Zephra Pope
Services for Zephra Pope, 95, of Abernathy, Texas, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, in the Abernathy First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike O'Donnell, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, Texas.
The family will receive friends at Abell Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday.
Mrs. Pope died at Abernathy's Golden Estates, Thursday morning, Aug. 30, 2007.
She was born Jan. 4, 1912 in Peacock, Texas to J. O. and Rosa Estella (Bearden) Robertson. She moved to the Plains of Texas in 1921 from Red Springs, Texas. She married
James Wesley Pope, SR on Dec. 24, 1936 in Abernathy, Texas, and he preceded her in death Jan. 10, 1993. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Pope in 1941, four sisters and a brother.
She is survived by two sons, Jimmy Pope and his wife Peggy of Possum Kingdom Lake, Texas and Robert Pope and his wife Gwyn of Abernathy, Texas; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, Johnny Robertson of Gainesville, Fla. and Hubert Robertson of Mt. Vernon, Texas; three sisters, Elouise Kinast of Abernathy, Texas, Dee Carr of Stallings, NC and Melva Downs of Pampa, Texas.

Dorothy Ree Boone
Dorothy Ree Boone, 75, of Lubbock died Aug. 29, 2007 at UMC. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses. Griffin Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Herman Boone of Lubbock; two daughters, Vera Karen Davis of Lubbock and Dana Maria Boone of Garland; one son, Van Herman Boone of San Clemente, Calif.; a grandson, Darren Murphy and a granddaughter, Sasha Davis, both of Lubbock; two brothers-in-law, Edward Lee Boone of Chicago, Ill. and Raymond Boone of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters-in-law, April Boone of San Clemente, Calif. and Pearl Boone of Chicago, Ill.; a host of other relatives in Oklahoma City, Okla. and an abundance of spiritual members and friends.
Edna Lile
Celebration of life services for Edna Lile, 85, of Wichita Falls, Texas will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007 at the Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home Chapel on Midwestern Parkway. Chuck Dennis, nephew, and Kevin Dickson, son-in-law will officiate. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home is in Charge of arrangements.
Family will receive friends at Lunn's Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 31, 2007. Edna passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007 in Lubbock, Texas. Edna was born on Sept. 15, 1921 in Wayne, Oklahoma to the late George W. and Bash (Billingsley) Ballard. After graduating from Wichita Falls High School in 1939, Edna then attended Draughon's Business College. She married
Forest Lynn Lile in Wichita Falls, Texas on April 14, 1953. They lived in Wichita Falls where they attended Edgemere and Faith Village Churches of Christ. Edna worked as the secretary to the U.S. Postmaster until the birth of her daughter, Sharon. She was a homemaker and actively involved in various programs at church. Her parents, George and Bash Ballard; her brother, Samuel Ballard; her husband, Lynn Lile; first husband, Roach Admire; niece, Sherry Sullivan; and nephew, Jason Barnes, preceded her in death.
Those left to cherish her memory are her family, including, her daughter; Sharon; son-in-law; Kevin; two grandsons, Sean and Eric, all of Lubbock, Dell Dennis; her sister of Wichita Falls; nieces, Karla Barnes of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma and Kitty Wall of Ft. Worth; a nephew, Chuck Dennis of Wichita Falls; and nine great nieces and nephews and 11 great-great nieces and nephews.

Nora Mae Lumpkin
A celebration of life service for Nora Mae Lumpkin, 87, of Lubbock will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock, with Dr. David L. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the City of Lubbock cemetery. Nora went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007. She died at home after a lengthy illness.
She was born Feb. 27, 1920, to J. J. and Leva Lee Weatherman, in Afton. Nora married
Jesse James "J.J." Lumpkin Sept. 24, 1939. Nora joined First Baptist Church Mission in Lubbock, which later became Southcrest Baptist Church, as a charter member in 1953. She volunteered in many Sunday school departments and vacation bible schools throughout the years. Nora retired with over 20 years of service to Lubbock Independent School Food Services in February 1985.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 49 years.
Survivors include a son, Jerry D. Lumpkin and wife Nyoka of Lubbock; a daughter, Nancy Rawls and husband Wayne of Lubbock; and grandsons, Dale Ray Lumpkin of Carrollton and Kyle and Lance Rawls of Lubbock. She is also survived by a sister, Martha Christy of Big Spring; a brother, Joe Weatherman of Brownfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nora will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her sweet and loving spirit will be remembered by all.
The family would like to thank mom's doctors and all the caregivers at Covenant Hospital CCU and the nurses and staff with Hospice of Lubbock for the loving care they gave.
Family visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, from 5:30-7 p.m., at Rix Funeral Home, 1901 Broadway in Lubbock.

James Donald Grenia
James Donald Grenia, age 72, of Boerne, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2003. He was born January 28, 1931, in Bismarck, Missouri, a son of George Christopher and Alene Matkin Grenia. He was married
August 15, 1954, in Flat River (now Park Hills), Missouri to Hannah Ellis Grenia, daughter of Rev. E. C. and Christine Ellis. An Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a graduate of Bismarck High School. He received a B. S. Degree from the Missouri School of Mines (now known as the University of Missouri at Rolla, Missouri) and continued with Graduate courses there as well as The Colorado School of Mines. After graduation, he joined the staff at The Missouri Geologic Survey in Rolla, Missouri. He later joined the American Smelting and Refining Company, developing a mineral deposit at West Fork, Missouri, and supervising exploration work in Tennessee and North Carolina. James joined American Metals Company in Salem, Missouri in 1967. He helped develop and bring into production the near-by Buick Mine which produced 2, 000, 000 tons of ore annually while he was Mine Superintendent there. In 1975 James joined the Bechtel Company in San Francisco as a Consulting Engineer, doing mine design and consulting in the United States and abroad. The remainder of his working years were spent in Engineering and Mining Management. He developed multiple patents and publications in these fields. Before retiring from Parsons, Brinckerhoff, Quade and Douglas in 1995, he supervised 84 multi-disciplined Engineers in the current design of The Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Project at the Nevada Test site, north of Las Vegas. Construction completion of the project is the year 2010. He is a Fellow and Chartered Engineer in The Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, London, England. He was a past member of the American Institute of Mining Engineers, and guest speaker at their annual conventions, a past president of Rotary International, and a member of the Kirk of the Pines Presbyterian Church in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Survivors include his wife, Hannah Grenia; One son, James E. Grenia and his wife, Susan of Boerne, Texas; Daughter, Cynthia Hyden of Billings, Montana; Two Granddaughters, Sarah and Samantha Grenia and One Grandson, James Gerald Grenia, all of Boerne, Texas. A private Memorial Service was held on Saturday, June 7, with Rev. Kyle Roehrig, Officiating.
Robert Lee Veach
Robert Lee Veach, 82, of Lubbock passed away Friday, Aug. 31, 2007.
Mr. Veach was born May 5, 1925, in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, to the late Harold and Edith (Wagner) Veach. He married
Myrtle Quimby Jan. 6, 1954, in Seattle, Wash. Mrs. Veach preceded him in death Jan. 27, 2007.
Mr. Veach served our country in the U.S. Navy retiring as a Chief Petty Officer after a 20 year career. Mr. Veach served in three wars: WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. His last tour of duty was as a sonarman on a helicopter that flew off the USS Kearsarge conducting anti-submarine warfare missions. He also was a civilian instructor for the U.S. Army.
He moved to Lubbock in 1982 to be near family. He liked to travel, watch college football, and play the organ. He especially enjoyed family and family gatherings where he was the "chief cook" at the grill. He was a member of VFW.
Mr.Veach is preceded in death by his twin brother, Roy.
Those left to cherish Mr. Veach's memory are his children, Jack Veach of El Paso, Bob Veach of Lubbock and Marilee Hendrick of Oakville, Wash.; five grandsons; two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. He was also very fond of his pet cat, Perky. There will be a memorial service for Mr. Veach at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel, with Rev. Steve Doles officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Inc., 3308 - 95th Street, Lubbock 79423.
Alex Toth
Alex Toth, age 86, a resident of Boerne since 1955, passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2002. He was born July 1, 1916, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Andrew G. and Helen Horvath Toth. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Sgt. Toth served during World War II. He married
Lorraine Darnell on April 16, 1949, and she survives. He worked at Kelly Field and retired after 35 years of service. preceded in death by his parents and sister, Helen Gunga, Mr. Toth, in addition to his wife, is survived by Daughters, Elizabeth Eckles and her husband, Steven, and Marilyn Toth; Sons, Thomas Toth, Lawrence Toth and his wife, Amy, and Bruce W. Toth; Six Grandchildren; One Great Granddaughter; Brothers, Fred Toth and his wife, Virginia, James Toth and his wife, Nada, Joe Toth, and Steve Toth and his wife, Laura. Visitation was held on Thursday, Nov. 21, before the Funeral Service which began at 10:00 A.M. Refreshments and fellowship followed the service. The Graveside Service with Military Honors was at 2:15 P.M. on Thursday, Nov. 21, at Ft. Sam Houston National cemetery. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Vaughan’s Funeral Home of Boerne.
Marie Bailey Jones
Marie Bailey Jones, 86, of Lubbock passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, in a local hospital.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, in Mount Olivet Chapel, Fort Worth. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet cemetery.
Marie was born Jan. 11, 1921, in Faxon, Okla., to Onie Maggie and Willie Woodfer Bailey. She worked in real estate. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy G. Jones; sister, Leona Ackers; and brother, Delbert Bailey.
Survivors include her son, Billy Jones and wife Tina of Dallas; granddaughter, Sarah Jones of Dallas; brothers, Denzil Bailey of Lubbock, Carroll Bailey and wife, Joyce of Lubbock, and Lindle Bailey of Los Angeles, Calif.; sisters, Wilma McCorckle and husband Doyce of Hale Center and Lela Adams of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brother-in-law, Larry Ackers of Lubbock; sister-in-law, Gene Bailey of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bettie Fay Tankersley
Bettie Fay Tankersley, 69, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2007, in Fort Worth.
Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Terry County Memorial cemetery in Brownfield. Honorary Pallbearers are Jim "Jigger" Tankersley, Joe Don George, Charlie George, Ralph and Jim Dildine.

Bettie was born Jan. 12, 1938, in Brownfield, but lived in Lubbock most of her adult life. She moved to Fort Worth in May 2005. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard.
Survivors include her sons, Billy and Mike; grandchildren, Kristyne, Ethan, Alexis, Adam, Landon, Avrey, Allye, Kameron, and Seth; and great-grandchild, Kyla.

Memorial services will be held for A.F. (Frank) Sanders at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, at First Baptist Church, in Anton.
