Lorena Branch Wilson

Mrs. Lorena Branch Wilson, age 95, passed away on October 20, 2007, in Northern Virginia. She is survived by her son Philip W. Wilson of North Carolina and her daughter Sharon L Pacena of Texas. A viewing will be held at Rix Funeral Directors in Lubbock on Thursday the 25th from 4:30 to 6 p.m., followed by a graveside service at the City of Lubbock cemetery on Friday the 26th at 12:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oakwood Baptist Church, 6002 Avenue U, Lubbock, TX 79412.

Janet Jones Snyder

Memorial services to celebrate the life of Jan Snyder will be 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, in First United Methodist Church's Bowman's Chapel, with Dr. Keith Wiseman officiating. A visitation will be held from 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. today, the 25th, at Rix Funeral Directors, 1901 Broadway.

Janet Randall was born Dec. 31, 1953, in Lubbock, to Randall and Nora Beatrice (Spivey) Jones. After graduating from Coronado High School in 1972, Jan attended Texas Tech and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Methodist School of Nursing. She worked for Methodist Hospital and later for Lubbock Radiology Associates. Jan was active in the planning of her 30th High School Reunion for CHS. She loved to read and make art and crafts.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her son, Martin Paul Snyder II, wife Tiffany, and Jan's grandson, Holden James; her daughter, Casey Garcia and husband Cristian; and her brother, Greg Jones.

Memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels, 2304 34th St., 79411.

Cynthia Denise Poole

Cynthia Denise Poole, 51, of Levelland, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at First United Methodist Church of Levelland. Burial will be in Goodlett cemetery, in Goodlett, under direction of George Price Funeral Home.

Cynthia was born Aug. 24, 1956, in Fort Worth, to Robert and Jane Hall. She graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1976 and then received her Bachelor's degree from New Mexico State University. Cynthia was employed with USDA-NRCS. She worked in Portales, N.M., Plains, Aspermont, and Levelland. Cynthia enjoyed classic movies, visiting and shopping with her five sisters-in law. She loved watching her children play sports and the many other activities they participated in. She was a devoted booster of the Levelland High School Tennis Team. She was active in the Eastern Star and Las Fidelis Study Club and enjoyed being a part of her ladies' clubs.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry; her daughters, Audra Ellis of Lubbock and Gretta Poole of the home; her mother, Jane Hall of Lubbock; and her brother, Michael Hall of Las Cruces, N.M.

John E. Moore, Jr.

John E. Moore, Jr., 85, of Abilene, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Friday at Wylie Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, Texas.

J.E. was born in Abilene on Nov. 16, 1921. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. J.E. married Imogene Cox April 5, 1946 in Yuma, Ariz. He taught Ag at Wylie High School from 1956 until 1989. Mr. Moore was a very active member of Wylie Baptist Church in Abilene.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters, his step-mother, and a son-in-law. J.E. is survived by his wife, Imogene Moore of Abilene; one son, Keith (B.J.) Moore of Lubbock; one daughter, Carolyn (John) Sims of Abilene; one brother, two sisters, four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made in honor of J.E. Moore to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory Street, Abilene, Texas 79601 or to the Wylie Baptist Church Building Fund, 6097 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas 79606.

Sammy Randall McWhorter

Sammy Randall McWhorter, 69, of Idalou passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2007. He was born May 19, 1938, in Lubbock, to Samuel Edward McWhorter and Cora Bourlon. Mr. McWhorter married DeeAnn Chapman on Nov. 30, 1963, in Lorenzo. Together they had one son, Kevin Randall McWhorter. DeeAnn preceded her husband in death on Sept. 12, 2003.

Mr. McWhorter worked as a park supervisor, at the Lubbock State School, and at Resthaven cemetery, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the American Business Club and the First Baptist Church of Idalou.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Kevin and wife Margreet of The Netherlands; his sister, Sharon McWhorter of Lubbock; and his grandson, Merric.

The family will greet friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at White Funeral Home in Idalou.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at the Resthaven Memorial Park, with Rev. Alan Berry officiating.

The family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Idalou at 102 East 7th Street, Idalou, Texas 79329.

Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Idalou.

Gayle Dean Gafford

Gayle Dean Gafford, 61, of Lubbock, passed away Oct. 22, 2007. Funeral services will take place 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at the Lubbock Bible Church, with Andrew Farley officiating. Burial will follow in the Terry County Memorial Park, in Brownfield, under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Visitation will be held today, Oct. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Mr. Gafford was born Oct. 9, 1946, in Brownfield, to parents Bernadene (Gresham) and J.C. Gafford. He grew up in Brownfield, where he graduated from high school. He then entered the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam, where he suffered injuries and was awarded two Purple Hearts. Following honorable discharge, he attended the University of Texas at Arlington and graduated with a B.A. Degree in Business. He then worked in real estate and later as a tax appraiser for Hockley County. In 1988, he began working as a rural carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, a position he continued in until the time of his death. He loved coaching soccer and basketball, was an avid reader, and enjoyed studying religion.

Survivors include his mother, Bernadene Haywood; his wife, Norma Gafford; two daughters, Michelle and husband Matthew Moorhead and Melissa Gafford; four grandchildren, Shana, Ian, and Keldan Moorhead and Kyson Gafford; and a brother, Mike and wife Stella Gafford.

Noemi A. Carrillo

Funeral services for Noemi A. Carrillo, 55, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007 at Guajardo Funeral Chapels with Pastor Elias Garcia II officiating.

Wake Service will be on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007 at 7 p.m. at Guajardo Funeral Chapels. Burial will be at Peaceful Gardens cemetery under the direction of Guajardo Funeral Chapels.

She died on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007 at Carillon Nursing home.

She was born on May 27, 1952 in San Salvador, El Salvador. She married Juan B. Carrillo on Jan. 15, 1986 in Lubbock, Texas.

Survivors include her husband Juan B. Carrillo; sons, Jose Americo Rovelo, Isaiah Carrillo and Obadiah Carrillo; daughters, Claudia Lizeth Shelley of Portland, Oregon, Hannah Leah Rachel Carrillo of Lubbock; mother, Rosa E. Sequeira; sisters, Rosa Morgan of Dallas, Christina Alvayero of El Salvador and four grandchildren.

Robert Wayne Bednarz

Robert Wayne Bednarz, 59, of Lubbock, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007.

Wayne was born April 26, 1948, in Littlefield, to the late Alvin A. and Helen (Meurer) Bednarz.

Wayne served our country as an M. P. in the Air Force from 1967 to 1971. There will be military honors at the graveside. He was a member of the VFW.

Those left to cherish his memory include Betty Lou Ralph and her children, Lisa Burns and her daughter Blake; Greg Ralph and wife Simone, and their children Kelsey and Hattie; and David Ralph and wife Jennifer. He is also survived by three sons, Jeremy and Bryan Bednarz, and Nathan and wife Kelly Bednarz; granddaughters, Grace and Kate; three brothers, Royce and wife Catherine, Donald and wife Patti, and Kenneth Bednarz; and two sisters, Mary Etta and husband Gene Ehler and Shirley and husband Mike Moerbe.

Services for Wayne will be at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Rosary will be said this evening at 7 p.m. at Abbey Chapel.
