Jessie Mae West
Jessie Mae West, 91, of Lubbock, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2008. She was born Nov. 2, 1916. She married
William Price West. He preceded her in death in September of 2004.
Survivors include a daughter, Frances B. Sooter; two sons, James L. and Robert A. West; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 21, 2008, at the City of Lubbock cemetery with Rev. Bruce Cotton officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 7-8 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
Jason Coty Jourden
Jason Coty Jourden, 3, of Smyer, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2008 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2008 at the Virgil Osburn Auditorium at Smyer High School in Smyer.
Jason was born to Jana Jourden on March 18, 2005 in Lubbock. He lived in Smyer all of his life. He loved music and singing his favorite songs, "Wiseman Built his House on a Rock" and "Ittsie Bittsie Spider." He loved for his moma to rock him in her arms. He would do sign language to grab for his "baba, " and he loved being pushed in the little red car. He liked swimming in the kids' pool and enjoyed rocking on his swing outside to get fresh air and hear the little birdies sing. His two favorite words were "moma and baba." He will be greatly missed by his family and all his friends/medical staff from Covenant Children's Hospital in Lubbock that have been so loving, caring, and compassionate with our baby.
Survivors include mother, Jana Jourden of Smyer; brothers, Josh (Teresa) Jourden of Whitharral; Jamey (Rodney) Kirkland and Elijah Capetillo, both of Smyer; Jim Jourden of Levelland; sister, Jilanne Jourden of Lubbock; niece, Ella Kirkland of Smyer; grandparents, Hoylene and Darrell Spence of Smyer; and great-grandmother, Wilma Jarnagin of Smyer.
Pallbearers will be Paul Perez, Chance Brown, Jay Brown, Jordan Brown, and Austin Brown. Honorary Pallbearer is Vonte Brown. Interment will be in the City of Smyer cemetery under the direction of Head Duarte Funeral Home of Levelland.
Herma Rita Newton
Herma Rita Newton, 70, passed away June 8, 2008 in Houston. She was born in Lubbock to Herman Burton and Ruby Burton Banks. Herma graduated from Lubbock High School in 1956.
She is survived by two children, Rita Armstrong and Monty M. Newton; brother, Alvin Burton; grandchildren, Zachery Newton, Wesley Newton, Shannon Barnes and Niki Pearce.
A graveside service will be held 11a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Resthaven Memorial Park cemetery, 5740 E. 19th Street, Lubbock, with Pastor Jon S. Symes officiating.
Effie Lee Jones
Effie Lee Jones, 87, passed away on June 18, 2008, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, where she had lived with her daughter for the past 14 months.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21 at Manhattan Heights Church of Christ, with burial to follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
On September 28, 1920, Effie Lee Wright was born to Dan and Berdia Wright in rural Hillsboro. Most of her youth was spent in East Texas. She graduated from Grandview High School. She married
Verge Jones Sr. on May 23, 1940 in Cleburne, and to this union nine children were born. Effie was baptized at 20th and Birch Church of Christ, and later moved her membership to the Northside Church of Christ. Effie was a loving and caring person who was always doing something for family and friends. She loved to gather family at her home. Her generosity was widespread. Her favorite gifts were homemade cakes. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; only brother, Willie Wright; and her daughter, Berdia Jackson. Effie is survived by her daughters, Wilma Jean Jones of Dallas; Pearlie Mae Crittenden of Austin; Ruby Nell McKnight of Austin; Katherine Stevenson of Abilene; Carolyn Jones of Arlington; and sons, Verge Jones Jr. of Arlington; Bobby Lee Jones of Dallas; and Curtis Wayne Jones of Lubbock. Effie Lee Jones had 30 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, one niece, one nephew, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Ashlyn Bree Cox
Ashlyn Bree Cox was born on May 24, 2008 in Lubbock to Craig and Shalyn Kennedy Cox, and she peacefully passed away at her home on Monday, June 16, 2008. She was loved by all and touched numerous lives during her short stay on this earth. She was a gift from God and our little angel. We LOVE YOU ASHLYN and MISS YOU SO MUCH!
Memorial services were 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon, with Rev. Billy Nickell, pastor of First Family Church in Amarillo, officiating.
Survivors include parents, Craig and Shalyn Cox; grandmothers, Maureen Hunsberger and Debbie Cox; grandfathers, Wayne Kennedy; David Cox; and John Hunsberger; and many other friends and family.

Ann Reddy
Margaret Ann Reddy, 72, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at her home with her family by her side. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Floydada with Rev. Les Hall officiating. Burial will follow at the Floyd County Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Moore Rose Funeral Home of Floydada. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-7 p.m. Friday.
Ann was born on April 3, 1936 to Jack Deakins and Evelyn (Maddox) Deakins in Floydada. She grew up in Floydada and graduated in 1954 as Salutatorian of her class. Her love of watching movies came from growing up in the Palace Movie Theatre, which was owned by her parents.
She married
Walter "Lewis" Reddy on September 11, 1955. They were blessed with three children; Mitzi, Rick, and Tracy. She was proud to be a homemaker. She was a Life Master in the Plainview Duplicate Bridge Club. Ann was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Floydada.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Lewis in February of 2001.
She is survived by her children; daughter, Mitzi Hale and husband Mike of Richardson; son, Rick Reddy and wife Kelli of Floydada; and daughter, Tracy Thompson and husband Lane of Lubbock; grandchildren, Brian Hale; Michelle Hale; Lindsey Pyle; Laura Zepeda; Jacob Reddy; Taylor Thompson; and Bryce Thompson; and great-grandchild, Kirsten Pyle.
Memorials in Ann's name may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 203 W. Kentucky, Floydada, Tx 79235.
She will be deeply missed by her friends and family.
Juanita White
Church services for Juanita White, 98, of Farwell, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Lariat Church of Christ with Wesley Roach officiating. Burial will be in Muleshoe Memorial Park cemetery in Muleshoe.
Mrs. White died Monday, June 16, 2008, at Muleshoe Area Medical Center. She was born Dec. 21, 1909, in Spunky, to Tell and Cordie (Cheek) Armstrong. She married
Sam White, Jr., in Cleburne on Nov. 17, 1932. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1998.
Mrs. White had been a resident of this area for the past 70 years, moving from Glen Rose. She was a homemaker and a member of the Lariat Church of Christ.
She is survived by her a son, Duane and wife Linda White of Farwell; daughters, Elanda McDowell of Kalispell, Mont., and Judy and husband Clifford Gray of Bullard; sister, Edith Eddy of Glen Rose; brother, Bill and wife Pauline Armstrong of Wichita Falls; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchil-dren.

Robert H. Hargrove, Jr.
Graveside service for Dr. Robert H. Hargrove, Jr. age 86, of Lubbock, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Hillside Memorial Gardens. Interment will be at Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Se ale Funeral Home.
He died at 10:53 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2008, at Grace House in Lubbock.
He was born on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 1921 in Rotan.
After graduating from Rotan High School he attended Texas Tech University and graduated in 1944. He served as a 2nd Lt. in Europe during WWII. He returned after being discharged to teach chemistry at Rotan High School, where he met Bobbie Pynes. They were married
on June 25, 1946 in DeKalb. She preceded him in death on April 7, 2006.
He graduated from Baylor Dental School in 1949 and started his dental practice in Snyder in 1950, retiring in 1992. He was a charter member of Colonial Hill Baptist Church. He was also a longtime Rotarian, he served on the board of Western Texas College. At the time of his passing he was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Lubbock..
He is survived by three sons, Robert Kent and wife Pam of Lubbock, Bryan and wife Laurie of Kerrville, and Mark Hargrove of Lubbock; one daughter, Diane Tutt and husband Bill of Winston Salem, N.C.; one brother, Elmer Hargrove of Far-well; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation was from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at Bell Cypert Seale Funeral Home.
Evadale Barnett
Evadale Barnett, a resident of Cleveland, Tenn., passed away Monday morning in a local health care facility. Her parents, her husband of 47 years, Dr. Glenn Barnett, her three sisters and four brothers preceded her in death. Mrs. Barnett was very active in charitable organizations including the Red Cross, Parent-Teachers Associations and the United Fund (United Way). She supported her husband as he served as Administrator with the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Texas, Austin, Texas Tech University, the University of Colorado, Boulder, and as President of Wayland Baptist University. Among all of her accomplishments the thing she was most proud of was being a wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Barnett was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include her son, Bob Barnett of Cleveland, Tenn.; grandchildren, Christina Barnett, Brooke Barnett, Andrew Barnett and wife Casie, Jordan Barnett and Aimee Barnett, all of Cleveland; her great-grandchildren, Ashley, Ethan, and Noah Ramos, all of Athers, Tenn., and River Barnett of Cleveland. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The Rememberance of Life Graveside Service and Interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the U.S. National cemetery in Chattanooga with Dr. Sam Roberts officiating. The North Ococe Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes has charge of the arrangements.
Laura Gerner Wood
Services for Laura Gerner Wood, age 61, of Lubbock, will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church in Slaton. Pastor Yvonne Kiebler will officiate. Burial will follow at the Terrace cemetery under the personal care of Justice-Mason Funeral Home of Post.
Laura died on Sunday, June 15, 2008 at the Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. She was born on April 4, 1947 to Amos and Lorine (Haley) Gerner. Laura started school at Garnolia and later attended Post Schools where she graduated in 1965. After high school she attended Draughn's Business College at Lubbock. For many years she worked for Hobbs Trailers and for the Lubbock County Appraisal District. She married
Billy Wood on May 6, 1995 in Slaton and made their home in Lubbock. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Slaton. Laura was preceded in death by her parents: Amos Gerner, January 31, 1985 and Lorine Gerner, May 15, 1997.
She is survived by her husband: Billy Wood of Lubbock; two brothers: Kenneth Gerner of Houston and Jerry Gerner of Post; one sister: Louise Gerner of Dallas; three step-sons: Toby Wood and Cary Wood both of Arkansas and Christopher Wood of Austin; two step-daughters: Christina Wood of Corpus Christi and Julie Wood of Austin; and by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, 7 step-grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be: George Sterling, Damon Stotts, Jerry Dubose, Scott Gerner, Marcus Wall and Karl Gerner.
