SERVICES: Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 5, 2003 at Fairview cemetery in Pampa with John Curry, officiating. Arrangements are by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin and Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.
BIOGRAPHY: Thelma's Texas roots are deep. Her grandmother, Sam Houston Ross, was named for the famous Texas general, Sam Houston, with whom her family fought the war for independence. Thelma was born in Lavernia, Texas on Dec. 20, 1903. As a young girl, she made a 1200-mile trek from San Antonio to eastern New Mexico where her father homesteaded 30 miles from the nearest town. The family later returned to Lavernia where she lived until she moved to San Antonio and attended Draughon's Business College. Until she married
, she worked as a secretary for an oil company. In November, 1929, she married
J. C. McWilliams with whom 3 sons and 1 daughter were born. For nearly 50 years, Thelma and "Mack" carved out a wonderfully active life in Pampa, Texas. They were extremely involved with their children, their church, their schools, their business, and community. They made the First Methodist Church their church home. At the time of her death, Thelma was a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin. A visionary, extraordinaire, Thelma devoted her life to raising her children to be well-educated, good citizens. She was a woman of great determination, dignity, grace, and refinement. No one could question her love and devotion to God, her husband, and children. The simple things she loved were music and homemaking. She was each grandchild's greatest fan and encouraged all of them to strive for excellence. She always told her children, "I love whomever you love, " evidenced in the way she treated her children's spouses. She was the model of the "virtuous woman" described in Proverbs 31 whose children "rise up and call her blessed." Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Willie Ross McClain; a brother, Gus Ripley McClain; her loving husband, J. C. McWilliams; and her sons, Joseph Clyde McWilliams and Larry Ross McWilliams.
SURVIVORS: 1 Daughter: Betty Lou Patterson of Oklahoma City; 1 Son: Kenneth Ripley McWilliams of Austin; 1 brother: O. G. McClain of Houston; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Lone Star Hospice, 1212 Palm Valley Blvd., Round Rock, Texas 78664 or to the local American Cancer Society.

R. C. Grider

BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Grider was born July 8, 1914 in Cooper, Texas to Robert Cornelius Grider and Audrey McClanahan Grider. His father was killed by a horse a few months before he was born and his mother later remarried
. He had three half-brothers, all of whom are deceased. Mr. Grider came to Pampa from Lubbock in the early 1930's seeking work in the oilfields during the Depression. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1933, and he and his fellow graduate, Mildred Holt, were married
on Nov. 25, 1936 in Pampa. She preceded him in death on Oct. 27, 1992. After a number of jobs, including working at the Lanora Theater, General Atlas Carbon Co. (now Cabot Corp.) hired him in 1938. He worked his way up to shift foreman and was employed by Cabot until his retirement in 1971. In 1950, Cabot sent him to Liverpool, England, to assist in the startup of a Cabot plant there, and this trip was one of the high points of his life. After retirement, he went to work part-time in circulation and advertising at the Pampa News. A member of Pampa Masonic Lodge #966 AF & AM since 1944, Mr. Grider was Worshipful Master in 1977-1978 and served as Worthy Patron of the Pampa Chapter #65 Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of of Borger Chapter #437, Royal Arch Masons. He belonged to both the York Rite and Scottish Rite and attained the 32nd degree. He celebrated 50 years as a Mason in 1994. He was also a member of the Khiva Shrine Temple in Amarillo. A lifetime Methodist, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pampa for over 60 years.
SURVIVORS: 1 son and daughter-in-law: Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Grider, III of Jackson, Mississippi; 1 daughter: Dr. Sylvia Grider of Bryan, Texas; 2 grandchildren: Robert C. Grider, IV of Nashville, Tennessee and Dendy Grider Magee of Jackson, MS; 2 great grandchildren: Davis Marshall Magee and Elizabeth Anne Magee, both of Jackson. He leaves behind many dear friends, especially the staff and residents at Meredith House; his brother-in-law, Ralph Milliron of Pampa; his beloved lodge brothers; and the members of First United Methodist Church.

BIOGRAPHY: Mrs. Beckham was born January 5, 1924 in Mountainair, New Mexico. She had been a resident of Pampa since 1925. She married
Harold Beckham on May 7, 1944 in Pampa. He preceded her in death in 1997. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was also a member of the Sonshine Club and the Sonshine Choir. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheri Rene Beckham in 1950.
SURVIVORS: Son: Richard L. Beckham & wife Marilyn of Houston. 1 Daughter: Cheryl (Cheri) Duggan & husband Bill of Missouri City. 4 Grandchildren: Amy Garcia and Lynn Rector, both of Amarillo, Steve Rector of the U. S. Air Force, and Matt Duggan of Missouri City; and 7 Great-Grandchildren.

BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Wilcox was born on July 10, 1961 in Dimmitt, Texas and was a 1979 graduate of Fort Stockton High School in Fort Stockton, Texas. He married
Pam Dietz on Sept. 10, 1982 in Cleo Springs, Oklahoma. He was a maintenance supervisor for Compressor Systems, Inc. for the past 7 years. He was a cowboy and active in junior rodeo with his children. Mr. Wilcox was a former member of Miami Masonic Lodge and was an active participant in bluegrass music.
SURVIVORS: Wife: Pam Wilcox of Cleo Springs, OK; 3 sons: John Wayne Wilcox of Miami, and Clayton Lee Wilcox and Thomas Lee Wilcox, both of Cleo Springs; his mother: Linda Byrd of Miami; his father: Joe L. Wilcox of Crane, TX; 1 brother: Dudley Wilcox of Crane; 1 sister: Jody Bebb of Clayton, NM; paternal grandmother: Christell Wilcox of Dimmitt; maternal grandmother: Eupha Mae Sorenson of Wheeler.

Fines Marchman, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Skellytown, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.
BIOGRAPHY: Mrs. Phillips was born February 10, 1928 in Missouri. She married
Raymond R. Phillips on February 28, 1949 in Stinnett. He preceded her in death on December 25, 1999. She had been a resident of Perryton for 40 years, moving to the McLean Care Center in 1999. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Perryton. She was a nurse's aide at the Senior Village Nursing Home in Perryton, retiring after 15 years of service. She was also a private duty nurse for several families in Perryton. She was a waitress for many years at The Ranchhouse and Dutch Inn restaurants.
SURVIVORS: 1 Son: Steve Phillips of Pampa. 2 Daughters: Linda Smith of Perryton and Patricia George of Enid, Oklahoma. 3 Brothers: Mike Hitchcock of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Joe Hitchcock of Oregon, and Perry Hitchcock of Arkansas. 6 Grandchildren, 5 Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Rolly Weldon "Jug" Hill
Rolly Weldon "Jug" Hill, 78, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2008, in Round Rock. Jug was born Nov. 17, 1929, in Eldorado, Okla., to Rolly W. and Ruby Richardson Hill. He graduated from Morton High School and farmed in Cochran County for many years before becoming a pilot, where he worked in Texas, Louisiana, Colorado, and the Middle East. In recent years, he had lived in the Marble Falls area.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, R.J. Hill. Survivors include daughter, Trezzelle Guess and husband Bob of Weatherford; son, Dub Hill and wife Jan of Round Rock; grandchildren, Jeff and Adam Guess, Amanda Hill, and Dean Clark; sisters, Mozelle "Blackie" Reynolds and husband J.C. of Morton, and Tressie Johnson and husband Jake of Ellicott, Colo.; and many other extended family members and friends.
Graveside services will be Saturday, March 29, at 2 p.m., at Morton Memorial cemetery in Morton.

Bertha Pauline West
Services for Bertha Pauline West, 83, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Meadow First Baptist Church, with Rev. Ken McClung officiating. Burial will be in Terry County Memorial cemetery under the Direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.
Pauline passed away Friday, March 21, 2008 in Lubbock. She was born July 12, 1924, to T. F. and Lena Hudson Pharries Yates, in Milam County. She was raised in Central Texas. She married
Melvern West in September of 1941 in Rosebud. He preceded her in death Feb. 16, 1995. They moved to Muleshoe in 1961 and to Tokio Community in Yoakum County in 1989. Pauline loved sewing, art and being with her family. She was a loving wife and mother who loved her children and grandchildren very much. She was a member of the Longview Baptist Church in Bailey County where she taught Sunday School.
Pauline is survived by three daughters, Paula Phillips of Lubbock, Donna Moore of Lubbock, Debbie Parmer and her husband David of Texico; four sons, Melvin West and his wife Margie of Meadow, Garry West of Plains, Danny West and his wife Jackie of Dumas and Byron West and his wife Tresa of Brownfield; 19 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Leo Yates of Cameron and James Yates of Waco and two sisters, Pearl Mayor of Cameron and May Santos of Harker Heights also survive.
