Sonia L. Douglas
SONIA LOPEZ DOUGLAS was born August 7, 1952 in Weslaco, Texas, to Pedro Daniel and Trinidad Molina Lopez. She moved to Lubbock from Morton in 1962. She had been employed by Texas Tech University, Lubbock M H & M R, and Goodwill Industries before retiring. She was a member of Westmont Christian Church. She married
Don H. Douglas in Lubbock May 29, 1995.
Survivors include her husband; five sisters, Sylvia Lopez, of Houston, Maria Lopez, of Whitney, Laura Lopez, of Lubbock, Thelma Lopez, of Ruidoso, N. M. and Nelda Lopez, of Hopkins, South Carolina; three brothers, Pete Lopez, of Lubbock, James Steven Lopez and Milton Lopez, both of Kerrville.
Memorials are suggested to a favorite charity.
Sonia died Friday, May 24, 2002 at the age of 49.
Dr. Maurice J. Healy
Dr. Maurice J. Healy was born Sept. 24, 1914 in Boone, Iowa to Dr. and Mrs. Maurice A. Healy. He attended Boone Junior College and Iowa State University. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa School of Medicine. He had practiced in Boone with his farther prior to service in the U. S. Army from 1941 - 1945 during World War II. He married
Wilfred Dixon in Oakdale, La. August 1, 1941. They moved to Lubbock in 1950 where he practiced until retiring at the age of 65. Following retirement, he practiced at the Veteran’s Administration Clinic in Lubbock until 1998. He was a member of the Lubbock - Crosby - Garza County Medical Society and the American Academy of Ophthamology.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Maurice D. Healy, of Richardson, Texas and Dr. John P. Healy of San Antonio; a brother, Dr. Lynn E. Healy of Allred, Tenn and seven grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the Friends of the Library.
He died Monday, May 20, 2002, in Covenant Medical Center.
Clinton Green
Clinton Green was born August 23, 1911 to Ernie and Mary Green in Holland, Tx. He married
Ethel Callicutt in Lubbock on November 27, 1936. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Army. He was employed as a miller for Economy Mills for 25 years, retiring in 1971. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by a son, Clinton David, Jr. in 1938.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel of Lubbock; a son, Allen of Ft. Worth; a grandson, Marshall of Houston; 2 great grandchildren, Ryan and Austin, both of Ft. Worth.
Mr. Green died Wednesday, May 22, 2002.
Laverne Haught
LaVerne Haught was born May 16, 1922, in Elbert to Henry C. and Fannie Carr. She had been a resident of Shallowater since 1948 moving from Smyer. She graduated from Smyer High School in 1939 and was a homemaker. She married
Berlin Haught, August 30, 1941, in Smyer and he preceded her in death March 21, 1999. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shallowater and a charter member of the Builders Sunday School Class.
Survivors include two daughters, Evonne Haught of Shallowater and Trena Holmes of King City, California; her son, Dorrance Haught of Union, Missouri; four grandchildren, Danett Amshler, Suanne Miller, Drew Haught, and Dorcas Haught; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Gray of Llano and Mrs. Joyce Pate of Fort Worth.
Mrs. Haught died Sunday, May 19, 2002 at the age of 80.
Monica Ann Pavlicek
Monica Ann Pavlicek was a Lubbock Native, born here July 19, 1958, and was a graduate of the Lubbock High School for the homebound.
Survivors include her mother, Gladys Pavlicek and one sister, Paula Jean Pavlicek, both of Lubbock.
She died Thursday, March 28, 2002.
Mary Vaughn Forrest
Mary Vaughn Forrest was born August 27, 1898 in Tecumseh, Ok and had been a resident of Lubbock since 1949. she married
John Farris Vaughan in 1920. He died June 16, 1950. She married
George Bowers Forrest in May of 1957. He died in 1979. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was active in the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School.
Survivors include 2 sons, Bob Vaughan of Lubbock and Farris Vaughan of Carlsbad, N.M.; a daughter, Lila Lear of Hayfork, Calif.; a sister, Hattie Nofsker of Carlsbad, N.M.; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
She died Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at the age of 103.
Audrey E. McGuire
AUDREY EDNA McGUIRE was born November 19, 1911 in Haskell County to Ira and Effie May Winningham Griffith. She moved with her parents to County Line in 1922. She was a member of the Lawrence Avenue Church of Christ and the County Line Quilting Club.
She was married
to Martin Mc Guire in Littlefield November 24, 1928. He died Sept. 19, 1964. Also preceding her in death were two children, Joy Dean and a baby boy, a grandchild, De Linda; three brothers, Delbert, Vernon and Frank, and nthree sisters, Crystal, Marie and Velma.
Survivors include two sons; Donald and wife Jo Ann, of Muleshoe and Derl and wife Frances, of Shallowater; a daughter, Carolyn and husband Doyce Woods of Shallowater; a sister, Dell Perrin, of Valle D’Oro, Texas; six grandchildren, Marty, Diane, Wayne, Dean, Darla and Gib; seventeen great grandchildren, Ray, Rhae, Amy, Shea, Megan, Blair, Ryan, Jennifer, Alicia, Camille, Matthew, Corby, Weston, Tate, Tyse, Trey and Chance and eight great, great grandchildren.
Mrs. McGuire died Friday, March 1, 2002 at the age of 90.
Mason Lynn Lambert
Mason Lynn Lambert, Infant Son of Shane Lambert and Kim Perkey of Hereford was stillborn Monday September 29, 2003 at Hereford Regional Medical center. Graveside Services will be 2:00 PM. Wednesday October 1, 2003 in West Park cemetery with Rev. Terry Cosby Pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Under the Direction of Rix Funeral Directors.
Surviving family members include his parents; a half sister, Jonnah Leigh Lambert of Amarillo; Paternal Grandparents, Jack and Kim Lambert of Amarillo; Maternal Grandparents: Don Perkey of Hereford and Deborah Stinson of Lubbock; Great Grand Parents: Mary Weil of Lubbock and Paul and Ruth Perkey of Hollis, Ok.; Great Great Grandmother: Mrs. B.L. Ford of Hollis Ok
Jackie Dean Craig
Jackie Dean Craig was born July 9, 1936 in Talihina, Oklahoma. He married
Zella Moose on August 30, 1958 in Lubbock. He was a sign painter for the City of Lubbock for 38 years, retiring in 1998 and still working two days a week.
Jackie is survived by his wife, Zella; 4 daughters, Judy Ballou, Janet Mosqueda and Sue Craig all of Lubbock and Terri Craig of Denver, Co.; 3 sons, Joey Dean Craig and Michael Ballou both of Lubbock and Jimmy Craig of Denver, Co.; 8 grandchildren, Sandra, April, Sharen, Jeremy, Joshua, Bambi, Brandon and Brian; 2 great grandchildren, A.J. and Jace; 2 sisters, Joyce and Jannet; and a brother Jerry.
LaVerne M. Ray
LaVerne Morris Ray graduated from Our Lady of Victory Academy in Ft. Worth and married
Earl Ray on September 18, 1931 in Carlsbad. NM. He died March 24, 1995.
LaVerne worked as office manager at Earl Ray Music Co. that was owned and operated by she and her husband. She was past president of Lubbock High School band booster club; honorary band parent of Monterey High School band and an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma. Her memberships included the Business and Professional Women’s club, Credit Managers Association, South Plains Quilter’s Guild, Eastern Star, Second Baptist Church and Adult One Sunday School class.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Tracy Wancho of Cedar Park and Pamela Ray of Capitan, NM. She was preceded in death by a son, Bob L. Ray and two brothers, William Burton and Skeet Morris.
The family suggests memorials to the Texas Tech Institutional Advancement Fund, P.O. Box 1081, Lubbock, Texas 79409-5011. Please make a notation inside envelope specifying the name of LaVerne Ray and Texas Tech Band Scholorship Fund.
Mrs. Ray died Wednesday, August 28, 2003 at the age of 89.
Harmon Loyd Morgan
Harmon Loyd Morgan was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma to John H. and Gladys F. Morgan. Growing up in Oklahoma, he was in the Navy during World War II. After the war, he continued working in Journalism as an editor on several Oklahoma newspapers. He then decided to go into teaching earning his masters degree from the University of Oklahoma and his doctorate from the University of Southern Illinois. Harmon taught at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas in the Mass Communications Department for 24 years before retiring. He was an ardent supporter of the Texas Tech Lady Raiders basketball team.
Harmon is survived in his immediate family by his wife, Lucinda, his son, John, his daughter, Lisa, and a grandson J. Heath as well as several other relatives.
Mr. Morgan died on Sunday June 29, 2003.
Eunice C. Cloyd
Eunice C. Cloyd was born February 27, 1918 in Bishop Alabama and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1938, where she played basketball and volley ball. She was married
to Andrew E. Cloyd, Jr., in Lubbock October 4, 1951 and he died January 11, 2000. She was a homemaker and had been employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone for a 10 year period. She had lived in Lubbock, then in Sweetwater from 1967 until 1997, when she moved back to Lubbock.
Her surviving family members are her daughter, Brenda Kay O’Briant, of Lubbock; a granddaughter, Camile O’Briant, of Los Angeles, California; a sister, Edith Theredge, of Lubbock, two sisters in law, Mrs. Phillip Hall of Lubbock and Mrs. Elaine Garrett, of San Angelo and several nieces and nephews including Ronald French, of Lubbock.
She died July 4, 2003 in IHS Hospital, Lubbock, Texas.
