Billy Mungia
Prayer Services for Billy Mungia, 48, of Lubbock will be 7 p.m. today at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel in Lubbock. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at Church of the Blessed, located at 1809 34th Street, with Rev. Johnny Perez officiating. Burial will be at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home.
Billy died peacefully on Oct. 24, 2007. He was born Sept. 3, 1959, to the late Cristobal (2002) and Margarita Mungia (1998), in Winters. He married
Mary Bell Munoz in 1981, and worked for the family owned business of Mungia Roofing. He was a Christian.
He is preceded in death by four brothers, Lee Mungia in 2005, Chris Mungia in 2004, Ray Mungia in 2000, Stoney Mungia in 1982, and a sister, Virginia Mungia in 1996.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Bell Mungia of Lubbock; two sons, Micky and Stoney of Lubbock; four brothers, Roy, Abaristo, Arturo, and Julian Mungia, all of Lubbock; six sisters, Hope Rivera of Greenville, Margie Ortiz, Olivia, Sandy, Ruthy, and Amy Mungia, all of Lubbock; and a host of nephews and nieces.
Florence May Cowherd Nunnally
Florence May Cowherd Nunnally passed from this life to a better place on Oct. 26, 2007.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Gail cemetery in Borden County, with Mark Hackett officiating under the direction of Brannon Funeral Home in Lamesa.
She was born in El Paso on Christmas Day in 1916. She attended Texas School of Mines, graduating with a teaching degree in 1938 and taught in El Paso schools. Florence married
Charles C. Nunnally on Valentines Day, Feb. 14, 1943, while Charles was stationed at Ft. Bliss during WWII. Charles and Florence Nunnally moved to Lamesa in 1945, where sons Don and Bill Nunnally were born.
Florence and family moved to Borden County in 1949 where she taught school for several terms, served as Cub Scout den mother, and changed from a city girl to a country girl. She loved Borden County and the family she helped raise in the country. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, on Oct. 26, 1999. Florence was a member of the Lamesa Church of Christ.
She is survived by two sons, William Nunnally of Columbia, Mo. and Don Nunnally of Carrolton; three grandsons, Cal Nunnally of Dallas, Clif Nunnally of Galveston, and Clay Nunnally of Columbia, Mo.; one granddaughter, Sarah Nunnally Scott of Roswell, N.M.; and two great-granddaughters, Samantha and Ashley, also of Roswell, N.M.
Tiburcia Solis
Funeral services for Tiburcia Solis, 96, of Lubbock will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at Sanders Memorial Chapel, with Roy Velez officiating.
Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
Tiburcia passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007.
She was born Aug. 11, 1911, in Salinas, Victoria N.L., to Librado and Juantia Serrano. She married
Alberto Solis in 1926. Tiburcia was a homemaker for her 15 children. She was a very hard worker; a strict, devoted mother who provided the most important thing for her children, love. She dearly loved making trips to Las Vegas. Her most recent trip was last November, but she still looked forward to this November for her next trip with her family.
She is survived by her children, Tere Palomo, Fidel Solis, Josefina Hernandez, Martha Mendez, Olivia Canamar, Odilia Solis, Elvira English, Alberto Solis, Grace Bridgewater, Jose Luis Solis, Jesus Solis, Juanita Olivares, Pedro Luciano Solis, Mario Solis, and Marina Solis; brother, Sostenes Rodriguez; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Her husband and two daughters preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends at Sanders Funeral Home today from 7 until 9 p.m.
Rose Marie Stone Mabry
Rose Marie Stone Mabry, 62, of Lubbock died Oct. 24, 2007. Memorial services will be held Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, at First Christian Church, with Dr. Passmore officiating at 11 a.m.
Rose was born in Bonham. She moved to Lubbock in 1950 and later attended Monterey High School. In 1963 she got married
and moved to Friona, where they farmed for a number of years. She returned to Lubbock in 1978. She retired from Lubbock County Tax Office and Concho Resources.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Olan Stone and Ruby Jewel Morgan Stone.
Survivors include son, Christy Mabry of Lubbock; daughter, Cayla and husband Darryl Smith, and three grandchildren, Summer, Derrick and Matthew, all of White Deer; three sisters, Nicky Burdick and Fonda Tate, both of Lubbock, and Sherri Stone of Abilene; two nieces and two nephews.
Jimmy Scott Taylor
Jimmy Scott Taylor, 49, of Lubbock, passed away Oct. 25, 2007. He was born Aug. 31, 1958, in Owensboro, Ky. In 1959 Jimmy came to Lubbock, which he considered his hometown. After graduating from Coronado High School in 1977, he was employed by W&W; Steel Company in Lubbock as a Rebar Detailer for 30 years. The love of his life was baseball and he was a true cowboy at heart. Jimmy was an Umpire Coordinator for Midwest Little League for 12 years. He umpired and coached Little League teams for 16 years, which included the teams of his son and nephews. Jimmy was also an avid bowler. He was an all-around sports fan and was a great competitor and teammate. Jimmy was a truly devoted Texas Longhorn fan and successfully recruited all but one of his nephews to join his passion for the Longhorns. Jimmy loved his family immensely- he was a family man and would do anything for anyone.
He is survived by his loving fiancÈe, Kerrie Graham; a son, Joshua Taylor and wife Brittny; a granddaughter, Syndee Taylor; mother, Gracie Kolb; father, John Kolb; a brother, Phillip Taylor and wife Loretta of Elgin; three sisters, Sherry Drake and husband James, Dawn Buford and husband Chris, and Rosie Clevenger and husband Gary, all of Lubbock; seven nephews; seven nieces; two great-nephews; five great-nieces; five uncles; five aunts; numerous cousins; and many, many friends.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, in The Cowboy Church, 114th Street, east of the Tahoka Highway (I -27), under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors, with interment following at Resthaven.
Mary E. Waller
Mary E. Waller, 69, of Lubbock, went to be with her Lord on Oct. 25, 2007. Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at First Church of the Nazarene, with Dr. Curtis Sellers officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Mary was born in Waverly, Kan. on July 22, 1938, to Clifton and Faythe (Brandt) Waller. She graduated from Nampa High School, in Nampa, Idaho, in 1956. She attended Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa and graduated in 1960 with a BA in English. She then attended Texas Tech University where she received her Master's of Education degree. She was on the tennis team in college at Northwestern Nazarene University.
Mary taught girls' PE and English at O.L. Slaton Junior High School, and also taught English at J.T. Hutchinson Junior High. She retired in 1994 after teaching for 34 years. Mary loved to travel, play golf, and work with her hands doing cross-stitch.
Mary did mission work and went on mission trips through her church, First Church of the Nazarene. She served as local treasurer for Nazarene Missions International.
Mary is survived by a sister, Betty Waller of Boise, Idaho; her long time friend and roommate of 48 years, Evelyn Gray of Lubbock; and her extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Marie Allison
Funeral services for Marie Allison will be 2 p.m. Nov. 2nd, in Rix Chapel, Broadway.
Marie worked for Smithlawn Home, where memorials may be directed (Box 6451, 79493). She often crocheted blankets for shut-ins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, "Doug" and her son James Samuel. Survivors include a daughter, Gale Rogers; a granddaughter, Stacey Piesche; two grandchildren, Kelley and Marcus Barker; two brothers, two sisters, and their families.
Martha Cates Beasley
Martha (Marcie) Cates Beasley, 62, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, from complications of a chronic illness. Marcie was a lifelong resident of Lubbock. She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1963. She attended Texas Tech University, graduating in 1967 with a degree in history.
She was as an active member of First Baptist Church, Texas Tech Chancellor's Council, and the Junior League of Lubbock as well as many other civic, service and professional organizations. She served as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Kent Hance Campaign for 12 years and for the John T. Montford Campaign. In 1986, she was a founding member of the Lubbock Science Spectrum. In 1990, she began her career in education working for Lubbock Independent School District. In 1996, she returned to Texas Tech under then chancellor John T. Montford as the Executive Director of the Chancellor's Council and Special Events. She served in that capacity for nine years, completing her tenure with Texas Tech working for her friend, Kent Hance.
Marcie loved God, her family, and life. She was proud to have lived a full life, helping those in need. Through the course of her illness, the outpouring of prayers and support from her friends served as a testimony to the love and support she gave, unselfishly, to others.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen Beasley of Lubbock; her mother, Alta Cates of Lubbock; her sister, Alta Ada Williams; her son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Joe and Carrie Johnston, of San Antonio; and her daughter, Carol Johnston, of Lubbock; and two granddaughters, Olivia Read and Julia Cates Johnston.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, at 10 a.m., at First Baptist Church, Lubbock.

Tony Francis "Big Baker"
Tony Francis "Big Baker", 40, of Big Spring, formerly of Lubbock died Oct. 24, 2007 at his residence. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007 at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Burial will be in the City of Lubbock cemetery, under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
Ledru F. (Jake) Jacobs
Ledru F. (Jake) Jacobs, 85, of Denver passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, from complications from a hip fracture in August. The seventh of eight children, he was born Sept. 2, 1922, in Elmwood, Okla., to Albert Leroy Jacobs and Viola Adams Jacobs. Mr. Jacobs attended schools in Spearman, graduating in May of 1940. He then went to West Texas State. Mr. Jacobs entered the army in 1943, serving in the Military Police as a part of the occupying forces in the Philippines and Japan. After the war, he returned to West Texas State, meeting and marrying Patricia Hill of Tahoka. Mr. Jacobs graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He received his Master's Degree in Education from Texas Tech in 1952.
Mr. Jacobs played basketball for the West Texas State Buffaloes as a part of the "tallest team in the Land". Their picture appeared on the cover of Look Magazine in January 1942 after they played in the NIT finals in Madison Square Garden in New York. After graduation from WTS, he moved to Tahoka, coached basketball, and was the athletic director from 1947-1966. Mr. Jacobs was also the principal of Tubb (North) Elementary School until 1966. In that year, he moved to Bovina to become their high school principal. He became the Superintendent of Schools in Bovina and Wilson. In 1981, Mr. Jacobs retired and moved to Lake City, Colo., where he served as the County Administrator of Hinsdale County. Mr. Jacobs and his wife moved to Parker, Colo. in 1991, where they both lived until recently, when Mr. Jacobs moved to an independent living facility.
The Texas Roundup Association acknowledged Mr. Jacobs in 1958 by awarding him the title of "Coach of the Year" for Texas High School Basketball, recognizing his contribution to the high ideals of true sportsmanship and in appreciation of his outstanding achievement. He maintained memberships at the First Methodist Church in Tahoka and Wilson and at the First Presbyterian Church in Lake City, Colo.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; three daughters, Vicki Taylor of Albuquerque, N.M., Becky Ferguson of Conifer, Colo., and Fran DuBose of San Antonio; one brother, Jerry Jacobs of Gonzales; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church of Tahoka, with Gordon Smith and Vernon Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Nevels cemetery in Tahoka.
The family requests that memorials be made to Holly Heights Nursing Center, care of Monty Yeo - Activities Director, 6000 East Iliff, Denver, CO, 80222 or to the Jake Jacobs Scholarship Fund for Outstanding Sportsmanship at 516 N. School Street, Boerne, Texas 78006.
