Tyree Woodard

Memorial services for Tyree Woodard, Sr. will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at W.W. Rix Chapel with Mr. Herman Boone presiding. He died March 31, 2003.

Mr. Woodard was born in Mott, Texas on Oct. 10, 1927, and moved to Lubbock in 1949. He married Annie Perkins on March 6, 1963 in Marlin, Texas. He was a diesel mechanic for 26 years before retiring in 1990.

He is preceeded in death by his father, Van Woodard, mother, Roxie Melvin Woodard, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Tyree, Jr and Roy Perkins; eight daughters, Felecia Jordan, Loneta Bailey, Roxie Jones, Peggy Woodard, Vergie Perkins, Chloe Purifoy, Brenda Taylor and Lawanda Walker; three brothers, Randolph, Roy Lee and Floyd; seven sisters, Doris Parrish, Gladys Hines, Naomi Taylor, Erma Jewel Wade, Willie Faye Woodard, Barbara Ann Woodard and Joyce Marie Allen; 32 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Dominga Casias

Dominga G. Casisa was born April 23, 1907 in Seguin, Texas to Domingo and Bernarda Gonzales.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bartolo B. Casias and four daughters, Emilia Cervantez, Tomasa Cervantez, Maria Diaz, and Lupe Moreno. She was a Crucillista and member of The Guadalupana Society in Lorenzo and Hereford. She moved to Lubbock in 1998 where she was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church..

She is survived by 1 son: Jesse Casias of Lubbock; 4 daughters: Antonia Diaz of Hereford, Jovita Aguilar of Amarillo, Linda Lopez of Lubbock, Margie Polanco, of Post; 1 sister: Rita Garza, of Friona; 54 grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren, 7 great great-grandchildren:

Richard Esquivel

Richard Esquivel was born on September 11, 1929 in Winters, Texas to Antonio and Aurelia Esquivel. He married Herminia Quirino on August 6, 1948 in Clovis, New Mexico. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in Amarillo, Texas on July 10, 1952. He was employed by Milburn Motors for many years, then by Consumers Fuel Co-op for 10 years and retired in 1985 from Poarch Bros. Manufacturing after working there over 14 years. He was a member of La Iglesia de San Jose.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Esmeralda San Miguel and husband J. D. of Hereford, Texas; two brothers, Jessie Esquivel of Heyburn, Idaho and Tony Esquivel of Caldwell, Idaho; a sister, Minerva Valerio of Rupert Idaho; four grandchildren, Vanessa Garcia, Joshua Garcia, J. D. San Miguel and Jacob San Miguel and one great grandchild, Ace Garcia.

Mr. Esquivel died on Saturday, March 9, 2002 at the age of 72.

Grace Guy

GRACE M. GUY was the fourth of four daughters born to Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Moore, a pioneer family of Matador in Motley County. She was active for many years in the First Presbyterian Church of Lubbock, serving as a volunteer in many church programs as well as participating in women’s groups and Bible study groups.

Grace was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of Texas. She previously participated in the PEO and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Women’s Department of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce and was one of the original volunteers for the Rotary Club of Lubbock’s Cerebral Palsy Center and the Presbyterian Church Food Bank.

She became interested in alcohol-and-drug abuse efforts more than 50 years ago, long before helping the victims of such diseases was in vogue.

She traveled extensively with her husband, visiting Europe on several occasions as well as other parts of the world. They were guests of several presidents in the White House and were well-acquainted with state and national office-holders.

After her husband’s death, she continued to travel extensively. She made trips all over the world with her granddaughter, Victoria Guy of Denton.

She had been a strong supporter of Texas Tech, donating money to several scholarships, including those named for her husband and sons.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles A. Guy, Jr. and a grandson, Charles A. Guy, II.

Survivors include two sons, Dorrance H. Guy and wife, Jane of Aledo and George M. Guy and wife, Leslie of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Victoria Guy, Ray M. Guy, Phyllis Guy Dorazio and Julie Guy Helms; and six great great grandchildren, Niki, Kristin, Jaclynn, Kathlynn, Christina and Katelynn.

Mrs. Guy died Saturday, March 9, 2002 at the age of 95.

Janie Nino

Janie Nino was born February 11, 1956 in Hereford, Texas to Alfonso and Irene Limas. She was raised and attended schools in Hereford, Texas. She graduated from Hereford High School in 1974 and from West Texas State University in 1982. She married John Nino on July 24, 1978 in Hereford. She was employed by Hereford Independent School District as a 4th grade teacher at Bluebonnet Intermediate School. Janie was President of Classroom Teachers Association, a member of Campfire Girls (and later served as leader for her daughters), and Deaf Smith County Chamber of Commerce Desert Storm Coordinator honoring active service men and women from Hereford. She was awarded the Bull Chip Award for all her work on the Desert Storm Project. She was a member of the Town and Country Jubilee and 4th of July Celebration Committee. She served as a Volunteer and Team Captain (her group of teenagers raised the most money one year) for Relay for Life, and a member of American Cancer Society, she served as Breast Awareness Chairperson. She was a member of Mission Bautista Nueva Vida.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Natalie Nino and Penny Nino both of Hereford, Texas; her mother, Irene Limas of Hereford, Texas; three brothers, Alfonso Limas of Dallas, Texas, Louis Limas of Grapevine, Texas and Jimmy of Waco, Texas; four sisters, Virginia Nunez of El Paso, Texas, Martha Limas, Mercedes Perez and Annette Villarreal all of Hereford, Texas.

Janie Nino died on Monday, March 11, 2002 at the age of 46.

Jeanette C. Hewitt

Jeanette C. Hewitt was born January 18, 1920 in Union, MO. She attended William Woods College in Fulton, MO where she received an Associate in Arts degree. She married A. Lee Hewitt in 1944 in St. Louis, MO. They lived in St. Louis and Japan before settling in Lubbock in 1949, where they raised three daughters. She was active in the Lubbock Medical Alliance, the Woman’s Club, P.E.O. Chapter CF and Questers Class at First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include husband, A. Lee Hewitt, three daughters, Susan and Don Chapman of Austin, Marilee and Jeff Harp of Ft. Worth and Sally and Robert Jones of Lubbock, one brother, James and Carlyss Cardwell of Tampa Florida and 8 grandchildren, Chad, Chris and Chase Jones, Amanda Chapman, Julie, Joanna, Andy and Emily Harp.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Lubbock, P.O. Box 53276, Lubbock, TX 79453

Mrs. Hewitt died Monday March 4, 2002 at the age of 82.

Bertha Farrar

Bertha Farrar, known as “Bet” to her family and friends was born September 20, 1902, in Providence, R.I., and had been a resident of Warwick, R. I. from 1904 until 1978, when she moved Lubbock. She was a charter member of the Eastern Star Signet Chapter 21. Mrs. Farrar had been a Communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Warwick, R. I., and St. Paul’s on the Plains Episcopal Church in Lubbock.

Survivors include her daughter, Gwen Murphy, and her husband, Donald of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Donna, Barbara, Stephen, and Robert; seven great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren.

Committal services will be in North Burial Ground cemetery in Providence, R. I.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to St. Paul’s on the Plains Church, Box 2686, Lubbock 79208, or St. Mary’s in Warwick, R. I., 02886

Mrs. Farrar died Friday, March 28, 2003.

Jesus Escamilla

Jesus Escamilla was born October 4, 1914, in Charlotte, Texas to Luz and Petra Escamilla. He worked as a farm laborer and had operated a service station. He married Gregoria Arredondo July 3, 1935 in Pearsall, Texas. Mr. Escamilla was a member of La Iglesia de San Jose.

He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Escamilla, a daughter, Anita Escamilla and six brothers.

He is survived by his wife; six sons, Juan, Alfonso, Jesse and Antonio all of Hereford, Oscar of Farmers Branch and George of Amarillo; five daughters, Alicia Gonzales of Haslett, MI, Mary Moralez and Angie Pina both of Hereford, Eva Casarez of Amarillo and Francis Lopez of Lubbock; 45 grandchildren, 86 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial to the St. Anthony’s School Endowment Fund.

Mr. Escamilla died Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at the age of 88.

Bertie Muse

Bertie Muse was born on May 8, 1909 in Cooper, Texas, and married Audie Lee Muse on December 21, 1928 in Floydada, Texas. He preceded her in death October 6, 1988. She lived in Lubbock from 1940 until 1963, then in House, New Mexico until 1988 and in Canyon for the past 4 years. She owned and operated Muse Convalescent Home in Lubbock. She was a Seventh Day Adventist.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, Clinton L. Muse, January 1, 1989, and Winifred Muse, August 20, 1999.

She is survived by a daughter, Nettie Reed of Arlington; a son Alton Muse of Hale Center; two brothers, Walter A. Goodgoin of Lubbock and Estle Goodgoin of Plainview; two sisters, Florence Taft of Lubbock and Bonnie Yandell of Honey Grove; twelve grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She died Monday, March 24, 2003 in Amarillo at the age of 93.

William H. (Bill) Walton

William Hicks (Bill) Walton, 63, of Dallas, Texas, was born December 18, 1939, in Lubbock County, Texas, to Newton and Mary Walton. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Texas Tech University and worked at the Mercantile Bank in Dallas and later opened and managed the Dallas branch of I.W. Burham and Company, a New York investment firm for 15 years before starting a new career in oil and gas drilling and development, most recently as Pinewood Exploration, Inc.

Mr. Walton is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Walton, of Lubbock; a sister, Lynn Walton Witcher; a nephew, Greg Mundy and wife Michelle; and one grand-niece, Kendall Mundy, all of Austin, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a favorite charity in Mr. Walton’s name.

He passed away March 24, 2003, in Dallas.

Beverly Mae Richardson Marcy

Beverly Mae Richardson Marcy was born in Kingman Arizona on February 28, 1934. Beverly is survived by her husband, William M. Marcy, her son Geoffrey D. Marcy of Lubbock, her sister Corinne Woollard of Redding California and her sister Connie Lowgren of Morro Bay, California.

Beverly was a member of First Christian Church in Lubbock. She served for more than 10 years as a volunteer at University Medical Center. Through her volunteer work at UMC she was very active in fund raising for the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon. She was also an active member of the University Women’s Club at Texas Tech University.

Before her marriage Beverly served for 14 years as a staff member of the US Central Intelligence Agency. She had tours of duty in Munich Germany, Ottawa Canada, Tokyo Japan and Santiago Chile where she met her husband Bill. Beverly and Bill were married in the Judge’s Chambers in Charlotte, Amalie Virgin Islands on August 9, 1968.

Beverly’s service to her country exemplified both her patriotism and her sense of adventure. She is one of the many unsung heroes of the cold war.

Beverly was an expert skier. She picked her overseas assignments in part by access to skiing. She grew up in the mountains and red wood forests of California. She loved to be out in nature. Her father, Milan C. Richardson, was a mining engineer who took his family into the mountains of California for many vacations and trips to mining properties that he supervised. Her family’s favorite spot was Red Wood Canyon in Sequoia National Forest.

The family requests that memorials to Beverly be in the form a contribution to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th Street New York, NY 10032 (212) 923-4700.
