Karla Ann Cope, 52, of Ennis passed away Monday November 24, 2008 in Ennis Regional Medical Center.
Karla was born on August 31, 1956 in Sherman a daughter of Ray & Violet Foster Taylor. On April 21, 1972 she married
Phil Cope and he preceded her in death on February 24, 2003 and by her mother Violet Foster.
Karla is survived by her children Jesse Cope of Paris and Shawna Cope of Ennis; 3 grandchildren whom she love spending time with Grayson Cope, Peyton Cope, and Aiden Severson; sisters Jody Rawls and Marty Raney and husband Melton; all the people that loved and cherished her and her family.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the Restland cemetery in Roxton with Vernon Babcock officiating. Pallbearers will be Casey Church, Justin Raney, Chad Mathis, Josh Church, Tim Morrison, and Donny Beard. Honorary pallbearers are Stanley Mathis, Terry Legate, and Bruce Raney. Family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. till 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.

Carolyn Bowden, 64 of Paris, passed away Monday, November 24, 2008 at Paris Regional Medical Center.
A private family visitation will be held under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.
She is survived by her children; Carla Sue Bowden Young, Carlos Wayne Bowden, Jr., Roy Emerson Attardi, Brenda Rena Weatherford, Brandi Denise Woodard, 13 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, sisters; Margaret Fair, Martha Armstrong, Carla Miller, Linda Morris, Sherry Morris, Terry Morris.
She was preceded in death by her parents; E.J. and Marian Ethridge Morris.
Victorene Fitch Young

Victorene Fitch Young, 95, of Paris passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008. Funeral services are scheduled for November 24, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Park Methodist Church with Rev. Stephen Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Meadowbrook Gardens cemetery under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Sunday Nov. 23 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born on December 28, 1912 in Pilot Point, Texas, the daughter of Victor B. and Carmen DeSpain Fitch. She married
George Thomas Young on July 19, 1931 and their children were Bettye Carmen Young Player and George Michael Young. They moved to Paris in 1947 and established Young’s News Agency. After G.T. Young’s death in 1962, Victorene and George continued to operate the business until they sold it in 1995.
In addition to loving her family and being a career woman, Victorene was an active club member and served as President of many of these organizations: Altrusa Club of Paris, Business & Professional Women’s Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Paris Golf and Country Club, Twilight Tillers Garden Club, Paris Noon Study Club, and Oak Park Methodist Women. She served as Director of District 12 of Business and Professional Women’s Club, who named her 1955 “Woman of the Year.” She also served on the Planning and Zoning Committee for Paris ity Council. For her civic contributions, she received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the Paris Rotary Club.
She loved to read, play bridge and work crossword puzzles, as well as play golf, which she played, albeit slowly, through age 92. She loved her church members at Oak Park Methodist Church.
Victorene is survived by her son George Young of Paris; her grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Mammas”: Michael Player and wife Rhonda of Kansas City; Tim Player and wife Shari of Terrell; Kristi Young of Paris; and Gary Young and wife Sydney of Paris: her great grandchildren, Tonya Player Kramer, JaNae Player, Michaela Player, Erin McDowell Jennings and husband Benjiman, Russell, Grant, Jack and Lucy McDowell; Zane and Zoie Young and Brenden James Player. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
Victorene was the oldest of five sisters who called her “Sissy.” Surviving sisters are Frances Quinn and Dorothy Brooks. She was predeceased by sisters Kathryn Goldthwaite and Helen Wheat, as well as by her husband G.T. Young; daughter Bettye Player and daughter-in-law Norma Young.
Pallbearers will be Jim Kirby, Bill Kirby, Jim Heavner, Tommy Haynes, Ronnie Brunson, Terry Legate, Robert Dyer and Doyle Whitaker. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Player, Ed Newman, and Bill Nash.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oak Park United Methodist Church or the Boys & Girls Club of Red River Valley Foundation.
Victorene’s life was a true testament to the fortitude that a strong woman can give to her family, church and community. She was greatly loved and will be truly missed.
George Ford Pledger

GEORGE FORD PLEDGER 95, of Paris, joined his wife of 70 years, with his Heavenly Lord at 9:40 PM, Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Paris Nursing Home. Funeral services are set for 2:00 PM, Monday, November 24, 2008 in the chapel of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Cannon and Rev. Fred Fangio officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:00 PM, Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Pledger was born January 9, 1913 in Paris to George Henry and Alice Adelaide Fenter Pledger. He graduated from Paris High School and served in the US Army, Battery B, 133rd Field Artillery prior to World War II in the late 1930’s. He attended the first school of radar technology in the northeast part of the country. Mr. Pledger was a 60 year Mason and was the longest surviving member of First Baptist Church having been a member since 1925. He was a civil service examiner and worked as a postal clerk in the local post office for many years. Mr. Pledger married
Jeanette Bills on November 7, 1937 in the Howland Community of Lamar County. She died January 30, 2007.
Mr. Pledger is survived by his four children, Patricia Moore and husband, Thomas of Oxford, Michigan, Barbara “Bee” Garmon of Paris, Ellen Toelke of Katy, Texas, and George David Pledger and wife, Patricia of Hanahan, South Carolina; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Norman Garmon.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Moore, David Pledger, Tom Pledger, David Mosteller, Van Smith, Kelley Smith, Kenneth Garmon, and Michael Garmon.

Claudia D. Irwin, 53, of Powderly, passed away holding her husband’s hand on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at her home in Powderly from Pancreatic Cancer. Cremation was arranged by Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home, and a memorial service will be held at the Lightfoot Bldg, 12 First Street, NE, on Sunday, December 14th, 2008, at 2:00 PM.
She was born in Euclid, Ohio, January 10, 1955, to H. K. and Lucille Dempsey Davidson. She graduated from Euclid High School in 1973 and received a BS in History and Political Science from Oklahoma City University in 1977. She married
her kindred spirit, Mike Irwin, on April 30, 1981, in Oklahoma City.
Always passionate about history, she earned a Masters of Liberal Studies with Museum Emphasis in 1988 from the University of Oklahoma. While her husband was stationed in Idaho, she helped found a small historical museum in Rigby, Idaho. In the 1990’s, while living in the Dallas area, she earned a Teaching Certificate, and taught elementary school in Cedar Hill and Midlothian, Texas.
Claudia moved with her family to Powderly in 2000, and was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in May of 2003. Despite several surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, she joined the staff of Paris Regional Medical Center in November of 2004 as a Project Specialist in Cancer Education, and for over two and a half years enjoyed educating schools, churches, and local civic groups in skin and colon cancer prevention.
She left Paris Regional Medical Center in August of 2007, when her grant-funded position ended, and was able to enjoy several wonderful trips with her sisters, her niece, her daughter, her husband and sons, and several friends. She touched the lives of everyone she met with her love, her strength, and her friendship.
Survivors include her husband, Mike Irwin, of Powderly, her daughter, Sierra Irwin, of Seabrook, TX, her son Jed Irwin, at Texas Tech in Lubbock, her son Luke Irwin, at the University of TX in Austin; her father H.K. Davidson of Scottsdale, AZ; sisters Barbette Lobello and husband Frank of Gurnee, IL; Debbie Zdanowicz and husband Dan of Sedona, AZ; and her twin sister Lydia Schlinkert of Scottsdale, AZ. She is also survived by a niece, Dani Lobello, and five nephews: Brett Lobello, Ryan Lobello, David Schlinkert, Peter Schlinkert, and Andrew Schlinkert.

Mary Belle Haley, 88, of Paris died Monday June 23, 2008 at Parkview Convalescent Center. Fry-Gibbs funeral home will conduct graveside services 10:00 a.m. Friday at Forest Chapel cemetery with Rev. Mike Shupp officiating.
She was born October 12, 1919 in Lamar County a daughter of Milton and Lillie Pollard Dollins. She was married
to Jack Pursell in Hugo, Oklahoma on March 14, 1937 until his death in 1968. She then married
Joe Haley, July 12, 1969 in Napa, California. She was a member of the Chicota Baptist Church
Survivors include children, Virginia Perez, William Pursell and Jerry Pursell; grandchildren, Julia Martin, Beth Perez, John Perez, Deborah Pursell, Bradley Pursell, Lisa Bartnik, Jack Pursell, Traci Lollar and numerous Step-Grandchildren and Great Grand Children and a brother, Bob Dollins.

Joyce Ann Mills Lewis 73, of Paris, Texas passed away June 22, 2008 in Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas. She was born on September 20, 1934 in Mayfield, KY a daughter of Curtis and Hilda Mae Woodson Mills. Local survivors include brothers Freddie Mills, Dub Mills, Ernie Mills; sister Karen Coleman daughters Barbara Rose of Paris, TX and Brenda K. Lewis of California; son Jeffrey Lewis of California.
Services will be conducted at a later date in the Maple Woods cemetery. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of the Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home in Paris, Texas.

Mrs. Farmer was born September 19, 1919 in Neukarchen, Germany the daughter of Curt Julius and Elfriede Stapelfeld Sattler. She married
John H. Farmer on December 29, 1952 in Neukarchen. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1993. She was a member of the Lamar Avenue Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Rolf-Joachim Sattler; and one sister, Erika Sattler Schutz.
She is survived by a brother, Heinz Sattler and wife, Joan of North Wales, Great Britain; a brother-in-law, Wayne Farmer and wife, Gail; a sister-in-law, Monte Downs; and her dear friend and cargiver, Mary Elizabeth Sharber.
