William E. Bales

Services for William E. Bales, 80, of Lubbock, will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 1 p.m. in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with David Diggs, officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven.

Mr. Bales passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2008.

William was born on May 16, 1927 in Idalou to Isaac and Mary Strickland Bales. He married Frances Grimes on April 18, 1951 in Clovis, NM and retired in 1989, after 35 years with TNM&O; Maintenance Dept. He was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Ron and wife, Shirley Bales, of Round Rock; four daughters, Sharla and husband, Martin Nunley, Debbie Cate, Terri and husband, Joe Rousseau, all of Lubbock, and Patricia Sturm, of Victoria; one brother, Floyd Bales, of Midland; nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, from 6:30-8 p.m.

Rodney LeMar Roberson

Rodney LeMar Roberson, 37, of Lubbock passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Covenant.

Rodney was born Sept. 16, 1970 to Reverend Jimmy E. Roberson and Missionary Ora L. Brown. Rodney grew up in Lubbock and attended Hunt, Posey, and Stubbs Elementary and later moved on to Alderson Jr. High School. He later graduated from Estacado High School. While attending high school, Rodney participated in Student Council, National Jr. Honor Society, varsity football, basketball, and track. He received a track scholarship to Texas Tech University where he majored in Computer Information Systems. He later transferred to the University of Houston. After his college years, Rodney resided in Houston, Dallas, and Denver, Colo. for the younger part of his life. Upon returning home to Lubbock, Rodney became employed for Texas Tech Health Science in the Department of Psychology. He relocated to University Medical Center in Patient Services. While maintaining a healthcare profession, Rodney became employed for Covenant Medical Center and Covenant Lakeside. Rodney's final years of employment were with McLane Company, Inc.

To carry on his memory, Rodney leaves two daughters, DejaNe and Arianna Roberson; his mother, Missionary Ora L. Brown; his father, Reverend Jimmy E. Roberson (Ocie); his sisters, Vickie Roberson-Cooper (Tommy) and Kimberly Brown; his brother, Quincy Roberson; his niece, Alexus Cooper; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Service will be held Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 2 p.m., at Agape Temple Church of God in Christ. Burial will follow at Peaceful Garden cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.

Family will receive friends from 1-7 p.m. today at Griffin Mortuary.

Lorine Daniel

Ruth Lorine Everett Daniel died April 2, 2008, in Lubbock. Born Dec. 4, 1915, in Denison, she was a public school educator for 40 years. She attended the University of North Texas and began teaching in 1935. In 1937, she married Benge Robert Daniel. With her sister Viola Brice, Lorine started the public school in the Golden Rule Community in 1940. The Daniel family moved to Lubbock in 1950. Lorine then taught in the Lubbock public school system. A member of First United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday School there for 20 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Jan Daniel Garverick, of San Antonio; and her son, Dr. Benge R. Daniel, Jr., of Fort Worth.

At Lorine's request, her body was donated to the Texas Tech Medical School.

The family requests memorial gifts sent to the First United Methodist Church Friends of Music in Lubbock.

Kenyon Elizah Bailey

Kenyon Elizah Bailey passed away Monday, March 31, 2008 at Covenant Lakeside. He was born March 31, 2008 to Timothy and Roxie Bailey. He leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Timothy and Roxie Bailey; his sister, Lakiesha Bailey; his brothers, Timothy Bailey, Jr., Christopher, Jones and Talon Jones, all of Lubbock; his grandparents, Annie Woodard, Bobby and Patricia Walker, all of Lubbock; his great-grandmother, Emma Rowe, also of Lubbock; a host of aunts, uncles cousins, and dearly cherished friends.

Service will be 12 p.m. Saturday April 5, 2008 at Griffin Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at Peaceful Garden cemetery, under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.

Kellas Manning Davis

Kellas Manning Davis, 74, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, in Abilene. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at the O'Donnell cemetery in O'Donnell.

Kel was born on Dec. 6, 1933 in Comanche County, the son of Mitchell Davis and Ruth Manning Davis. He grew up and attended school in O'Donnell and on Oct. 11, 1952, married his high school sweetheart, Helen Faye Jones. He served in the National Guard during the Korean conflict, and in 1957 completed training at the Texas Department of Public Safety Law Enforcement Academy. Kel was with DPS for 22 years, working 16 years as a patrolman and serving six years as a narcotics agent. He has been a resident of Abilene since 1963 and was a member of the Caps United Methodist Church. Kel enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and all kinds of sports. He loved spending time with his family, and he loved his dogs.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Helen Davis, of Abilene; three daughters, Kaye Davis, of Mesquite, Karolyn Davis Gass, of Lubbock, Kelly Davis, of Weatherford; daughter-in-law, Lynda Harrell, of Mesquite; son-in-law, Steve Gass, of Lubbock; two sisters, June Stokes, of Lubbock, and Ruthie Hensley, of Grand Prairie; sister-in-law, Norma Davis, of San Angelo; two grandchildren, Amanda and Emily McIntosh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Albert, Dean, Levin, and Larron; a sister, Mary Cockerham; two brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and a nephew.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations made to Hendrick Hospice Care, PO Box 1922, Abilene, Texas 79604.

Juan Luis Flores Paredez

Graveside services for Juan Luis Flores Paredez, son of Pete Paredez and Loretta Flores, both of Lubbock, will be 3 p.m. today at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park with Father Martin Pi?a, officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home.

Juan Luis passed away on Wednesday at Children's Medical Center, in Dallas. He was born on June 29, 2007, in Lubbock. Survivors include his parents, both of Lubbock; a sister, Marina Roquela Flores, of Lubbock; his paternal grandparents, Pete and Lucy Paredez, of Lubbock; his maternal grandparents, George and Elida Moreno, of Waco; and his paternal great-grandparents, Gloria Paredez and Soyla Salinas, both of Lubbock.

Mike Harold Gowens

Mike Harold Gowens, of Ft. Worth, Texas, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2008.

He was born December 12, 1953 in Crosbyton, Texas.

Survivors include his wife Eletia Gowens, son Blair Gowens, son-in-law Jay McHam, son Jared Gowens and wife Betsy, and daughter April McGaughy and husband Zac, all of Ft. Worth; mother Kathryn Gowens Foster; brother Gary Gowens and wife Susan, sister Kittie Hamersley and husband Gary, aunt Peggy Brundidge, all of Crosbyton; grandchildren Adam, Ethan, Bailey, Caden, Toby, Kate, and Brittney; sisters and brothers in-law Sheron and Jerry Watson of Robinson, and Tressie and Mark Odom of Conroe; and several loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2008, at Brown's Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 707 N. MacArthur Blvd, Irving, TX. Interment will follow at Crosbyton cemetery in Crosbyton. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Joe L. "Nacho" Vasquez

Funeral services for Joe L. "Nacho" Vasquez, 69, of Lubbock, will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2008 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Martin Pi?a officiating.

Rosary will be on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 7 p. m. at Guajardo Funeral Chapels. Burial will be at Peaceful Gardens cemetery under the direction of Guajardo Funeral Chapels. He died on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Covenant Medical Center. He was born on Jan. 11, 1939 in Lubbock. He married Janie Chapa on April 20, 1957 in Lubbock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Virginia Vasquez; one brother, Juan Vasquez; and a sister, Isabel Garcia.

Mr. Vasquez worked in construction most of his life. Before retirement he worked for Medlock Farm, after retirement he enjoyed spending time with grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Joe (Juanita) Vasquez Jr. and Tony (Francis) Vasquez, both of Lubbock; two daughters, Monica Vasquez and Lori (Jessie) Torres; two brothers, Lorenzo and Thomas Vasquez; four sisters, Sally Lara, Elida Reyna, Petra Gonzalez and Sylvia Rodriguez, all of Lubbock; ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Curtis Styles

Memorial services for Curtis Styles, 42, of Midland, will be Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 9 a.m., at College Heights Baptist Church (4601 39th), with Dr. Rick Honea officiating.

Curtis passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2008 in Midland, of a sudden illness. He was born Nov. 14, 1965 to Donald Styles and Marsha (Sipes) Styles, in Lubbock. He attended school in Lubbock. Curtis moved to Midland in 1988. He worked as a cook at Abuelo's for 15 years.

Curtis was preceded in death by his grandfather, E.C. Styles; grandmother Ellar Styles; and grandfather, Curtis Sipes.

Curtis is survived by his father, Donald Styles; his mother, Marsha Sipes; grandmother Myrna Sipes; his children, Tiffany, Conner, and Jonathan; three brothers, Burton, Billy and Michael; aunt, Michelle Duke; cousins, Lindsey and Lesley Duke; numerous cousins of the Styles family and numerous nieces and nephews.

William Gilbert Gandy

Mr. Gilbert Gandy of Tahoka departed this life on April 9, 2008 at the age of 90 years. He was born Aug. 3, 1917, in Mill County, to Lawrence William and Minnie Lee James Gandy. Gilbert began farming in 1942 and continued to live on the farm and work his land until his death. Gilbert enjoyed working and spending time with his family. He attended school in Graham Chapel where he graduated in 1932. He married Sinah B. Hinkle, Aug. 6, 1939, in Lamesa. She preceded him in death in 1998. Gilbert then married Lorraine Fite, July 20, 2001, and she preceded him in death in 2007. Mr. Gandy moved to Lynn County in 1926 from Mullin, Texas. He was a member of Sweet Street Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his memory are three daughters, Joanne Hammonds and husband Edgar, Geanne Forsythe and husband Jerry, Gilda Taylor and husband Mike, all of Tahoka; eight grandchildren, Brad Hammonds, Jana Jennings, Mitch Hammonds, Marty Hammonds, Jeff Forsythe, Jay Forsythe, Monica Stephens, and Matt Taylor; 18 great-grandchildren, Kalese Hammonds, Jaci Hammonds, Jeni Hammonds, Beau Byerly, Brit Byerly, Russ Byerly, Zach Jennings, Swade Hammonds, Olivia Hammonds, Preston Hammonds, Hannah Hammonds, Kaylyn Forsythe, Kody Forsythe, Justin Forsythe, McKenzy Forsythe, Jaxon Forsythe, Derek Stephens, Jacob Stephens; and one great great-granddaughter; Taylor Stephens.

Gilbert was preceded in death by Sinah B., Lorraine Fite, his parents, five brothers, and two sisters.

The family will greet friends from 6 -7 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2008, at the White Funeral Home in Tahoka.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at the Sweet Street Baptist Church in Tahoka, with Rev. Lynn Long officiating. Interment will follow in the Nevels Memorial cemetery in Tahoka.

Memorials may be made to the Sweet Street Baptist Church at P.O. Box 751, Tahoka, Texas 79373 or to a favorite Charity.

Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home in Tahoka.
