Jeremy Quisenberry Billings
Jeremy Quisenberry Billings, age 20, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007.
Jeremy was born on Feb. 24, 1987, in Andrews, and attended schools in Seagraves, where he lived most of his life and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He graduated from Seagraves High School in 2005. He was active in agriculture and was President of the FFA and won many awards for his showmanship and judging of farm animals. He received the Top Hand Award and the Greenhand Award in FFA, and was Senior Sheep Feeder of the year. He was also in football and the National Honor Society and listed in Who's Who in American High Schools for his scholastics achievements.
He worked as a farmer in Gaines County since high school.
Jeremy is survived by his parents, Danny and Julie Billings of Seagraves, and Dennis Quisenberry of Seminole; one sister, Danlee Jo Billings of Seagraves; and grandparents, Tommy and Joan Billings of Seagraves and James and Sandra Wright of Seminole.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Daniel and LaQuita Nelson of Seminole and Wilburn Quisenberry of Denver City.
A celebration of Jeremy's life will be held at First Baptist Church in Seagraves on Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Dustin McEwen officiating and Pastor Ovidio Martinez, Jr. assisting.
Special seating and honors will be provided for the 2005 Seagraves Senior Class.
Burial will follow in the Gaines County cemetery in Seagraves under the direction of Mark A Jones Funeral Directors of Sea-graves.

Thelma Wilson
Thelma Wilson, 86, of Keller, Texas passed away Oct. 17, 2007. Wake services will be Wednesday, Oct. 24, from 7:15-8:15 p.m. at Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas, 4155 S.R.L. Thornton. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1907 E. 13th, Lubbock, TX.
She is survived by one son, six daughters, 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, one sister, Jessie Grice of Lubbock and a host of other relatives and friends.
Laura Lucy "Lou" Sossaman
Laura Lucy "Lou" Sossaman, 86, of Denver City, passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2007 in Lubbock.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Brother Bob Fred officiating. Interment will follow in the Denver City Memorial Park with services under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.
Lou was born Aug. 6, 1921 in Gatesville to Henry Willis and Mackie Jane Baxter. She married
Melvin L. Sossaman in Fredricks, Okla. on Sept. 18, 1953. Lou lived in Denver City since 1950, was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Feb. 9, 2004, and also seven brothers.
She is survived by her son, Alton L. Sossaman and wife, Joanne, of Brenham; a daughter, Cheryl Tipton and husband, Joe, of Denver City; a sister, Ollie James of Denver City; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, the Cancer Society or Nurse Care of Lubbock.
Visitation will be Wednesday Oct. 24th from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Ratliff Chapel.
Larry Alvin Elms
Larry Alvin Elms was born Jan. 1, 1945 in Walla Walla, Washington. He grew up in Silverton, Texas and married
Lynn Robertson of Abilene, Texas in 1975. He is survived by his wife, Lynn of Lubbock; son, Jonathan of Lubbock; son, Zachary and wife Ashley of Frisco; and daughter Cassidy of Norman, Oklahoma.
He graduated West Texas State University in 1966 with a B.S. in Math and Political Science, and he went on to receive an M.A. in Political Science in 1968. He graduated from the University of Houston Law School, was admitted to the bar and began practicing law in Lubbock in 1972. Larry was President of the Lubbock Lions Club in 1983. He was active in the United Way; Lubbock County Bar and Texas Bar Association and Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association; Contact Lubbock Board; Masons; Shriners; Scottish Rite; Past President of Goodwill Board; Christian Life Commission of Texas Baptist; Midwest Little League; Chairman of Trustees, First Baptist Church of Lubbock; Life Fellow of Texas Bar Foundation; a Melvin Jones Fellow of Lions Club International Foundation; and he is a member of the 34th Street Association. He taught Real Estate Law and Business Law for South Plains College; taught Political Science at WTSU and Sam Houston State University and taught Survey Law for the Civil Engineering Department at Texas Tech University from 1996 to 2006.
He enjoyed being a deacon at First Baptist Church of Lubbock, and working on his farm in Silverton. He loved singing and is known for singing "That Lucky Ole Sun." He was an avid Texas Tech athletic fan who held season tickets to the basketball games. He enjoyed domino night with his Sunday school class where he could be found eating brownies with peanut butter.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Littlefield Memorial Park with a memorial service to follow at 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Lubbock with Rev. Bobby Dagnal, Rev. Dr. James M. Dunn and Rev. John Ballard officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-7:30 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.

Marsa Swope Porter
Marsa Swope Porter, 74, of Lubbock died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, after a brief illness.
Marsa was born March 8, 1933, in Wilson, to Chester and Thelma Swope. Marsa graduated from Wilson High school in 1950 and attended Texas Tech University. Marsa married
Jim Porter on Aug. 22, 1954, in Slaton. She taught in Slaton ISD for a short time, after which she was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother. She was a 50 year member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and LakeRidge United Methodist Church.
Her parents and brother, Jerry Swope, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Jim of Lubbock; daughters, Pam K. Porter of Carrollton and Marinda Heinrich and husband Doug of Lubbock; a son, Richard Mark Porter and wife Janis of Lubbock; and two grandchildren, Holden and Madison Heinrich.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, in Lakeridge United Methodist Church, with Rev. Bill Couch officiating. Interment will be in Slaton's Englewood cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service in Slaton.
Martin K. Skinner
Graveside services for Martin K. Skinner, 36, of Glendale, Ariz., will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, at Resthaven Memorial Park, with Deacon Randy Canale officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends Monday afternoon, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Martin passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, in Glendale, Ariz.
He was born in Lubbock Nov. 24, 1970. Martin graduated from Dunbar High School in Lubbock and also completed an Architectural Design and Drafting Program at Phoenix Institute of Technology. He was employed by Fry's Grocery and Deli in Glendale as a manager supervisor.
Martin is survived by his wife, Michelle and their son, Jared; children, Michael, Marcus, Jade, Peyton, and Justin; parents, Charles and Carol Skinner; sisters, Dawn (Loren) Taylor and Deborah (Tracy) Nichols; and nephews, Cory and Christopher Nichols, all of Lubbock.
Mary Loree Franklin
Mrs. Mary Loree Franklin of Lubbock passed away, Oct. 11, 2007. She was born April 6, 1919 in Wastella, Texas to Alfred Barnes and Loree Frances "Turner" Franklin. Loree "Snooks" attended grammar school in Wells and high school in O'Donnell. She attended Jessie Lees Beauty College and also received nurses training. Mrs. Franklin moved to Lubbock in 1967 from Ralls. She married
D.A. Franklin in Lamesa, July 21, 1936. Loree was a homemaker, active in Eastern Star, served as Worthy Matron at the Tahoka Chapter from 1959-1960; she was also previously a member of the O'Donnell and Ralls Chapters. Mrs. Franklin was a member of Highland Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish her memories are: son Jacky Bill Franklin and wife Kim of Houston; five grandchildren, Travis Mitchell Franklin, Cindy Cameron and husband Rob, Tommy Wayne Franklin, Stanley Franklin, Desiree Best and husband Jonathon; eight great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Mrs. Franklin was preceded in death by her parents, her husband D.A. in 2001, son Tommy in 1998 and daughter Patty in 1948.
The family will greet friends from 6 -8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 15, 2007 at the White Funeral Home in Lubbock.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007 at the Highland Baptist Church in Lubbock with Dr. Stan Blevins officiating. Interment will follow in the O'Donnell cemetery.
Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.
Allene Rogers Woodward
Church services for Allene Rogers Woodward, age 85, of Littlefield, is scheduled for 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 15, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church, Littlefield with Pastor Sharon Wiese of Littlefield officiating.
Burial will be in Littlefield Memorial Park cemetery, Littlefield, Texas.
Allene passed away from this world peacefully in her sleep on Oct. 10, 2007 in her residence in Littlefield. She was born Aug. 21, 1922 in Childress, Texas. She married
Horace Warren Woodward in Sudan, Texas on Feb. 26, 1959. Allene was preceded in death by her parents, H.E. and Cora Chinn Rogers, her husband, Horace Woodward and two brothers.
Allene has lived in Littlefield since 1964, moving from Amherst. She also lived in Sudan from 1959 until 1964. She worked as a secretary for the County Judge in Lamb County. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter # 742 in Littlefield. Allene was a great inspiration to Gary for his appreciation to fine classical music.
Survivors include four sons and two daughters-in-law, Roger and Emily Hunter of Corpus Christi, Bill and Judy Hunter of Gainesville, James F. Hunter of Fort Worth, and Gary Woodward of Littlefield. She is also survived by seven grandsons, seven great grandchildren; two nephews, Richard Rogers of League City, Texas and Clinton Rogers of Muleshoe, and numerous cousins.
