Rick McCurley, Terry Broun and Mike Quinett.

Jarred Michael ‘J.P’ Phillips
BRYAN — Jarred Michael “J.P.” Phillips, 22, passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, in Hearne.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at Franklin Church of Christ with Bro. Britt Farmer and Bro. Les Lierman officiating. Interment follows in Franklin City cemetery under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home.
The family receives friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
He was born in Bryan. He attended school in Bryan most of his life and was a graduate of Franklin High School. He was a student and did carpentry work. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and sports.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Morris Phillips; and grandparents, Otis and Lena Mae Gibson of Detroit.
Survivors include his parents, Elaine and Stephen Beasley of Franklin and Stephen Phillips and Patt Gandy of Bryan; a brother, Justin Beasley of Franklin; grandparents, Alma Lee Phillips of Tyler and Chris and Ed Beasley of Little Rock, Ark., and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
