Loretta Pynes
Loretta Pynes, 87, of Cunningham died Sunday, July 2, 2000, in Paris Nursing Home.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday in Cunningham Baptist Church with the Rev. C.G. Renfro officiating. Burial was in Restland cemetery.

Mrs. Pynes was born Sept. 16, 1912, in Cunningham to Charlie and Cassie Chambers Bledsoe. She was a homemaker and member of Cunningham Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford Pynes, in 1984, and by two brothers, Hollis and Jimmy Ray Bledsoe, and a grandson, Dennis Neal Pynes.

Surviving are three children, Dorothy Dean Ogden of Longview, Charles "Buddy" Pynes and Linda Sue Pynes of Paris; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Sieminski of Grand Prairie, Yvonne Adair of Florida, and Betty Hershour of Ben Wheeler; and two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Bledsoe of Ben Wheeler and Mutt Bledsoe of Linden.

Pallbearers were Clifton Bazhaw, James Bazhaw, Trey Gifford, Brandon Moore, Darwin Pynes, and Bryan hawkes. www.legacy.com

Susie Marie Belcher Bivins
BOGATA - Susie Marie Belcher Bivins, 85, of Cuthand died Sunday, July 2, 2000, in East Texas Medical Center, Clarksville.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, in Cuthand Methodist Church with the Rev. Kenny Dickson and the Rev. Don Shovan officiating. Burial will in Cuthand cemetery by Wood funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 8-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bivins was born Oct. 18, 1913, in Red River County to John Wesley and Sallie Blalock Belcher. She married William Ray "Bill" Bivins Nov. 14, 1931. He preceded her in death Jan. 18, 1975. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a precious and loved daughter-in-law, Bonnie Lanora Smith Bivins; two great-great-special grandsons, Tate Adam Stewart and William Hayden "Little Willie" Holt; four brothers, Colonel Alford Belcher, Clarence Clint "Red" Belcher, John Herman Belcher and Robert Frelon "Bud" Belcher.

Mrs. Bivins was a farmer, rancher, and homemaker her entire life.

She is survived by her children: a son, Donald Ray "Pop" Bivins and his wife, Pauline of Bogata; four daughters, Nina Jo Holt and her husband Robert of Bogata, Jimmie Fay Stewart and her husband Noil Lee of Lewisville, Billie Sue McConnell and her husband, Clayton of Midland, and Johnnie Loyce Jones and her husband, Leo of Clarksville; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Etta Viola Coggins and her husband, Johnny of Talco, Sallie Thomas Belcher Thomas of Gunter, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, and a number of loving friends.

Lee Roy Doty
Lee Roy Doty, 70, of Cleveland, Texas, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at the home of his daughter, 3170 Lamar Ave.

Bright-Holland Funeral Home will conduct services at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, at Landmark Apostolic Church with burial in Springhill cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Doty was born Sept. 2, 1929, in Quanah to Loving Jay and Bertie Doty. He was an auto parts buyer before his retirement.

Survivors include five children, Larry Driver of Buleson, Connie Marvin of Ada, Okla., Palma Russell of Paris, Danny Doty of Harrison, Arl., and Lee Roy Doty Jr. of Cleveland; two sisters, Ruby Hope of Whitney and Pearl Dean Belcher of Quanah; a brother, Dutch Doty of Quanah; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. www.legacy.com

James A. Hawthorne
James A. Hawthorne, 71, of Clarksville died Friday, June 30, 2000, at his home.

Services were at 10 a.m. Monday, July 3, at First Baptist Church, Wright City, with the Rev. Charles Duvall officiating. Huckleberry Funeral Service of Valliant, Okla., made burial was in Slater Memorial cemetery with military graveside rites.

He was born Nov. 10, 1928, in Garvin, Okla., and was a member of American Legion Post No. 74, Wright City. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a retired carpenter.

Surviving are his wife, Diane; daughters, Deborah Post of Millerton, Annette McLemore of Ringgold, La., and Judy DeMasi of Falls Church, Va.; brothers, Steve and George Henry Hawthorne of Howe, Texas; sisters, LuEtta Walker of Wright City, Betty Griffin of Texas, Allie Hargrove, Velma Frampton, and Annnie Mae Peacock, all of Howe; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were James and Kenneth Campbell, Richard, Robert and Teddy Ferguson and Lee Wilson. Honorary bearers were James Johnson and Bill Felker.

Estelle Hooten
COOPER - Estelle Hooten, 86, of Sulphur Springs, formerly of Cooper died Saturday, July 1, 2000.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 3, at First United Methodist Church in Cooper with Leroy Reaves and Nan Davis officiating. Delta Funeral Home made burial in Oaklawn cemetery.

She was born Oct. 11, 1923, in Clyde to Arthur Lee and Grace Bourland McIntosh. She was an ordained deaconess in the United Methodist Church. Her husband, Clovis A. Hooten, died in 1978.

Surviving are a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Linda and Chester McKinney of Austin; two step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Margie Hartline Layton
Margie Hartline Layton, 59, of Paris died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at her home.

Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home will conduct graveside services at noon Tuesday, July 4, at Shady Grove cemetery with the Rev. Carey Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Layton was born July 3, 1940, in Vivian, La., to Willie and Maudie Harger Hartline. Following the death of her mother, she was raised by her stepmother, Florence Hartline. She graduated from North Caddo Mills High School in Louisiana and married Wesley Albert "Bill" Layton in Jan. 1962 in Vivian. He died Feb. 2, 1992. She was a homemaker and spent all of her life raising children. She was a member of the Baptist church.

Surviving are a special friend, Barry Jones of Paris; four sons, Tommy Layton and wife Cendy, Donny Layton and wife Wendy, Wesley Layton and Jerry Layton; two stepsons, Lonnie Layton and wife Laura, all of Paris, and Larry Layton and wife Debbie of Sulphur Springs; nine grandchildren, Shelbey, Tiffany, Christopher, Kimberly, Lonna, and Eric Layton, all of Paris, Justin Tidwell of Paris, and Matthew and Lacinda Layton of Sulphur Springs; a brother, Fred Hartline of Vivian. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Dorothy Hartline, and an infant son, Terry Wayne Layton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Bailey, Eric Layton, Duane Laforge, Cotton Sitz, Jerry Easley and Cody Pool. www.legacy.com

David Ernest Geer
DEPORT - David Ernest Geer, 92, formerly of Pattonville, died Friday, June 30, 2000, in Deport Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 3, in First Baptist Church of Deport, with the Rev. Freddy Burden, the Rev. Jim Benifer and the Rev. George Rape officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Paris under direction of Wood Funeral Home of Deport.

Mr. Geer, a retired automobile repairman and rancher, was born Jan. 17, 1908, in Deport, a son of William Ernest Geer and Rosa Kidd Geer. He married the former Mary Eudy Dec. 22, 1928. He attended Deport schools and Paris Junior College and worked at Lamar Chevrolet Company 31 years before going into the private automobile repair business. He taught Veterans Vocational Mechanics school in Paris and retired to his ranch in Pattonville.

He served as a deacon for more than 50 years in several Baptist Churches in Paris, Pattonville and Deport and at the time of his death was a member of First Baptist Church of Deport. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary Eudy Geer, July 17, 1995, and his son, William David "Bill" Geer in January 2000.

He is survived by a daughter, Joyce Geer Love and her husband Phil of Fort Worth; a daughter-in-law, Ann Geer of Pattonville; three granddaughters, Becky Geer Emerson and husband Chris of Reno; Nancy Love Klinkenberg and husband Gus of Arlington and Linda Love Fisher and husband Drew of Plano; three great-grandchildren, Misty Anne Emerson of Reno, Bethany Klinkenberg of Arlington and Dillon Fisher of Plano; a sister, Esther Capley of Louisville, Ken., and a sister-in-law, Mary Geer, of Central Point, Ore.

Pallbearers will be Gene Fields, Gordon Isbell, Raymond Hoover, Claude Tyler, Johnny Dawson and Buster Crossland. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Westbrook, James Holt, Cecil Allen, Phillip Roach, Red Weaver and other deacons of First Baptist Church of Deport.

Larry F. Kyle
LUBBOCK - Services for Larry F. Kyle, 68, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2000, in St. Luke's United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Mills officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under direction of Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home.

He died Thursday, June 29, at Convenant Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 16, 1932, in Oklahoma City. He had been a resident of Lubbock since 1950, going there from Paris.

He married Carol Sweny Aug. 19, 1961, in Lubbock. He was a graduate of Paris High and received a bachelor's degree in math in 1959 and a bachelor of science in geology in 1960 from Texas Tech University.

He was a National Guard veteran, and served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict, when he received the National Defense Service Medal.

He was budget officer for the United States Postal Service 24 years and the National Cowboy Symposium more than 20 years.

He and his wife were honored by the National Cowboy Symposium as volunteer of the year in 1999.

He served on the board of the Texas Plains Federal Credit Union 14 years. He was an Indian Guide Leader at the YMCA 10 years.

He was a Monterey Band Booster Club member where he received the booster award. He was a member of the Texas Tech Ex Students Association and an avid Lady Raider Basketball fan. He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, the Harmony Sunday School Class, was on the usher committee and served as youth coordinator 10 years.

Survivrs include his wife, Carol of Lubbock; two sons, Larry Kreg Kyle of Irving and Guy Kurt Kyle of Cedar Hill; and a grandson, Kolby Freeman Kyle of Cedar Hill.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
