Agnes Juanita Bills

Agnes Juanita Bills, 82, of Abilene, died Friday, July 18, 2008 in a local hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 in North's Memorial Chapel with Ernie Christie officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of North's Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange St.

Juanita was born September 6, 1925 in Ranger, Texas, to James Willie and Edna Lydia (Maples) Beeson. She graduated from Portales New Mexico High School and from Midwestern State University in 1967 with a degree in accounting.

In 1969 she married Charles R. Bills in Waco; they resided in Waco, Austin, and Abilene. He preceded her in death June 30, 2008.

Juanita retired as a federal revenue agent with the Internal Revenue Service in Waco. She was a member of the Oldham Lane Church of Christ in Abilene. Since January 2006 she and Charles had resided at Wesley Court Retirement Center.

In addition to her husband, Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Ernest Holmes; and two brothers.

She is survived by her stepson, David Bills of Lubbock; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and husband Stephen Rubenfeld of Duluth, Minn.; two granddaughters, Brena Rubenfeld of St. Paul, Minn.; and Becca Rubenfeld of Pittsburg, Pa.; two sisters, Opal Lee Terry of Portales, N.M., and Dorothy Bivens of Cisco; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial donations may be sent to Sears Methodist Hospice, 3233 S. Willis, Abilene, Tx 79605; Wesley Court Foundation, 2617 Antilley Rd., Abilene, Tx 79606 or Foster's Home for Children, Box 978, Stephenville, Tx 76401.

Debbie Joyce Cummings Steen

Debbie Joyce Cummings Steen, 51, of Littlefield, went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 18, 2008. She was born August 3, 1956 in Lubbock to Winston and Hilda Cummings of Amherst.

Debbie attended Amherst Schools, and graduated from Amherst High School in 1974. She then attended Texas Tech University. She worked at the First Baptist Church in Littlefield as a secretary for several years, was a legal secretary for Rush Wells Law Offices, and also was employed by the Littlefield ISD. Debbie was a devoted and loving mom, and a lifelong friend.

Waiting for her in Heaven was her dad, Winston Cummings; sister-in-law, Debra Ann (Cook) Cummings; and her grandparents, Ice and Vera Cummings; and Doug and Lorean Bagwell.

Those left to cherish Debbie's memory are her daughter, Nikki Steen Kovar and husband Ernie of Bastrop; her mother, Hilda Cummings of Littlefield; brother, Doug Cummings and fianc?e Kathy Wells, of Lubbock; nephew, Derek Winston Cummings of Lubbock; Don Steen; and numerous friends.

Services to celebrate the life of Debbie will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Littlefield with Brother Joe Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in Littlefield Memorial park with arrangements under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association, 2514 82nd Street, Lubbock, Tx 79423, or to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 5005 LBJ Fwy. Ste. 250, Dallas, Tx 75244.

Dyke Enabnit

Dyke Enabnit was born on September 11, 1950 in Fargo, N.D., to Dean and Virginia Fisher Enabnit. He passed away on July 17 at the age of 57, following a long battle with M.S.

Dyke graduated from Monterey High School and had attended TTU. While in college he worked at S & Q Clothiers, and was an agent with Banker's Life and Casualty. He was a member of Indiana Avenue Baptist Church.

Dyke was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include a brother, Doak and wife Dana Enabnit of Lubbock; two sisters, Diane Lohnes of Atlanta, Ga.; and Debbie and husband "Chuck" Digate of Winchester, Mass.; stepmother, Betty Enabnit; stepbrother, Wade McCorkle; nephews and nieces, Daniel and Natalie Enabnit; Taylor and Susie Enabnit; and Abigail Digate.

Memorial services are pending, following cremation arrangements.

The family suggests memorials to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation of West Texas, 1031, Andrews Hwy, Midland, Tx 79701

Lorraine Larry Rice

Family and friends of Larry Rice will gather in Lubbock to celebrate her 85 years of life, which ended peacefully at home on Friday, July 18, 2008.

Larry was born on March 29, 1923, in Brockton, Mass. She met her husband, Rudolph Rice while serving as an Army nurse in World War II. She survived her husband, Rudolph Rice; and her son, Richard Rice. Now, she is survived by three children, Sandra Fix; Linda Farris; and Bill Rice; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be 7 p.m. today in W.W. Rix Chapel on Broadway. Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 in Christ the King Cathedral with Monsignor Ben Kasteel officiating.

Memorials may be sent to Lubbock Meals on Wheels, 2304 34th, 79411.

Wilbur Thomas Leon

Memorial services for Wilbur Thomas Leon, 77, of Petersburg, Texas, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008 in the First United Methodist Church in Petersburg with Rev. Lee Crouch officiating and John Blythe assisting.

Burial will be held before services in the Petersburg cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy.

He died Saturday, July 19, 2008 in his home. He was born July 23, 1930 in Rule, Texas. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1947 and Texas Technological College in 1950 with a degree in Management.

He married Mary Settle on August 9, 1949 in Lubbock. He was an innovative farmer and entrepreneur, an avid reader, and loved to play golf and poker. He was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Petersburg, where he taught Sunday School and served in numerous leadership capacities. He was a strong community leader, serving on the city council for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and daughter, Anne.

Survivors include daughters and their spouses, Paula and Larry Martin of Petersburg; Kathy and Dickie Vanderpool of Wolfforth; Janet and Danny Shuffield of Austin; sons and their spouses, Tommy Leon and Don Glover of Salem, Mass.; and Carroll and Cherise Leon of Petersburg; grandchildren, Brent Martin and wife Erin; Kyle Martin; Rodney and Kristen Leon; Travis, Andrew, and Kurtis Vanderpool; Luke, Anne Elise, Daniel, and Seth Shuffield; great-granddaughters, Cash and Cooper Martin; sisters, Barbara Scheef and Linda Zachary.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church, 1706 Ave. G, Petersburg, Tx 79250 or to the Petersburg Library, 1614 Main Street, Petersburg, Tx 79250.

Travis Ray Hendrix, Sr.

Funeral services for Travis R. Hendrix, 90, of Peoria, Ariz., formerly of Slaton will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church in Slaton with Rev. Paul McQuerry officiating. Interment will follow in Southland's Resthaven cemetery. Services are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service in Slaton.

Travis went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 16, 2008. He was born on July 15, 1918 in Eastland County, Texas. His family moved to Southland in 1919.

Travis graduated from Southland High School in 1937 and attended Texas Tech. He married Doris Faulkner on August 10, 1940 in Clovis, N.M. Doris preceded him in death on July 22, 2004. They made their home in Slaton in 1941 when Travis went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad. Travis retired from the Santa Fe as an Electrician in 1981 after 40 years of service.

Travis was a member of the First Baptist Church, Past Master of Slaton's Masonic Lodge, past President of the WBCCI, Texas Unit Airstream RV Club, and served on the board for Slaton's Senior Citizen Center.

He is survived by two sons and their wives, Travis Jr. and Teresa Hendrix of Phoenix, Ariz.; Terry and Dee Hendrix of Goodwill, Okla.; two daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Jim Schlatter of Ridgefield, Wash.; and Susan and Hagen McMahon of Austin; 11 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Slaton's Senior Citizen Meals on Wheels, or the First Baptist Church of Slaton.

The family will have visitation at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008.

Valley Sue Wilmeth

Graveside services for Valley Sue Wilmeth, 74 years, 7 months, and 14 days, of Lubbock, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29th, at Estacado cemetery in Lubbock County.

Valley Sue passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2008, at Covenant Medical Center. A visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home.

Valley Sue was born on Dec.13, 1933, in Quemado Valley to Carel Kendrick and Vera V. (Walker) Wilmeth. She graduated from Ralls High School in 1951. Valley Sue was a retired telephone operator and worked in Austin, Lubbock, and San Diego, Calif.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Elton, Alton, Mack, and Bill Wilmeth; and sisters, Elnora and Bonnie Wilmeth. Survivors include brothers, W.C. Wilmeth of Lubbock and Thorne Wilmeth of Ralls; sister, Juanelle Daldal of San Francisco; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Glyndene Burns

Glyndene Burns, loving wife, mother, sister and friend, won her eight-year courageous battle with breast cancer Tuesday, July 29, 2008, as she entered the gates of Heaven.

Glyndene was born May 27, 1956, in Littlefield to the late Lloyd Glynn and Maxine (Becton) Spencer. She graduated from Littlefield High School and Texas Tech University. Glyndene married the love of her life, Brian Burns, on March 8, 1980, in Matador. She taught school for several years and served on the Frenship School Board for six years. Glyndene was also a certified Davis Dyslexia Correction Counselor.

Those left to remember her warm smile, gentle touch and her strength and passion for life are her husband, Brian; two daughters, Jennifer Black and husband Trevor of Naples, Fla., and Michelle Burns of College Station; two sisters, Carolyn Bawcom of Austin and Dillene Cox and husband Toby of Amarillo; her very special friends, Kathy Mooney, Robin Hunter and Debbie Taylor; and her baby dog, Mattie, along with many others who loved her.

A time to honor Glyndene will be this evening from 6-8 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 82nd and Iola Ave. A time of celebration will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2008, at First United Methodist Church of Wolfforth with the Revs. Randy Jordan and Russ Byard officiating. Committal will follow in the Becton cemetery. As we remember this special lady, Glyndene, the family encourages everyone to wear pink to the Celebration service.

Memorials also may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3411 73rd Street, Lubbock, Tx. 79423.
