Johnny Dell Crouch
Services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at First Baptist Church in Artesia, for Johnny Dell Crouch of Lubbock. Mr. Crouch, 43, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Guitar Rick Goodgion, Perry Roberson, Randall Crouch, Bobby Savoie, Steven Respondek, and Billy McClurg. Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary beginning at 12 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Crouch was born April 22, 1964, in Carlsbad, N.M., the son of Dell Ray Crouch and Karla (Barron) Crouch. He was a longtime resident of Artesia until moving to Lubbock 20 years ago. He was a licensed plumber.
He was preceded in death by a brother, David Carlile.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Karla and Mike Molyneaux of Artesia; his father, Dell Ray Crouch of Lubbock; a son, Dallas Crouch of Lubbock; daughters, Delaney Crouch of Lubbock and Jacey Crouch of Lubbock; a sister, Vicki Spence of Artesia; a niece, Lindsey Spence; a nephew, Justin Troublefield and his wife Sarah; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services are under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.
Little Hoyet N. Burnam
"Little" Hoyet N. Burnam, 71, of Tulia died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at his residence in Georgetown. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2008, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel, with Rev. Charles Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia.
Hoyet was born on July 2, 1936, in Matador, to Hoyet, Sr. and Carrie Burnam. He lived in Matador until his family moved to Swisher County in 1945. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Agriculture. He married
Joyce Evans on Nov. 22, 1969, in Plainview. She preceded him in death in 2004. He farmed in Swisher County until retiring in 1994. He then worked for the TDCJ as a corrections officer from 1994 to 2005. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tulia.
Survivors include a son, Gregory Burnam of Austin, and an uncle, Troy Perkins of Amarillo.
The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association, 6605 I-40 West, Building A-6, Amarillo, Texas 79106.
Ruby Lee Ferguson
Ruby Lee Ferguson of Lubbock departed this life on April 9, 2008 at the age of 92 years. She was born on Nov. 17, 1915, in Parker County, to Marian and Annie Kidwell. On March 10, 1935, she married
Willard Hall Ferguson in Lubbock. She was a longtime member of Monterey Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for more than 40 years.
Ruby is preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, her parents, three sisters, and four brothers. Those left to cherish her memory are three sons, Harvey Ferguson and wife Jackie of Lewisville, Clifton Ferguson and wife Ginger of Lubbock, and Barry Ferguson and wife Cheryl of Austin; six grandchildren, Pam Adams, Amy English, Gina Logi, Scott Ferguson, Stephanie Ferguson Craig, and Jonathan Ferguson; and six great-grandchildren.
The body will be in-state on Sunday, April 13, 2008, at White Funeral Home in Lubbock. Celebration of Life Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2008, at White Memorial Chapel in Lubbock, with Rev. Jim Brown officiating. Interment will follow at City of Lubbock cemetery.
Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.
Walter Bryant "Dub" Dulin, Sr.
Walter Bryant "Dub" Dulin, Sr., 95, of Denver City, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2008 in Lubbock.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 13, 2008, at 2 p.m., in the Bethel Baptist Church, with the Reverend Randy Gooch officiating. A Masonic Graveside Service will follow in the Denver City Memorial Park with services under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.
He was born April 21, 1912, to Bryant Lawrence and Ella Ruth Webb Dulin, in Ranger, Stephens County, Texas.
He was a 32nd degree Mason in the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, as well as a member of the Shriners.
He is survived by four children, Ella Mae Braziel of Lubbock, LaNell Stahl and husband Richard of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mary Ward of Denver City, and Walter Bryant Dulin, Jr. and wife Karen of Granite Shoals; and three stepsons, Bob Elam and wife Lola of Plains, Ronnie Elam and wife Mary of Oklahoma, along with David Elam and wife Ann of Farmington, N.M. There are ten grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Dub was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Buford L. Dulin, Casner Allen "Skeet" Dulin, and Curtis B. Nation. Blanche Maple Currey Dulin, his first wife, and Norma Elam Dulin, his second wife, preceded him in death. Also he was preceded in death by an infant great grandson.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 12, 2008, from 6-8 p.m., in the Ratliff Funeral Home Chapel.
Betty Clawson Wright
Betty Clawson Wright left this world to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at the age of 85. Betty was born in Turnersville, TX on February 3, 1923 to John O. Hobin and Jimmie Jones Hobin. Betty Married Oran Clawson, Jr. on December 20, 1940, He died Dec 10, 1949, Betty Married Jack B., Wright on Nov 20, 1960 He preceded her in death April 4, 1982.
Betty Wright received a bachelors degree from Baylor University in 1952; in 1972 she was recognized as Distinguished Alum in the school of business. In 1955, Betty and her daughter, Karen, moved to Lubbock, where she obtained a master degree from Texas Tech in 1956 she was selected as Distinguished Alum from Tech in 1989.
Betty began working for her Uncle Carl Clawson at Sunset Lumber Company, and through that association, she opened South Plains Real Estate Co. She later became a land developer, contractor and apartment complex owner, after opening Murray, Wright Lumber Yard, with Virgil Murray.
Betty was a real go-getter and set the pace with many "first" in Lubbock. She was the first woman to, serve on the Lubbock Real Estate Board of Directors, served on the Lubbock Country Club board of directors, and to receive a M.B. A. from Tech. She was on of the first women to be awarded a Texas Real Estate License in Lubbock, and one of the first women awarded a Fire and Causality Insurance License in Lubbock. Betty participated in organizing the Lubbock Apartment Association, with six other people. The association now has about six hundred members.
As busy as this lady was she always felt a need to "give back" and her plate was always full when it came to giving back to the community, She served on the College of Human Sciences Advisory Board, for thirteen years and chaired it for two years, The foundation Board for Texas Tech University Medical School for ten years and chaired it for two years, she served on the Committee for Excellence in the Medicine at TTUHSC. Chaired the School of Advisory board, was on the Advisory Board for the TTU Center for Study of Addiction. Betty was selected by the Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce as "Woman on the Move" as well as being selected by the "Pathfinders" as the woman making the most outstanding contribution to the field of business in Lubbock in 1984. She was on the Board of Development after the Lubbock Tornado, and on the Board of Redevelopment at Baylor.
Betty Loved God was a very strong believer and her faith never faltered, she was ordained as an Elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church and served six years on the Session.
If it was Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday and a tornado was no closer than 25 miles you could bet Betty would be on the golf course with her buddies Ethel, Don, and Fredda.
If there was a live music venue on the theatre production in town you could count her in. And if it was Sunday morning you could count on her being on third row, right section, second space in the pew waiting impatiently for her daughter to show up late. She would always lean over and say "Good afternoon Karen".
Betty Wright is survived by her daughter, Karen Savage of Lubbock, Brother Kyle Hobin and Jane of Dallas. Nieces and nephews Marsha Steve Williamson of Dallas, Frank and Debbie Morales if Fresno, CA Richard and Debbie Hobin of Antioch, CA Pat Hobin of Evergreen, CO, Randy and Sharon Wright of Austin, TX, Kay Clark Benkendorf of Austin, Cherry Clark of Waco, and Jim and Lavillas Clawson of Galveston, Jim Clawson, Jr. and Susan of Galveston, Donnie Kyle Sellers of Gatesville.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 at Rix Funeral Directors, the funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 AM in Westminster Presbyterian Church with burial following at Resthaven cemetery.
Captolia Jo Shugart
Captolia Jo Shugart, 82, of Lubbock, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2008. The memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2520-80th St, Lubbock. Leslie White will officiate. Private interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Jo was born on Oct. 5, 1925, in Lead Hill, Ark., to George and Lillie (Sommers) Worthington. She was baptized in 1940 as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and spent her life in the Bible educational work. She married
Roy L. Shugart on March 21, 1942, in Plainview. He preceded her in death on Sept. 2, 2001, after 59 years of marriage.
Jo is survived by her children, Roy Allen Shugart and wife Janice of Loving, N.M., George Elbert Shugart of Orla, and Brenda Jo Shugart of Lubbock; grandsons, Allen L. Shugart of Pensacola, Fla. and Gregory Thomas Shugart of Eustace; great-grandsons, Aaron Shugart and Jesse Shugart of Eustace, Tate Allen Shugart of Carlsbad, N.M.; her sister, Rosalene Moore of Cleburne; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy L. Shugart; and her brother, L.G. Worthington.

Charles W. Peek, IV
Charles W. Peek, IV, age 69, of Lubbock, Texas died Wednesday, April 9th at his home following a long and courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service for Charlie will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 48th and Salem.
Charlie was born May 17, 1938 in Cedartown, Ga. to Charles Peek, Jr. and Mary Wood Peek. He received a B.A. degree at the University of Georgia before attending Duke University where he earned a Ph.D. in Sociology. He worked as a Sociology Professor at Texas Tech University for 33 years.
Charlie enjoyed teaching, research projects, good food, Texas music, and spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered as a loving spouse, father, brother, and friend.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary; his sister and brother-in-law, Robyn and Chris Musselwhite; his son and daughter-in-law, Chuck Peek and Barb Zsembik; his daughter and son-in-law, Kristen Peek and Bret Howrey; five grandchildren, Ella, Leo, Emma, Abigail, and Chloe; and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. Esiquio Carrasco Martinez
Esiquio Carrasco Martinez, age 86, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away in his residence on April 9, 2008. Esiquio was born in Yancey, Texas on April 26, 1921 to Manuel and Prudenciana Martinez. He married
in Morton, Texas and later moved to Lubbock. He proudly lived a life as a farmer working a lot of the land south and southwest of Lubbock until he retired. Today his family is feeling the loss of a dearly loved man.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elvira S. Martinez on Nov. 7, 1983. Esiquio is survived by three daughters, Oralia Gomez of Lubbock, Leonor Losoya of Lubbock, and Veronica Martinez of Lubbock; three sons, Manuel Martinez of Dallas, Gilbert Martinez of Lubbock, and Esiquio Martinez, Jr. of Lubbock; seven granddaughters, Cindy Martinez Duron, Marivel Martinez, Erica Martinez, Becky Peele, Shiana Jordon, Vera Ritter, and Jennifer Martinez; three grandsons, Joseph Gomez, Justin Martinez, and Jarrod Martinez; two great-grandsons, Jonathan Jordan and Caleb Duron; two great-granddaughters, Jenah Hernandez and Micaela Martinez; and his most loyal companion, his dog Kiki Martinez.
Rosary for Esiquio will be held Friday, April 11, 2008 at 7 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. John Neumann Catholic Church on Saturday, April 12th at 10 a.m. with Rev. Gerald Kenney officiating. Burial will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial park under the direction of Sanders funeral Home.
Gloria Jean Hyder-Smith
Gloria Jean Hyder-Smith, 69, of Lubbock, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2008 at UMC. She was born Sept. 22, 1938 in Lubbock, Texas to Kermit and Thelma Marshall. Gloria had worked at Texas Tech University Law School as an Administrative Assistant when she retired in 2001 after over twenty years. Left cherishing her undying memories are three daughters, Sharon Harvey (Bernard), Angela Hyder, Tammy Hyder, and Yolanda Dotson (Larry); one son, Shannon Hyder; one granddaughter, Ty'Keria Cash; two grandsons, Chike Lewis (Yolanda) and Javien Hyder; one great granddaughter, three sisters, Annie Fillmore, Dorothy Sandifer, and Leomae Mann (Forrest), one special sister-in-law, Sylvia Barnett; a host of other relatives and friends.
Service will be held Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Full Armor Ministries; burial will follow at Peaceful Garden cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. today at Griffin Mortuary.
