Reverend Raymond P. Wolfe

Reverend Raymond P. Wolfe, 86, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007. Memorial services will be Friday, Dec. 28th in St. Luke's United Methodist Church, at 2 p.m. Rev. John Ballard, his long time friend, will officiate. There will be a viewing at Rix Funeral Directors on Broadway, Thursday, the 27th, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Rev. Wolfe married Beuna Cox Jan. 26, 1943, in their hometown of Clarksburg, W.V. They had four children. Their two sons, Rick Wolfe and Ron Wolfe, and daughter, Nodji Riley, live in Lubbock. Their son Tim Wolfe lives in Phil Campbell, Ala. They have nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Rev. Wolfe was born Nov. 22, 1921, in Clarksburg, to Raymond and Estella Wolfe and was the fourth of their 13 children. He graduated from Roosevelt-Wilson High School.

During World War II, Raymond served in the United States Coast Guard. Following World War II, he graduated from Nyack College in Nyack, N.Y., where received his Bachelor of Theology degree.

Rev. Wolfe pastored churches in Bartlesville and Tulsa, Okla.; Van Buren, Ark.; and Harlingen, Fort Worth, Happy, and Amarillo. He served as Chaplain of Methodist (Covenant) Hospital in Lubbock for 20 years. At the time of his death, he was still serving as Chaplain for Carillon Life Care Community, and had done so for the last 25 years.

Rev. Wolfe's kindness, loving spirit, and thoughtfulness endeared him to many in the Lubbock community. He was named Lubbock Caregiver of the Year in 1991. He was co-founder of SHARE, an organization formed to provide support for parents who had lost a child. He was also instrumental in starting the Organ Bank in Lubbock.

His middle name was Paul and, like the apostle Paul, he could say, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness."

Belinda Jones

Belinda Ellis Winton Jones, 54, went home on Jan. 3, 2007.

She leaves behind to celebrate her life, her husband, Forrest Jones; a daughter, Brie Winton; brother, Allen and wife Marcia and their son, Jayton Ellis; brother, Steve and wife Olga Ellis, all living in Lubbock; and sister, Elissi Rathfelder, who resides in Montrose, Colo.

Belinda was born in Taos, N.M., on May 12, 1953, to Emmett and Maggie Ellis, both of whom will welcome their beloved daughter home. She was West Texas Legal Assistant of the Year in 1998, and worked the last twenty years for Crenshaw, Dupree and Milam.

While we live in a world where many have lost sight of how much a simple kindness and caring attitude mean, Belinda showed her kindness and caring in many ways. Knowing what others, even strangers, may face in the days to come, she volunteered her kindness and gave to those she loved or honored, so that they could share in the blessing she had received. She was always the first to be there in any time of need.

Belinda was an avid fan of Balloon Festival in Albuquerque and she loved plays, her favorite being Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera, which she relished seeing performed in London, England. Belinda loved to travel and in 2002 made the trip of her life to the Holy Land and returned with renewed faith and a clearer understanding of God and His Holy word.

In lieu of flowers, Belinda had requested donations be made to The Temple Institute, P. O. Box 31876, Jerusalem, Israel.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel.

Betty Jo Maples

Betty Jo Maples of Lubbock departed this life on Jan. 4, 2008, at the age of 68 years. She was born Oct. 15, 1939, in Lubbock, to Clarence and Mildred Loving. She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1958 and from Drauns Business College in 1960. During her early years, Betty was very active in the PTA, the Boy Scouts, and in other school activities with her children. Ms. Maples was a Unit Secretary at Covenant Medical Center in the Rehabilitation Unit for 18 years. She was a very active member of Memorial Baptist Church in Lubbock.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents. Those left to cherish her memory are four sons, Buck Maples and wife Debbie of Lubbock, David Maples and wife Dorothy of Lubbock, Charles Maples of Lubbock, and Weldon Maples of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, Malcolm Loving and wife Fran of Tuscola; one sister, Lavern Loving of Fredericksburg; four grandchildren, Anthony Maples of Lubbock, and Alex Maples, Sean Maples, and Kellen Maples, all of Longview; 10 step-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren.

A formal visitation will be held from 4 -8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at White Funeral Homein Lubbock. Celebration of Life services will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 7, 2008, at Memorial Baptist Church in Lubbock, with Bob Fagan officiating. Interment will follow at the Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lubbock at 1102 Slide Road, Suite 3, Lubbock, TX 79416.

Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.

Eddie Pitcock

Eddie Pitcock, 48, was born Feb. 18, 1959, in Seattle, Wash., to Jim and Donalee Pitcock. He passed away Jan. 3, 2008, in Lubbock.

Eddie graduated from Estacado High School and later obtained an Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering. He married Tracy Cole on Dec. 12, 1980, in Lubbock. Eddie was previously employed at Texas Careers and UPS. He was an avid Beatles collector and a huge Nascar fan.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Tracy; three sons, Jimmy, Matthew, and Kyle, all of Lubbock; mother, Donalee Ingram of Granbury; sister, Tammy Ortiz of Albuquerque, N.M.; brother, Gary Pitcock of Ft. Worth; and grandmother, Lorene Pitcock of Lubbock. He is preceded in death by his father.

The family will receive friends at Sanders Funeral Home on Monday, from 6 until 9 p.m. No memorial services are planned.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.

Woodrow Tipton

Funeral Services for Woodrow Tipton, 86, of Plainview, will be Friday, 2 p.m. Dec. 28, 2007 at the First Baptist Church Sanctuary, with Dr. Travis Hart, Colquitt Nash, and Manuel Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview cemetery, under the direction of Wood Dunning Funeral Home. He was born to Emmett Tipton Sr. and Ela Tipton, May 12, 1921 in Cousins Community. Mr. Tipton passed away Tuesday morning at his home. He married Lorene Nichols Oct. 20, 1945 in Hope, Ark. He was raised in Plainview, lived in Happy, Texas, and Goodnight, Texas, and served in the US Army during WW II. He worked for White Furniture, Bud's Appliance, Plainview Hardware, and greeter at Wood Dunning Funeral Home in Plainview. He was a member of First Baptist Church and Pastor's Class, worked as volunteer for Covenant Hospital Auxillary and Meals on Wheels. He is survived by three sons, Emmitt and Glenda Tipton, Kelvin and Kaye Tipton, Drexel and Geneva Tipton; a daughter, Nikki and Mark Branscum, all of Plainview; sister, Athlee Lambert, of Plainview; brother, Horace Tipton, of Dumas; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Lorene; brother, Bernard Tipton, and sister, Thelma Tipton.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6 - 8 p.m., at Wood Dunning Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch or Hale County Farm and Ranch Museum.

Wayne D. Griffin

Graveside services for Wayne Devoe Griffin, 91, of Lubbock, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at the City of Lubbock cemetery, followed by a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. at the Second Baptist Church, with Dr. Philip Wise officiating.

Wayne passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007 at his home in Lubbock.

Wayne was born June 23, 1916 in Shackleford County, to Edgar Fort Griffin and Dwina Marie Park Griffin, the third of four children. He graduated from Idalou High School and attended Texas Technological College.

On Feb. 23, 1945, he married Almeda Kee of Lamesa. Wayne was employed by Furr's Supermarket for 35 years. In 1955, he was awarded the National Award for Good Citizenship by the National Association of Food Chains.

Wayne and Almeda were members of the Second Baptist Church of Lubbock, Texas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp and served in the Pacific during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Everett Griffin; his sisters, Estelle Boverie and Edwina Morris; and his grandson, Michael Griffin.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Carol Tarbox and husband, Max, of Lubbock, Susan Schaffner and husband, Jerry, of Dallas; sons, David Griffin and wife, Debbie, of Lubbock, Mark Griffin and wife, LeAnn, of Herriman, Utah; grandchildren, Michele Horton and Meredith Kunkle and husband, Jon; Amanda Harber and husband, Luke, Betsy Ross and husband, Jeff, and Cassidy Schaffner, Lesla Griffin and Gant Griffin, Jeff Griffin and Kyle Griffin, James Tarbox and wife, Michelle, and Lizzie Tarbox; and two great-grandchildren, Sam and Lucy Kunkle.

Siria Chapa

Siria Chapa, of Lubbock, departed this life Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at the age of 92. She was born Aug. 2, 1915, in Laguna, Texas, to the late Isabel and Maria Mendoza. She was predeceased by her parents at the young age of two years, and was raised by Jesus and Aurora Mendoza. Siria was a longtime resident of Lubbock and a widower. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Salvador Chapa, and a daughter, Pam Medrano.

Those left to mourn her passing include three sons: Bill Chapa (Irma), from Slaton, Bay Chapa (Becky), Jesse Chapa (Rachel), from Lubbock; seven daughters, Alice Arredondo (Joe), from Las Vegas, Nev., Neva Montoya (Hilario), from Dallas, Bobbie Martinez, from Slaton, Mary Carrillo, Janie Vasquez, Brenda DeLara (Sammy), and Ruby Gonzales (Lupe), from Lubbock; two sisters, Andrea Valadez and Irene Ortiz (Tom), from San Antonio; 36 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2007, in the Abbey Chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 28, 2007, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Lubbock; Father David Cruz will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens cemetery in Woodrow, under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock.

Sam Hamilton

Services for S. M. Hamilton, Jr., 82, of Brownfield, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 at Brownfield Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Clarence Branch officiating. Interment will follow in Terry County Memorial cemetery, under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home. Sam passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2007 in Odessa. He was born Aug. 8, 1925 in Hope, Ark. to S. M. and Lydia Hamilton. He moved to Monahans in 1951. He married Lura Gene Ewell, Nov. 3, 1953 in Lovington, N.M. They moved to Brownfield in 1970. Sam worked for Ingram, Inc. in Monahans and Brownfield for over 23 years, retiring in 1988. He loved and enjoyed his wife, children, grandchildren and occasional fishing. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He is survived by two sons, Andy Hamilton, of Monahans, and Danny Hamilton, of Lakeside; a daughter, Retta Bolling, of Baytown; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Hazel Grisham King

Celebration of Life services for Hazel Grisham King will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Dr. Jay Horton officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at Resthaven Funeral Home. Hazel passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at her home.

Hazel Lorene King was born in Ardmore, Okla., to the late Eugene E. and Dorothy (Caspar) Grisham. Hazel graduated from Littlefield High School and continued her education At Texas Tech where she later obtained her Masters Degree. Hazel married Paul King in Lubbock on July 20, 1944, and he preceded her in death on June 3, 2006. Hazel taught school in many local school districts including New Deal, Idalou and Grand Prairie. After receiving her Masters Degree she served as counselor, diagnostician, and administrator for the Lubbock Independent School District. She served two terms as president of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association. Hazel retired after 40 years and enjoyed traveling with her husband to Europe and on various cruises. She was also a lifetime member of the Lubbock Women's Club.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Dr. Gary King and wife, Christy, of Dallas; granddaughters, Chelsea King, of Los Angeles, Calif., Jyll King, of San Diego, Calif., and Leisa King, of Maui, Hawaii; and a sister, Dorothy D'Amico, of Midwest City, Okla.

Memorials may be made the Leukemia Society in memory of Paul King.

Lula Marie Fleming

Lula Marie Fleming was born on July 20, 1915, in Toler, N.M. and died Jan. 4, 2008, at the age of 92. She was the youngest of seven children born to T.L. Beall and Mary Lula Demic. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Raymond Lee Fleming, who died May 25, 2004. Marie is survived by her son and daughter, Ray Dean Fleming and LaVon Reeve; her son-in-law, Don Reeve and her daughter-in-law, Jan Fleming. Marie has seven grandchildren: Kipi Ward, Karla Dixon, Reese Fleming, Loyd Fleming, Jay Reeve, Julie Banfield and Jamie Epperson. There are also 13 great-grandchildren, Haylee, Jalayna and Brooklyn Ward, Dallas and Trapper Dixon, Sasha Hollingworth, Brittany Hopkins, Ashley and Macy Reeve, Parker and Taryn Banfield, and Emily and Cody Epperson, and one great great-grandchild, Jaleigh Lynn Hopkins.

Marie married the love of her life on Oct. 25, 1936, in Clovis, N.M. and lived her life to the fullest. Marie was a devoted wife, a loving and caring mother, a dedicated homemaker, a talented artist, a steadfast friend to many, and a gift from God in the eyes of her grandchildren. She spent her life serving others; never thinking of herself. With her steadfast love and support, her husband, her children, and her grandchildren spread their wings and soared. She showed us by her selfless example how to love one another, how to follow God, how to care for our neighbors, and how to raise a family. Marie was the matriarch of a close, loving, caring, and proud family. She will be missed, but never for-gotten.

There will be a family visitation this evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. MST at the Melrose Memorial cemetery in Melrose, N.M. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be sent to the Children's Home of Lubbbock, P.O. Box 2824, Lubbock, TX 79408.
