Kairi Elizabeth Gomez

Services for Kairi Elizabeth Gomez, three-month-old infant, of Danny Gomez and Eva K. Padron, of Wollforth, will be 3 p.m. Friday, at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Cummings officiating.

Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, with Father Ernesto Lopez officiating. Burial will be at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home.

Kairi died Saturday Dec. 22, 2007. She was born on Sept. 15, 2007 in Lubbock.

Survivors include her parents, both of Wollforth; her paternal grandparents, Regina Gomez, of Lubbock, and Frank Gomez, of Arizona; her maternal grandparents, Eustacio and Barbara Padron, both of Lubbock; and her paternal great-grandmother, Joyce Gill, of Lubbock.

Maria Rodriguez

On Feb. 12, 1920, Maria Elida was born to Francisco and Natalia (Diaz) Gutierrez in Floresville. She was raised in Karnes City, where, in 1952, Maria married Julio Rodriguez. By 1963, they moved to Lubbock. In 1984, she retired from Housekeeping at Texas Tech. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a part of the choir for 40 years. She enjoyed devoting time assisting the elderly at Senior Citizen Center in Lubbock. Maria passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Raymond Rodriguez, three brothers, Manuel, Rudolfo, and Francisco; and three sisters, Josephina, Lilia, and Aurora. She is survived by two sons and one daughter, and their spouses, Frank Rodriquez (Yun), Julio Rodriguez (Esmeralda), Irma Renteria (Robert); 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Esther Ortiz (Candelario); two brothers, Adolfo Gutierrez (Guadalupe) and Carlos Gutierrez (Consuelo); and a sister-in-law, Concha Gutierrez.

A rosary will be said at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 in W.W. Rix Chapel. The Mass will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Father Martin Pi?a officiating. Interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens.

Patricia Ann Burford Winkles

Graveside services for Patricia Ann Burford Winkles, of Shallowater, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, in the City of Lubbock cemetery. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, Texas.

She died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at her home after a lengthy illness.

She was born Oct. 20, 1944 in Clovis, NM. She married Lowrey Dwayne Winkles in Shallowater, Texas, where she had lived since building her home on the family farm in 1976. She was the bookkeeper at the Shallowater Gin. She was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Burford.

She is survived by her husband, Dwayne Winkles; three children, Brian Fenn, Terri Lancaster and Jodi Dyer; a sister, Judy Myrick and a brother Larry Burford; five grandchildren, Heather Stoup, Tristan and Bree Lancaster, Bailey and Kobie Dyer, and a great granddaughter, Kenlee Stroup.

Family suggests memorials be sent to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch.

Rubye Collier Nickson

Services for Rubye Collier Nickson, 92, of Crosbyton will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 at the Crosbyton Church of Christ with Terry Ellison officiating. Burial will be in Crosbyton cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

Rubye passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at the Ralls Nursing Home.

She was born on May 22, 1915 to the late Isham and Irene (Ragle) Collier. On June 18, 1933, she married Bill Nickson in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1981.

Ruby was a member of the Crosbyton Church of Christ, the Hospital Auxiliary, the Needle Point Club and the Crosbyton Sr. Citizens where she had served as secretary. She was a homemaker, had lived in Crosbyton all her life and played Bridge whenever she got the chance.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Don and Row Nickson of Crosbyton; a daughter and her husband, Carol and Larry Yowell of Crosbyton; a brother, Wade Collier of Crosbyton; a sister, Pauline Davies of Tucson, Arizona; eight grandchildren, Alan Nickson (Cindy) of Amarillo, Mark Nickson (Terri) of Canyon, Donna Sims (Doug) of Amarillo, Stephanie McIntosh (Jonathan) of Paris Island, SC, Wes Nickson of Austin, Virginia Neely (Jerry) of Rhome, Becky Shock (Jim) of Crosbyton, Lance Yowell (Kim) of Keller; 13 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Alan Nickson, Mark Nickson, Wes Nickson, Jim Shock, Coltin Shock, Doug Sims, Lance Yowell and Jonathan McIntosh.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to White River Youth Camp, P. O. Box 455 Crosbyton, Texas 79322.

Violet Caroline Steveson Vernon

Violet Caroline Steveson Vernon, age 87, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008 in Olton, Texas.

Funeral Services will be Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 at 2 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church in Plainview with the Rev. L.D. Hinson officiating and Rev. Harley D. Martin assisting. Graveside services will follow at the City of Levelland cemetery at 5 p.m. The family will receive guests Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Kornerstore Funeral Directors in Plainview. Personal services are being provided by Kornerstore Funeral Directors of Plainview, Texas.

Mrs. Vernon was born June 8, 1920 to Henry and Mellie (Taylor) Martin in Caddo County, Oklahoma near Anadarko, Okla. She attended schools in Omega, Oklahoma. She moved with her family by covered wagon to East Texas in November 1937. She was a lifetime member of the Assembly of God Church. She also lived in Brownwood before marrying Silvin R. Steveson April 27, 1941 and moving to Slaton. Later that year they moved to Levelland where they owned Steveson's Shoe Repair Service and Violet was the Assistant Chief Operator for General Telephone Company, retiring after 25 years of service in May of 1976. Silvin preceded her in death Jan. 3, 1963. Mrs. Vernon lived in Levelland from 1941 until 1986 when she moved to Plainview. She retired in Plainview to be near her only daughter and her family, living with them for over a year before moving to Olton.

She is survived by one daughter, Gretta Warrick and her husband Randy of Plainview; four grandchildren: Kacy Read and her husband Russ of Mill Creek, Wash., Peter Warrick and his wife Santana of Plainview, Emily Warrick of Plainview and Brenda Keener and her husband Greg of Sugar Land; six great-grandchildren: Remington Read, Sylven and Lakin Warrick, Kieryn Warrick, and Ryan and Kylie Kenner; She also leaves behind four sisters: Emma D Martin of San Angelo, Lillian Windham and her husband Raymon of Balch Springs, Lola B Cherry of Apache, Okla., and Christene Martin and her husband Harley of Ft. Worth; one brother, Luther A Martin and his wife Jane of Crowley; two brothers-in-law, S.K. Walker of Garland and E.T. Hinson of Seminole, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and their families whom she loved dearly.

Winfrey Charles Bell

Winfrey Charles Bell, of Midland, passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008. He was born on Halloween, Oct. 31, 1923 on a small farm in Stanton Texas; one of eleven children raised by Joseph and Nancy Bell. He enjoyed his childhood on the farm with his brothers and sisters and they remained close all their lives. He married Gladys Juanice Seay and the couple had two children together, daughter Lavonna, and a son Stacy, who he raised on his own farm in Tokio, Texas. After raising his children he embarked on a new phase of his life by establishing his own business, Bell Tank Trucks with his second wife, Jimmy Lee Youngblood. Winfrey continued to run the business until his retirement at the age of 72. After his retirement he lived with his son Stacy and his family in Lubbock. He enjoyed serving the Lord with his son in the children's ministries of Bethany Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member. Winfrey was a living example of the old west with a real love of Texas and a fierce independence. Winfrey "Tex" lived his life "his way" and took all the adventures of life head on. He never met a stranger and never backed down from a fight.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Bell III and Nancy Melissa Winfree Bell; sisters, Velma Henson Heidelberg, Isla Mae Ridings, Joy Pampinella and Lillian Heidelberg; brother, Newton Joseph (N.J.) Bell, Sr.; and former wives: Juanice Bell Davis and Jimmy Lee Bell. Winfrey is survived by his children, Lavonna Csutoras and husband Rick, of Edwardsville, Illinois and Stacy Bell and wife Debra, of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren, Michael Jarrod Shelton, Anissa Kolnicki, Jake Terrell, Kelly Martin, and Bryce Bell; great-grandchildren, Zachary Fields, Morgan Shelton and Payton Kolnicki; sisters, Evelyn Carpenter, Eugenia Heidelberg, Jeanne Nosker, Audrey Smith and husband Jay; and brother, Monty Bell and wife Norma; and several nieces and nephews

The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home on Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Funeral services have been scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen cemetery in Stanton, Texas. Pallbearers will be Nathan Heidelberg, Haden Heidelberg, Lee Bell, Newton Bell, Ronny Crawford, Clayton Bell, Dennis Crawford and Bruce Frazier.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Bethany Baptist Church children's ministries, 4402 40th Street, Lubbock, Texas 79414. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Highway, Midland, Texas 79701 (432) 683-5555.

Judy Burns

Judy Burns, 65, of Lubbock, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at home surrounded by her family. Chapel services for Judy will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008 at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Pastor Phil McClendon officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Judy Burns was born July 12, 1942 in Washington, D.C. to the late Randolph P. and Loretta (Lynch) Shackleford. She met her husband Donald Burns while he was serving in the United States Army and stationed in Washington, D.C. They were married March 19, 1969, in Lubbock. She retired from Sears after 20 years of employment. She liked traveling, reading and word puzzles as well as visiting with family and friends. She was Granny to the grandchildren that she loved and adored.

Those left to cherish her memory are daughter, Terri Russell and husband, Shane of Oakland, Tenn.; sons, Jimmy Burns and wife Krista, and David Burns and wife, Sherri, all of Lubbock; seven grandchildren; sister, Susan Cina and husband, Jim of Bridgeville, Del., brother Robert Shackleford and wife Gayle of Durwood, Md.; brother-in-law Ronald Burns and wife Linda of Seminole, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ruth Rowden

Services for Ruth Rowden, 89, of Wellman will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at Calvary Baptist Church, with Rev. Steve Carter officiating and Rev. Glen Smith assisting. Burial will be in Terry County Memorial cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Ruth passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 in Brownfield. She was born June 16, 1918 in Tye. She moved with her parents to Brownfield in 1923. She attended Union and Brownfield Schools. Ruth married R J Rowden, Oct. 1, 1938 in Tahoka. She was a member of Wellman PTA, Home Demonstration Club, Women's Missionary Union and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Ruth is preceded in death by a sister, Irma Lee Higgins, and a brother, Everett Brazelton.

Ruth is survived by her husband, R J of Wellman; a son, Lewayne Rowden and wife Liz of Wellman; a daughter, Joy Osborn and husband Steve of Big Spring; seven grandchildren, J Rowden and wife Stacy of Brownfield, Scott Rowden and wife Julie of Lubbock, Wade Rowden and wife Shanna of Lubbock, Sean Rowden and wife Karolen of Lubbock, Kristi Coleman and husband Jason of Ropesville, Jenny Breitschopf and husband Travis of Forsan and Kelli Osborn of Lubbock; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Wilson of Midland and Billie Martin of Royse City; and a caregiver, Sonya "Cookie" Harrell.

The family will have visitation from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Enrique Cirilo Loya

Services for Enrique Cirilo Loya will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lubbock First Seventh-Day Adventist Church with Elder Pedro Capetillo officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Wilsons' Funeral Directors of Wolfforth. He died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Highland Hospital. He was born October 22, 1910, in Yorktown, Texas. He married Gregoria Munoz November 3, 1934, in LaFeria, Texas. He was a member of the Church of God.

He was an avid outdoorsman. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a volunteer fireman in Edcouch, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Gregoria Loya of Lubbock; nine daughters, Elesbia Garcia of Lubbock, Stella Oja of Prineville, Ore., Arminda Brigman, Celia Green, and Gloria Richardson, all of Lubbock, Dora Milner of Seattle, Wash., Leonor Loya of Paige, Texas, Amparo Soukup of Montgomery, Minn., and Eva Simmons of Brownwood; two sons, George and Henry Loya, both of Lubbock; three brothers, David Loya of Chicago Heights, Ill., Eleazar Loya of Lubbock, and Elias Loya of Weslaco, Texas; two sisters, Irene Cantu of Stegar, Ill., and Elvira Wiggins of Arkansas; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to the Alzheimer's Association. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lubbock First Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Juanita Zant

Juanita Zant, beloved wife and mother of Lubbock and formerly of New Home, departed this life Feb. 7, 2008, at the age of 77. She was born on April 1, 1930, to William and Nancy Reed, in Ackerly. Juanita graduated from Ackerly High School in 1948. She married Oral Cates Zant shortly thereafter. In 1960, they moved to New Home from Ackerly. Juanita was a Christian, mother, housewife, and cotton farmer. Juanita moved to Lubbock in 1998, and resided at Quail Ridge and Wedgwood South. She was a long time member of the New Home Church of Christ.

Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Cates, in 1985; one son, Randy Zant, in 1976; and one sister, Ruby Ingram, in 2002. Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Vicki Lynn Zant of Lubbock; one son, Gaylan Zant of Dallas; and one brother, A.D. Reed of Ackerly.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at the New Home Church of Christ, with Billy Reed, Bruce Cotton, and Leonard Nettles officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Lubbock at 1102 Slide Road, Suite 3, Lubbock, TX 79416.

The family wishes to express its deep appreciation to the staff of Quail Ridge Alzheimer's Care Facility and of Wedgwood South, A.L. and to the Covenant 6th floor staff for their exceptional care and concern during Juanita's last days.

Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Tahoka.
