Acie Deuce Lee Price
Services for Acie "Deuce" Lee Price, 73, of Lubbock will be 10 a.m., Friday, March 28, 2008 at Sanders Memorial Chapel with Floyd Price officiating. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
A wake service will be held Thursday, from 6 until 8 p.m., at Sanders Funeral Home.
Acie passed away, Sunday, March 23, 2008.
He was born Dec. 27, 1934 in Shallowater, Texas to the late Loveis and Rita Price and married
Ada McHaney on Sept. 23, 1962 in Lubbock. Acie worked as a mechanic for Fenner Tubbs Company/Spirit Chrysler for 36 years; the last ten years as a courtesy driver.
Acie is survived by his wife, Ada; children, Tommy Price and wife, Norma of Abilene, Terry Price and wife, Sabrinda, and Jackie Hutchings and husband, Orlando all of Lubbock; grandchildren, Rachel Hutchings, Crystal Gonzalez and husband, Lucas, Thomas Price, Jr., Joseph Price, Jordan Price, May Lee Price, and Terris Price; five brothers, Clyde of Arlington, Floyd and Theodore of Lubbock, Eddy Dean of New Boston, Texas, and Bobby of Lubbock.
He is preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
Memorials can be made to Joe Arrington Cancer Center.
Betty Lue Wagner Jennings
Betty Lue Wagner Jennings of Lubbock departed this life on March 24, 2008 at the age of 81 years. She was born on July 27, 1926 in Denison, Texas to Harry and Blanche Wagner. She attended Denison High School, graduating in 1943. On Oct. 16, 1947, Betty married
Henry P. Jennings, Jr. at the First Baptist Church in Denison. They lived in Lubbock from 1963 to 1986. They moved to Lake Texoma in 1986, and resided there until 1994. In 1994, they returned to Lubbock.
Betty was a housewife and floral designer at College Flowers. She had a great love of flowers and taught Floral Design at South Plains College. She loved to travel and see the cultures of the world. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lubbock.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 60 years; one daughter, Pamela Jackson and husband Joe of Elk City, Oklahoma; two sons, Jon C. Jennings and wife Pam of Wesminster, Texas and Andrew P. Jennings and wife Roberta of Thornton, Colorado; one sister, Martha L. Wagner of Denison; eight grandchildren, Jeremiah Jackson and wife Allison, Julie Mosier and husband Glynn, Christine Jackson, Cristy Jennings, Jarrod Doan, Brandon Doan, Logal Schmidt, and Dustin Schmidt; and five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Darian, Ethan, Drew, and Alexis.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Ford Chapel at First Baptist Church of Lubbock, with Reverend John Ballard officiating. Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 28, 2008 at Fairview cemetery Chapel in Denison.
Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.
David Coke Dickey
Services for David Coke Dickey of Bedford were held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Waples United Methodist Church, with Dr. Jim Bowden officiating.
David was born at Perrin AFB Hospital on April 29, 1962 and grew up in Denison. He graduated from Denison High School and attended Grayson County College. David was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved boating on Lake Texoma. He could build or repair anything. He had a wonderful sense of humor and he lived life to the fullest. Eventually, he moved to Lubbock where he owned his own company, American Mobil Car Wash. More recently, he lived and worked in Bedford where he was active in Intentional Gathering Ministries.
David is survived by three daughters, Katherine Elizabeth, Madison Leanne, and Chandler Coke. Each time he was with them, their special parting phrase was: "I love you all the way to eternity and back again." He is also survived by his mother, Joanne Dickey-Caldwell and husband James; father, Dr. John Coke Dickey and wife Shere Forkner-Dickey; former wife, Debbie Dickey-Pate and husband Gary. David is also survived by a loving sister, Denise Andes and husband Ron; loving brothers, Jeffrey Dickey-Chasins and wife Harriett and Charles Dickey. In addition, he is survived by four nieces, two nephews, many cousins, and aunts and uncles, Mary Lou and Lee South and Leland and Francine Robinson; and spherical friends, Pastor Bob and Ann Crowell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Waples UMC in Denison, St John's Methodist in Lubbock or Intentional Ministries, 3500 Pecan Circle, Bedford, TX 76021. Arrangements are under the direction of Bratcher Funeral Home.
Doris Stalcup
Funeral services of Doris Stalcup, 72, of Lubbock will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008 in Englunds Chapel with Rev. Vernon Rhoads of Trinity Church officiating. Interment will follow in Slaton's Englewood cemetery and under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service in Slaton.
Doris was born May 31, 1935 in Greenville, Texas to Bonnie and Rueben Duncan. She passed from this life Monday, March 24, 2008 after a lengthy illness. Doris moved to Lubbock from Greenville with her family in 1947 and attended Lubbock High School. She married
John R. Stalcup on Aug. 3, 1951 in Lubbock. They lived together, loved together, worked together and played together for 56 years.
She was extremely successful in the Senior Games competing in the World Games, two State Games and two National Games. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her father and brother, James L. Duncan.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, John, and son, Joseph and daughter, Cindy Walker; her mother, Bonnie, all of Lubbock; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Frank Leon Bartlett
Frank Leon Bartlett was born Jan. 1, 1923 at Hollis, Okla., to Lela and Hiram Bartlett. Frank was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served from 1943-45, mainly in Europe, earning 5 battle stars. In 1948 he graduated from Oklahoma A & M in Sweetwater, Okla. Frank retired in 1984 after 34 years of service in the field of education. He taught school at Cyril, Oklahoma, Stratford, and Abernathy, Texas. For 14 of those years he enjoyed being a principal at the junior high school in Abernathy, Texas. He married
Georgia Holleman on May 31, 1946, in Hollis, Okla.
He is survived by his wife, his son Frank Bartlett, Jr. and Kay of Greenwood; and daughter Virginia and Eddie Weaver of Breckenridge; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Abernathy with John Lowrie officiating. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, Texas.
Irene Brians Mann
Irene Brians Mann, 87, of Clarendon died Monday, March 24, 2008 in Lubbock. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008 in the Clarendon Church of Christ with Bright Newhouse, Minister of the Hedley Church of Christ, officiating.
Interment will be in Citizens cemetery in Clarendon.
Arrangements are under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Mrs. Mann was born June 8, 1920 to Frank Everett and Emily Amanda Medlin Brians. She married
Gordon V. Mann on Feb. 28, 1937 at Childress. She was a long time resident of Clarendon before moving to Lubbock a few years ago. She was the Secretary at Clarendon Mfg. & Distributing Co. for 15 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Clarendon Church of Christ.
He is preceded in death by her parents, her husband on April 21, 1991; two sons, Wayne Mann on July 29, 1971 and Glenn Alan Mann on May 11, 2006; and a grandson, Scott Bobbitt on May 11, 2005.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley Kay and Emmett Bobbitt of Lubbock; three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Joe Frank Currey
Joe Frank Currey passed to eternal life on March 23, 2008, after a lengthy illness. He fought a courageous battle he could not win. Frank was born April 1, 1928 in Borden Co. Texas. He married
Wilma Dabney Currey on Oct. 23, 1946. Frank was a farmer/rancher in Borden County. He raised purebred livestock on the land his grandfather settled in the War of Ribbons in 1902. Frank was in the Marine Corp, and was very proud of being a Veteran of WWII. He was County Commissioner of Borden County, Precinct I for twelve years. Frank was a member of the Draw Methodist Church. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend; he had four great-grandchildren whom he called the greatest!
He is survived by his loving wife, Wilma Dabney Currey; two daughters Diana Currey Mitchell of Gallatin, Tennessee, Donna Currey Barnes of Lubbock; two grandchildren, Bryan Ray Barnes and wife, Jami, of Dawson County, Danisha Dawn Barnes of Lubbock; four great-grandchildren, Whitney, Brayden, Kaitlyn, Justin Barnes; a sister, Occo Dickson of Hobbs New Mexico, numerous nieces and nephews. An honorable man, Frank will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Graveside services will be held in Gail, Texas on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.
Lucia Francisca Morales
Funeral services for Lucia Francisca Morales, 21, of Lubbock will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Guajardo Funeral Chapels.
Evening service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Guajardo Funeral Chapels. Burial will be at City of Lubbock cemetery under the direction of Guajardo Funeral Chapels. She died on Friday, March 21, 2008. She was born on Sept. 30, 1986 in Lubbock, Texas.
She graduated at Coronado High School in 2005. Lucia was a very caring and positive person, never thinking of herself. She was a very out going person and lived life to its fullest.
Survivors include her parents, Jose and Lupe Morales; three brothers, Luis Robles, Jose Morales Jr. and Edward Morales; three sisters, Melissa Lopez, Sylvia Luna and Belinda Davila; her grandmother, Silveria Luna; five nephews and four nieces.
Nell Cromer
Nell Cromer, 81, went home to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008, in Lubbock, Texas. Her parents, F. S. and Myrtle West welcomed her birth on May 19, 1926, in Midland, Texas. Nell grew up in the Midland area and attended Odessa College and Texas University at Austin.
Nell married
William Cromer on April 10, 1958. They moved to Lubbock, Texas, the next year. She and "Bill" owned the Poco Taco Restaurants in Lubbock and were active in the Texas Restaurant Association until he preceded her in death in 1992.
Besides her family, Nell had two great loves: traveling and cooking. Her travels took her to all fifty states plus eighteen foreign countries. Her culinary masterpieces not only delighted her family but won recognition at local and state fairs in Texas and Alaska. Her husband confessed that he never missed his mother's home cooking because Nell was such an expert.
As long as Nell was able to cook, a warm cobbler or big bowl of tapioca pudding always awaited her children, grandchildren, and other family members when they visited her home. She often said that our Lord had promised her the privilege of cooking the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. She has gone before us to start the preparations. We expect she will greet us with a smile and a big bowl of a heavenly delight when our time comes to pass from this world.
Nell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sister, Crystal Clements.
Those left to cherish her memory are two sons: Warren Newberry and his wife Annette of Springfield, Missouri, David Newberry of Dallas, Texas, a daughter, Janice Collins and her husband, Robert, of Anchorage, Alaska; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a nephew, two nieces, and two grandnephews.
Services are scheduled for 10:45 a.m., Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Neil Chapel located at the Carillon Lifecare Community, 1717 Norfolk Avenue in Lubbock, Texas. Her sons, Rev. Warren Newberry and Rev. David Newberry will officiate with Rev. Tom Lakey and Rev. John Murdoch assisting. Visitation for family and friends will be 5 -7 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2008. Nell will be buried beside her husband at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock.
Pallbearers will include Rev. John Murdoch, Rev. Chris Murdoch and three of her grandsons: Michael Newberry, Darin Newberry, and Brent Newberry. Honorary pallbearers are Calvin Clements, her brother-in-law; Melvin Clements, her nephew, Steve Smith, her grandson, and Puryear Thomson, a longtime family friend.
Nell's family wishes to express appreciation to Carillon and VistaCare facilities for their kind and compassionate care during her stay there.
