Zona Harris
Zona Harris, 96, of Paris died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at McCuistion Regional Medical Center.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at Gene Roden's Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Julie Halstead and Haskell England officiating. Burial was in Hopewell cemetery. Mrs. Harris was born March 6, 1904, in Hopewell to George Horn and Christine Miller Keesling. She married Gus V. Harris July 5, 1923. He died Sept. 10, 1987. She was a homemaker and member of Oak Park United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a son, Gus V. Harris and wife Barbara of Hopewell; a son-in-law, Charles Arnold of Sumner; grandchildren, Thomas Arnold and wife Lori, Stephen Arnold and wife Annette, Kristi Harris Hodgkiss and husband Dennis, Alice Harris Scully and husband Tommy; and great-grandchildren, Joshua, Aaron, Cheslea, Kevin and Samantha Arnold, Carver and Colin Hodgkiss, and Grace Scully. He was preceded in death by daughters, Mary Virginia Ervin and Christine Arnold; a son, Glen Keesling Harris; a sister, Vera Harris, and granddaughters, JoLynn and Myra Ervin.

Pallbearers will be Eldon Holcomb, Glenn Gambill, Gerald Harris, Charlie Arnold, Thomas Arnold, Stephen Arnold, Dennis Hodgkiss, and Tommy Scully. www.legacy.com

Herman Bailey
DALLAS - Herman Bailey, 59, born in Gilmer, died Friday, June 30, 2000, in Terrell.

Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, at Restland Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Waco officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Bluff cemetery in Detroit, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, at Restland Funeral Home.

Survivors include daughters, Debra Wade and husband Kenneth, and Lisa Hoyt and husband Don; a son, Kenneth Bailey and wife Regina; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sisters, Kathryn Clark of Bagwell and Mozelle Dean of Detroit; a brother, Leonard Bailey; and mother and father, Caton and Lucille Bailey of Bagwell.

Margaret Mitchell, 82, of Clarksville, died Saturday, July 1, 2000. Arrangements are pending with Clarksville Funeral Home.

Lillie B. Denson, of Paris, died Friday, June 30, 2000, in McCuistion Regional Medical Center. Services are pending with Maxey Funeral Home.

William O. Key
KERRVILLE - William O. Key, 80, of Kerrville died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at his home.

Services were scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, June 30, at Western Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Morrow officiating. Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville has charge of arrangements.

Mr. Key, a resident of Kerrville for 12 years, was a longtime resident of Paris. He was born Aug. 23, 1919, in High to William Walter and Ethel Dora Barnes Key.

He served his country faithfully with the U.S. Navy Seabees 111th during World War II, retiring as a second lieutenant. He served in the Philippines and at Normandy Beach. Mr. Key was a retired electrical contractor. He married Ernestene Scrimshire April 30, 1988, in Hunt, Texas. He was a member of Western Hills Baptist Church and Hill Country Good Sam's Travel Club.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Jane Camardella of San Antonio and Anne Trappman of Tucson, Ariz.; a son, William N. Key of Paris; one sister, Josephine McCarty of Arlington; stepchildren, Billy E. Spears of Burleson, Sam Spears of Kerrville, and Sandra Gavin of Portland, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Lavern Nobles Key.

Memorials may be made to Western Hills Baptist Church Building Fund, 2010 Goat Creek Rd., Kerrville, Texas 78028 or Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital Hospice, 710 Water St., Kerrville, Texas 78028.

Donna Mae Arnold
Donna Mae Arnold, , 87, 2193 E. Cherry, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at Crescent Care Center.

Bright-Holland Funeral Home will conduct graveside services at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at Evergreen cemetery with Dr. L.C. Stout officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside services and will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Billy W. Arnold, 6695 Pine Mill Rd., at other times.

Mrs. Arnold was born Jan. 17, 1913, in Delta County to T.G. and Ada Shaw Spradlin. She married Solen R. Arnold in December 1930. They were married 64 years before his death May 30, 1995. She was a homemaker and a member of East Paris Baptist Church and its Golden Rebekah Sunday School Class.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Billy W. and Juanita Arnold of Reno; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jack Holt of Odessa; three grandchildren, Tom Holt and Becky Leonard, both of Odessa and Shanna Peace of Kyle; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers. www.legacy.com

Orval Ray Johnston
Orval Ray Johnston, 70, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, in Fayetteville, Ark while on a trip.,

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 1 p.m. in Roberson Funeral Home Chapel in Alice with Dr. Randy Houston officiating. The family will receive friends at Robertson Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Bright-Holland Funeral Home will conduct graveside services at 1 p.m. Monday, July 3, at Evergreen cemetery.

He was a long time resident of Alice and retired from the Army Depot in Corpus Christi as a pipe fitter. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict. His wife, Imogene Johnston, died in December 1998.

Surviving are a stepson, Ronald Cunningham and wife Mable of San Antonio; three grandsons, Stephen Cunningham of Jackson, Miss., Ronald Cunningham Jr. and wife Karen of Pflugerville, and Paul Michael Cunningham of San Antonio; a great-grandson, Christian Cunningham of Jackson, Miss.; two brothers, Velatus Johnston of Alice and Loman Johnston and wife Cora of San Antonio; a sister, Gilda McElroy and husband Henry of Buda, Texas, and 45 nieces and nephews. www.legacy.com

Major Rogers
Major Rogers, known to family and friends as "Sarge" of Dallas, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000,

Services were at 11 a.m. Friday, June 30, at New Caleb Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas with the Maxey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will be Saturday at Llano cemetery in Amarillo.

He served in the Army during World War II and was retired from Amarillo Cooper Refinery Co. He also had worked for the state of Alaska. His wife, Christine Raven Rogers, preceded in death.

Surviving are a sister, Thelma Gilmore, and a number of nieces, nephews, and foster children. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine, and brothers, Charles and Nathan.

Pauline V. Fowler
COOPER - Pauline Virginia Fowler, 87, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, in Northport, Ala.

Delta Funeral Home will conduct graveside services at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 2, at Restland cemetery in Roxton.

She was born Oct. 7, 1912, to James Monroe and Mary Jane Hubbs Burrow. She lived in Roxton and Mineola before moving to Alabama in 1996. Her husband, Ray Fowler, brothers J.C., L.C. and Raymond Burrow and a sister, Margaret Burrow, preceded her in death.

Surviving are a son, Ronnie Ray Fowler of Northport, Ala.; a sister, Inell Cross of Dallas; and four grandchildren.

Robert Harold Deaton
Robert Harold Deaton, 90, of Paris died at 2:05 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Deport Nursing Home.

Services were at 10 a.m. Friday, June 30, in Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gaither Day officiating. Burial rites were at 12:30 p.m. in Rose Hill cemetery, Pittsburg.

Mr. Deaton was born Oct. 9, 1909, in Pittsburg to Allen and Georgia Storey Deaton. He attended Pittsburg schools and East Texas State Teacher's College. He moved to Paris with the Federal Land Bank in 1938. He opened R.H. Deaton Tractor Co., in 1945 which became R.H. Deaton Seed and Feed Co., later incorporated as Red River Valley Produce Co. He was also a vice president and loan officer of First National Bank of Paris. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and its Builders Class and was a past member of the administrative board of the church and was a past memer of the Paris Rotary Club.

He married Ruth Ferguson April 15, 1933 in Texarkana. She died Nov. 23, 1997.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Glenda Deaton of Paris, and a grandson, Rod Deaton of Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters. www.legacy.com
