Katherine Beal
Katherine Kleiss Beal, 95, of Lubbock, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 15, 2008. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19 at Resthaven Memorial Park with Dr. Ken Horn officiating.
Mrs. Beal was born on May 5, 1913 in Coffeyville, Kan., to John and Lulu (Dunham) Kleiss. She and Ben T. Beal were married
on October 8, 1932 in Independence, Kan. He preceded her in death in 1964. She was a graduate of Texas Tech University and a long-time teacher with the Lubbock Independent School District.
Mrs. Beal is survived by her daughter, Julia B. Rogers of Blairsville, Ga.; son, Jack W. Beal of Weston, Conn.; brother, Norman Jack Kleiss of San Antonio; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Linda Dee Houx Rhodes
Linda Dee Houx Rhodes, 56, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2008, in Fort Worth. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Chapel in Fort Worth. Entombment will be in the Greenwood Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home of Fort Worth.
Linda was born Oct. 9, 1951, in Long Beach, Calif. Survivors include her husband, Ron Rhodes; daughter, Brandi Fair and husband Stephen; sons, Casey Brown and wife Sara; Curtis Brown and wife Patricia; stepdaughter, Christina Rhodes; mother, Odessa Scheffel and husband Eldie; brother, Mike Houx and wife Wendy; sister, Kathy Drake and husband Ricky; and four grandchildren.

Agnes Juanita Bills
Agnes Juanita Bills, 82, of Abilene, died Friday, July 18, 2008 in a local hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 in North's Memorial Chapel with Ernie Christie officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of North's Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange St.
Agnes was born September 6, 1925 in Ranger, Texas, to James Willie and Edna Lydia (Maples) Beeson. She graduated from Portales New Mexico High School and from Northwestern State University in 1967 with a degree in accounting.
In 1969 she married
Charles R. Bills in Waco; they resided in Waco, Austin, and Abilene. He preceded her in death June 30, 2008.
Juanita retired as a federal revenue agent with the Internal Revenue Service in Waco. She was a member of the Oldham Lane Church of Christ in Abilene. Since January 2006 she and Charles had resided at Wesley Court Retirement Center.
In addition to her husband, Juanita was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
She is survived by her stepson, David Bills of Lubbock; stepfather, Ernest Holmes; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and husband Stephen Rubenfeld of Duluth, Minn.; two granddaughters, Brena Rubenfeld of St. Paul, Minn.; and Becca Rubenfeld of Pittsburg, Pa.; two sisters, Opal Lee Terry of Portales, N.M., and Dorothy Bivens of Cisco; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Charlene Joy Hubach
Family and friends of Charlene Hubach will gather in Lubbock to reminisce about her life on Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers, 6025 82nd Street. A ceremony celebrating sixty-three years of life is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 20 at Broadway Church of Christ. A visitation will be held in Pasadena, Texas, at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 22. Her earthly remains will be laid to rest on Wednesday, July 23, at Grand View Memorial Park in Pasadena at 10 a.m. Charlene died on Thursday, July 17 at University Medical Center in Lubbock. The courage and strength she displayed while fighting cancer was and remains an inspiration to many others.
Charlene was born on October 30, 1944 in Houston, to Newton William Peacock and Lillian Lorene Peacock. She was a resident of Harris County for over 50 years before retiring to Lubbock in 1999.
She is survived by her spouse, Russell Hubach of Lubbock; son, Dennis Hubach of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Suzanne Payne and husband Lloyd of Lubbock; granddaughter, Lauren Payne of Lubbock; sister, Cecelia Pawlowski of Canyon Lake; and dear friends and longtime neighbors, Susan and Michael Wallace of Houston.
The family is very appreciative to all of the doctors, nurses, and friends who cared for her in Lubbock and Houston.

Bruce Griffin Temple
Bruce Griffin Temple, 54, of Corinth passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2008. He was born on September 1, 1953 in Lubbock to Robert Earl Temple and Rebecca Margaret Griffin Temple. Bruce was a graduate of MacArthur High School in Irving and attended Texas Tech University. He was employed as a travel agent with Galactic LTD in Arlington, and spent his non-working hours cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Flower Mound Presbyterian Church in Flower Mound. Burial will follow at Flower Mound cemetery.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Debbie Temple; his mother, Reba Temple; children, Nicole Watkins and husband Ashly; Clint Temple and wife Shelly; Michael Griffith; Kerri Peschel and husband Mike; eight grandchildren; brothers, Mike Temple, Sr., and Bill Temple, Sr.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Temple, and his sister, Beth Randle.

Virgil N. Brantley
Services for Virgil N. Brantley, 79, of Lubbock will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Genesis Baptist Church in Lubbock with Rev. Roger Garrett officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy.
Mr. Brantley died July 3, 2008 at University Medical Center in Lubbock.
He was born April 28, 1929 in Tulsa, Okla. He graduated from High School in Boystown, and then enlisted in the US Air Force serving in Panama and later at Reese Air Force Base. He married
Georgia Ruth Greenlee on May 4, 1950. She died on July 3, 1996. He married
Irene Purser on December 31, 1999 in Lubbock. He worked for Braniff Airlines for 29 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Abernathy, member of Oddfellow Lodge, served as Deputy Grand Master.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Brantley of Lubbock; one son, Michael J. Brantley of Lubbock; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons; five stepsons, Robert Armstong, Roy Armstrong, Leslie Thompson, all of Lubbock; Edwin Armstrong of Idaho; and Darrell Armstrong of Arizona.

Evangelina Luera Carrillo
Evangelina Luera Carrillo, 73, of Lubbock, went to our Lord on July 1, 2008. Chapel services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Guajardo Funeral Chapels with Rev. Michael Dobbs officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 4, 2008. Burial will be at Peaceful Gardens cemetery under the direction of Guajardo Funeral Chapels. She died on Tuesday, July 1, 2008. She was born on April 14, 1935 in Laredo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arturo Carrillo; sons, Arturo, Oscar and Felipe Carrillo.
Mrs. Carrillo was a homemaker and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a good friend, never met a stranger and was always there for the family.
Survivors include her daughters, Noemi McHaney (Lupe); Mona Hernandez (Isidro); Leticia Vidales (Paul); and Otilia Tijerina; sons, Joey Carrillo (Yolanda); Sergio Carrillo; Arturo Carlos (Cathy); and Mark Carrillo, all of Lubbock; sister, Bolie Ruiz (Steve); brothers, Carlos Luera; Timo Luera (Emma); Zeke Luera; Luis Jr. Luera (Chela); Ramiro Luera (Gloria); and Jessie Luera; 25 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Billy Joe Atkinson
Billy Joe Atkinson, 81, of Amarillo, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008 in Amarillo. Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2008 at the Childress cemetery. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2008 at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Duke Underwood and Rev. Kerry Wood officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home in Childress.
Billy Joe was born Oct. 26, 1926 in Childress to Carroll Lawrence and Francis Evaline Atkinson. He served in the Navy during WWII; afterward, he was employed with Burlington Northern Railroad in Childress and in Denver, Colo. After retirement from Burlington Northern, Billy Joe was property manager of the "Plaza De Monnaco" Condominiums in Denver as well as a car salesman. In 2006, he retired from work at the age of 80. Throughout his life he exemplified his work ethic, and will be remembered for his dedication to work. Amarillo has been his home for the past year.
Survivors include sons, Joe B. Atkinson and wife Jane of Destin, Fla.; Bill D. Atkinson and wife Joyce of Lubbock; sisters, Verlene Turner of Childress and Peggy Cook of Amarillo; brother, Gary Atkinson of Childress; granddaughter, Melissa Bloodworth and husband Joe of Arlington; and grandson, Jason Atkinson of Miami, Fla.

Doris Jackson
Doris Jackson, 73, of Shallowater, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008 in Lubbock.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Riverside cemetery in Byers with Chaplin Les Jackson of Lubbock officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Henrietta.
Mrs. Jackson was born on July 7, 1934 in Riverby to Oran and Opal (Russell) Taylor. She married
Willie Jackson August 15, 1950 in Sash. He preceded her in death on February 15, 1994.
Survivors include two daughters, Euna Faye Tyler of Lubbock; and Diane O'neal and husband Raymond of Shallowater; two sons, Glen Jackson and wife Janet, and Billy Jackson and wife Kay, all of Lubbock; one sister, Carolyn Goley of Telephone; two brothers, Oran Lee Taylor, Jr. and Arvele Taylor, both of Dodd City; nine grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.
