Eli David Taylor
June 21, 2008
Eli David Taylor 29 of Pea Ridge, Ark. passed away Saturday June 21, 2008 outside of Cassville, Missouri as a result of a car accident.

Eli was born on May 16, 1979 the son of Rick & Linda Bean Taylor. He is survived by his parents of Garfield, Ark.; wife Rickki Taylor of Pea Ridge, Ark.; brother Dallas Taylor of Pea Ridge; Son Brody Taylor; Step daughter Champayne; stepsons Kyle and Tough; grandparents Katy & Jim Bean, Kenny & Shirley Webster of Jewett, Tx., and J.W. Taylor of Sims, Tx.; special cousins Timothy and Chris .

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. Monday in the New Haven cemetery with Rev. Frank Parson officiating. Services are under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.

Grace Moore Callaway
June 20, 2008
GRACE MOORE CALLAWAY 96, of Roxton, died at 4:18 AM, Friday, June 20, 2008 at her home. A graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Monday, June 23, 2008 at Hickory Grove cemetery near Petty with Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:00 PM, Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Callaway was born September 4, 1911 near Sulphur Springs in Mahoney, Texas to Alex Boyd and Lydia McClure Sandefur. She married Robert Henry Moore on October 28, 1933 in Hugo, Oklahoma. He died in 1979. She later married Leonard Callaway who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Callaway was a cook for many years in the cafeteria of St. Joseph’s Hospital and Roxton ISD. She also served as the senior citizens site manager in Roxton and was a sitter. Mrs. Callaway was a member of the First Baptist Church in Roxton.

Mrs. Callaway is survived by one son, Robert Truman Moore and wife, Brenda; a step-daughter, Helen Moore Owens; nine grandchildren, Karen Puyear, Michael Moore, Wesley and Angie Moore, Chuck Moore, Cindy Moore Fulbright and Terry, Jackie Owens, Robert Owens, J.C. Owens, and Gwen Owens Albertus; 25 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by twin daughters, Ava and Eva Moore; a son, W.C. Moore; five brothers, Ezell, Newt, Wesley, Roy Moore and one infant brother; and one sister, Beatrice Sandefur.

HELEN FRAZIER MARTIN
June 19, 2008
Helen Frazier Martin, 75, of Roxton passed away Thursday June 19, 2008 at Dubuis Hospital. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday June 21 at the Roxton United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Gilmer and Rev. Paul Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Restland cemetery in Roxton under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service 9-10 a.m.

Helen Frazier Martin was born July 8, 1932 in Brookston, a daughter of Walter Irvin and Mary Virginia Shaeffer Frazier. She attended schools in Brookston and Roxton, graduating from Roxton High School in 1949. She married Charles E. Martin in 1950. She retired from Western Auto Supply Co. in Temple, Tx. after 38 years of service, as lead person in the payroll and accounting department. After retirement she returned to Roxton and became Editor of the Roxton Progress. As Editor, she was named to the Media Honor Roll by the State Board of Education for several years. She was a member of the Roxton United Methodist Church and had served as chairman of the Council on Ministries and as a member of the Administrative Board for many years. She taught the Junior High Sunday School Class.

She served as a council member on the Roxton City Council for many years. She was a charter member of the Roxton Community Development Committee and served as chair person for the first seven years; was a charter member of the CRT Museum Committee; and served on the Advisory committee for Roxton ISD.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles, in 1990; her son, Charles Ronald Martin in 1995, and a brother Grady Frazier in 2002.

She is survived by her grandson, Joel Zachary Martin and wife Hona; great grandchildren, Jackson, Lily and Harrison Martin; a brother, Clark Frazier and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Barry Frazier, Justin Frazier, James Childers, Michael Childers, Ross Frazier and Levi Frazier.

Jean Fields
June 19, 2008
Jean “Me Ma” Fields 71, of Paris passed away Thursday June 19, 2008 in Paris Regional Medical Center. She was born on December 14, 1936 in Nettleton, Mississippi a daughter of William Robert and Lillie May Tidwell Cantrell.

Mrs. Fields was a member of the Paris Church of God. She found enjoyment in playing bingo. On November 21, 1952 she married Roy Fields in Nettleton, Arkansas. He preceded her in death along with her parents, 9 siblings, grandson Christopher Fields; granddaughter Jennifer Allensworth.

Survivors include sons Jerry Fields of Paris and Bobby Fields and wife Dana of Lexington, South Carolina; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Holt officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen cemetery. Family will receive friends from 4:00 till 5:30 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and a true friend to everyone who knew her.

Alice Jean Toney Bonham
June 18, 2008
ALICE JEAN TONEY BONHAM of the Hopewell Community, died at 4:32 PM, Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at her home. Cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service according to her wishes. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday evening, June 20, 2008 at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Bonham was born May 15, 1941 in Hugo, Oklahoma to Gus and Margaret Kerr Toney. She graduated from Detroit High School and received both her Bachelors and Masters degrees from East Texas State University. Alice also did post-graduate work toward her Doctorate degree. She taught school for 36 years and 33 of those years were for the North Lamar ISD. She also taught in Colorado and for the Rivercrest ISD. Alice married Ray Bonham on August 16, 1990 in Paris.

Mrs. Bonham is survived by her husband, Ray Bonham of Hopewell; two sons, Jeff Shurtleff and wife, Kelley of Paris and Chris Shurtleff and wife, Michele of Fruita, Colorado; five grandchildren, Victoria Shurtleff of Blossom, Jacks and Daniel Shurtleff of Austin, Texas, Lauren Morris, and Corrisa Hill, both of Fruita; one great-grandson, Cayton Smith of Blossom; one sister, Sherry Charles and husband, Mackey of Paris; one brother, Randy Bentley and wife, Wanda of Deltona, Florida; three brothers-in-law, Aubrey Bonham and wife, Roberta of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jim Bonham and wife, Darlene of Dallas, and Wes Bonham and wife, Donna of Hillsboro, Oregon; and several special cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Gus Toney; her mother, Margaret Kerr Toney Bentley; one brother, Robin Bentley; and her step-father, Chick Bentley.

Alice was dearly loved by her family and many friends. She will be greatly missed.

Memorials may be made to the Aaron Parker Elementary School Library, 200 Highway 271 North, Powderly, Texas 75473.

Rev. Matt T. Woolum

Rev. Matt Woolum 79, of Paris went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday June 17, 2008.

He was born on June 27, 1928 in Middlesboro, KY. a son of Thomas Jefferson and Mossie Mae Day Wollum. He had worked as a bus driver, painter, and construction. Rev. Woolum was a member of Kaufman First Assembly of God and while he had lived in Paris attended Highway Full Gospel until his illness.

Rev. Woolum was a devoted man who loved serving God and his family. He served as an evangelist for many years.

He was preceded in death by parents, son Kenneth Ray Woolum, brothers Clarence, Everett, and Elwood Woolum, sisters Artie Farmer and Bertha Gordon, his first wife Becky Jo Woolum and step-daughter Ann Collins.

Survivors include: spouse Marie Woolum; sons Jesse and wife Christy of Duncanville, Johhny Creekmore of Paris and Jeremiah Adams; daughters Ina Bost and husband Robert of Paris, Marti Woolum of Cedar Hill; step-daughter Mary Smith; step-sons Calvin and Bobby Trice of Crandall; granddaughters Amber Orr, Paige Bost of Paris, PFC Robbin Bost currently serving in Germany, Misti Morris and Ashley Barnes of Plano; grandsons Ronnie Orr of Strawberry Plains, TN. Travis Woolum of Dallas, Daniel Woolum and Thomas Chambers of Paris and numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Gloyd Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the East Post Oak cemetery. Family will receive friends from 7:00 till 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Larry Dean Armstrong
June 14, 2008
Larry Dean Armstrong 56, of Paris, Tx. passed away Saturday June 14, 2008 at his residence. He was born on May 7, 1952 in Paris a son of Robert J. & Billie Partridge Armstrong.

Larry was an employee of Direct Energy where he was a control room operator. His co-workers said of Larry that he was a devoted and professional employee always following thru with any job leaving nothing undone. He had formerly worked for State of Texas, Xerox, and was a graduate of Paris High School. As his family and friends will attest he loved a good debate. He was a Christian and an avid collector of various things.

Larry was an avid Harley enthusiast and was known as “Highway Glider”. He was a very fortunate man because of his loyal and devoted friends. They were always there when he needed them most especially during his illness.

Survivors are his father Robert J. Armstrong; sons Crist and Casey Armstrong; grandchildren Samantha and Samuel Armstrong; brother Mark Armstrong; sister Diane Vassar. He was preceded in death by his mother Billie J. Martin.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Saturday in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Randall Scott officiating. Entombment will be in the Evergreen cemetery. Family will receive friends from 7:00 till 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

The Armstrong family would like to thank Ricky Thornton, Coy Lawson, Direct Energy and co-workers and his friends who were there for Larry during his illness.

Larry was loved by his family and friends and will be deeply missed.

Milburn C. Myers
June 13, 2008
MILBURN C. MYERS 79, passed away at 8:20 AM, Friday, June 13, 2008 at Paris Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 16, 2008 in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Dickey officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Gardens cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:00 PM Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Milburn was born December 10, 1928 in Petty to Charley Sim and Beulah Mae Carter Myers. He grew up in Lamar County and began his military service in 1948. He served in the US Army for 28 years and retired attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. During his military career, Milburn served in Korea and two tours in Vietnam as well as completing assignments in Japan, Germany, and France.

After retiring from the Army in 1975 and returning to Lamar County in 1977, Milburn and his wife, Dorothy Jo purchased property in East Post Oak and began a small cattle operation which continues to operate today. Milburn also worked for Lamar County, Precinct 4 for several years and retired from the county in 1994. Additionally, Milburn served as a volunteer fireman for the East Post Oak Community for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, J.C., Eldon, and Howard Myers; and one sister, Alvie Thompson.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jo Myers of East Post Oak; two daughters, Patricia Juanita Griffith and husband, Jimmy of Hurst and Pamela Joyce Myers of Austin; one grandson, Michael Wayne Griffith of Fort Worth; one brother, Clyde Myers and wife, Sue of Lamar Point; three sisters, Audrey Smith of Lamar Point, Cora Smith and husband, Carlton of Brownsboro, Texas, and Brenda Robinson and husband, Frank of Blossom; 15 nephews; and 13 nieces.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Long, Jim Griffith, Lloyd Willard, Gary Thompson, Terry Myers, and Charles Myers. Honorary pallbearers are Dode Wheeler and C.L. Goble.
