Hazel Hill
Hazel Hill, 73 of Ft. Worth, Texas, formerly of Slaton, Texas passed away on Friday, April 4, 2008 at her resident. She was born July 18, 1934 to Ludella and J. D. Wilborn in Slaton, Texas. She is survived by her children, Ray Charles (Windy), Linda Hill, Dewayne (Leta), Cynthia Brown (Ronald), Brenda Smith (Milton), Frances Hill, Jeanette Pettigrew, Michael Hill (Shelia), Sherry Hill, Roy Hill, Lamar Hill, and Edward Hill (Paula); two brothers, Earl Wilborn (Mary), and Billy Wilborn; four sisters; Hattie M. Jones, Lucille Lewis, Novel Hall and Carolyn Powell; 26 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
Service will be held Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Mt. Olive First Missionary Baptist Church, Slaton, Texas with Rev. Clifton C. Peoples. Burial will follow at Englewood cemetery in Slaton, Texas under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. today at Griffin Mortuary.
Katrina Savage
Graveside services for Katrina Savage, 94, of Lubbock will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008 in Slaton's Englewood cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service in Slaton.
Mrs. Savage was born Aug. 19, 1913 in Savoy, Texas. She moved to Slaton with her parents in 1920 and graduated from Slaton High School in 1931. She married
James W. Savage on Dec. 23, 1934. He preceded her in death in 1962. Katrina moved to Lubbock to attend and graduate from Texas Tech University. She then received her Librarian Masters from North Texas State.
She returned to the Tech Library and worked in the Government Documents Division until retiring in 1979.
Katrina is survived by her son, James Savage of Windthorst and daughter, Suzanne Treece of LaJunta, Colo.; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, April 12th from 12 - 2 p.m.

Margaret Elizabeth Baldridge
Margaret Elizabeth Baldridge passed from this life on April 9, 2008 in Jayton, Texas. She was born on Oct. 3, 1924 to Bert Caral and Mary Bilby Wallace, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. The family moved to Kent County Texas in 1928 where they owned and operated the O Bar O Ranch (now known as Mesquite Grove Ranch) near Clairemont.
Margaret attended school in Jayton, Texas, and high school at Abilene High and graduated from Lubbock High. She attended Christian College in Columbia, Mo., where she majored in chemistry.
She married
Joe Edwin Baldridge on Jan. 29, 1942. She was married
to Joe for 55 years until his death in 1997. They operated Baldridge Bakery in Lubbock.
Margaret was active in their business, the Lubbock community and her church, St. Paul's on the Plains. As a member of the Junior League of Lubbock she worked at the Well Baby Clinic and was a tour guide at the West Texas Museum. She was instrumental in writing scripts for museum tours. Bobbie, as she was known to many, was a willing worker wherever she was needed. At the bakery she served numerous times as Secretary, chief cornbread cook, and as a roll panner in the sweet roll plant.
Margaret (Bops) is survived by two children, Buddy Baldridge and his wife Bonnie, of Clairemont, Texas and Caral McCall of Clayton, NM.; five grandchildren: Chris Cagle and Marisa McGehee and her husband Joe of Clayton, NM., Barbi Sprinkle and her husband Nate of South Asia, Brook Culbertson and her husband Justin, of Fayetteville, Ga. and Bilby J. Baldridge and his wife Jessica of Abilene, Texas.; and nine great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the Mesquite Grove family cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home of Rotan. Mesquite Grove cemetery is located two miles west of the intersection of Highways 70 and 380.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center in Abilene, Texas or the Staff Fund for the Kent County Nursing Home.
Ora A. Smith
Ora A. Smith, 90, of Lubbock was born March 22, 1918 in Sipe Springs, Texas to the late Oatley and Minnie (Christman) Armstrong. She married
Edward Loyd Smith, Dec. 5, 1934 in Sipe Springs, Texas. He passed away March 7, 1967.
Ora passed away Thursday, April 10, 2008.
She worked as a Post Master for the United States Postal Service for 20 years at Wellman, Texas before retiring in 1984. She loved to quilt, crochet and she was a stamp collector and raised poodles.
She is survived by her children: Dalton A. Smith of Brownwood, Oatis E. Smith of Texarkana, Cynthia L. Robertson of Rockdale, Bertha D. Nettles of Brownwood, Bonnie F. Brookey of Edmond, Okla., and Joyce M. Hunt of Lubbock; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 3three great-great-grandchildren and her very special caregiver, Tammy Weaver.
Celebration of life services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Wilsons' Funeral Directors Chapel in Wolfforth. Entombment is in Wilsons' Funeral Directors cemetery.
Velma Jean Jones
Velma Jean Jones, 80, of Vasalia, Calif., formerly of Lubbock passed away on Monday, March 31, 2008 in Vasalia, Calif. She was born March 28, 1928 to Frank and Lilly Deary. She attended Dunbar High School. She became a member of St. Luke Baptist Church in 1970. She is survived by two sons, Joe Middleton and Alfred Jones; two daughters, Judy Goodwin and Bennie Crawford; seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial Service will be Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 3 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary, burial will follow at the City of Vasalia cemetery, Vasalia, Calif., under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
William C. Bouton
William C. Bouton, 85, of Lubbock passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2008. He was born in Little Valley, New York to Willis G. and Ruth M. (Cooper) Bouton.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. On Aug. 31, 1946 he married
Margaret Alta Yelverton in Arlington, Texas.
He was an Eagle Scout and served as Scout Master for Troop 522, was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner and was involved in many civic and veterans organizations. He was also a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, Alta Bouton; son Charles Grant Bouton and wife Barbara; daughter Bettina Gail Cox and husband Glen; son David Christopher Bouton and wife Heather; grandsons Shilo Shadid Brooks, David C. Bouton, Timothy Travis Bouton and wife Amy and William Glynn Bouton. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Harold Bouton.
A graveside service with military honors will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Bernice Dean McElroy
Bernice Dean McElroy, 98, died at the Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home, in Walsenburg, Colo., on April 3, 2008. Her husband of 53 years, Lee H. McElroy (Mac), predeceased her in l992. Bernice was born to Arthur and Louanna Arnett Dean on May 10, 1909 in Anson. In the 1920's they moved to Lubbock and owned and operated a cotton farm on South University.
Bernice is survived by twin daughters, Lynn Hughes and husband George of La Veta, Colo. and Marion Lee McElroy and husband Mac Carter of Wichita, Kan. She has four grandchildren, Kelly Linder, Houston Furgeson, Robert Valentine, and Erika Kirschke and seven great-grandchildren.
She loved her family and was a dedicated public school counselor and teacher for over 34 years. At age 19, Bernice's teaching career began with her brother, Bernard, in Draw. Mac and Bernice were married
in Post June 5, 1939. Then she followed her husband's career as a county agricultural agent, serving with dedication in various West Texas schools. Her last position was as a counselor at Smylie Wilson for 15 years. Her bachelor's and master's degrees were earned from Texas Tech University
Upon retirement she be-came an avid bridge player and was a member of the Lubbock Women's Club and the 50/50 Class of the Lubbock First Methodist Church.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 12 at 2 p.m., in Bowman Chapel at First Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at Resthaven Funeral Home from 10 -11 a.m. on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Youth Ministry of the Lubbock First Methodist Church.
Michelle Marie De La Rosa
Michelle Marie De La Rosa, 29, of Lubbock died Friday, April 4, 2008, at UMC. Viewing will be 9 a.m. Friday at Griffin Mortuary, 1715 East Broadway, followed by burial at the City of Lubbock cemetery.
She graduated from Lubbock High School and attended South Plains College, receiving her degree in surgical technology. She had a vibrant personality and a special gift for helping others. She was also an organ donor.
She is survived by her father, John Joe De La Rosa; mother, Carol Sue De La Rosa; three children, Zeta Nevaeh Rodriguez, Zethan Joe Rodriguez, and Zion Edwin Herrera; four sisters, Bambi, Julie, Diane, and Sandy; and two grandmothers, Lupe De La Rosa of Lubbock and Beatrice Vasek of Amarillo.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Pedro De La Rosa and her grandfather, Edwin John Vasek.
Goldia Phillips
Mrs. Phillips passed away April 9, 2008 at Mullican Care Center in Savoy. She was born May 16, 1927, in Webster County, Mo., the daughter of Thomas Carter and Grace Duren Conners. She married
Norman Phillips in July of 1944. She retired from Frito-Lay Co. in Lubbock and she was a former Idalou resident. She is survived by her husband, Norman of Bells; son and his wife, Tommy and Amanda Phillips of Pottsboro: daughter and her husband, Janis and Dwight Smith of Pottsboro; daughter and her husband, Peggy and Bryan Kendrick of San Antonio: eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be April 12, 2008 at Mullican-Little Funeral Chapel in Bells at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Bells.
Clodell Hodge Talbot
Graveside services for Clodell Hodge Talbot will take place on Thursday, April 10, 2008, at 2 p.m., in Littlefield Memorial Park. Clodell was born Aug. 29, 1922, and graduated from Sudan High School in 1939. She was a resident of Lubbock for 65 years. She worked for Time DC and for Becknall Wholesale. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Nell Hodge and by her husband, Robert Talbot. Survivors include cousins, Mike and Wanda Mitchell of Post and Lavelle Craft of San Antonio. Visitation will take place on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock.
