John Bonnard Parker
John Bonnard Parker, 67, lost his 13-year battle with leukemia July 2, 2008 at his home in Houston.
Born Dec. 28, 1940 in Brownfield to Homer and Shirley Parker, Johnny will be remembered for his unfaltering sense of humor. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, J.W. "Bozo" Scott; and mother-in-law, Floyce Stephens.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Melba Parker of Houston; daughter, Judy Parker of Houston; sisters, Pat Parker of Fort Worth and Elaine Floyd of Rowlett; also, several nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Montie Jane Crockett
A time of remembrance and sharing for Montie Jane (Criswell) Crockett is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 82nd St. and Iola Avenue. A committal celebrating her life of 83 years will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at the City of Lubbock cemetery. Mrs. Crockett died peacefully with her family at her bed side on Wednesday, July 9, 2008.
Jeryl Wayne Dobson, Sr.
Jeryl Wayne Dobson, Sr. passed away July 10, 2008 in Longview after a brief illness. Mr. Dobson was born October 26, 1932 in Alvord to Frank and Leola (Powell) Dobson. He grew up in Crosbyton, and married
Wanda Dell Hickman on March 29, 1958. He and his family moved to Carthage, Texas in 1977. Mr. Dobson served as a District Court Reporter for Panola and Shelby Counties. After his retirement, he and Wanda moved to Longview.
Funeral services for Mr. Dobson will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Adams Funeral Home in Crosbyton with Terry Ellison officiating. Burial will follow in the Crosbyton cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Dell Hickman Dobson of Longview; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeryl W. Dobson, Jr. and Wendy of Longview; a daughter and son-in-law, Starla and Joseph Morgan of Keller; two grandsons, Zachary Morgan of Shreveport, La.; and Barron Dobson of Longview; a granddaughter, Lauren Morgan of Keller; three sisters, Eva Payne of Lubbock; Marie Stanton of New Castle; and Melba Hickman of Hereford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Una Loretta Rich
Una Loretta Rich was born December 13, 1921 in Anna, Collin County, Texas. She grew up in Ropesville where her parents, Abe and Luvenia Shaw, were cotton farmers. She married
William "Bill" Rich on February 2, 1945 in Las Vegas, Nev. The couple lived in Dallas where Una retired from Crum and Forster Insurance Company of Dallas after many dedicated years. After retirement, the couple moved to Lubbock. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Bill; her parents; and six siblings.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Ida Mae Shaw of Dallas; two nephews, Jerry Shaw of Austin and Jim Shaw of Cloudcroft, N.M.; niece, Wanda Berry of San Antonio; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the caring and compassionate staff of Bender Terrace.
Graveside services for Mrs. Rich will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 12 in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Lena Pauline Johnson
Lena Pauline Johnson, 82, of Lubbock, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008.
She was born October 8, 1925 in Wheeler County to Charles A. and Laura Mae Allen. She married
J.W. Johnson, Jr. in Alameda, Calif. on August 26, 1943. They farmed in the Hart Camp area for many years prior to moving to Lubbock in 2001.
She was preceded in death by her son, John E. Johnson; sister, Dorothy Kizzar; and a grandson, Craig Johnson.
Survivors include her loving husband of 64 years, J.W.; a daughter, Kay Campbell and husband John of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Neil Ballard of Midland; John Cooper and wife Susan of Lewisville; Jennifer Ponder of Amarillo; Chris Johnson and wife Dana of Bartlett, Tenn.; two brothers, Charles Allen and wife Virginia of Amarillo; and Max Allen and wife Bobby of Lubbock; four sisters, Ottice Elms of Lubbock; Toni Hendrick and husband Roy of Lubbock; Ruth Leonard and husband D. R. of Littlefield; and Sue Hukill and husband W. D. of Winters; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008 at the South Plains Church of Christ with Duane Johnson and Gordon Musick officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials be made to your favorite charity or the Children's Home of Lubbock.
Margret Crispin
Services for Margret Crispin, 65, of Wilson, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Wilson's First Baptist Church with interment in Slaton's Englewood cemetery and under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service in Slaton.
Mrs. Crispin was born May 17, 1943, in Sulphur Springs. She moved to Wilson in 1947 and graduated from Wilson High School in 1961. She married
Floyd Bartley in 1961, and they had four children.
Margret later married
Ray Crispin on June 2, 1973, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 2004. She was a reporter for The Slatonite for many years before becoming a legal assistant for Huffaker & Green Attorneys. Margaret later moved to the new law firm of W. Calloway Huffaker III Attorney, where she was presently working.
Margret died Saturday, July 12, 2008.
She is survived by a daughter, Tracy Kendrick of Lubbock; sons, Mitchell Bartley of Maypearl and Jason Bartley of Lewisville; adoptive son, W. Calloway Huffaker III of Tahoka; her mother; Loraine Aherns of Levelland; and sisters, Brenda Ewerz of Levelland and Sue Crowson of Corpus Christi, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will have visitation at the funeral home from 7- 8 p.m. Monday, July 14th.
Louie Scott, Sr.
Louie Scott, 56, born and raised in Slaton, passed away July 9, 2008 at Temple VA Hospital. He was born December 22, 1951. He joined the US Air Force November 1970. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, four brothers, three sisters, fourteen children, seventeen grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Slaton. Burial will follow at Englewood cemetery in Slaton under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008 at Griffin Mortuary.
Clint Hurley
Celebration of life services for Clint Hurley, 83, of Lubbock, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Redbud Baptist Church with Rev. Delbert Stone and Rev. Shon Wagner officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. A visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008, at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Charles Clinton Hurley was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Rosston, to the late James and Velma (Boyd) Hurley. Clint graduated from Idalou High School in 1942. He married
the love of his life Mary Elizabeth Gregory, Sept. 21, 1942. In June of 1943, he entered the United States Navy serving as a Seaman First Class/Gunners Mate aboard the USS Salt Lake City. After his discharge in 1945, he worked as a fireman/guard at the Lubbock Army Airfield until its closure in 1947. He was then employed at the Louisiana Ordinance Plant until 1951. He then returned to Texas and began farming. Clint farmed in Hockley and Lubbock counties until 1992, but maintained interests in farming until his death. Clint served on the Smyer School board, the Board of Directors of Carlisle Co-Op Gin and Frenship Co-Op Gin. He was an ordained Deacon in the Baptist Church and served at Smyer Baptist, Hurlwood Baptist Church and was a current member of Redbud Baptist Church in Lubbock..
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Mary Elizabeth; daughters, Lynda Hurley and Janet Williams and husband Brad, all of Lubbock; sons, Troy Hurley and wife Vicki of Temple, Greg Hurley and wife Gwenda of Lubbock, Steve Hurley of Lubbock, and Dwight Hurley and wife Peggy of Shallowater; grandchildren, Kelli Hess, Brandon Hurley, Mindi Hurley, Scott Hurley, Jill Hurley, Cole Hurley, Sam Hurley, Jennifer Brimmage, Kevin Acrey, Cheri Hurley, Kaleb Hurley, Zac Hurley, Jake Denson, and Cody Williams; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dan Hurley of Lubbock.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Redbud Baptist Building Fund, any hospice organization or to a favorite charity.
Charisse Leaton
Memorial services for Charisse Leaton, 52, of Lubbock will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 82nd & Ave. V Church of Christ. Charisse passed on July 15, 2008. She was born April 16, 1956. Charisse was married
to Frank Leaton on December 15, 1997. She was preceded in death by her Father John Thomas Linker and her husband Frank.
Survivors include one son, Mike Rogers, and one daughter, Christina Gunnels, both of Lubbock; six grandchildren; her mother, June Linker of Lubbock; two brothers, Jerry Linker and wife Carla; and Curtis Linker and wife Tina, both of Carrollton; two sisters, Lanisa Dehn and husband Mark; and Tami Sharp and husband Greg, both of Lubbock; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Emabeth Pittman Thompson
Emabeth Pittman Thompson, born September 20, 1920 in Albany, Texas, to a pioneer ranching family, went to her heavenly reward on July 15, 2008. She was the fourth of six children born to T.C. and Agnes Pittman. Emabeth graduated from Albany Texas High School and went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from North Texas State Teachers College in Denton in 1942. After serving in the United States Public Health/Red Cross during World War II, she worked for the Texas A&M Extension Service.
In 1956, Emabeth married
Charles C. Thompson, a prominent Colorado City attorney and banker. Spending her adult life active in farming, ranching, community service and banking, she served for over thirty years on the Board of Directors of City National Bank of Colorado City, most recently serving as Chairman of the Board until April 2007.
A member of the First United Methodist Church of Colorado City, Emabeth was also well known for her many philanthropic endeavors.
During his tenure as Chairman of the Federal Land Bank, "Charlie" - her husband, best friend, and soul mate - and Emabeth traveled the United States as well as internationally on behalf of the Federal Land Bank System.
Ms. Thompson was preceded in death by her beloved husband; her loving parents, Thomas Clifton (T.C.) and Agnes Jordan Pittman of Shackelford County; sisters, Robbie Sue Adoue and Dorothy G. Pittman; brothers, Randolph Pittman and Frank Pittman. Emabeth is survived by one brother, T.C. Pittman, Jr., of Albany; nephews, Vic Adoue, DVM, of Flower Mound; Clifton Keith Adoue of Harker Heights; Vance Pittman of Arlington; and Del Pittman of Belton; nieces, Sue Santone of Argyle; Beth Adoue-Polk of Harker Heights; Tracey Pittman of Albany; and Elizabeth Dyer of San Angelo. Her survivors also include many great-nieces, nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her special friends and confidants, Bobby Lemons and Marcelene Cox; the Board of Directors and employees of City National Bank of Colorado City; her loyal personal staff led by Rosa Gutierrez, who cared for and nurtured Emabeth in her final days; and her many friends and acquaintances.
We will forever remember Emabeth's dry wit, unfailing generosity, loyalty, regal but approachable bearing and unfailing friendship. Texas has lost one of its true grand dames and we bow ours heads in respect and reverence.
Family will receive friends on Friday, July 18, 2008 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. James Edwards and Mr. Royce Clay officiating and burial to follow in the Colorado City cemetery.
