Minnie Lee Smith
Minnie Lee Smith, 81, of Lubbock, died Monday, July 14, 2008. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home Chapel Burial will follow in Peaceful Gardens cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 5:30 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home this evening.
Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 15, 1926, in Aspermont, attended schools there, she married
James Lamar Smith Feb. 16, 1948, in Spur; they moved to Lubbock in 1956. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Parkway Drive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, I.W. Hodges and Alice Maude Cutberth; one brother, R.B. Hodges; and one sister, Tawannah Thomas.
Survivors include her husband, James Lamar Smith; Jimmie Sue Lee and husband Robert; two sons, Mitchell Smith and wife Johnnie, and Tommie Smith and wife Pat; one brother, Jimmy Hodges and wife Yvette; and sister, Susan Anglin; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial are suggested to the Joe Arrington Cancer Center, 4101 22nd Place, Lubbock, TX 79410.
Billy Jo Green
Billy Jo Green, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2008. She was born in Eldorado on May 19, 1931, to I. W. (Bill) Sweatt and Dulcie Ellis, both deceased. She was predeceased by a sister, Rosalyn Kidd; and several special cousins. She graduated from Menard High School and San Angelo Business College.
Billy Jo was a devoted wife and mother, was active in the 48 Club, represented the club at the 1962 Beta Sigma Phi Queen of Hearts ball, where she was crowned Queen of Hearts for that year.
Billy is survived by her husband of 58 years, Howard W. (Jack) Green of San Angelo; four children, daughter, Gail G. Fargason and husband Ray of Lubbock, daughter, Jackie L. Green of La Vernia; son, Howard W. (Wes) Green, Jr. and wife Laren of San Angelo, and daughter, Dulcie G. Wink and husband Marc of Houston; grandchildren, a very special Lisa M. Gerloff and husband Mark of Birmingham, Ala., Trent L. Taylor and wife Brandi of Hereford, Tessa M. Easterling and husband Brian of San Angelo, Matthew A. Green of San Angelo, and Connor McMahan of Houston; six great-grandchildren; Garrett, Grayson, McKinley, Grant, Jenay, and Tanner; niece Nancy Williamson and husband John of Menard; nephew, Jerry Kidd and wife, Lisa of Brady; close family friend and loving caregiver, Cindy Warner; longtime family friend, Rebecca Ramirez; and numerous cousins. Special thanks are extended to the people of Hospice of San Angelo for their help and guidance through the final weeks of her life.
Family visitation will be at Robert Massie Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. until noon on Thursday, July 24, with a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 24, at Rest Haven cemetery in Menard with Chaplain Mike Andress officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.

Richard (Rick) Dale Bassinger
Death came softly and opened the door to eternal life for Richard (Rick) Dale Bassinger, Sunday, July 6th, 2008.
Rick was born Sept. 17th, 1962. He grew up in Lubbock, attending Stewart, Western Hills, Evans and Dunbar, where he graduated in 1982.
He is survived by his sons, Nathan and Brandon Bassinger of Wilson; his parents, Richard and Bonnie Bassinger of Lubbock; his sister, Laurie Kleman and husband Kenneth of Littlefield; his niece, Kristin Miller; his nephews, Trevor Miller, Brock Kleman and Bryant Kleman of Lubbock; grandmother, Dorothy Lamb of Wolfforth; and uncles, Johnny and James Arnold of Wolfforth; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Burton and Ruth Bassinger; and grandfather, John Arnold. Rick will be remembered as a loved son, brother, grandson, Uncle and newphew. He loved his sons more than he was ever able to express. Rick worked most of his adult life for Bassinger Sandblasting Services. He was a hard worker who, even as he went through his own trials, wanted the best for those he loved. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is with his Lord and family in heaven and the trials of this world are no more.
Celebration of life services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Rev. Ross Spencer officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
A visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Resthaven Funeral Home.

William Ross ''Bill'' Anthony

Martha ''Paula'' Hughes
Services for Martha "Paula" Hughes, 82, of Lubbock, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008, at the Church of Christ in Welch with Truman Hayes and Kalith Brown officiating. Burial will be in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 9, 2008, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Paula died on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at her residence.
She was born on Jan. 3, 1926, in Lynn County, to Tom and Alice Cathey. She married
Randall Hughes on Sept. 1, 1946, in Welch. Paula was a cafeteria manager for Dawson ISD.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Survivors include children, Lanny Hughes of Deer Park, Cathey Davis of Henrietta, and Gayle Drennan of Lubbock; brother, J.C. Cathey of Welch ; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

David A. Shelly
Memorial services for David A. Shelly, 59, of Lubbock will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Lubbock Area Veterans' War Memorial at 4001 82nd Street under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home of Plainview. Interment will follow at the Dallas-Fort Worth National cemetery at a later date. David died Friday, July 4, 2008 at the Amarillo VA Hospital.
David was born Feb. 19, 1949, in Freeport, to William David and Lesta Mae Shelly. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1967. He served in the Army from 1969-1972, and he is a Viet Nam veteran. He was the Commander of the American Legion Post 575 from 1990-1991, and also a lifetime member. He was also the vice president of the Texas Tech Viet Nam Center in Lubbock from 1992-2008. David also loved to write, and wrote a beautiful song called "Three Warriors of Texas" that his good friend David Riley's son Cory put to music. They were working on having it published. A copy will be donated to the Viet Nam Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Eddie Dodd; and father-in-law, Billy Don Martin.
Survivors include his wife, Lindsey; two sons, Paul and William of Lubbock; former wife, Nancy of Lubbock; stepson, Cory Bowler of Tyler; brother, Jim and wife Judy if /clayton, N.C.; mother-in-law, Mary Martin of Lubbock; step-grandson, Kevin Dodd daughter-in-law, Haley, and step-granddaughter, Destiny Williams, all of Lubbock; niece, Kristin Acheves and husband Kevin, and great-niece Ava Acheves of Hurst; niece Krista Melcher of Lubbock; six nephews, Jason Shelly of Hawaii, Luke Shelly of Arlington, Bryce, Garrick and Grant Shelly of Clayton, N.C., and Justin Martin of California; sister-in-law, Kim Ramirez and husband Selso of Lubbock; and brother-in-law, Larry Martin and wife Karen of Kingwood.

Hugh E. Brown
Hugh Brown was born in Vernon, Tx., on February 18, 1931 to Floyd and Delia Brown. His parents and his brother Joel preceded him in death. Hugh attended TCU and Trinidad colleges.
He worked for Iowa Beef in Sioux City, Iowa, and Amarillo. In the beginning of the computer age he was instrumental in the development of the first computerized systems of plant automation and automated packaging of products for Iowa Beef in both Iowa and Texas.
For the last twenty years Hugh's passion was church involvement at Sunset Church of Christ and the Sunset International Bible Institute. He was active in Hospital Visitation, served as a greeter and encourager for years. He participated in multiple fellowship groups and activities.
Hugh married
Joyce Ray, also a member of Sunset on May 28 1993. Hugh and Joyce were blessed by serving their church family as a couple for the last fifteen years.
Hugh is survived by his wife, Joyce, and sister, Helen Hall of Vernon.
Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2008 at Sunset Church of Christ with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Sunday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, gifts to be made to Sunset International Bible Institute and the Character Counts program at Lubbock Christian University.
Bettye Jo Conwell
Bettye Jo Conwell, 83, of Lubbock, passed away after a brief illness Saturday, July 12, 2008 at her home. She was born January 3, 1925 in Lubbock to Jeff and Louise Graham. She graduated from Lubbock High School and Texas Tech University. She married
Everton C. Conwell in 1945. She worked for 25 years for Southwestern Bell Communications. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lubbock.
She is survived by a son, Robert Michael Conwell of Irving; a daughter, Sharon Conwell Holcombe of Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio; and one granddaughter.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Sanders Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John H. Ballard officiating. Burial will follow at the City of Lubbock cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Montie Jane (Criswell) Crockett
A time of remembrance and sharing for Montie Jane (Criswell) Crockett is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 82nd St. and Iola Avenue. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the City of Lubbock cemetery. Mrs. Crockett died peacefully with her family at her bed side on Wednesday, July 9, 2008.
Montie was born to Celesta Ann "Lessie" Isom and L. D. Criswell in Slaton on October 1, 1924. She was raised in Amherst, where she attended and graduated from Amherst High School in 1941. Montie married
Charles M. Coulson Jr. of Amherst in 1942. They moved to Oakland, Calif. where she worked for the San Leandro Naval Hospital during WWII. They moved back to Lubbock in 1946. She worked for the USDA Cotton Division from 1949 through 1992. She formally retired in 1988. She worked as a Volunteer at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock.
Montie married
William (Bill) Crockett on July 10, 1981 in Lubbock. He preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 1998. She was also preceded by two brothers, Weldon and Lamar "Skeet" Criswell.
Montie is survived by seven children, Daniel Coulson of Austin; Robert "Tim" Coulson of Colorado City; Melanie Coulson-Lamas and husband Americus of Austin; William "Billy" Crockett; Tammy Crockett; and Robert Crockett, all of Lubbock; and Thomas Crockett of Fort Worth. She is also survived by five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a sister, Lamoine Carpenter of Albuquerque, N.M.
She was a loving wife, best friend, and true life partner to William "Bill" Crockett and a wonderful, inspirational, unselfish, giving mother and friend to all who knew her. The world is, by far, a much better place for having her on this earth because of the love she gave to all she knew. She will be terribly missed by those that knew her.
