Natalie Michie
Natalie Michie, 84, of Lubbock passed away Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, in Lubbock. She was born April 20, 1923, in Dry Creek, La., to the late Rufus Murphy and Mona Delphine (Robertson) Wyrick. She married
Troy W. Michie, Jr. Nov. 10, 1950, in Oklahoma City, Okla. Mr. Michie preceded her in death Sept. 17, 1992. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Rupert Wyrick in 1960 and a grandson, Damon Millis Nov. 19, 2002. She received her B.S. degree in chemistry from Oklahoma A&M; (now Oklahoma State) University, where she did research using one of the first electron microscopes in the U.S She worked as a chemist for Carter Oil company in Oklahoma and as a geology technician for Gulf Oil Company in New Orleans. Later, her husband formed Michie & Associates, an oil and gas consulting firm in New Orleans, where she later served as vice president. She moved to Lubbock in 1997 to be near her grandchildren.
Mrs. Michie is survived by two daughters, Paula Millis and her husband Nick of Lubbock and Sara Michie of Menlo Park, Calif. and three precious granddaughters, Jemina, Laryssa and AhnnaBeth Millis.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Sybil Homer Prickett
Sybil Homer Prickett, 84, of Lubbock passed away Friday, Aug. 31 2007, in Lubbock. She was born May 29, 1923, in Sagerton to the late Homer and Mae Belle Hudson. She grew up in Sagerton graduating from Sagerton High School. Later she attended South Plains College and graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelors Degree. She worked as a social worker and activity planner for individuals with special needs.
She was an avid reader, liked to sew and quilt. Granny was very devoted to her family and especially her five great-granddaughters.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving daughters: Billie McKinnon and Tommie Young of Lubbock; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Life Services will be Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Rev. Roy Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
The family wishes to express appreciation to Interim Health Care and Hospice staff, Highland Community Hospital Emergency Room and Nursing staff and Doctors Brogan, Vasandani and Vermillion and their staffs.
Marlin Brent McMenamy
The Lord called Marlin Brent McMenamy to his eternal home on Monday, Sept. 3, 2007. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after losing a battle with cancer.
Marlin was born in Lubbock, Texas to Elizabeth and Otis McMenamy Feb. 24, 1959. His family moved to Tucumcari, NM in 1960 where Marlin graduated from high school.
Marlin worked in construction with his last employment being in Kosovo for three years and in Iraq for one year with Brown and Root Construction.
Marlin is survived by a son and his fiance, Cris McMenamy and Sara Robertson of Shallowater; a daughter and her husband, Tina and Brady Neighbors of Lubbock and a second daughter, Lacey McMenamy of Shallowater. He is also survived by his parents, Otis and Elizabeth of Shallowater; a sister and her husband, Teresa and Ken Barbe of Roswell, NM, and a brother and his wife, Jerry and Denise McMenamy of Boynton Beach, FL; as well as two nieces and two nephews and his grandmother, Bonnie Ashmore of Lubbock; Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Lubbock or to a favorite charity.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007 in the First Baptist Church of Shallowater with Reverend Bruce Cotton and Rev. Gary Koerner officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7:30-9 p.m., Tuesday at Sanders Funeral Home.
Felis Moreno Garza
On Thursday, Aug. 31, 2007, Felis 'Felecia' Moreno Garza died at home surrounded by family. Felis was born May 2, 1935, in Lockhart, to Pedro and Virginia Moreno. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesus Garza Jr.; daughter, Juanita Garza; grandson, Israel Garza; and one brother and sister. She lived in Texas for most of her life.
She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church. She was a woman of great faith, wisdom and love for the family. Hospitality was her greatest quality. She was gentle, yet strong and courageous. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home. Visitation will also be from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3rd. A funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, with Father Gerard Kenney officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Survivors include twelve children: Irene Garza, Mary Ann Garza, Arthur Garza, Mary and Pete Mata, Yolanda and Joe Rodriguez, Flor and Isidor Moreno, Jimmy Garza, Sandra Flores and Nellie Baldwin, all of Lubbock; Josie and Paul Brigham of Naples, Fla.; Jessie and Sandra Garza of San Antonio; Raquel and Francisco Gonzalez of Dallas; and Ruben and Lena Garza of Midland. In addition, she leaves 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, all in Texas; two sisters, Tomasa Mendez of San Antonio and Gregoria Rodriguez of Lockhart; and a brother Robert Moreno of Lubbock.
Harold "Mutt" Jones
Harold "Mutt" Jones, of Idalou, passed away Sept. 3, 2007 at the age of 80. He was born Oct. 6, 1926 in Bonham, Texas to Earnest Jones and Hettie (Harrison) Jones. Mr. Jones attended school in Bonham, Texas. He moved to Idalou in 1948 after serving in the Army during WWII. He married
Joyce Ann Caffey on May 27, 1952 in Idalou. Mutt was a truck driver for Blue Flame Gas Company.
Mutt was an avid domino player and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Coffee and spending time with friends at the Dairy Queen was a daily ritual for him. Mutt held many fond memories of his working years and those he was associated with.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Joyce; one daughter, Cindy Kohutek of Ralls; one son, Johnny and wife, Bettie Jones of Dallas; three grandchildren, Jeremy Kohutek and wife, Laura, Erin Andrews and husband, Eric, and Nicolas Jones; one great grandchild, Ethan Andrews; two sisters, Ruby Kneggs of Greenville, Texas, and Rita Jo Melton of Lubbock.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Jack Jones, Earl Wayne Jones and R.L. "Sonny" Jones.
The family will greet friends Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007 from 9-10:30 a.m. at White Memorial Chapel in Idalou.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007 at the Idalou cemetery with John Reeves officiating.
The family requests memorials to the Idalou Church of Christ at 307 Chestnut, Idalou, Texas 79329.
Services are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Idalou.
Walther Mainz
Walther Mainz, resident of Ruidoso, NM, formerly of Lubbock, Texas, passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007 at the age of 69, after a six month battle with cancer. Walther, originally from Germany, met and married
Sharon Eves in Lubbock, where they lived until retirement. He enjoyed golfing with his friends, hiking and was an avid stamp collector. He was a good and kind man who was loved and respected by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Mainz (Eves) on July 8, 2005. He is survived by daughter Kim Brooks (Jeremy), their children Matthew and Alex, daughter Karin McCannon (Thomas) and their children, Christina and Sean. He has four brothers, Arvid, Udo, Rolf and Jurgen and their families, currently residing in Germany. He is also survived by dear friends Helmut and Camillia Wierzba.
Graveside service will be held Saturday Sept. 29, 2007 at Hondo Valley cemetery in Ruidoso, NM, arrangements per LaGrone Funeral Home.

Eddie Merrill Crawley
Eddie Merrill Crawley, 80, of Levelland passed away on Thursday, Aug. 3, following a battle with cancer. Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 6, 2007 in City of Levelland cemetery with Rev. Lee Weldon Stephenson, Levelland, officiating. Burial will be under direction of George Price Funeral Home.
He was born in Wellington, Texas, on Feb. 24, 1927, to E.C. and Ella Crawley. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1944, where he served as class president for three years. He attended Texas Tech University and began working for Levelland State Bank in 1947. He volunteered to serve in the navy during World War II, and served his country in Hawaii and in Guam. Following World War II, Crawley continued his service in Tokyo.
He married
Lou Ann Eatherley on Oct. 21, 1950. In 1958, he graduated from banking school at the University of Wisconsin. He served as an officer in the Levelland Chamber of Commerce, the Levelland Country Club, and Levelland State Bank. He headed the Cancer Crusade and Heart Fund in the 1950s. He retired from Levelland State Bank as Sr. Vice President in 1982. Crawley was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a Mason for more than 50 years.
Crawley loved to fish, play golf, and live life. He is preceded in death by a son, David Crawley. He is survived by his wife, Lou Ann Crawley; one son, Mark and wife, Deanna, of Carlsbad, N.M.; four grandchildren: Austin Crawley and wife, Elaine, of Levelland, Sarah Knutsen and husband, Ben, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Travis Crawley and wife, Denna, of Albuquerque, N.M., Nash Crawley of Levelland; and one great-grandson; Kaleb Crawley of Levelland, and one sister-in-law; Mary Beth Richmond, of Las Vegas, NV.
The family suggests memorials to Meals on Wheels, South Plains College Scholarship Foundation, in memory of Eddie Crawley, or to the American Cancer Society.
Lewis L. Walker
Lewis L. Walker of Blackwell was born Aug. 4, 1928, in Graham, to John and Malinda Walker. He died Aug. 5, 2007, at the age of 79.
He was the General Manager of grain elevators in Lehman and Roundup and Goodpasture Grain and Anderson Grain, both in Plains. He also farmed in Lehman.
He was preceded in death by both parents and one grandson, Elijah Hinkle.
He is survived by his wife, Viola of Blackwell; one son, Rob Walker and wife Elaine of Portales, N.M.; two daughters, Juanita Frazier and husband Dale of Plainview and Lori Walker of Coconut Beach, Fla.; four granddaughters, Malinda Sachse of Coconut Beach, Fla., Keisha Parrish and husband Dan of Alamogordo, N.M., D'Lane Frazier of Plainview, and Monica Walker of Portales, N.M.; two grandsons, Lewis L. Walker and wife Kristina of Midland and Cody Frazier of Plainview; two great-grandchildren, Jade and Jude Castillo of Plainview; and sister-in-law, Jimmie Stokes of Blackwell.
Services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at Blackwell Baptist Church in Blackwell, with Rev. Aubrey Jones officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Blackwell cemetery with McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater in charge of arrangements.
Lee Roy Spriggs, Jr.
Lee Roy Spriggs, Jr., age 55, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2003. He was born on September 20, 1947, in Crockett, TX, the son of Lee R. Spriggs, Sr. and Opal Tullis Spriggs. A lifelong resident of Boerne, he was a Veteran of the U. S. Army serving during Viet Nam. preceded in death by his Grandparents, Lee and Leona Spriggs as well as his Mother, Opal Treadway, Mr. Spriggs is survived by his Wife, Patsy Curtis Spriggs; Father and Step Mother, Lee R. Spriggs, Sr. and Lizzie Spriggs; Son, Bobby Spriggs; Daughter, Debbie Kay Spriggs Page and her husband, Jason; Step Son, Roy Lee Shook and his wife, Amanda; Step Daughter, Brenda Ann Shook; Grandchildren, Skyla Kay Page, Alexis Shook, and Hayden Shook; Brothers, Ricky Spriggs and his wife, Jean, David Spriggs, and Gary Spriggs; Sister, Denise; Aunt and Uncle, Eva and Alfred Newman; Many cousins, Numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 9, at 12:00 Noon at Vaughan's Funeral Home. The Graveside Service with Full Military Honors will also be on Wednesday, at 2:15 P.M. at Ft. Sam Houston National cemetery with Reverend John Kearney, officiating.
