Frank R. Montiel, Sr.

Funeral mass for Frank R. Montiel, Sr., 53, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. today at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Martin Pina officiating. Burial will be at The City of Lubbock cemetery under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home of Lubbock.

Frank passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 in Lubbock. He was born on June 11, 1954 to the late Simon (Sept. 19, 2000) and Helen Montiel in Abernathy. He married Manuela Garza on May 31, 1981 in Lubbock. He was a Baker for Dynamic Foods. He was a life long resident of Lubbock and a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife of Lubbock; five sons, David, Frank Jr., Joseph, Angel and Eric all of Lubbock; two daughters, Anna Lea and Leticia Montiel, both of Lubbock; his mother, Helen Montiel of Lubbock; four brothers, Felipe Hilburn, Jesse Montiel, Mike Montiel and Eligio Valdez Jr., all of Lubbock; two sisters, Betty Jimenez of Lubbock, and Mary Pashia of Crandall; and 17 grandchildren.

Bruce Wilkerson

A lifelong resident of Lubbock, Bruce Wilkerson, lovingly known as Gomer, died Friday, May 30, 2008. Gomer's family and friends will gather this afternoon to reminisce his 57 years of life from 4-5 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 82nd and Iola Ave. A service of celebration will follow at 4 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2008 in Lake Ridge Chapel with Deacon Randy Canale officiating.

Gomer was born on Sept. 11, 1950, the youngest son of Sullivan and Lena Marie Wilkerson. He graduated from Coronado High School and attended Texas Tech University before becoming a Lubbock Police Officer. Gomer served the people of Lubbock for 34 years, retiring in 2006. He truly loved his profession, never desiring to do anything else. He just wanted to be known as "a good cop". He married Margaret Ann Levasseur on May 11, 1977 and she died on May 26, 2001. Gomer was a member of Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas.

Gomer is survived by his parents, Sullivan and Lena Wilkerson; a brother, Steven Wilkerson and wife Jean; two daughters, Teri Krause and husband Bill, and Sue Wood and husband Park; and three grandchildren, Allen Krause, Kayla McLaughlin and Sierra Wood.

The family suggests memorials to the Lubbock Police Department Benefits Association, Attn: Katherine Wilkinson, 916 Texas Ave., Lubbock, Tx 79401.

Sharon Jane Stewart

We write this memorial with much love and respect for our dear sweet mom and friend, Sharon Jane Stewart.

She was born November 8, 1944 in Ohio. Her family moved to Litchfield Park, Ariz. during her early childhood. Mom has fond memories of her school days. She graduated Agua Fria High School in 1962 and was a beautiful homecoming queen.

She married and had three children. As a single mother, she moved with her children to Lubbock in 1972. She was an extraordinary and devoted mother, supporting her family by selling Avon. She was an Avon representative for 32 years.

After raising her children, she was blessed with four wonderful grandchildren, who were the joys of her life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Timmy Mitten, and father, Homer Mitten.

Sharie is survived by her mother, Jane L. Mitten; sister, Bonnie Miller of Arizona; her children, Shawn Stewart and wife, J'Lin, Dr. Holly Stewart, Heather McKee and husband Mark, all of Lubbock. She is also survived by her darling grandchildren, Reagan and Riley Stewart, and Haleigh and Megan McKee, who will miss their "Maga" dearly. We will all miss Mom immensely, but are at peace knowing she will be free of pain and with God in Heaven.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2008 at Southcrest Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry K. Hatfield officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.

A visitation will be tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to the American Diabetes Association.

Betty Jean Adkisson

Betty Jean Adkisson, 77, of Brownfield died on Saturday, May 31, 2008, in Lubbock. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at the Terry County Memorial cemetery with Rev. Chris Seaton officiating under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.

Betty was born on July 30, 1930, in Littlefield to Jack and Willie Boone. She moved to Brownfield as a child where she attended schools. She married Jerald Adkisson on December 10, 1971 in Phoenix, Ariz.

Betty is survived by her husband; two daughters, Terry Ligon and her husband Jerry of Eliasville, and Beverly Jones of Graham; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her sister, Ella Wallace of Apple Valley, Calif.

Memorial Contibutions may be made to the American Lung Associaton, P.O. Box 26460, Austin, TX 78755-0460.

Guadalupe IDestiny Rivera

Rosary for Guadalupe IDestiny Rivera, 4-month-infant daughter of Patricia Hernandez and David Rivera of Lubbock, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel in Lubbock.

Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lubbock with Father Brendon Walsh officiating. Burial will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home of Lubbock. She died Sunday, April 11, 2004, in Lubbock.

She was born Nov. 19, 2003 in Lubbock. She was a Catholic.

Survivors include her parents of Lubbock; a sister, IDallas Rivera of Lubbock; paternal grandparents, Naomi and Maximino Rivera of Abernathy; maternal grandparents, Mary Lou Montalvo and Joe Hernandez of Lubbock; paternal great-grandmother, Josephina Rivera of New York; maternal great-grandparents, Eustacio and Lupe Montalvo of Lubbock; paternal great-great-grandfather, Feliciano Martinez of Eagle Pass; and many uncles, a unts and cousins.

L. C. Burleson

L. C. Burleson, 77, of Tahoka, entered his eternal rest on Thursday, May 1, 2008. He was born Aug. 8, 1930 in Calvert, Texas, to Mr. and Mrs. Jive Burleson. He grew up in Marlin, Texas, and moved to Tahoka at the age of sixteen. He worked various jobs until he formed a business partnership and operated a gas station and mechanic shop. His entrepreneurial ventures also included a small grocery store, cafe, and car dealership. He united with Pleasant Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. L. E. Brown. Years later, he was baptized by Rev. H. L. Brawley on April 9, 1989. He continued to be a great supporter of the Church. He leaves to celebrate and cherish his memory, his wife of 56 years, Henrietta; two children, Gloria Moore and Michael Burleson; 11 grandchildren, Myra Moore, Gwen Hunte, Michael D. Burleson, Bruce Burleson, Brandy Fears, Sandy Burleson, Adrian Williams, Dustin Burleson, Reggie Moore, Jr., and Rocky Moore; 37 great-grandchildren; one brother, A. J. Council; a host of other relatives and friends.

Service will be Monday, May 5, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Tahoka; burial will follow at Nevels cemetery, Tahoka, under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.

Maegene Nelson

Memorial Services for Maegene Nelson, 64, of Lubbock, will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 10 at First Christian Church, 2323 Broadway, with Dr. Michael Passmore officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors of Lubbock.

She died Friday, June 6, 2008.

Maegene was born October 24, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Jack O. and Rose Mary Nelson and grew up in Lubbock. She graduated from Monterey High School. She was the first Latin major to graduate from Texas Tech University. She did graduate studies at Arizona State University and L'Universite Catholique de l'Ouest in Angers, France. Maegene taught Latin, English, and French at Glendale High School in Arizona for ten years.

She received a Master of International Management Degree from American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird). She then began a new career at Chemical Bank (now J.P. Morgan Chase) in New York City managing domestic and international products for multinational companies. In 1981, she became Vice President, Relationship Manager for Bank of Montreal in Houston managing products for Fortune 500 customers. She moved with BMO to Chicago working for its Harris Bank subsidiary in a similar capacity and then became Vice President, Senior Audit Manager. After retiring from BMO, she moved back to Lubbock and affiliated with Wells Fargo as Vice President, Business Banking. While at Wells Fargo, she worked with children in Lubbock schools in the Junior Achievement Program.

Maegene was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity, The Lubbock Women's Club, Executive Women's Forum, and was a Master Gardener. She was a charter member of Lubbockview Christian Church in 1949. Following her return to Lubbock, she served Lubbockview as Chairman of the Administrative Board, as a trustee, and as a group leader in Christian Women's Fellowship. While a resident of Chicago she was a member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she was an active member of the Altar Guild. She was a member of the Texas Tech Alumni Association, Thunderbird Alumni, the National Ranching Heritage Center, and was a supporter of Texas Tech Friends of Music. She was a supporter of the arts and especially enjoyed her travels to hear different opera companies. Maegene enjoyed the company of her good friends and good books. She was a talented artist, musician, and gourmet cook, and enjoyed her travels over the years to countries around the world. Maegene was a wonderful role model for her brothers and sister and all those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and is survived by her two brothers, Jack, Jr., and J. David, and her sister Jill, all of Lubbock.

The family suggests that memorials be given to the Texas Tech Foundation, Box 41081, 79409, or to a favorite charity.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care she received from Dr. David Close, Chaplain Bobby McMillan, and the staff at J. Arrington Cancer Center.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 9 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Rix Funeral Directors on Broadway and at the church following services.

Crystal Lynn Curry

Crystal Lynn Curry of Wolfforth was born July 4, 1954, in Lubbock, to J. T. and Lynn Lee (Spencer) Gunn. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her mother preceded her in death.

She went home to be with the Lord on May 2, 2008, at the age of 53 years 9 months and 28 days.

She is survived by her children, Shonda and husband Cary Shimek and Randy and wife Jennifer Curry; six grandchildren; her father, J.T. Gunn; and her sister, Terri and husband Bruce McNeely.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Wilsons' Funeral Directors Chapel.

Opal Isabell Easley Talley

Opal Isabell Easley Talley, age 78, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2008 at her residence in Seagraves.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2008. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Seagraves with Rev. Floyd Haddock officiating. Burial will follow in Gaines County cemetery in Seagraves.

Mrs. Talley was born on May 27, 1930 in Bierne, Ark. to Connie and Bell Easley. She graduated from Gurdon High School and then attended Isabell Powell Beauty College. She received her license in 1961. She moved from Gurdon to Seagraves in 1952.

Opal married Raymond Edward Talley in Las Vegas, Nev. on June 8, 1970. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi, Home demonstration Club, Rebecca's and Seagraves Art Association. Her hobbies were sewing, painting, arts and crafts, and her flower garden. She particularly enjoyed Christmas when everyone was home and Hammonds/Easley's reunions. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seagraves.

One of Opal's favorite songs was Moonriver. She enjoyed many different types of music.

Those left to cherish her memories include her husband, Raymond Talley of the home; two sons, David Alan Wilson and wife Judy of Seagraves, and Dennis Neal Wilson and wife Larinda of Reseda, Calif.; a daughter, Karen Kim Wilson Murphy of Fort Worth; a brother, Jimmy Easley of Missouri; and two sisters, Mae Randles of Bay City; and Lois Kleim of Nemo; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Special thanks to Leisha Cole.

She was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Howard.

Personal services are being provided by Mark A. Jones Funeral Directors of Seagraves.
