Margaret B. Whaley
Margaret B. Whaley passed away July 27, 2008, at the age of 96, after a life of great joy, friendship and service to others. She and her deceased husband, Searcy R. Whaley, founder of hospitals and clinics for alcoholics in the mid-50s, had both been long time residents of Dallas. Margaret resided at Presbyterian Village North in Dallas at the time of her death.
She was born April 28, 1912, in St. Louis, to Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Bettle. As a young child, Margaret and her family moved to Big Spring, where she grew up and graduated from high school. She was installed into the Order of Eastern Star in Big Spring in 1944. She was one of the earliest members of the Al-Anon family group. Margaret was a legal secretary in Big Spring before her marriage to Searcy in 1934. She and Searcy were married
for more that 68 years before he passed away in 2003. Both were members of First Baptist Church Dallas.
Margaret is survived by her brother, Clayton Bettle and wife Alta Mae; nephew, Jim Bettle and wife Deborah of Delaware; nephew, Dick Bettle and wife Liz of Texas; niece, Kay Beaird of Texas; and niece, Doris Jean Yates of California. A viewing and visitation will be held Friday, August 1, from 12-1:30 p.m. at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. A brief service at 2 p.m. will follow in the chapel in celebration of Margaret's life. Interment will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2008, at Mount Hope cemetery in Anson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Margaret's name to Texas Clinic and Hospital for Alcoholism, PO Box 35865, Dallas, TX 75235.
Margie Nell Pearson
Margie Nell Pearson passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2008. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Bacon Heights Baptist Church.
She was born Jan. 19, 1927, in San Saba to the late C.B. and Sarah Lambert. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bill; son, Robert; grandson, Jake; and granddaughter, Ashley.
Survivors include son, Ronald (Rip) and wife Tammy Pearson; daughter, Melissa Reynolds and husband Carey; son, Bill and wife Lana; daughter-in-law, Jennifer; grandsons, Daniel and Will Pearson, and Brian and Trevor Sthultz; brother, Ricky Lambert; sister, Betty Inman; and sister-in-law, Sawyer Swords.
Margie requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Bacon Heights Baptist Church Building Fund.
Mike Taylor
Mr. Mike Taylor of Tahoka, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather departed this life on July 29, 2008, at the age of 63 years. He was born Oct. 24, 1944, in Jayton, to Billy Ray and Nina Faye (Cheyne) Taylor. Mike moved from Stamford to Tahoka in 1953. He attended Tahoka High School, where he graduated in 1963, and then attended South Plains College. Mike was a farmer and a member of Sweet Street Baptist Church in Tahoka. He enjoyed working and spending time with his family. He married
Gilda Gandy, April 30, 1965, in Tahoka.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gilda Taylor; one daughter, Monica Stephens and one son, Matt Taylor both of Tahoka; two grandchildren, Derek Stephens and Jacob Stephens of Tahoka; one great-granddaughter, Taylor Stephens; and two brothers, Doug Taylor of Tahoka and Jeffery "Jiggs" Taylor of Levelland.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will greet friends from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at the White Funeral Home in Tahoka.
Celebration of Life Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2008, at the Sweet Street Baptist Church in Tahoka with Rev. Lynn Long officiating. Interment will follow in the Nevels Memorial cemetery in Tahoka.

Ray Baldwin
Ray Baldwin, another of the "Greatest Generation" passed away Monday, July 28, 2008. A private service of remembrance will be held at a later date to honor his life.
Ray was born on June 29, 1923, in Newlin to William and Ola Brewer Baldwin. He graduated High School in Corsicana, and later joined the U.S. Army during WWII. While in France he met and later married
Marguerite Percheron, on Dec. 4, 1945.
Ray retired from Civil Service after 40 years. He was a Property Officer at Amarillo when it was closed and served at Reese AFB when he retired.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and 10 siblings.
Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Yvonne Porras of Lubbock and a daughter in Colorado; two sons, William Baldwin of Amarillo and Steve Baldwin of Pasco, Wash.; a sister, Bonnie Lou Self of Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels.
Cremation arrangements are with Resthaven.
Viviana Garcia
Funeral services for Viviana Garcia, 81, of Olton will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2008, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Olton with Father John Smith officiating. A Rosary will be 6 p.m. July 30, 2008, at Lemons Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Olton cemetery under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Viviana was born Dec. 2, 1926, in Sanderson, to Felixiano and Maria Romo. She was a homemaker and a member at St. Peter's Catholic Church for many years.
She is survived by two daughters, Juana Viviana Garza of Levelland and Manuela Martinez of Olton; one son, Alex Romo of Andrews; two brothers, Tony Romo of Wicket and Onecimo Romo of Lorenzo; one sister, Maria Lomas of Sanderson; three step-daughters, Regina Flores of Idalou, Sandra De La Rosa of Olton, and Emelia Begar of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ben Garcia; three brothers, Isidro Romo, Refugio Romo, Andres Romo; and two sisters, Timotea Vielma and Gregoria Flores.
Lydia Marie Qualin
The family of Lydia Marie Qualin will gather to celebrate her eight years of life at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 82nd Street and Iola Avenue. She died Sunday, July 27, 2008.
Lydia was born June 14, 2000, in Lubbock, to Anthony Qualin and Erin Collopy.
She is survived by her parents; her sister, Sara; and a large and loving family.
Bud Watson
Bud Watson, 69, died Sunday, July 27, 2008, in Pampa. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ with Rodney Tedford, Church of Christ minister, officiating. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Springlake cemetery in Springlake with Trent Terano, minister of the Earth Church of Christ officiating. Arrangements are by direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.
Bud was born on Sept. 12, 1938, in Olton, to Lowell and Bernice Watson. He was raised at Springlake and married
Beverly Stine, his wife of 51 years, on Feb. 1, 1957. They moved to Pampa in 1962 while Bud was employed by Pioneer Natural Gas. He retired from KN Energy in 2000. He was a member of the Mary Ellen and Harvester Church of Christ.
Bud is survived by wife, Beverly Watson of the home; two daughters, Linn Bullard and husband Ross, and Lee Jurajda and husband Jimmy, all of Amarillo; three granddaughters, Courtney Bullard and Codi Bullard, both of Lubbock, and Jamie Jurajda of Amarillo; one grandson, Jakoby Jurajda of Amarillo; and brother, Kenneth Watson of Springlake.

Henry Whitman
Funeral Service for Henry "Pops" Whitman, is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Hillcrest Baptist Church with burial at the Terry County cemetery in Brownfield, Texas at 3 p.m. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 29, 2008, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
He passed away July 26, 2008, at the age of 66. He was born March 31, 1942, to Hines C. and Lorene (Presley) Whitman in Vernon. He married
Neda Chambliss on May 19, 2000, in Plains. Henry was a veteran of the U.S. National Guard. He was a Christian and of the Baptist Faith. His hobbies included car restoration and drag racing.
Survivors include his wife, Neda Whitman; sons, Chris Whitman and wife Denise of Lovington, N.M., Brent Whitman of Elko, Nev., Michael Green of California, Chris Chambliss of Plains, Scott Chambliss and wife Leah of Riviera; siblings, Sally Klopfer of Sivells, N.M., Freddy Whitman of McDonald, N.M., Joe Whitman of Lovington, N.M., and Ray Whitman of Paris, Texas; grandchildren, Tarrah Chambliss, Justin Chambliss, Jordan Chambliss, Michael Therwhanger, Raegan Whitman, Landon Chambliss, Jaydon Chambliss, Westin Chambliss, Gracen Whitman; and special cat, Mr. Fluse.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Linda Winkle.

Gabriela Garcia Vasquez
A great lady whom was greatly loved and will be missed by many has left us as of July 4, 2008. Gabriela Garcia Vasquez, age 88, of Lubbock, was born on April 18, 1920, in San Marcos. She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Clara Valdez and Juanita Torres; two brothers, Pete Trevino and Santos Trevino; three daughters, Elfida Ramos, Louisa Rivas, and Beatrice Hernandez; and survived by her beloved husband, Daniel Vasquez; her sister, Antonia Rodriguez of Houston; daughters, Mary Morgan and Helen Garcia, both from Midland; and sons, Benito Rivera and Juan Trevino of Lubbock, and Romaldo Garcia of San Antonio. She left behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
We all loved her and also will remember her for all the love and joy she brought to our lives. Services and viewing will be 9 a.m. Thursday at Griffin Mortuary, 1715 E Broadway, Lubbock, TX. Interment will follow at 10 a.m. at City of Lubbock cemetery.
Gladys Wiechmann
Gladys Wiechmann passed away on July 2, 2008, at the Autumn House in Idalou. She was born in Cecil, Ark., on Dec. 29, 1914, to Carlos Clarence and Lydia (Bumpass) Benham. Gladys graduated from Mulberry High School in Arkansas. She attended Arkansas Tech and Oklahoma A&M, where she received a B.S. degree in Home Economics and a Master's degree at Texas Tech. She married
Carl Wiechmann on Feb. 3, 1946, in Kansas. He preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 1999. Gladys taught elementary school in Hobbs, N.M., for 33 years. She was loved by her students. She and her husband also owned the Wiechmann Nursery in Hobbs for 50 years. They helped beautify the town of Hobbs with their landscaping. Gladys was a member of Southern Heights Methodist and First Methodist Church of Hobbs for over 45 years. She is now a member of the Canyon United Methodist Church.
Those left to cherish her memory are two brothers, Glendon Benham of Laguna Vista and Cobb Benham of Idalou; one sister, Pauline Eilers of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by one son, Ronald Lee Wiechmann; husband, Carl Wiechmann; parents, Lydia and Clarence Benham; and three brothers, Gene, Willard, and Raymond Benham.
Memorial Service for Gladys will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Canyon United Methodist Church; FM 1729 and East 4th; with Pastor Jim Reinbolt officiating.
