Charles Reed Barret
Graveside services for Charles Reed Barret, 93, of Shallowater will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at Terry County Memorial cemetery, with Rev. Charles Addington officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home. Charles passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008, at his home in Shallowater. He was born Feb. 24, 1915, in Brownfield, to Jay and Viola Mae Barret, who were early settlers and pioneers in Terry County. He graduated from Brownfield High School. He married
Patsy Lee Key, Dec. 12, 1939, in Hobbs, N.M. She preceded him in death, April 21, 1999. They farmed west of Brownfield until 1957 when they moved to Lubbock. Charles attended Draughon's Business College, graduating with a degree in accounting. They then moved in December of 1959 to the Dean Community where they operated a grocery store and gas station near Shallowater Citizens Co-Op Gin until retiring in January of 1980. Charlie had a long, healthy and enjoyable life. He enjoyed annual trips to Las Vegas, fishing, going to movies, gardening, reading and spending time with his family. He will be fondly remembered. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Vi Barret on June 22, 1989 and his brother, Frank Barret of Las Vegas, Nev.
Charles is survived by two daughters, Juana Jay Sires of Shallowater and Sharon Barret of Lubbock; a son-in-law, Terry Sires of Shallowater; two grandsons, David and Jay Van Story; two great granddaughters, Denae and Denise Van Story.

Anna Bethe Grimes
Anna Bethe Grimes, 68, of Shamrock died Sunday, April 6, 2008, in Lubbock.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2008, in the Shamrock cemetery, with Rev. Joe G. Jernigan, pastor of Calvary Christian Fellowship, officiating.
Burial will be in Shamrock cemetery under the direction of Wright Funeral Directors in Shamrock.
Anna Bethe Grimes was born March 6, 1940, in Shamrock, to Robert Lewis and Ida Faye Pike Griffin. She married
John Thomas Grimes on June 21, 1959 in Tulia. He preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 2001. Mrs. Grimes was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell for 17 years and a network administrator for 17 years. She was a member of the South Plains Quilters Guild and the Monday Madams Quilting group. Mrs. Grimes made many life long friends in her quilting groups.
Survivors include two brothers, Leo Griffin of Spur and Bobby Griffin of Shamrock, and five sisters, Modene Scott of Shamrock, June Sawyer of Odessa, Cleta Van Meter of McAdoo, Neta Hickman of McAdoo, and Billie Evans of Lamoni, Iowa.
Harold Hal Uhey
Harold "Hal" Uhey, 73, of Lubbock died Friday in the VA Medical center in Amarillo. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 9, at 6 p.m., in the W.W. Rix Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Johnny Johns officiating. His family will receive friends at Rix Funeral Directors an hour before service time.
Mr. Uhey was a member of the South Park Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Marines in Korea and was a retired truck driver, having worked for C. & H. Heavy haul and for Robert Heath Trucking. He married
his wife Lyda April 23, 1976 in Dallas.
He is survived by his wife, Lyda; two daughters, Marsheeda and Shannon; and son, Lee. A brother, Rich Uhey, and four grandchildren also survive him.
Vernard Alexander
Vernard Alexander of Midland died Tuesday, May 6, 2008.
He was born June 16, 1924, in Commerce, to Bertie L. Alexander and Nora Belle Treadwell Alexander. He graduated from Commerce High School and joined the Coast Guard in September, 1942. He was a seaman first class on the destroyer, USS Richey during World War II sailing as convoy escorts many times across the Atlantic Ocean. After his honorable discharge in April, 1946, he enrolled at East Texas State (Texas A&M-Commerce;) where he graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He later earned a Masters in Education. While attending college, he played football and ran track.
He coached for the Lubbock schools for six years and was coaching there when the Lubbock Westerners won two state championships. His passion was coaching and developing young men. His favorite quote was "I would coach for nothing!"
He met Patti Pipkin at Lubbock High and they were married
Aug. 18, 1956 at Matador. They have four daughters: Leslie and her husband Laynce Nix of Midland, Linda and her husband Ross Williams of Austin, Heather and her husband Sam Davis of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Michelle Alexander of Midland. They have six grandchildren: Laynce, Jayson, and Lyndsay Nix, Eryn and Tanner Williams, and Taylor Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, DeWitt Alexander.
Vernard coached at Morton, Post, Pecos, Vernon, and Brazosport besides Lubbock. After coaching he was an assistant principal at Freeport Intermediate before becoming a principal with the Windham School District at the Texas Department of Corrections for eleven years before retirement.
Vernard was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was devoted to and so proud of all his family. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing with his family. He loved playing in the mountains of Ruidoso and vacationing there.
The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008. Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at Resthaven Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at the Glass chapel at First United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, with Rev. John Rech officiating and Rev. Jan Reed assisting.
The family wishes to thank all the nurses, doctors, and caregivers who have done so much to take care of Vernard. In-Home Care, Select Specialty, and Hospice of Midland's support has been priceless.

Kaylee Scott
Services for Kaylee Madison Scott will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel. Graveside services will be held on the same day at 4 p.m. at the Lockney cemetery in Lockney. Visitation will be from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home. Services will be officiated by Joel Perez and Steve McLean.
Kaylee Madison Scott was born to Kodi William and Kaci Kay (Mathis) Scott on April 12, 2007, in Lubbock. She passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2008, in Lubbock. Kaylee was a very social little girl who never met a stranger. She loved to put on a show for anyone who would watch. She was such a bright spot in everyone's lives.
She is survived by her parents of Lubbock; her maternal grandparents, Mike and Ginger Mathis of Lockney; paternal grandparents, Ocie and Mary Scott of Idalou; uncles and aunts, Jeff and Lindsey Griffith of Amarillo, Allen and Pam Miller of Annandale, Va., and Garrett Mathis and fianc? Lindsie Gerber; cousins, Caden and Carley Griffith and Clayton Miller. Great-grandparents are Warren and Barbara Mathis of Lockney, Deanie and Nita Henderson of Plainview, Marge Lewis of Piedmont, Kan. and Tilden and Lorene Wilson of Humboldt, Kan. A very special friend, Leslie Kacal and a host of other family and friends also survive. She is preceded in death by her great-grandfather, W.J. Lewis.

Mary Louise McPherson
Mary Louise McPherson, age 86, passed away on May 4, 2008, in Midland. Prior to moving to Midland, Mary was a resident of Lubbock, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the Lockney cemetery. Pastor Brian Adams from the First United Methodist Church of Lockney will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Lockney.
Mary Louise McPherson was born on April 14, 1922 in Alvarado, Texas, to C.P. McPherson and Pearl (Anderson) McPherson. She graduated from Lockney High School in 1939 and Draughns Business College in Lubbock in 1941. After graduating, Mary lived in Floydada, where she served as the District Clerk for Floyd County for over 40 years before retiring in 1987.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Ruel, Wiley, E.C. (Carl), Mace, and J.P. (Buddy) McPherson.
She is survived by her brother, Jay McPherson and wife, Kay; her sisters-in-law, Nettie, Gwen, and Sue McPherson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Erick Schaudies
Erick Schaudies, 61, of Elgin died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 3, 2008. He was born in Waco and made friends and family in various cities including Harlingen, Lubbock, Victoria, Corpus Christi, Austin, and Elgin.
He graduated from UT Pan Am in Edinberg and Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Pearce Schaudies and Sarita Fort Schaudies.
Erick and Raychelle (Arnold) Schaudies were married
for 17 years and had resided in Elgin for nine years.
He is survived by his wife, Raychelle of Elgin; one son, Jon-Erick Schaudies of Chicago; two granddaughters, Rudy and Rowan Irvine-Stindt of Chicago; and three brothers, Steve of Corpus Christi, Pearce "Sandy" of Thailand, and Tim of San Antonio. A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jones Family Funeral Home in Elgin. Alton Rex Jasper, Sr.
Alton Rex Jasper, Sr. was born Oct. 25, 1915, to O'Nora Belle and Newton Marion Jasper in Dighton, Kan. He left this earth to be with his heavenly father on May 4, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2008 in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel.
Mr. Jasper graduated from Dighton High School in 1933, studied at Southern Methodist University and Dallas College, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. A self-educated Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Rex retired from the Internal Revenue Service in 1975. He then was employed as head of the Payroll Department at Texas Tech until 1985. In retirement he was a realtor for Century 21 Real Estate.
Rex married
the love of his life, Sibyl Shipp, on July 3, 1941, in Amarillo. Three children were born to this union: son, Alton Rex, Jr.; daughter, Joy Ann; and son, Jon Shipp. Sibyl predeceased him on Jan 26, 1982.
Rex and his family moved to Lubbock in 1958. A life-long Baptist, Rex was a charter member of Second Baptist Church in Lubbock until his death. In July of 2007, he moved to Stillwater, Okla.
Alton Rex Jasper will be remembered for his kindheartedness, love of gardening, his interest in others, and his zest for life.
In addition to his wife and parents, Rex was preceded in death by sisters, Alma McCoy, Ruth Trainer, Reta Heinechke, and Mildred O'Rourke; brothers, Roy Jasper, Ross Jasper, James Jasper, Fred Jasper, Buford Jasper and Clarence Jasper. He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Alton Rex, Jr. and Paula Jasper, of Midland, Joy and Jeff Stewart, of Stillwater, Okla., and Jon and JaneII Jasper, of Spring, Texas. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer Gourley, Heather Murphy, Andy Stewart, Brad Stewart, Aaron Hartwell, and Stan Gregory; great-grandchildren, Kenny and Kiefer Gourley, Wyatt and Weston Murphy, Madison and Malcolm Stewart, Hailey and Josh Hartwell, and Ashley and Kyle Gregory; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
The family has requested memorials to the American Lung Association.
