Jane Garrison Smith
CLARKSVILLE - Jane Garrison Smith, 62, Rt. 2, Detroit, the Woodland community, died at her home Thursday, June 20, 2000.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 1, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
She was born at Kiomatia July 9, 1937, to Rufus and Gladys Brock Garrison. She was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, James F. Smith; a son and daughter-in-law, James Duane "Buck" Smith and wife Terri of Detroit; daughter and son-in-law, Linda Smith Daniels and husband John of Houston; a daughter, Janie Smith Holmes and Louis Loftice of Honey Grove; 10 sisters-in-law; nine brothers-in-law; grandchildren, James Phillip Smith, Justin Allison, Heather Smith, Kristi Smith, Lee Holmes, Shannon Crow, Bobby Loftice, Amy Loftice, and Lynette Holmes; three great-grandchildren, McKinna Smith, Taylor Crow and Bailey Crow; two auints and one uncle; and several friends and neighbors.
The family requests donations be made to Woodland United Methodist Church, Wood cemetery, or the Lisa Brown Scholarship at Detroit High School. She was preceded in death by a brother Travis "Buddy" Garrison.

Horace J. Smith
Horace J. Smith, 78, of Paris died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at his home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 30, in Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Deverle Archer officiating. Burial will be in Meadowbrook cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Lamar County to P.E. and Annie Northam Smith. He married
Myra Sue Cochran April 4, 1945, in the Burnett community of Lamar County. He was retired from Babcock and Wilcox where he was supervisor for several years. He attended the Pentecostal church.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Sue; a son, Charles Smith and wife Cindy of Paris; grandchildren, Shannon Lane and husband Lance of Dallas, Allison Smith and her fiance Chad Smith of Bryan, and Wade Smith of Paris; one great-grandchild, Preston Smith Lane of Dallas; a sister, Juanita Waits and husband Wilburn of Paris; a sister-in-law, Estell Margraves of Paris; and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

G.W. "Dub" Range
GARLAND - G.W. "Dub" Range, 85, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, in Garland.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 30, in Cockrell Chapel at First Baptist Church of Garland with Dr. Carr Suter and Dr. Steve Davis officiating. Burial will be in Garland Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Williams Funeral Directors.
He was born Sept. 10, 1914, in Garland to Irby Carl and Wilda Carr Range. He was a partner in Corley & Range Phillips 66 Distributors. He served in the Army in China during World War II.
He was very involved in the local community and was a member of Garland City Council from 1965-69, serving as mayor pro tem in 1969 and was a long time member of Garland Chamber of Commerce. He was on the board of directors for the North Texas Municipal Water District from 1972- 92, and on the board of directors for Garland-Mills cemetery Foundation.
Mr. Range was an early sponsor of Garland Little League, a member of Bank Coffee Club and was a life member of VFW. He married
Dorothy Olinger July 26, 1941.
Surviving are his wife; children and their spouses, Lynn and Paul Wells of Paris, Cathy and Rick Clopton of Garland, and Jeff and Terri Range of Garland; six grandchildren, Charlotte Wells of Atlanta, Ga., Elizabeth Wells of Paris, Jake Range and Jocelyn Range, both of Garland, Katie Clopton and Sarabeth Clopton, both of Garland; and one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Range of Belton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John Range.

Winston N. DeWitt
COOPER - Winston N. DeWitt, 79, of Tyler died there Wednesday, June 28, 2000.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 30, in Delta Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stacey Smith officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. DeWitt was born Feb. 1, 1921, in Enloe to George and Ethel Fleming DeWitt. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific area during World War II. He had served two terms as county commissioner in Delta County and had done commercial construction work. After moving to Tyler in 1971, he did custom dirt work and bought and sold commercial equipment. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Geraldine Carrington DeWitt, and a brother, G. Jerry DeWitt.
Surviving are his wife, Irene Neyland DeWitt; a daughter, Peggy DeWitt Carlisle of Paris; a son, Geral Wynn DeWitt of Rowlett; two stepsons, Randy Edwards of Mission Viejo, Calif. and Neil Edwards of Rialto, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Stegall, Bill Jackson, Lane Young, and Gene DeWitt.
James L. Boone Sr.
James L. Boone Sr., 70, of Dallas died Saturday, June 24, 2000.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 30, at Church of the Living God, 1112 South Ewing Ave., Dallas, with Bishop C.C. Berry Jr. officiating. Golden Gates Funeral Home will make burial.
Mr. Boone was born Jan. 2, 1930, in Paris. He graduated from Gibbons High School in 1948 and had served in the U.S. Army. He accepted Christ at an early age at the Olive Branch Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. A.M. Seamon. He was a member of the Church of the Living God in Dallas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Les Boone and his stepfather, Lewis Mallory.
Surviving are his wife, Maxine; his mother, Verla Mallory, a brother and sister-in-law, Louis Yates Sr. and Louise Yates, all of Paris; stepbrother, Harry Mallory of St. Louis, Mo.; three daughters, Mary L. Carpenter, Phyllis D. Boone, and Lafonda D. Kledlow, all of Dallas; two sons, James J. Boone Jr. and Michael A. Boone, both of Dallas; three nephews, Louis Yates Jr., Marcus Yates and Terry Yates, all of Paris; a niece, Cynthia Yates of Paris; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a number of other special relatives and friends.
Billa J. Ballard
Billa J. Ballard, 36, 2160 Graham St., died Monday, June 26, 2000, at Christus St. Joseph's Hospital.
Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Nolan Butler officiating. Burial was in Meadowbrook cemetery.

She was born May 28, 1964, in Paris to Billy Finley and Betty Burchinal Henry. She married
David Ballard June 16, 1984, in Paris. She was a member of College Church of Christ and North Texas Support Group for Ataxia.
Surviving are her husband; two children, Jenni Kay Ballard and Joey Kyle Ballard, both of the home; her grandfather, William L. "Bill" Burchinal, Rt. 2, Paris; three brothers, Joseph L. "Jody" Henry of Paris, Lee Henry of Dallas and Jason Henry of Paris; and numerous aunts, uncles, in-laws, cousins and friends.

Robert Harold Deaton
Robert Harold Deaton, 90, of Paris died at 2:05 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Deport Nursing Home.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 30, in Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gaither Day officiating. Burial rites will be at 12:30 p.m. in Rose Hill cemetery, Pittsburg. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Deaton was born Oct. 9, 1909, in Pittsburg to Allen and Georgia Storey Deaton. He attended Pittsburg schools and East Texas State Teacher's College. He moved to Paris with the Federal Land Bank in 1938. He opened R.H. Deaton Tractor Co., in 1945 which became R.J. Deaton Seed and Feed Co., later incorporated as Red River Valley Produce Co. He was also a vice president and loan officer of First National Bank of Paris. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and its Builders Class and was a past member of the administrative board of the church and was a past memer of the Paris Rotary Club.
He married
Ruth Ferguson April 15, 1933 in Texarkana. She died Nov. 23, 1997.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Glenda Deaton of Paris, and a grandson, Rod Deaton of Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters. www.legacy.com

Dr. Imogene Dickey Mohat
DENTON - Dr. Imogene Dickey Mohat, 91, of Denton died Monday, June 26, 2000, at Denton Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at St. Andrew Presbyteran Church with the Rev. Stephen Plunkett officiating. Schmitz-Floyd-Anderson Funeral Home will make burial in Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Dr. Mohat was born Sept. 30, 1908, in Paris. She was a retired English professor at the University of North Texas and a member of P.E.D. Women's Auxiliary. Her husband, Dr. John T. Mohat died Sept. 22, 1993.
Surviving are a son, Mike Mohat of Denton; daughter, Marion Clark of Bridgewater, N.J.; a niece, Barbara Patrick of Fort Worth; great-niece, Tamara Cameron of Fort Worth; great-great-nieces, Kathryn Cameron and Dawn Cameron of Fort Worth; nephew, Jim Bentley of Cleburne; great-nephew, Aaron Bentley of Cleburne; and cousins, Freda Fry of Hugo, Okla., Billy Roundtree of Elsberry, Mo., Miller Hamilton of Tulsa, Elizabeth Wilkins of New Orleans, Charlene King of Tyler, Jean Earls of Tyler, Edna Scroggin of Rowlett and Rudy Roundtree of Coppell.
