Letha Doris Rogers
Letha Doris Rogers, 83 of Lubbock, died Monday July 21, 2008, in Lubbock Health Care Center.
Letha Doris was born to Grady Murl and Ethel Josephine (Stanley) Duckett on Feb. 6, 1925. She was known as "Doris" to all her friends and family. On Oct. 11, 1941, in Tahoka, Doris married
Victor G. Rogers, Sr. She was a retired hairdresser and homemaker, who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her daughter, Pat Rogers Gasaway, in 1994. She is survived by her husband, Victor Rogers, Sr.; and son, Victor Rogers, Jr. and wife Marcia. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great great- grandchild.
Visitation will be this evening from 7-9 p.m. at Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home.
Gravesite services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under direction of Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home, with John Ballard officiating.
William "Bill" Biddy
Family and friends of William "Bill" Biddy will gather to reminisce his 73 years of life from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers on 82nd Street and Iola Avenue. A service to celebrate his life is schedule for 4 p.m. Thursday at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Mr. Biddy died Sunday, July 20, 2008.
Winfred Earl Patterson
Funeral services for Winfred Earl Patterson, 74, of Levelland will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008, in the Smallwood Activity Center, First Baptist Church of Levelland with Rev. Gil Ramirez and Rev. Ted Currington, officiating. Burial will be in City of Levelland cemetery under direction of George Price Funeral Home of Levelland. He died Friday, July 18, 2008.
Winfred was born to Earl and Dink Patterson on Aug. 24, 1933, in Rotan. He moved to Hockley County in 1936 and graduated from Levelland High School in 1952. He entered the U.S. Army following graduation and served in Ft. Chaffey, Ark., and Bad Kranza, Germany, for three years. He married
the love of his life, Rosetta Howell on Dec. 22, 1954. Following his release from the service he returned to Levelland where he went to work for Dowell Chemical before joining his father in the family farming operation.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth "Dink" Patterson and a great granddaughter, Kyleigh Dee Cheyenne Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Rosetta Patterson of Levelland; his children, Ricky and wife Teresa Patterson of Levelland, Mike and wife Cindy Patterson of Lubbock, and Carrie and husband Richard Obenhaus of Lubbock; his father, Earl Patterson of Levelland; a brother, Bobby Don Patterson of Wichita Falls; sister, Gaynell Taylor of Lubbock; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorial s to the West Texas Church at the Barn in Lubbock, Levelland First Baptist Church, or Park Drive Baptist Church, Levelland.
The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Dorothy Walker
She was born on December 8, 1927 in Crosby County to H.B. and Ada (Brown) Grant. Dorothy attended Brownfield High School and graduated in 1945. She married
Jack Walker on November 11, 1945 in Belton. She managed school cafeteria master kitchens for many years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Bellaire Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Jackie Davis and husband Dan of Shallowater; one son, Bill Walker and wife Brenda of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Lainie Borton and husband Tom; Chris Davis and wife Kellie; D'Ann Davis; and John Davis; two great-grandchildren, Amy and Allison Borton; and one brother, James Grant of Abilene.
She was preceded in death by her parents, H. B. and Ada Grant.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2008 at White Funeral Home in Lubbock. Celebration of Life Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Bellaire Baptist Church with Lonnie Carroll officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.
Edgar Neal Utsinger
Edgar Neal Utsinger, 87, of Amarillo died Tuesday, July 22, 2008.
Services will be 3:30 p.m. Friday in Bell Avenue Church of Christ with Mr. Glen Walton, of the church, officiating. Burial will be held in Llano cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Coulter Road Chapel, and 8310 S. Coulter Road.
Neal was born on April 21, 1921, in Gore, Ohio, and grew up in Seminole, Okla. He served in the Navy during World War II. He and his wife, Wanda, married
on Dec. 28, 1941, and lived in Odessa for 38 years. When Neal retired as a machinist from Phillips Petroleum Company, they moved to Amarillo, attending Bell Avenue Church of Christ where he served as an elder.
Neal spent his retirement years working with the church. He also loved gardening and being with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by a son, Kelly Utsinger and wife Kay of Amarillo; a daughter, Jill Anderson and husband David of Lubbock; grandchildren, Amy Utsinger Rogers and husband Brent, and Emily Utsinger Wilson and husband Tyson of Amarillo, Michelle Baumgardner and husband Paul of Panhandle, Wade Whitener and wife Kim of Houston; and great-grandchildren, Ashlynn and Dustin Baumgardner of Panhandle and Emma Whitener of Houston. He was predeceased by his wife, Wanda; and son Terry.
The family suggests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home.
T. Veronica Pena
Veronica Pena, 29, of Lubbock, passed away in Sweetwater on Tuesday, July 22, 2008. She was born May 20, 1979 to Felix and Consuelo Peņa. Veronica is survived by her husband, Allen Keith Shoopman; daughter, Victoria Leigh Shoopman; son, Jacob Cain Shoopman; father, Felix Peņa; mother, Consuelo; six brothers, Paul Peņa; Felix Peņa, Jr.; Roman Peņa; Daniel Peņa; Nicholas Peņa; and Carlos Peņa; one sister, Christiana Peņa; many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Veronica will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. today at Griffin Mortuary. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Our Lady of Grace Church.
Maurine Wallace Holcomb
Maurine Wallace Holcomb, 71, of Shallowater passed on July 20, 2008, after a courageous 18-month battle with breast cancer.
Maurine was born Jan. 20, 1937, in Waukesha, Wis., to Maurice and Emma Wallace. Shortly after graduating Waukesha High School, she moved to New Mexico where she married
. She later moved to Texas where she would live in several different cities before settling in Shallowater in 1992. Throughout her life, she was employed in various secretarial and banking capacities; at one point working as the secretary for the governor of New Mexico.
Whether through teaching, volunteering or being a good friend and mother, she always cared for others. She will be remembered for her kind heart, strong will, dry sense of humor and boundless love.
She is survived by her brother, William and wife Nancy Wallace of West Bend, Wis.; and her two daughters, Julia Holcomb of Dallas, and Jennifer and husband Nathan Boyd of Lubbock.
Visitation for family and friends will be 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, July 25th, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 W. 19th St., Lubbock, Texas, 806-791-6200. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26th, in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel followed by a graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maurine's honor to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Julio Contreras
Funeral services for Julio Contreras, 61, of Lubbock will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2008 at Guajardo Funeral Chapels. He passed away on Monday, July 21, 2008 at home. Burial will be at Peaceful Gardens cemetery under the direction of Guajardo Funeral Chapels. He was born on Feb. 11, 1947 in Odessa.
Mr. Contreras had a large loving family. He resided in Post and was a faithful employee of McDonald's for 16 years.
Survivors include three sons and three daughters; sisters, Mary Evans of Calif.; Carol Guerrero, Susie Contreras, Ellen Contreras, and Elva Contreras, all of Lubbock; brothers, Joe of Calif.; Frank of Odessa; Jimmy Contreras of Lubbock; and A.C. Carrasco of Ariz.
Francis Hamilton Anderson-Cox
Memorial services for Francis Hamilton Anderson-Cox will be 3 p.m. on July 26, 2008, at the New Heritage Church in Allen.
Fran lost her courageous and hard fought battle with colon cancer on July 18, 2008. She lived a long and eventful life which began on Aug. 9, 1939, in Bayou Meto, Ark., as the oldest of six children. She graduated from Stuttgart High School in 1957. She returned to school later in life and graduated with her Bachelor in Social Work and her Master in Public Administration from Texas Tech with Cum Laude honors. She was a champion of public service serving as Executive Director at Marion Moss Enterprises and United Way, Development Officer at Texas Tech University. She continued to work until her diagnosis in 2006.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Jerry McWhorter of Parker, Colo., Renee Stokes, and Kimberly Gorny, both of Wylie; her sisters, Marie Hamilton and Rosemary Maher;
Brothers, Harvey and Leonard Hamilton; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her husband, Raymond Cox.
Henry Dee Dickerson
Henry Dee Dickerson, 61, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at his residence. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Spur with Byron W. Dickerson officiating.
Interment will be in Girard cemetery under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
Dee was born Nov. 9, 1946, in Jayton to Carlos and Deen Fuqua Dickerson. He was raised in Girard and attended school there. He served in the US Army and was a Viet Nam Veteran. He married
Beverly Tilley in 1974. She preceded him in death in 1995. He married
Betty Samman Sept. 23, 1995, in Lubbock. Dee loved and took pride in his family, his home and his work. He also loved horses. Dee was employed by Warren Cat for 42 years.
Dee is survived by his wife, Betty of Amarillo; one son, Aaron Dickerson of Lubbock; two daughters, Bobbie Lowe of Slaton and Gina Hollon of Odessa; One step-son, Leslie Sammann; one step-daughter, Corrina Robinson; one brother, Ronnie Dickerson of Spur; two sisters, Gloria Hill of Spur and Connie Teague of Lubbock; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly; and his parents.
