She was baptized at First Baptist Church in Stratford and met her future Husband, Danny Barrett in first grade at Mary Allen Elementary, though they didn’t officially fall in love until their Senior year in 1984.
After attending West Texas State University together Nannette and Danny married
on August 22, 1986 and moved to Lubbock where they attended Texas Tech University and became Red Raiders! Nannette was a joy and inspiration to everyone who had the opportunity to meet her. Nan taught preschool and Sunday School, sang in the choir at Bacon Heights Baptist Church where she reflected her love for the Lord and life all her days. Her fondest years were spent teaching preschool and 2nd grade classes at Trinity Christian School where she formed everlasting relationships with teachers, students, and parents alike. She loved her church, Bacon Heights and the people there who have loved her as one of their own. Her greatest joy was her children, Brooks and Baylee, whom she loved with all of her heart. Brooks’ inherited her peacefulness and gentleness and Baylee, her determination and love for singing.
Nan fought a life-long battle with Cancer and kicked its tail for 27 years before escaping its grasp into the hands of the Father. Cancer never defeated her. The amazing strength and unfailing faith she displayed through was more than admirable. Nannette was awarded the American Cancer Society’s Courage Award for the State of Texas in 2003.
