Fred Fleener, III
Reverend Fred Fleener, III, 50, of Lubbock, died Thursday. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Nevels cemetery in Tahoka under the direction of Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home. Fred's family will receive friends today from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Fred was born July 16, 1958 in Fort Stockton to James Walker and Hazel (Henderson) Fleener. He grew up and graduated from school there. He married
Ida Hagerman on May 22, 1978 in Elk City, Okla. He was a member of Christian Life Assembly of God. Fred had been the pastor of churches in Pecos, Fairfield, and Associate Pastor in Fort Stockton.
Survivors include his wife, Ida; son, Sgt. Fred Fleener, IV, stationed in Germany; a daughter, Whitney Faith Fleener of Lubbock. Also surviving are his mother, Hazel Cherry of Winters; a sister, Mary Jane Duffy of Odessa; and one brother, Jimmy Fleener of Rush Springs, Okla.; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth Maxine Pickens
Ruth Maxine Pickens was born Nov. 17, 1916, to the late Clarence Thomas and Gladys Rudd Thomas in Judsonia, Ark. She went to be with her Heavenly Father July 26, 2008. She married
J.W. Pickens in 1950. J.W. preceded her in death 1991.
Maxine's hearty helpings of banana pudding, peach cobbler and homemade rolls made a legendary impression on the school children of Spur for thirty years. Quick to grab her purse, Maxine enjoyed going places and spending time with her family.
Left to cherish her memory are daughter, Pat Laster of Amarillo; daughter Sandy Duboise of Lubbock, and daughter, Barbara and husband Harold Parks of Roaring Springs; grandchildren, Michael Duboise of Los Angeles, Teresa Ball of Tyler, Donna Luby of McKinney, Robbie Laster of Amarillo, Debbie Naylor of Arlington, Brenda Laster of Amarillo, Lacey Rankin of Roaring Springs, and Kacey Bell of Clarendon; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Blake, BJ, Dylan, Aaron, Whitley, Ashlee, Amy, Linley, Aaron, Brody, Brogan, and Kyler.
Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Spur with Larry Burton officiating. Interment will follow at Spur cemetery.

Ramona R. Butler
Ramona R. Butler, 51, of Lubbock, passed away at UMC on Wednesday, July 23, 2008. She was born June 7, 1957, to Allen Calk and Mary Dyer in Abilene. She was a devoted Christian and a person who loved God. She received her G.E.D. and attended Cosmetology School. She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Sasha Giles and Tara Giles, both of Ft. Worth; one sister, Donna Archey; two brothers, Larry Calk and Mark Hersom; a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
Graveside service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at Griffin Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at Dixie cemetery in Whitesboro, TX, under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
Hern Pettigrew
Services for Hern Pettigrew, 88, of Slaton, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Slaton's First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Slaton's Englewood cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service in Slaton.
Mr. Pettigrew was born March 15, 1920, in Dumas. Hern attended school in Justiceburg and Post. Hern retired from the Santa Fe Railroad after 44 years. He farmed and ranched in Justiceburg. Hern was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy and a lifetime member of Slaton's VFW. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, BLE Union and the Retired Railroaders Club.

Jimmie Clarkston on Aug. 9, 1941 in Post.
Hern died Friday, July 25, 2008. A daughter, Patsy Tanner, preceded him in death on June 24, 2007.
Hern's survivors are his wife, Jimmie; daughter; Ronda Wheeler of Colorado; grandchildren, Patrick Wheeler, Lynn Wheeler, Amy Cornelius, and Jennifer Winkleman; six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Gladys Morgan, Geneva Crowley and Evelyn Rhea; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lester Lee Newman, Jr.
Homegoing services for Lester Lee Newman, Jr., 27, of Lubbock will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Trinity Church, located at 7002 Canton Ave. Interment will follow in the Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow. Services will be under the direction of Ossie Curry Funeral Home of Lubbock.
Lester Lee Newman, Jr. left to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, July 21, 2008. Lester was born August 17, 1980 to Lester and Sharon Newman. He was a Lifelong resident of Lubbock. He graduated from Coronado high School, where he was a standout basketball player.
He leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Lester and Sharon Newman, Sr.; one brother, Daman Newman, Sr.; grandmother, Vera Mae Johnson of Bay City; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and his special friends, Tom and Heather Reed and Fred and Darby Popanz.
Lester will be met on the other side of glory by his best friend and sister, Danielle; his grandparents, Alice and Johnny Johnson, Sr.; Weldon and Enolia Newman; along with his uncle, Earl Johnson; aunt and uncle, Jessie and Charlie Mae Coleman; aunts, Delores Dickson and Delorise Newman; and cousin, Andrea Maye Sardinea.

Woodrow W. Brints
Services for Woodrow W. Brints, 93, of Lubbock, formerly of Idalou and Crosbyton will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 at the New Salem Primitive Baptist Church in Floydada. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until noon Monday at the church. Burial will follow the service in the Crosbyton cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.
Mr. Brints passed away Friday, July 18, 2008 in Lubbock.
Survivors include his wife, Stella Fay Brints of Lubbock; a daughter and her husband, Christene and Don Edwards of Lubbock; two sons and their wives, Norman and Sydney Brints of Vernon; and Calvin and Susan Brints of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

William Carey Bridges
William Carey Bridges went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, July 15, 2008. Carey was born to Clark and Laura Bridges on Aug. 19, 1961, in Lovington, N.M. He graduated from Spearman High School in 1979 and continued his education in the School of Pharmacy at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He married
Denice Blackburn in 1991. Carey was employed as a pharmacist at Covenant Hospital. He will always be remembered for his love of family, love of life, his generosity and Christian faith.
He is survived by his wife, Denice of 17 years; daughter, Amy; parents, Clark and Laura Bridges of Spearman; sister, Dawn and her daughter, Katie; in-laws, Ted and Zetha Collins of Dimmitt; Sara and Chris Deuillet of Plano; Adrian and Oscar Rojas of Borger; two nieces; five nephews; and a host of relatives and lifelong friends.
Carey has left this world a better place. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be 5 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 82nd & Iola Ave.

Sylvia Frances Buxkemper Meurer
Rosary for Sylvia Meurer, 92, of Slaton will be 7 p.m. today, Sunday, July 20, 2008 in Englunds Chapel with the Deacon Darris Linder of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating.
Resurrection Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 in St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Nicholas Rendon officiating. Burial will be in Englewood cemetery of Slaton under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service.
She died on Saturday, July 19, 2008 in Slaton.
She was born on June 19, 1916 in Victoria, Tx., to Charles William and Erna Anna Mueller Buxkemper.
In the fall of 1922 the Buxkemper family moved to Slaton where she attended school. She married
Paul Meurer on September 27, 1938. They farmed cotton and raised their family in the Slaton area. Paul died November 24, 2000. Two children, Charles and Catherine, preceded her in death.
Sylvia was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and had been active in the Catholic Daughters and the Alter Society and past member of the Town and Country Dance Club.
Those she is leaving behind include her sons, Lee Meurer and wife Judy; Edward Meurer and wife Brenda, all from Slaton; and daughters, Vernell and husband Buddy Kaatz; and Nadine and husband Carroll McDonald, all from Lubbock; sister, Esther Strube; and brother, Paul Buxkemper, both from Slaton; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many other family members and friends. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Steve Moss
Funeral services for Steve Moss, 60, of Andrews will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 at George Price Funeral Chapel with Sam Keasler facilitating. Burial with military honors will follow in the City of Levelland cemetery under direction of George Price Funeral Home.
Steve was born to C. M. and Virginia C. Moss on November 8, 1947 in Amherst. He was raised in Olton, where he graduated high school in 1966 before joining the service. During his service in the U. S. Army, Steve served in Vietnam, receiving three purple hearts and the bronze star for valor. He had a number of jobs, but owned and operated Moss Welding and Fabrication for 16 years and owned Escents Candle Co. in Andrews until he retired.
He was preceded in death by his father, C. M. Moss, and by Renay Moss. Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Virginia C. Moss of Midland; a daughter, Staci Moss of Lubbock; a brother, Max Moss of Hereford; and two sisters, Sherry Moss of Streetman, and Marsha Keasler of Midland.
