Jeryl Wayne Dobson, Sr.
Jeryl Wayne Dobson, Sr. passed away July 10, 2008 in Longview after a brief illness. Mr. Dobson was born October 26, 1932 in Alvord to Frank and Leola (Powell) Dobson. He grew up in Crosbyton, and married
Wanda Dell Hickman on March 29, 1958. He and his family moved to Carthage, Texas in 1977. Mr. Dobson served as a District Court Reporter for Panola and Shelby Counties. After his retirement, he and Wanda moved to Longview.
Funeral services for Mr. Dobson will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Adams Funeral Home in Crosbyton with Terry Ellison officiating. Burial will follow in the Crosbyton cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Dell Hickman Dobson of Longview; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeryl W. Dobson, Jr. and Wendy of Longview; a daughter and son-in-law, Starla and Joseph Morgan of Keller; two grandsons, Zachary Morgan of Shreveport, La.; and Barron Dobson of Longview; a granddaughter, Lauren Morgan of Keller; three sisters, Eva Payne of Lubbock; Marie Stanton of New Castle; and Melba Hickman of Hereford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Letha E. Nelms
Letha Elizabeth Nelms, 80, of Lubbock, died peacefully at her home on July 11, 2008.
She was born on August 24, 1927 in Randolph County, N.C., to Peter and Lovie (Brady) Carter. In 1957, she married
James H. Nelms who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her son Lester T. Jarrett.
Letha worked as a licensed CNA and retired from these duties in 1990. She was a wonderful, loving and trusting friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, James W. Nelms of Lubbock; William M. Nelms of Slaton; Lewis C. Maness of Abilene; daughters, Kathy J. Nelms of Lubbock; and Judy A. Anderson of Dallas. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Dr. Ken Horn officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Terry Popham
A time of remembrance and sharing memories of Terry Popham is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. A ceremony to celebrate her 51 years of life will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hope Lutheran Church followed by a committal service at the City of Lubbock cemetery. She died peacefully with her family at her bedside Friday, July 11, 2008.
She was born on Feb. 11, 1957 in Pensacola, Fla., to Samuel and Roxie Blackmon. While living in Florida, she was employed at McGlads Floral as a floral designer. She resided in Pensacola, Fla. until 1993, when she moved to Lubbock and continued her career as a floral designer at Sharps Floral. She was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church, where she served as preschool teacher and alter floral designer.
Terry married
George Popham on September 29, 1994 at Gloria Dai Lutheran Church in Lubbock.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and servant of the Lord.
Survivors include her spouse, George; children, Lloyd Scott and spouse Maria; Kevin Eugene Scott and spouse Annette; and Melinda Dunn; siblings, Linda King and Johnny Blackmon, both of Pensacola, Fla.; James and Earl Blackmon, both of Calif.; grandchildren, Kohl, Dominique, Olivia, Deanna Scott, Chad and Latecia Sauceda.

Louie Scott, Sr.
Louie Scott, 56, born and raised in Slaton, passed away July 9, 2008 at Temple VA Hospital. He was born December 22, 1951. He joined the US Air Force November 1970. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, four brothers, three sisters, fourteen children, seventeen grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Service will be Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Slaton. Burial will follow at Englewood cemetery in Slaton under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008 at Griffin Mortuary.
Ruth Lougene 'Gene' Criswell
Gene was born May 20, 1930 in Silverton, and passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006, at a nursing home near her daughterís home in Rowlett.
She was raised on the family farm outside of Silverton. She received her undergraduate teaching degree from Texas Tech University and her master's degree from Eastern New Mexico University. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hobbs, N.M., The Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the Order of the Eastern Star - Bethany Ch. 56, and numerous other organizations. She was a resident of Hobbs for 35 years, where she taught math and science at Highland Junior High.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pauline and Hudie McClendon; her sister, Doris Inman; and a daughter, Paula Criswell McCoun.
She is survived by her sister, Norma Hightower of Austin; her brother, Toby McClendon of Lubbock; a daughter and son-in-law, Michael and Christine Felton of Rowlett; two granddaughters; a great-grand-son; and a great grandson to be born in late February.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at Sanders Memorial Chapel in Lubbock. Burial will follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
Family will greet friends from 7 until 8 p.m. tonight at Sanders Funeral Home.

John Franklin Stewart III
John Franklin Stewart III, "Jack", 61, was welcomed into the arms of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, June 27, 2008. He was surrounded by his loving wife and children. Jack was born in Cairo, Ill. in 1947 to the late Dr. John F. Stewart Jr. and the late Frances L. (Bour) Stewart. He was preceded in death by one brother, Greg Stewart.
As a lifelong Catholic, Jack received the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Communion, Confirmation, Anointing of the Sick and his last rights. On November 26, 1966 he received the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony.
Jack is survived by his wife of 42 years, Carole Stewart, and six children: daughter, Lisa Shrauner and husband James of Midland; daughter, Melanie Stewart of Midland; son, John Stewart IV of Fredericksburg; daughter, Kim Jones and husband Tim of Frisco; son, Technical Sgt. Peter Stewart and wife Susie of Chocktaw, Okla.; daughter, Aimee Kurio and husband Matt of Pflugerville. Jack is also survived by his nine beloved grandchildren, Russell, Stewart, and Jayme Shrauner of Midland; Jordan and Jayson Jones of Frisco; Jack and Hannah Stewart of Chocktaw, Okla.; Rheagan and Jaxon Kurio of Pflugerville; four siblings: sister, Margaret Papick and husband Joe of Cypress; sister, Debbie Urban and husband Ronnie of Hockley; brother, Dr. Vince Stewart and wife Rose of Giddings; brother, Dr. Jimmy Stewart and wife April of Giddings. In-laws include Ron and Diane Garner of Houston; and Diane Evans of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack attended school in Giddings from Kindergarten through 12th grade. In 1965 he accepted an athletic scholarship to Texas Tech University for football and excelled as a collegiate athlete. It was at this time he married
his childhood friend and sweetheart, Carole Tate. He was selected to the All-Southwest Conference Team in 1968 and played in the East-West Shrine Game. In 1969 he was drafted by the Baltimore Colts. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University in 1970, and remained a member of the Red Raider Club and the Texas Tech Ex-Letterman's Association. While completing his education he began employment with Great Plains Construction, Co. as Supervising Foreman for over 13 years. He returned to Giddings in 1984 to be closer to his father and mother-in-law, the late Mary Fields. He was a Ranch Manager for 24 years. For the last seven months Jack worked for Well Testing and was working in Colorado at the time of his death.
Jack was a loving and loyal husband, father, Papa, and friend to many. He enjoyed the pursuit of knowledge, sports, animals, winning at dominoes, and 'one-liners'! He will be in our hearts forever and greatly missed. Rest in peace "Handsome Jack"!
Visitation will be from 12 until 9 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2008 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. A Rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Giddings. Burial will follow in the Giddings City cemetery in Giddings. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the charity of one's choice.
Pallbearers will be John F. Stewart IV, Peter Stewart, Timothy Jones, Matthew Kurio, James Shrauner, Russell Shrauner, Stewart Schrauner, and Garlan Gerdes. Honorary Pallbearers will be Steve Lehmann, Mike Hirsch, Monty Melcher, Greg Shroeder, Dr. Vince Stewart, Dr. Jimmy Stewart, K.O. Peterson, Gordon Gerdes, Gary Gerdes and Dr. Charles Burns.

Leondrick Akeen Hastings, 18, of Lubbock, passed way Tuesday, July 1, 2008 here in Lubbock. He was born November 7, 1989.
He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Leondrick Hastings, Jr.; Sharae Mona Holland; father, Lee Hall; mother, Lisa Hasting Greathouse; mother-in-law, Toya L. Jackson; grandmother, Helen Osby; grandfathers, Jim Osby and Troy D. Legrande; sisters, Natisha Turner; Shankitha K. Anderson; Nikki Stevenson, Christy Young, and Tawanika McGraw; brothers, Christan Elijah Hastings, Corey Young, and Tramaine Young; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Earl Moherman
Services for Earl Moherman, 75, of Brownfield, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Jody O'Briant and Rev. John Patrick officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn cemetery in Amherst under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.
Earl passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008, in Lubbock. He was born Dec. 11, 1932, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Bob and Thelma Moherman. Earl was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean War. He married
Lynn Ann Brown on March 29, 1968, in Lubbock. They moved to Brownfield in 1969. Earl was employed with Frito Lay for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Benji Wallace.
Earl is survived by his wife, Lynn of Brownfield; two daughters, Cristal Ferguson and husband Danny of San Angelo and Pam Moherman of Lubbock; two sons, Tommy Wallace and wife Leslie of Warren, Mass., and Mike Moherman and wife Louise of Lubbock; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bob Moherman and wife Peg of Youngstown, Ohio.
Samuel Bert Berry
Samuel Bert Berry, 90, passed through the veil of life to be with his Savior on Tuesday, July 8, 2008. He was a kind and loving husband, father, and friend.
Samuel was born Sept.5, 1917, in Bronco, Yoakum County, to the late John William and Mary Adeline Perry-Berry. Sam married
Ruth Mildred McKee on Oct. 1, 1936, at his parents' home in Ropesville. His first employment of note was with Evans Grocery Store at Ropesville. He later worked as a deputy sheriff in Hockley County. In the 1940s he was a highway patrolman for the Texas Department of Public Safety and was stationed in Waxahachie, and later in the Texas Panhandle. By 1950 he was a deputy sheriff in Hereford. Leaving law enforcement in 1954, he moved to Ropesville where he farmed and owned an insurance agency. He sold out and retired to Colorado in 1970. In 1975, he moved to San Antonio and became a successful commercial contractor working for major oil companies. In 1993, he retired again and moved to Lubbock.
For many years Sam was active in the Boy Scouts of America as a troop founder and leader. He belonged to the local Lions club for a number of years. He was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in the Meadow, Texas Masonic Lodge and later made a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason in the Masonic Temple at El Paso.
Samuel is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Hortense; and brothers, James, Robert, and Charles. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Ruth of Lubbock; a son, Samuel Bert Berry, Jr. and wife Patricia of Abilene; two daughters, Charla Jean and husband James R. Johnson of Lubbock and Mary Susan and husband Don Goodrum of San Antonio; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild; and brothers, Daniel C. of Eunice, N.M., and Shelton P. of Lubbock.
Graveside services and interment at Resthaven Memorial Park will be 10:45 a.m., Friday, July 11, 2008, with Pastor John H. Johns of Lubbock officiating. Services are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
