Calvin Wallace

Calvin Eugene Wallace, 75, of Lubbock peacefully departed this life on December 3, 2008.
Calvin was born April 16, 1933 in LaCrosse, Kansas. He graduated LaCrosse High School as valedictorian. In 1954, Calvin joined the Air Force and while stationed at Cannon AFB, New Mexico, he met and married
Joyce Widner on July 6, 1957.
Calvin is survived by his wife Joyce and their four sons, Bill and wife Rebecca of Lubbock; Gene and wife Marcy of Grapevine; Donald and wife Cyndi, and Randall and wife Vickie both of San Antonio.
Calvin was blessed with eight grandchildren, Olivia Perry and husband Mike; Matthew Wallace of San Antonio; Kyle, Adam, Derek & Drew Wallace, all of San Antonio; Mikaela Wallace of Lubbock; Brandon Rodgers of Pearland, and one great grandson, Dallas Perry of Rich Hill, Missouri.
Other survivors include one sister, Betty Dial and husband John of Aurora, CO, two brothers-in-law, Dale Widner of Friona; Jerry Widner and wife Bobby of Las Cruces, NM, and sister-in-law Bonnie McMath and husband Bob of Estancia, NM, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Nellie Wallace of LaCrosse Kansas, and sister-in-law Louise Widner of Friona Texas.

Family and friends will gather at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers from 6-7:30 p.m. this evening. Celebration on Calvin’s life will continue at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008 at Bacon Heights Baptist Church. Dr. Jerry Joplin and Dr. Herbert Bergstrom will officiate. Committal service will be at 3:30p.m. (CST) in the Melrose cemetery, Melrose, NM.
Raelyn Sage Hunter

God called our precious Angel, Raelyn Sage, 3 months old home on Tuesday, October 21, 2008.
Raelyn Sage Hunter was born July 21, 2008, in Lubbock to Telly Hunter and Ginger Benedict. This sweet Angel brought so much joy to all those that new her.
Raelyn is being held by her grandfather, LeRoy Barbee, who preceded her in death, November 27, 2000. She will be laid to rest by her grandfather at Sappington cemetery in Cowden, Oklahoma.
Those left to cherish her memories are her father and mother. Her big sister Brittny Benedict of the home, her paternal grandparents, Ray and Linda Hunter of Kellogg, Iowa and Charmaine Squires of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada; maternal grandmother, Joy Barbee of Tuttle, Oklahoma; one aunt, Katie Peter of St. John’s Newfoundland, Canada; one uncle, Bryan Barbee of Robison, Illinois; and numerous friends and family.
Mitzi Brown
June 14th, 1961 - January 22nd, 2009
Mitzi Brown, 47, of Lubbock won the victory Thursday morning, January 22, 2009 after losing the battle to cancer. A graduate of J. Frank Dobie High School in Houston, TX and Lubbock Christian University, Mitzi devoted her life to caring for her children and attending their events while selling Mary Kay cosmetics. A long time member of Sunset Church of Christ, Mitzi loved working with the Children’s Ministry and Youth Group.
Her husband Bob, children Taylor and Michaela, parents Ron and Alpha Ledgerwood, brother Kip Ledgerwood, in-laws Bill and Shirley Brown, brother and sister-in-law Jim and Sharon Brown, nephews Chris Brown (and wife Keri and daughters Katlin and Kara), Jeff Brown, Daniel Brown and Caleb Brown, along with other family members and a host of friends.
James W. Patterson
May 16th, 1920 - January 25th, 2009
James William Patterson died at the VistaCare Center Sunday, January 25, 2009. He was born to the late Horace Bishop and Callie Mae Lott Patterson on May 16, 1920, at the family home on a Scurry County farm west of Snyder, Texas.
James met Earlene Bowers in 1941 while both were working for the federal Agricultural Adjustment Administration in Snyder, and the couple was married
in Dunn, Texas, near the Bowers family farm on October 3, 1942.
James is survived by his wife, Earlene Patterson; by their three children and their spouses: Ron and Betty Patterson of Austin, Texas; Mike and Betty Patterson of Whitney, Texas; and Priscilla and Larry Cypert of Lubbock; and by 7 grandchildren and their spouses: Spencer and Tammy Patterson of Dallas; Brady Patterson of Austin; Michael and Gail Patterson of Fort Worth, Texas; Chris and Jennifer Patterson of Caruthersville, Missouri; Amy Patterson of Katy, Texas; Melissa and Chad Ferrell of Yukon, Oklahoma; and Brad and Tia Cypert of Yukon, Oklahoma. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a great-grand-daughter, a brother and three sisters.
James was a county agent for the USDA’s Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA) and its successor agency, the Production and Marketing Administration (PMA), in Andrews, then Throckmorton, and finally Fisher Counties before going into the auto parts business in Seminole, Texas, in 1955. He sold his auto parts business and retired in 1986. In 1997, the couple moved to Lubbock. He spent his retirement years gardening, woodworking, singing, and playing several self-taught musical instruments. He and Earlene also traveled extensively in their motor home.
Joann Torres
May 4th, 1959 - January 20th, 2009
Joann Torres’ family and friends will gather to celebrate her 49 years of life this evening beginning at 7:00 p.m. with a rosary service at Lake Ridge Chapel, 82nd and Iola Ave. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church followed by committal service at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Joann went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 after battling cancer for several years.
Joann was born May 4, 1959 in Abilene to Richard and Tammy (Namikawa) Maserang. She moved to Lubbock with her family while very young. Joann graduated from Estacado High School and continued her education to become a Paralegal. While working as a Paralegal Joann married
Robert G. Torres on Feb. 28, 1992 in Lubbock. Joann was a homemaker for many years after she and Robert married
. Later she worked as a cashier at The Money Stop until being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Robert; two sons, Joseph Gonzales and Fabian Torres; three daughters, Jennifer Young, Vanessa Torres and Elia Franco; two grandchildren, Dangelo Cantu and Cameron Gonzales; and two brothers, Henry Maserang and Michael Maserang .
Joann’s parents and her grandson, Cody Gonzales precede her in death.
Alice Marie Johnson
December 28th, 1925 - January 18th, 2009
Alice Marie was born on Dec 28, 1925 in Farmersville, to Polk Crittendon and Mary Alta Williams.
She is survived by her daughter, Jenny Marie Telles and spouse, James of Los Alamos, NM; son, David Crittendon Johnson and spouse, Hui-Chun of Mesilla, NM; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; sister, Mildred Garcia and spouse, Dino of Grapevine.
Elaine Anderson
October 3rd, 1943 - January 18th, 2009
Elaine was born on Oct 03, 1943 in McKinney, Texas to Connie Rabon and Alice Marie Williams Johnson. Elaine married
Christopher Anderson on Dec 30, 1963 in Hobbs, New Mexico. She moved to Lubbock in 1982 from Dallas. She was a devoted mother, wife, and teacher and will be greatly missed by all those whom she loved and served. Her vibrant spirit and unshakeable faith will live on in the memories of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her daughter, Eugenia Aline Book and spouse, Brian of Lubbock; son, Jonathan Christopher Anderson and spouse, Elizabeth of Kirkland, WA; grandchildren, Braeden Book and Brynton Anderson; sister, Jenny Marie Telles and spouse, James of Los Alamos, NM; brother, David Crittendon Johnson and spouse, Hui-Chun of Mesilla, NM.
Dr. Chris F. Anderson
October 15th, 1943 - January 18th, 2009
He was born October 15, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, to Dr. and Mrs. Ernest Anderson. He graduated from Los Alamos High School in New Mexico in 1961. He married
Alice Elaine Johnson on December 30, 1963, in Hobbs, New Mexico.
After graduating from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1969, Dr. Anderson received his masters in orthodontics in 1972. A member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, South Plains District Dental Society, Dallas County District Dental Society, American Association of Orthodontists, American Cleft Palate Association, American Academy of Orofacial Pain, and the American Association of Dental Editors, his service to organized dentistry and his community was unparalleled.
Dr. Anderson was nominated for the Texas Academy of General Dentistry’s 2004 Dentist of the Year Award and the American Association of Dental Editors Distinguished Dental Editor Award in 2005. The Texas Dental Association awarded him the 2004 Service Recognition Award for Incomparable Service for his work as editor of the Texas Dental Journal, the oldest, continuously-published dental journal in the Americas. Named editor in 1999, Dr. Anderson’s issues and editorials in the Texas Dental Journal were examples of his leadership, addressing dental office medical emergencies, dental radiology, and the changing dental practice model. He received numerous awards from the International College of Dentists for outstanding dental journalism.
Dr. Anderson had unwavering dedication to the principles of continuing education. He was a clinical instructor and lecturer for the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and he was extremely privileged to be the attending orthodontist on the university’s cleft palate team for several decades.
His charitable services extended to the community, as he served on the South Plains Boy Scouts Council Eagle Review Board and District Camping Committee. He was also active in the Christian Life Center and Christian Resource Center of Lubbock.
He was joined in death by his wife Elaine. Survivors include a daughter, Eugenia Aline, and her husband Brian Book of Lubbock; a son, Jonathan Christopher, and his wife Elizabeth of Seattle, Washington; two grandchildren, Braeden Christopher Book of Lubbock and Brynton Westlee Anderson of Seattle, Washington; his father, Dr. Ernest Carl Anderson of Chula Vista, California; and a sister, Julie Schultz of Chula Vista, California.
Dr. Anderson will be greatly missed by his family, friends and the dental community. He was a man of impeccable character, generosity and faith. He leaves behind the best of himself in the people he loved and served.
Dr. John Marion Filippone
January 5th, 1937 - January 18th, 2009
Dr. Filippone was born in Houston, Texas on January 5, 1937. He was the eldest of six children of Dr. John M. Filippone, Sr. and Pauline Agnes (Lucia) Filippone.
Dr. Filippone received his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Tulane University in 1959, where he was President of the Tulane chapter of Sigma Chi fraternity. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of Houston in 1963, where he met his wife Linda (Rainey). Dr. Filippone graduated from the Tulane University School of Medicine in 1967, where he was a member of the Phi Chi Medical Fraternity. He completed his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Charity Hospital of Louisiana at New Orleans. Dr. Filippone then served as a Major in the United States Air Force, practicing Obstetrics and Gynecology while stationed at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico.
Dr. Filippone was a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the American Fertility Society, the Lubbock, Crosby, Garza County Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, the North American Menopause Society, the Covenant Catholic Physicians Association, and the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopy.
Dr. Filippone, his wife Linda and their three children moved to Lubbock in 1973, where Dr. Filippone established his Obstetrics and Gynecology practice and co-founded the Pavilion Medical Group with Dr. Preston DeShan and Dr. Reinhold Hinz. Dr. Filippone practiced medicine in Lubbock for 35 years.
Dr. Filippone had a deep, passionate love of art, originating when he bought his first print from Abe Tahir while in Medical School at Tulane University. Through his collection he learned more about art and began sharing his love of art with others. He was a trustee of the Museum of Texas Tech University, has served on the acquisitions committee for the museum and curated exhibitions of Modern American Master and Modern Japanese Prints from the Filippone art collection. Dr. Filippone and his wife Linda served as the first jurors of the Invitational Gallery at the first-ever Lubbock Arts Festival, and reprised their roles as jurors for the 27th Annual Arts Festival in 2005. Most recently, Dr. Filippone and Linda have served as Founding Members of the Medici Circle for the School of Art of Texas Tech University.
Dr. Filippone was a quiet, modest man of great integrity. He had a profound love for and devotion to God, his family, his many friends, his patients and his colleagues. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Dr. Filippone is survived by Linda, his devoted wife of 45 years; his daughter Donna Suzanne; his son John and his wife Cassandra; his son Paul and his wife Cynthia; his “other sons” Stace McEwin and Sebastien Ducos; his brother Marion (Pete) and his wife Judy; his brother Vincent Joseph; his sisters Rosalie, Pauline Padgett and Mary Jo Langston; his nephews Tom and Vincent; his nieces Kathy, Tonya, Karen, Paige and Lucia; his grandchildren John Michael, Lucia, Lucas, Andrew and Jude; his mother-in-law Annie Sue Rainey; numerous foreign exchange students who knew him as “Dad”; and Dee Cloud, who helped raise two generations of Filippone children.
Dr. Filippone always gave his best to his patients, family, friends and colleagues, and was grateful for the many patients, friends and colleagues who offered their support and prayers for him and his family during his illness. Dr. Filippone’s family would like to particularly thank the many fine members of the staffs of Covenant Medical Group and Hospice of Lubbock who showed so much love and compassion while caring for him.
A Celebration of the Life of Dr. Filippone will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday January 23, 2009 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 9821 Frankford, Lubbock, Texas. There will be a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday January 24, 2009 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. All are invited to come celebrate Dr. Filippone’s life with his family.
