Hattie Brantley

Services for Hattie B. Brantley, 91, of Brownfield and formerly of Plains, will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Horn and Rev. Steve Carter officiating. Burial will be in Terry County Memorial cemetery, under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Hattie passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008 in Brownfield. She was born July 23, 1916 in Lawrence County, Tenn. to Walter Pickney and Carrie Anne Elmore. She moved with her family to the Tokio community in 1927. She married A. G. Brantley, Dec. 3, 1932 in Lovington, N.M. He preceded her in death Nov. 8, 1994. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Brownfield. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and her sisters, and a son, C. E. "Buddy" Brantley.

Hattie B. gave her life to the Lord when she was 43 years old and she has never stopped praising Him for her Salvation. She loves the Lord God with all her heart and has spent many hours in Bible study, in prayer, and in telling others about her precious Savior. In her lifetime, she has touched so many lives with her love and wisdom and grace.

She is survived by her son, G. W. "Sonny" and his wife, JoAnn, of Midlothian; a daughter-in-law, Janelle Brantley; six grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Henry Samsel

Memorial Service for Henry (Hank) Albert Samsel, 83, of Kenedy, Texas, will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel, 6025 82nd St, Lubbock, TX. Samsel was born in Karnes County, Texas on Aug. 8, 1924, and attended school in Kenedy. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps and flew missions in the Pacific Theater. He married Francis Louise Moore on June 26, 1948, and they were married for 57 years. His wife passed away in 2005. Samsel continued flying as a civilian pilot from 1951 through 1987 based out of Lubbock and Abernathy. During this time he specialized in charter services, aircraft sales, and pilot instruction. After retiring from flying he relocated to his South Texas ranch in Karnes County where he continued farming and ranching until the spring of 2007. Samsel is survived by his daughter Martha and her husband, Buddy Harrison, of Lubbock, and grandchildren, Jody and his wife, Christen, of Little Elm, and Stacy Harrison, of Dallas. The family requests that any memorials be sent to St. Paul's Lutheran Church (408 South Davidson St., Karnes City, TX 78118) or Vista Care Hospice of Lubbock. Ollie Moore

Ollie Moore, 82, of Lubbock, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Vandelia Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the City of Lubbock cemetery under the directions of Rix Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Moore was born in Lubbock, Dec 22, 1925, to Ollie and Maude (Taylor) Brock. She was a graduate of Lubbock High School and had owned and operated Ollie's Alteration shop since 1964.

She is survived by two sons, Gary Moore, of Federal Way, Wash., and Paul Moore, of Lubbock; one brother, Jimmie Brock, of Richland, Wash.; three grandchildren, Lynn Calimlim, Tracy McAllister, Brad Moore; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Brock Moore, and ten brothers and sisters. Memorials are suggested to the Vandelia Church of Christ 2002 60th St. Lubbock, TX 79412.

L.A. Wall

Services for L.A. Leck' Wall, 90, of Jayton, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Justice-Mason Funeral Home, in Post. Rev. Jim Reinbolt, will officiate. Burial will follow at the Terrace cemetery in Post. Arrangements are under the personal care of Justice-Mason Funeral Home in Post. L.A. died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, in Abilene. Born March 30, 1917 in Garza County. He married Vallie Churchill, March 19, 1944. Vallie preceded him in death Oct. 6, 1994. He worked at Salt Creek oil field and retired from there. Leck was also preceded in death by one daughter, Rogene Browning and a grandson, Leck Browning. Survivors include one daughter, Deborah Hooser and her husband, Arnett, of Tucumcari, N.M.; one brother, J.D. Wall, of Denver City; and two sisters, Faye Ramsey, of Tahoka, and Billie Jo Carroll, of O'Donnell; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of your choice.

Lovie Cunningham

Lovie Gene Cunningham, 85, of Lubbock, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at St. Anthony's Medical Center, in Oklahoma City, Okla. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Bethel AME Church, with burial at Peaceful Garden cemetery.

Lovie was born March 2, 1922 in Greenville, Texas. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Solone Cunningham, Jr.; two daughters, Janet Cyprain and Pamela Jenkins; one sister, Mary Rehling; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of others relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 12 to 7 p.m. today at Griffin Mortuary.

Linda Hajdik

Services for Linda Hajdik, 14, of Ralls, will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 at the Ralls First Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Carson and Tyler Archer officiating. Burial will be in the Ralls cemetery, under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

Linda passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008 at Covenant Medical Center, in Lubbock.

She was born on June 8, 1993 in Smithville to Charles and Laura (Spillar) Hajdik.

She was a member of the Ralls First Baptist Church and in the ninth grade at Ralls High School. She was active in the Ralls High School Band where she was a member of the flag corp. She was a straight-A student, participated in EDGE and was a member of the one-act play cast.

Linda is preceded in death by a sister, Nancy McCool, who passed away in 2005.

Survivors include her parents, Kenneth and Linda McCool, of Ralls; her birth parents, Charles Hajdik, of Smithville, and Laura Hajdik, of Austin; a brother, Kenneth McCool, Jr., of Idalou; and a sister, Pamela Jo McCool, of York, Penn.

Nita Gummelt

Nita Gummelt, 84, Amarillo, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008. Services will be Friday, Jan. 4, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Howard Batson and Pastor Emeritus Dr. Winfred Moore. Burial will follow at Resthaven cemetery, Lubbock.

Arrangements are under the direction of Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Coulter Chapel, in Amarillo.

Nita was born Sept. 19, 1923, in Fannin County, Texas, To Jesse and Katie Harriage. She married Ed Gummelt in Dec. of 1943. She had been a member of First Baptist Church since 1972.

Survivors include her children, Jan Cummings and Jim, of Lubbock, Lee Gummelt and Nancy, of San Antonio, and Debbie Corner, of Austin; grandchildren, Paul Cummings, Mark Cummings, and Marcie Cummings; four great-grandchildren, Kamryn Cummings, Fletcher Cummings, Aftyn Cummings, and Adison Cummings.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed, who passed away in 1984; two sisters; and one brother.

The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church 1208 S. Tyler, Amarillo, TX and Amarillo Botanical Gardens 1400 Streit Drive, Amarillo, TX 79106.

Frank Hernandez

Frank M. Hernandez, Jr., of Lubbock, departed this life on Jan. 2, 2007, at the age of 60 years. He was born Jan. 17, 1947, in Hereford, to Frank Hernandez, Sr. and Susie (Lopez). Frank married Candelaria Barron, Nov. 22, 1975, in Lubbock. Mr. Hernandez was a self employed contractor and the owner of Hernandez Remodeling. He retired in 2004.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Candelaria; three daughters, Lori Hernandez, of Lubbock, Linda Diaz, of Lubbock, Donna Diaz, of Arlington; one son, Frank Hernandez, Jr., of Lubbock; one brother, Ben Hernandez and wife, Rosa, of Lubbock; three brother-in-laws, Brigido Rodriguez (Terri), of Lubbock, Johnny Rodriguez, of Lubbock, and David Gonzalez, of Lubbock; one sister, Janie Sanchez and husband, Zachary, of Munday; one sister-in-law, Sylvia Lovato (Trine), of Lubbock.

Frank was preceded in death by one daughter, Rosie Muniz.

Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m., Jan, 4, 2008, at the White Memorial Chapel in Lubbock.

Celebration of Life services will be at 12 p.m., Jan, 5, 2008, at Our Lady of Grace in Lubbock, with Celebrant Father David Cruz. Interment will follow in the Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow.

Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.

Charles Gist

Charles Larry Gist was born in Quanah, on Aug. 5, 1931 to Virgil Larry Gist and Lela (Jenkins) Gist. Charles married Joyce Coffey in Pampa on Dec. 7, 1949 and served in the U.S. Army from Aug. 21, 1952 to June 29, 1954. After the service, they returned to Texas to make their home and start a family.

Charles went to work for S. W. P. S. (Xcel Energy) Company in Denver City where they raised their family in the Denver City Church of Christ then transferred to Muleshoe in 1982 to help open the first coal burning plant in Texas, before retiring in 1992. They attended the Muleshoe Church of Christ.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Ann (Coffey) Gist, of Muleshoe; children, Mona (Gist) Otenti, of Richardson, Debra Gist, of Lubbock, Chuck Gist, of Denver City; grandchildren, Bobby Otenti, of Plano, Cyrstal (Otenti) Ross, of Little Elm, Heather (Otenti) Dilling, of Garland, and Lacey Otenti, of Richardson; great-grandchildren, Mikey Otenti, Chloe Ross, and Jadyn Dilling; siblings, John Gist, of Post, Clara (Gist) Provence, of Wichita Falls, David Gist, of Snyder, and Donald Gist, of Turlock, Calif.; and many loved nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Lela, and siblings Emma Gist, Carl Gist, and Wanda (Gist) Tucker.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at the Muleshoe Church of Christ, on American Boulevard. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Portales N.M. Children's Home or The Boys Ranch of Texas.

Ann Liz Jeanes

Ann "Liz" Jeanes, 79, of Amarillo, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007. She was born April 30, 1928 in Knoxville, Tenn., to Mabel and Ernest Wyrick. She lived in various places and made Amarillo her home for most of her life until she moved to Lubbock for 11 years.

Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2007 at Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel with Dr. Paul Richardson of Rockwell Road Baptist Church. Cremation by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors.

Survivors include son, Glenn Johnson, of Lubbock; six daughters, Pat Bennefield, Pam Cooke, Jan Weathers all of Amarillo, Shari Morrow, and Tonya Martinez, of Lubbock, and Sheila Ferrer, of Dallas; 13 grandchildren, Trace Swift, Michelle Stewart, Ronnie Cooke, Tyson and Tyler Hale, Tawny Wright, Tara and Tanner Turner, Brittani De La Cruz, Chance Oglesby, Shyleigh Harris, Hunter and Remington Martinez; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

The family suggests memorials to VistaCare, 1717 Norfolk Ave. #A, Lubbock, TX 79416.
