Natalie Beth Martin
Natalie Beth Martin, 45, of Lubbock went to be with the Lord Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008. She was born Dec. 19, 1962, in Lubbock, to Joseph Lee Fletcher III and Sue Hardy Fletcher. Beth grew up and spent the majority of her life in the San Angelo area. She was a graduate of Bronte High School. She worked as a dedicated employee for the Health and Human Services Commission. Beth loves the Lord with all her heart and has always had a strong relationship with Him. She has recently become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was a beloved and cherished daughter, mother, friend, and family member. Beth lived her life to the fullest. She was always smiling, laughing, and lending a helping hand. Her contagious smile and wit will be greatly missed, along with the comfort you could always find in her presence. Beth has touched many lives with her ready love. She was an active person and was always ready to jump into some sort of project, activity, or sport. Beth married
Donald Butler in 1983 and they had three beautiful children.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Dortheda and Bethel Hardy.
She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Sue Fletcher; two sons, Lyndon and Mitchell Butler; one daughter, Lindsey Butler; and numerous family members and friends. Pall bearers will be her cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 3211 58th St. Lubbock, TX, at 7 p.m. today, Jan. 6th. Visitation will be Sunday at Shaffer Funeral Home at 509 S State St, in Bronte, followed by a graveside service at 3 p.m. Monday, at Fairview cemetery in Bronte. Arrangements can be made through Shaffer Funeral Home in Bronte. Memorials can be made to the charity of your choice.
Ruby Jones
Ruby Ola Jones, 87, passed away peacefully in Frisco on Friday, Jan. 4, 2008. Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel, with Bro. Joe Huddleston officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Ruby was born July 5, 1920, in Bridgeport, to "Pat" and Lottie (Kirkland) McKibben. The family moved to the South Plains when Ruby was five. Ruby was the oldest of 15 children. Ruby was married
to John B. Griffith, Sr. from 1942 to 1961. She then married
Oscar Jones on Jan. 23, 1970, in Lubbock.
Her family fondly remembers Ruby as a hardworking, proper lady.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, John Griffith, Jr. and wife Joanna of McKinney; daughters, De Lynch and husband J.R. of Ft. Worth and Rita Ritter and husband Jim of Granbury; three stepchildren, Sammy and Richard Jones, and Deanna Fisher; 11 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; two sisters and three brothers. She is preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Jones, six sisters, and three brothers.
Shirley Ann Barrett
Services for Shirley Ann Barrett, 55, of Slaton will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, in Englunds Chapel, with Ken Bevel officiating. Burial will follow in Slaton's Englewood cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Shirley was born April 16, 1952, in Lamesa. She was a graduate of Slaton High School, and attended South Plains College and Texas Tech University. Shirley married
Edwin W. Barrett on Oct. 20, 1978, in Phoenix, Ariz., and resided there until Oct. 2, 1987, when she moved back to Slaton. She owned and operated SB Trucking. She was a member of OOIDA, Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, Lubbock Women's Bowling Association, and a Life Member of the American Quarter Horse Association & Paint Horse Association.
Her survivors include Ed of the home; daughters, Lura Leah Sortland of Canada, Amy and husband Robby Reeves of Slaton, and Judy Flores of Idalou; sons, Timothy Crawford of Houston and Jim Ed and wife Deanna Barrett of Slaton; step-mother, Frieda Hightower of Overton; five brothers, Robert Hightower of Malakoff, Billy James Hightower of Hillsboro, Bobby Hightower of Lubbock, and James Hightower of Big Bear, Calif.; two sisters, Marshua Dyer of Pinon, Calif. and Judy Woody of Acuff; along with 17 grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by a sister, Tammy Baker. The family requests memorials to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch or Vista Care Hospice of Lubbock.
Toni Stephens
Cloe Elena Stephens, or "Toni" as she was known to many, was born June 30, 1935, to Antonio and Clara Ganz, in Chicago, Ill. Following a long and courageous battle with Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia, she passed Jan. 3rd, following complications from congestive heart failure.
Rosary in honor of Toni will occur Sunday at 7 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home, 1420 Main Street in Lubbock. Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Saint Elizabeth's Catholic Church, 2305 Main Street, in Lubbock. Toni will be buried in the family plot in Paden, Miss.
Over her full and colorful life, Toni worked in commercial management, realty and interior design. Toni was notorious for her ability to make and entertain friends all over the world. She touched all she met with her spirit, sense of humor and giving nature. She was loved by so many people, including her husband, Leland D. Stephens, whom she married
on May 21, 1977.
Together, the two of them served the U.S. Government on the island of Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia. They then returned to Lubbock to retire.
Survivors include husband, Leland; brother, Everardo Ganz; their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and countless deep, deep friendships.
John Samuel Phillips
John Samuel Phillips - Aug.12, 1925 - Jan. 4th, 2008 Texarkana native earned degrees from Ouachita Baptist University and Southern Baptist Theological University. He served as pastor in Ken., Ark., N.M. prior to teaching at Texas Tech [1967-1971]. He returned to pastorate in Ala. and Okla. until retirement.
Survived by wife, Gloria who taught art in Lubbock Public Schools, and daughters Ginny [Allen], Marty Phillips; and Catherine [Caracio], six grandchildren, and two siblings. Memorial at Tulsa's Asbury UMC Monday, January 7th at 11:00 a.m. Donations: Tulsa's Grace Hospice or Salvation Army suggested.
Jerry Lee Lowrance
Jerry Lee Lowrance, 69, of Haskell, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008. A Funeral Service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 at Believers Chapel in Munday.
Jerry was born in Knox County Dec. 18, 1938, the son of the late William "Bill" Lowrance and Alice Harrison Lowrance. He married
Melba Petty in 1975. They moved from Lubbock to Haskell in 1979. Jerry retired with West Texas Utilities/CSW.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Melba Lowrance, of the home; son, Lyndal Lowrance, of Lubbock; daughter, Melissa Eudy and husband, Shawn, of Tomball; grandchildren, Cherise Lowrance, and Bryce and Logan Eudy.
James W. Taylor
James William Taylor, 83 of Wolfforth, passed away Dec. 15, 2007 at his home. He was born on May 22, 1924 in Okla. He attended high school in Littlefield. Mr. Taylor then studied at West Texas State College and graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Horticulture, Architecture and Botany. James served his country during World War II from 1943-1946 as a Staff Sergeant Radio Operator Gunner with the 344th Bombardment Squadron flying in the B26 Marauder aircraft in the Army. He met Doris Nell Gates in 1942 while attending West Texas State College and they married
June 6, 1948 in Lubbock.
He began his career in Lubbock as the Director of Parks and Recreation. Ten years in Colorado Springs, Colo., as the Director of Parks and Recreation, is where he became known for innovative park design. In 1963, Mr. Taylor moved to Maplewood N.J. for 20 years, where he served as the Secretary Director of Essex County Park Commission. He was voted to the Board of Governors for seven years as a Director of The American Institute of Park Executives. Retiring in 1983 to Wolfforth, he consulted as a Master Gardener and Landscape Architect for Tom's Tree Place, in Lubbock.
James was a Masonic member of the O'Donnell Lodge and a past Worshipful Master of the Yellowhouse Lodge in Lubbock. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He enjoyed the Iris Society in Lubbock and the Lubbock Gem and Mineral Society. His spare time was spent growing orchids, painting in oil and watercolor, a green thumb for plants of all climates, lapidary work with turquoise and silver. He has received awards displaying his original silver jewelry and sculpture from the Lubbock Gem and Mineral Society.
Those left to cherish James memory are his wife, Doris; three sons, Richard Taylor, of Lakewood, Colo., Craig Taylor, of Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Thomas Gates Taylor, of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; two daughters, Kay Taylor Fite, of Everett, Wash. and Sarah Taylor Izzo and her husband, Joe, of Maplewood, N.J.; one brother, Norbin Taylor, of Del Rio; one sister, Jowili Etchison, of Big Spring; two grandchildren, Joshua and Katey Izzo; and one great-grandchild, Clover Rose McKenna Izzo.
Graveside Services wereheld at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007 at O'Donnell cemetery in O'Donnell. Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 at White Memorial Chapel in Lubbock.
Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.
Reverend Richard Rick McGee
Reverend Richard "Rick" McGee, 61, of Lubbock, passed away Jan. 2, 2008. He was born on April 10, 1946 in Kermit, to Walter Carl McGee and Willa Mae McCargo. He graduated from Kermit High School. He then went to the University of Texas at El Paso, where he was awarded a Bachelor's of Arts degree. Rick went on to receive his Masters of Divinity from the Southwester Baptist Theological Seminary. Rick married
Jenita Gwen Hemphill in Kermit, on March 3, 1968.
Rick served his country during the Vietnam Era as a member of the Air Force. He was a minister and chaplain at Covenant Medical Center until his retirement. He was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; one son, Corey McGee and wife, Ashley, of Nikiski, Ala.; one daughter, Krista Fauvel and husband, Darrell, of Abilene; one brother, Walter McGee, of Kaufman; one sister, Ann Hinds, of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; and one grandson, Benjamin McGee.
Formal visitation will be from 6 - 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008 at White Funeral Home in Lubbock. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 4, 2007 at Oakwood Baptist Church in Lubbock, with Reverend Bob Highley officiating. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.

Hong Ma, (Melody Young)
Hong Ma, (Melody Young), wife of Luke Young and mother of Peter M. and Daniel M. passed away, Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007 at University Medical Center. Family and friends will gather to reminisce 45 years of her life from 12
p.m. until 1:50 p.m. at LakeRidge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 82nd and Iola Avenue. Following the gathering, Hong Ma will be escorted to the ceremonial room at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers for a committal service prior to her cremation. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2007 at the Lubbock Chinese Christian Church, 1502 15th St, Lubbock, with Robert Sea, PhD. and Reverend Jim White officiating.
Hong Ma was born to Riuxian Ma and Bin Xin in Nanjing, China. Hong earned a Degree in Nursing from Jiangsu Provincial Traditional Chinese Medical College, School of Nursing in China. She and Luke moved to Texas in 1991, and she later became employed with University Medical Center as BSN in Medical Intensive Care Unit.
She is survived by her faithful husband, Luke Y. Young, of Lubbock; sons, Peter M. and Daniel M. Young, of Lubbock; her brothers, Zhijun Ma and Mingming Ma, both of China; and her sister, LiLi Ma, of California.

Noah Solis
Noah Solis, 75, of Wolfforth died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at Covenant Medical Center.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Emmanuel Worship Center, 1102 70th St., Lubbock, with burial to follow at the City of Wolfforth cemetery.
Noah Hernandez Solis was born Sept. 4, 1931, in Kosse, to the late Ventura and Petra Solis. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Noah pastored and ministered with the Assemblies of God. He also worked at Texas Tech University as a machinist, a job he held for more than 35 years.
Noah is also preceded in death by a son, Samuel Solis.
He is survived by his wife, Cuca Solis of Wolfforth; children, Elizabeth Jackson and husband David of Arlington, Irene Rodriguez and husband Sammy of Slaton and Marie Flores and husband Lucas of Wolfforth; sister, Elena Riojas of Lubbock; five grandchildren, Elisha Nicole Solis, Isaac Rodriguez, Vanessa Rodriguez, Melissa Solis and Lucas Flores, Jr.
